This album is arguably the most important one in Johan Edlunds career. The mixture works quite well and is served on a near track-by-track basis with Church of Tiamat remaining on melancholic territory a possible leftover from the Wildhoney recording sessions a heavy atmospheric ballad which is sidestepped by Brighter than the Sun the vintage gothic rocker a major qualifier for the Sisters Vision Thing with the memorable sing-along chorus the bouncy rhythms and the brilliant female back vocals. A huge twist this one it ushers the album into an entirely new realm but Edlund feels quite confident there adding the dark sinister As Long as You Are Mine the excellent balladic keyboard-infused hipster Dust Is Our Fare and the very interesting individualistic sombre cover of The Rolling Stones Sympathy for the Devil to match this new gloomier but by no means more pessimistic vision. This album comes out in deluxe gatefold edition, Gold vinyl, ltd to 500. Label: Sevan Mater Barcode: 0617669419441
  • "Thurston Moore needs little introduction, best known as the extremely inventive and experimental guitarist/singer with Sonic Youth, also as an accomplished solo artist since his departure from the band in 2011. For approximately twenty-six years Sonic Youth released sixteen albums every one of them essential. Thurston and his cohort Lee Ranaldo reinvented the electric guitar with a unique, powerful, and experimental sound from their first album Confusion Is Sex in 1983 right up to The Eternal in 2009. This man has been through a lot. The use of different guitar tunings had never been used to this extent before in rock ‘n’ roll, making for interesting and new ways of presenting music. The standard guitar tuning of EADGBE made way for a new language with GABDEG and CCEBGD entering the equation. The early 20th Century blues guys had different tunings, but nothing like this, and the early 1990s alternative music scene would have been pretty empty without Sonic Youth’s influence on hundreds of bands. There are many bands out there who owe them a debt of gratitude to this day and without doubt they were just as influential as their own heroes The Stooges and the Velvet Underground. The desire to experiment with sound and atmospheres, plus screw with conventional ways of doing things has never left Thurston Moore. To date he has now released seven solo albums, including this long player, Screen Time. However, to add to this the ‘Discogs’ albums database lists, it features an additional, and incredible, 150 releases that includes collaborations with such luminaries as John Zorn and Yoko Ono, he certainly keeps himself busy. The use of acoustic and electric instruments on Screen Time creates a hypnotic and ethereal atmosphere suited to a relaxed state of body and mind. It was originally released on Bandcamp as a surprise on February 5th, 2021, it’s now been reissued by Southern Lord and consists of ten instrumental guitar tracks. Warning – Nothing rocks here or is abrasive, it’s suitable for chill out, background music, comforting and maybe capable of doing you a lot of good, should you suffer from high blood pressure or a stressed-out lifestyle. This record will do you good. The use of acoustic and electric instruments on Screen Time creates a hypnotic and ethereal atmosphere… Moore said of the title, ‘While our societies have become wholly engaged with the virtual universe of online interaction the work of filmmakers, musicians, painters, poets and dancers continues to offer dreamworld expressions of both reality and the imagination. Art is an offering. When you open up your screen, send a message of love and gratitude to someone. If it’s within your means, send aid to those in need. Screen time is now time, it is always time for change. A change for the better. What better time than now. Create, instigate, debate, never hate, sleep late, embrace fate, make a movie date, destroy and skate.’ Ending at just over forty minutes, I suggest you put this album on repeat and revel in its glory. Be influenced to create something similar because it is possible, even with limited and a non-conventional musical ability, to express yourself, Sonic Youth taught us this. ‘Be yourself because nobody can steal that’ or criticize it to quote Iggy Pop. Some will love it, some will hate it, so what? Thurston has taught us that. To lead and not to follow is the way and judging by Screen Time he still believes in that and follows that principle when creating, which is to be applauded. Still highly unique and making great records all these years later." Tim Keppie Screen Time is a series of instrumental guitar pieces recorded during the summer of 2021 as the world confronted the pandemic shutdown and as the people of good conscious stood up against the oppression of racist police oppression and murder. How much screen time does a parent allow a child? How much screen time does a child need to realise a world which has the means to coexist as a community in shared exchange? The cover image of Screen Time is of a youngster curled into a book, the pages vibratory with text radiating through the skin, blood and bone – an aspect entirely missing from digital media, though the actuality of transparency in our daily lives through streaming etc we can only leads to the awareness of fairness. Screen Time is in reflection to dream time, a state of meditation, hypnagogia and pillow talk. (Southern Lord Records)

