AMMO | web of lies / death won’t even satisfy | LP

Original price was: €21.50.Current price is: €16.00. incl. tax
"Web of Lies / Death Won’t Even Satisfy is the vinyl debut from this hardcore band from New Jersey, and it is a full-bore scorcher. Ammo plays ferocious US-style hardcore with a lunging, unhinged style that reminds me of groups like early Agnostic Front, Void, and Eye for an Eye-era Corrosion of Conformity… not so much in style, but in the way Ammo sounds like they’re maniacs who might materialize out of your home speakers in order to slash your throat. It’s a rare enough feat to capture this sort of wild energy on tape, but Ammo fuses this crazy energy with memorable songwriting, with tracks like “Black Site,” “Slam Slam Slam,” and “Ethnostate” hitting even harder because they’re so damn catchy. Sounding fast and crazy is Ammo’s forte, but their secret weapon is their ability to play at mid tempo, like on the crushing NYHC-style mosh part in “Known Unknown” and the singalong during the breakdown to the epic “All You Do (Is Want Me to Die).” I love music that expands hardcore’s boundaries, but Ammo isn’t that… they distill hardcore its essence, their sound ground down to the sharpness of a knife’s edge. This is not a record to sleep on." (Daniel Lupton) (Static Shock Records)
  • Amyl and the Sniffers are a punk band possessed by the spirit of seventies Australian rock. Amy Taylor (vocals), Bryce Wilson (drums), Dec Martens (guitar) are former housemates who formed the band, wrote a handful of tunes and released their debut EP, Giddy Up, all in a span of twelve hours. Completing their line up with Gus Romer on bass, the band take their cues from a diverse bunch of legends including AC/DC, Cosmic Psychos, Dolly Parton and Die Antwoord, setting out to have as much fun as possible. Their 2nd EP, Big Attraction, was released in February 2017, kicking off a stellar year for these young punks. Growing buzz around their blistering live show made the band a hot tip at Bigsound in Brisbane, while the band was added to festival line-ups including Meredith and CherryRock17. The band and were invited to join the Cosmic Psychos on their forthcoming November/December tour and capped off the year with a sellout NYE show at the legendary Tote in their home town of Melbourne. 2018 sees Amyl And The Sniffers ratchet up another couple of gears with their first national headline tour in April followed by UK shows in May, and their first North American tour in June with fellow Melbournians King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard. Already renowned for a ball-tearing live show, The Sniffers made their international debut as one of the hottest tipped acts at The Great Escape in 2018. Soon afterwards, they signed deals with both Rough Trade Records and ATO Records, made a massively hyped appearance at SXSW, and finally released their self-titled debut album in 2019, landing them an ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Award for Best Rock Album, capping off a wild year for the lunatic, likeable punks. Late in 2020, Amyl and The Sniffers went into the studio with producer Dan Luscombe to record their sophomore album, Comfort To Me. Written over a long year of lockdown, the album was influenced by and expanded on a heavier pool of references - old-school rock’n’roll (AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, Motörhead and Wendy O Williams), modern hardcore (Warthog and Power Trip) and the steady homeland heroes (Coloured Balls and Cosmic Psychos). Lyrically, the album was influenced by Taylor’s rap idols and countless garage bands and in her words ‘I had all this energy inside of me and nowhere to put it, because I couldn’t perform, and it had a hectic effect on my brain. My brain evolved and warped and my way of thinking about the world completely changed.’ Seventeen songs were recorded in the Comfort to Me sessions and the top 13 made the cut. They were mixed long-distance by Nick Launay (Nick Cave, IDLES, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and mastered by Bernie Grundman (Michael Jackson, Prince, Dr Dre). Comfort To Me demonstrates the same irrepressible smarts, integrity and fearless candour as their debut but as you’d expect of any young band five years on, their sound has evolved, in Amy’s words it’s ‘raw self expression, defiant energy and unapologetic vulnerability.’ Label: Rough Trade Records Barcode: 1 91402 02501 9

A reissue of the third single on All the Madmen Records from 1980. The single was recorded at Spaceward Studios in Cambridge where The Mob, Swell Maps and Stiff little Fingers all recorded. Andy Stratton was a sixteen year old punk from Somerset who hung out with The Mob and the Yeovil punks. The drummer on this single was Graham Fallows who was still a member of The Mob at the time these two songs were recorded. Andy had never played a gig under his name but decided to go into a studio and record these two gems. I Don’t Know is a glorious punk pop nugget that has style and sass. Think a mix of the Buzzcocks’ Pete Shelley vocally Pete Fender’s only 7” Four Formulas (For The Eradication Of Microbes) and the early Good Vibrations records releases. The flip Evil Minds is a more laidback and bleak track that leans heavily on the influence of the Mob. After this 7” Andy went on to form the greatly under appreciated Null and Void. Comes with insert featuring an interview and a few pictures. Label: Sealed Records
  • Composed of members of hardcore outfits Trapped Under Ice and Turnstile, you might expect plenty of punk rock fury to match the anger of the times. But Yak is very much the calm after the storm of those acts. Instead, erstwhile TUI frontman Justice Tripp guides his cohorts through a breezy selection of songs that echo the explosion of melodic, post-punk U.S. indie-rock of the ’80s and ’90s. ‘YAK: A Collection of Truck Songs’ follows Angel Du$t’s 2019’s album ‘Pretty Buff’ and sees the group channelling an anything-goes philosophy into their tightest, most forward-thinking material yet. Recorded over a two-month period in Los Angeles last year, the album is a rotating smorgasbord of percussion, guitar tones, effects, genres, and influences, fashioned in the spirit of a playlist as opposed to a capital-R ‘Record.’ The album’s 12 tracks span jangle-rock gems (‘Big Bite’), piano-spiked power pop (‘No Fun’), and a breezy duet with Rancid’s Tim Armstrong (‘Dancing On The Radio’). ‘YAK: A Collection of Truck Songs’ also features ‘Love Is The Greatest’, ‘All The Way Dumb’, ‘Turn Off The Guitar’ and ‘Never Ending Game’, all of which appeared on Angel Du$t’s 2021 EP ‘Bigger House’, Breezy but determined as they imbue their laid-back acoustics with sharpness, Angel Du$t continue to prove they are band averse to boundaries. The band’s Roadrunner Records debut ‘Pretty Buff’ was produced by Will Yip and earned the band critical acclaim. Label: Pop Wig Records Barcode: 075678641466

