Southern lord proudly announces an incredible collaboration between label artists boris and ian astbury (the cult and the doors). this finely-crafted four-song release, simply entitled bxi, was tracked and mixed in tokyo in late april. astbury's iconic rock vocals are a perfect match for boris's straightforward, laid-back, but still raw and imaginative song writing constructed for the mini album; another intriguing display within the band's ever-morphing, extensive resume of releases, tours and collaborations. bxi showcases the already unclassifiable rock of boris in an entirely new light, and shows a new side to one of rock and roll's most notorious singers. the release features three new original tracks, as well as a cover of the cult's song 'rain', ethereally vocalised by boris guitarist wata. art and design for the release was commissioned to stephen o'malley (ideologic.org, sunno))), etc.). the result is stunning. both boris and ian enjoyed working together so much that they have already planned to perform together on stage in the coming months. there is already talks of a follow up to this amazing recording. Glorior Belli can now be considered with no doubt as one of the best band from France along with masters such as Blut Aus Nord and Deathspell Omega: people who have no fear to experiment with other genres, although in a bigger way than them. Their sophomore album Manifesting the Raging Beast was released in June 2007 via Southern Lord Records. (Southern Lord Records) -
Southern Lord seem to have left the doomy drones of their past behind, at least for 2011. Heartless continues the label’s trek into contemporary hardcore metal, and ‘Hell Is Other People’ is an expert splinter of the genre, with the Pennsylvania act tramping through thirteen songs in a mere twenty-one minutes. Not a second is wasted as they bring to mind the best of ‘Scum’-era Napalm and more contemporary metal-core activists Raspberry Bulbs or Bone Awl. This album is the accumulation of two of the worst years of our lives. During these trying times of emotional and social turbulence NTEKA was our shelter, safe space and go-to coping mechanism to deal with all this struggle, sorrow and anger. This album is not only our defense but also an attack towards the new politics of control being shoved down our throats. A way not only to express our frustration but to reclaim our voices, our bodies, our lives, the way we want. As we see it, the only way to accomplish this was by doing things ourselves and by building a network of like minded people outside of the commercial game, without bosses, payments, obligation and third parties' mediations. The band is a part of a self organized music studio (STUΔIO) in Athens and everything was done there from scratch. In this space we learned how to play our instruments, we jammed continuously, we laughed, we cried, we shouted collectively. In this space we became a band. Sarabante is a hardcore/crust band from Athens, Greece. “Remnants” is the bands debut release. The band was brought to the attention of Southern Lord by Brad Boatright of From Ashes Rise. The late great LA punk scene hero Rik L Rik's (F Word, Negative Trend) only solo album is a killer collection of singles, compilation tracks -- Beach Blvd (1979) and Rodney On The Roq (1980) --, live recordings, and unreleased tracks spanning punk, goth-rock, and new wave. Rik L Rik was a true original, parading around LA barefoot, living at his parents' house well into his 20s, and generally not giving a fuck in pure punk fashion. One of the most extreme and poweful records ever on Havoc. Martyrdöd unleash intense raw Swedish hardcore with some Black Metal influences. Almost 30 years since their inception, the members of Engine Kid got together a few months ago to hang out and record new music. The result of which arrives by way of the "Special Olympics" EP flexi disc/digital EP on 3rd December via Southern Lord. Some fans may recognize the song "Special Olympics" which, like others on this release, are reworkings of old material which were never recorded. The music represents the sonic direction that the band were heading before they disbanded. With this EP, Engine Kid commemorate the joy of playing music together for the first time in 26 years, and pick up where they left off. As Jade Devitt comments, "The musical commitment and connection that we forged in the 90’s has held like a magnet, finally pulling us together after 26 years! The newly recorded songs were dusted off blueprints from our very last practice tapes from the summer of ’95. Now enhanced with experience & age and new arrangements. The Kid flies again." Earlier this year, the 90’s post-hardcore collective featuring Greg Anderson (Southern Lord label owner, also in Sunn O))), Goatsnake & Thorr's Hammer) released a 6-LP box set of their career-spanning recordings on color vinyl LP's for the first time titled Everything Left Inside (find out more about that here) Engine Kid’s Brian Kraft adds, "Greg, Jade and I spent the summer and fall of 2020 gathering old photos, flyers, artwork and audio rehearsals /remixes/remasters for the Everything Left Inside box set. This remote reunion of the Kid made me realize how important Greg, Jade and Engine Kid was and is in my life. The reconnection led to recording some new material. It felt as if we were continuing right where we left off.” Engine Kid’s first new material since 1995, the “Special Olympics” EP’s cover art is a symbolic metaphor about living one's best life, and with swagger.