  • Blood is the third and final album released by 4AD collective This Mortal Coil, an umbrella title for a loose grouping of guest musicians and vocalists brought together by label co-founder Ivo Watts-Russell. The supergroup consists primarily of artists attached to the 4AD label, of which Watts-Russell was boss and president at the time. The double album was released in April 1991, and was the second release on 4AD to utilize the double album-identifier "DAD" prefix in its catalog number. Blood was the final LP in the project's history, although Watts-Russell used two TMC performers on his next project, The Hope Blister, in 1998. A remastered and repackaged CD edition of Blood was issued with the complete This Mortal Coil recordings in a self-titled box set, released in late November 2011. The CD was released individually shortly thereafter. In 2013, NME ranked the album at number 493 in its list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. (4AD – CAD 3X06CDJ)

It's no secret that John Dwyer and Thee Oh Sees put out a ton of stuff. We're not just talking full lengths, of which there are many, and recently…but the singles, splits, comps even books - the dude cooks in many kitchens but the sauce is always tasty - and we're proud to continue our tradition of occasionally corralling these rarer gems all at once in a convenient LP format. If you already have all these songs from the first pressings, you must be a seriously insane collector (even I don't), but we've even included an unreleased and mutated live version of "Block Of Ice" recorded to tape at San Francisco den of iniquity "The Eagle" to sweeten the deal. We've also done our darnedest to dandy up the bunch and make it a party - they're printed on a blinding silver foil jacket with incredible tritone all-original artwork by Shalo P, of course the tunes have been gussied up ever-so-slightly to knock you nightly. In the swirling & undulant warm mud of jettisoned reels of magnetic tape, blurps up the fog of reinvention. Every night I would parley with my pilots and run and rerun the recordings. Right up until the moment sleep slips its veil over eyes and ears and you drift back without a sound. Protean Threat dream haze becomes Panther Rotate in the other dimension. A companion LP of remixes, field recordings, and sonic experiments using all sounds generated by the hum and crackle of the desert farm. (Castle Face Records)

Here we have a new batch from Thee Oh Sees for your absorption - nine muscular tunes primed to pummel to. Last year’s Drop was more schizophrenic, ranging from heavy to whimsical and back - Mutilator Defeated At Last has the most in common with the monolithic hugeness of Floating Coffin - with only two slight reprieves in heaviness this is a record made to be played loudly and that demands bodily sacrifice inherently. Despite the plutonium heavy feel, Thee Oh Sees continue to be omnivorous - synths and acoustic guitars expertly wind their way throughout like veins of gold through granite - any and all that stands in its way will be devoured and assimilated. This is the sound of a band doing what they do best. (Castle Face Records)

John Dwyer's crew roll in with the garage blast of I Come From the Mountain then drop the tempo and ramp up the distortion with Toe Cutter-Thumb Buster. From there on in it's a rollercoaster ride soaked in reverb, distortion, tambourines, analog keys and hand claps. Thirty nine minutes of perfection guaranteed from one of 'thee' best bands in the world right now. (Castle Face Records)
  • THEE OH SEES | drop | LP