A 44-track 2CD set covering every A and B-side issued by Punk legends Angelic Upstarts between 1978-85. Running in chronological order, it starts with the self released ‘The Murder Of Liddle Towers’ and is followed by the major label debut of ‘I’m An Upstart’ which hit No.31 in the UK charts. ‘Teenage Warning’ then hit No.29 and saw the band in the nation’s living rooms via their appearance on Top Of The Pops. A hat-trick of hits was completed when ‘Never ‘Ad Nothin’ hit No.52 in late 1979. The band moved into the 1980s with hits like ‘Out Of Control’ (No.58), ‘We Gotta Get Out Of This Place’ (No.58 and incredibly appearing here on CD for the first time in its original 7” version), ‘Last Night Another Soldier’ (No.65) and ‘Kids On The Street’ (No.57) before they switched to (then) newly established Independent label Anagram Records. The hits kept coming though: ‘Woman In Disguise’ reached No.18 in the Independent Chart, swiftly followed by a No.24 for ‘Solidarity’. Despite numerous disruptive line-up changes vocalist Mensi remained a constant throughout and achieved further notoriety with the No.14 ‘Machine Gun Kelly’ and the No.4 ‘Brighton Bomb’. Each of the 17 singles featured has a detailed history included in the booklet which is illustrated by the original sleeves. Original press from 1988 on German label Subway Records, not a bootleg! Probably the most important "unknown" band in the history of punk rock, this unfailingly offensive, undeniably brilliant gaggle of rock critics and hooligans went out of its way to offend 99% of society while inspiring the remaining 1% to paroxysms of joy. This early-'80s collection ranks with the band's finest, highlighted by sonic joyrides like "They Saved Hitler's Cock" and "My Old Man's a Fatso." The Samoan influence extends through to 1997, with their songs popping up regularly in sets by bands such as the Foo Fighters (who often open with "Gas Chamber," included here) and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones (known to pop off a cover of Back From Samoa's "Lights Out"). File under: how to win friends and alienate people.--David Sprague Originally released in 1982. (Subway Records/1988)

From the ashes of VOM rose the Angry Samoans! In 1978 they recorded their first demos in a cheap two track studio. Some of these tracks have appeared as bonus tracks on long deleted album re-issues, others were released on a long deleted 7´´, one sees the light of day for the first time ever! In true Samoans style the album is sharp and short and finally the complete demos are now released on one piece of vinyl that plays at 45 rpm. (Bad Trip Records)
  • Oakland punk legends Annihilation Time play furious hardcore that builds its sound on the foundation laid down from 1980's California bands like Black Flag, Aggression, and Bl'ast. Formed in 2001 by guitarist Graham Clise, vocalist Fred Hammer, drummer Jamie Sanitate and bassist Chris Grande, Annihilation Time released its debut LP in 2002 and then proceeded to shake up the scene with its rampaging live show, honed by multiple tours of the U.S. and Europe. The band's second release, II, originally released in 2005, stands as an American power punk rock classic, blending together the riffs of Thin Lizzy and Motorhead with the snarl of Spazz and Siege. The sound Annihilation Time created - snotty psychedelic hardcore punk fueled by booze, Vans Old Skools, and lots of drugs - was christened by the band themselves as "creep rock." This LP has it all: chugging fat skate punk riffage, raunchy rock, ear-shredding mid sections overflowing with scorching garage/stoner thrash and a very surreal and psychedelic vibe that's hard to explain. This is the perfect storm of hyperactive metallic-punk and high-energy headbanging!!! What are you waiting for??!?!!?!?? Label: Tee Pee Records Barcode: 707239020617

This release was the 1st output from ANNIHILATION TIME. This is furious hardcore taking from '80s California bands like BLACK FLAG, AGGRESSION, and BL'AST. A must for fans of scorching, atonal lead breaks, frantic vocals, and off-time, start-stop time signatures. Colored repress is limited to 500 copies. (Indecision Records)

What started as a one off project for a bit of fun on the Fuzzbrain Records Compilation LP in 2019, quickly mutated into a fully fledged band made up of four UK heads with plenty under their collective belts: Ben Woolf (Blind Authority, Lawful Killing, Frame Of Mind, Stages in Faith, Layback), Bobby Cole (The Annihilated, Churchgoers), Jon Osbourne (Mastermind), and Ollie Hudd (Fortbragg Zine). When QC heard this ‘demo’ it was so in your face we just knew we had to put it on wax, because this blend of Krackdown and Outburst era NYHC with a still distinct London hardcore sound will blow your fuckin’ face off! Live expect some crazy energy and antics that’s hard as nails. Who else is gonna do a hardcore version of the James Bond theme? Stay warned, friends. Label: Quality Control Records