    21.00 incl. tax
Our lad John P. Dwyer has been lancing eardrums with Thee Oh Sees in an ever escalating flurry of records for the past 6 years. Since the release of "The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending A Night In" announced a new loud era and excepting a few momentary detours into home-baked territory ("Dog Poison" and "Castlemania" for example), JPD and company have pummeled a bit harder each time out, cemented their reputation as a live force to be reckoned with, and have left legions sweaty and bruised in the process. Late last year, after years of relentlessly touring the world, the word got out…Dwyer's moving to LA (fear not, still California!) and Thee Oh Sees are taking a much needed hiatus with a shifting of gears ahead and a new album on the way. This is that album. "Drop" was recorded in a banana ripening warehouse (no joke) with hair-farming studio warlock Chris Woodhouse playing drums and graced with the presence of talented gurus Mikal Cronin, Greer McGettrick, and Casafis adding horns and vocals. The result pushes the familiar polarities of the group farther outward than ever before…opener "Penetrating Eye" might be the heaviest Oh Sees song yet, "Transparent World" and "Put Some Reverb On My Brother" foam with seasick fuzz, and yet the ballads, like the harpsichorded "King's Nose" and the lush and stately closer "The Lens", extend their oeuvre into mellotronic, far-out pop with delicacy and grace. This schizophrenia heralds the man and the band into an unseen future in classic Dwyer fashion - with restless energy harnessed into exquisitely crafted jams, with an emphasis on the pensive and the paranoid in turns. Featuring artwork by Jonny Negron. (Castle Face Records)
  • From the same misty mountain top tape spool as August’s “A Weird Exits”, Thee Oh Sees bring us a companion LP titled “An Odd Entrances". Delving more towards the contemplative side than the face-skinning aspects of "A Weird Exits", "An Odd Entrances" is a cosmic exercise en plein aire with Dwyer and co double drum shuffling, lounging with cellos, following a flute around the groove, and spooling a few Grimm-dark lullabies along the way. Lurking in the grass are a snake or two, like the celestial facing instrumental buzz of Unwrap The Fiend Pt. 1…but for the most part this is a relatively hushed affair, a morning rather than evening listen perhaps. • At the end of 2020 and in the 1st half of 2021 THE YELLOW MELODIES, released three EP's through Discos Imprescindibles. Each EP includes four own songs and a cover of an artist or band they admire. Now is the time to release the album SUNSHINE POP, on vinyl by Old Bad Habits label, Hurrah! Musica and Discos Imprescindibles and on CD by the Canadian label The Beautiful Music. The album will feature the songs from their EPs except for the covers. 'Sunshine Pop' is a remarkable collection of vital songs which stand out for their bright arrangements and for their harmonies of heavenly amplitude very close to perfection. Brilliant melodies, a hedonistic attitude and above all, a lot of pop, charmingly sophisticated pop. The songs on ‘Sunshine Pop’ are true guitar pop hymns, which perfectly define the sunshine spirit of vocal harmonies and string arrangements, brass, keyboards, glockenspiels. Most of the songs are in Spanish, without losing the essence of their sound. THE YELLOW MELODIES are essentially a group of songs. Here you have an impeccable selection of them with lyrics that have a positive aura, as in "It's a good day today", reminiscent of that "Wake up, Boo!" by THE BOO RADLEYS, with some delicious parapapaaaas; or “Dance party”, with a sixty atmosphere, which contrasts with "Ya no sueñas con ganar”. THE YELLOW MELODIES are Rafa Skam on vocals and guitar, Antonio Clares on bass and backing vocals, Carlos Abrisqueta on keyboards and guitars, and José Ángel Hernández on drums, and the songs were recorded into Pepe Moreno’s PM Studio.Norma Hamilton has added powerful backing vocals in these shiny songs full of sunlight, love and youth that will recharge you with positive energies. ‘Sunshine Pop' is a little wonder and these songs are full of sunlight, love and youth, features guitar pop hymns, which perfectly define the sunshine spirit of their musical adventure throughout analogue synthesizers, magical vocal harmonies, trumpets and other colourful arrangements. The debut album from the White Stripes back in stock. Raw urban sleazy blues that went onto change the face of music. You need to own this. The White Stripes' self-titled debut album is purely amazing. Diving straight in with Jimmy the Exploder, the song is incredibly catchy. The main riff, however simple, is genius, and you won't be able to get it out of your head. Throughout the album, Jack and Meg's souls and energy are poured into the music, and it obvious that so much work was put into the album. Printed inner sleeve with lyrics and credits. Recorded January '99 at Ghetto Recorders, Cass Corridor, Detroit. (Third Man Records – TMR042)

Loaded is the fourth studio album by American rock band The Velvet Underground, released in November 1970 by Atlantic Records' subsidiary label Cotillion. The end of the road for the Velvet Underground – but a set that's also one of the group's best-remembered albums too! The record marked a big shift for the group – a move to Atco from Verve, continuing to work without John Cale – and the sound is possibly more rockish and straight ahead than some of their previous efforts (certainly compared to White Light/White Heat) – but always with that dark edge that Lou Reed could bring to the music! In a way, the whole thing's almost a recasting of all the advances made in 60s rock, but seen through a lens that shows the darker corners and shadows that have crept up alongside – that kind of subtle, yet extremely powerful quality that Reed would bring to his long run of solo albums in the 70s – but served up here with more of an edge, in the definite VU fashion. Titles include the seminal classics – "Sweet Jane" and "Rock & Roll", plus "Cool It Down", "New Age", "Head Held High", "Lonesome Cowboy Bill", "Oh Sweet Nuthin", and "I Found A Reason". Previously unreleased Power Pop/Mod and New Wave gems from THE TYPES. Formed in Hamburg in 1979 with the spirit of The Clash, Buzzcocks and The Jam, the four teenagers played tons of gigs, especially at legendary local venues as Markthalle or Knust. Each time the packed crowds went wild and soon a producer invited them to record their 4 best songs at the Brunwey Studio. Everything went like clockwork, but then a pre-contract with Polydor broke and in the end the recordings survived on only a handful cassette tapes. Now, more than 40 years later, Thomas Koch (ex-A.d.s.W fanzine) remembered the band and started searching for traces and tracked down one of the members, the multi-talented artist Jon Flemming Olsen. And here it is … four lost nuggets from the golden age … THE TYPES … a blast from the past!!! (Including a re-print of their first gig poster & sticker) (Time For Action Records)
