Out of stockYour favorite mid-tempo manglers are back and you should hold on to your fucking shit because this noisy hardcore punk outfit will make you want to fight someone. GAG is from Olympia WA and bring deranged, distorted and noisy hardcore with strength and anger. This record is a continuous attack on your senses. And I mean that in the best possible way! Ferocious dissonant hardcore focused in intensity and all-out rage. Experimental hardcore, an album of feedback and reverb drenched punk. A storming sea full of noise, with delayed waves!
Our friends at sorry state said: I've loved this band pretty much from the beginning, but "Locker Room" just blows away their previous records with heavy, spot-on production and a complete sense of recklessness that very, very few bands are capable of capturing on record. Much like Gay Kiss and Avon Ladies, Gag at their best have this way of combining the meathead brutality of Hoax with something more dissonant, uncomfortable and exciting. Basically, what that means is that the bass player is playing a total pit-clearing riff while the guitar player(s?) just wail out with sheets of noise over the top. A simple formula, perhaps, but one that is executed to perfection here. This is the type of band you expect to see people emerging from the pit bruised and bloody after watching them. Part II of our "Original INSTIGATORS 30th Anniversary" releases. This 12" LP includes the 'Blood Is On Your Hands' 7" originally released on Bluurg Records 1984 and available on vinyl for the first time since its release. Also included are two remastered tracks from PAX's 'Bollox To The Gonads" Compilation 1984 and unheard and rare DEMO recordings. The original INSTIGATORS were part of the gig-possé around 'Flux of Pink Indians' and 'Subhumans' and you can hear a lot of influence coming from this direction. Another must have of classic and essential anarcho punk for your collection! This LP package includes a huge foldout sheet with lyrics, photos and bandhistory/linernotes by Hammy. The group was initially formed in 1977 under the name of Steel, one of the most famous events with their participation took place in 1984 on Chaos Festival which shows a real split between punks and nazi skinheads; the band decides to play his song No SS, which was the cause of riots among the audience. This LP includes the songs from their 7" (1983) with the same title plus 4 tracks used for compilations and one unreleased song from EP session. Label: Euthanasie Records

Sale!A long forgotten classic LP, finally back in print, in an edition of 500 copies on 180-gram vinyl. Formed in the late '70s at the same high school that spawned L.A. legends T.S.O.L., Rhino 39 had an unfortunate fate. After releasing a legendary single on Dangerhouse in 1979, one of the earliest examples of L.A. hc, lead singer Dave Dacron died in a car accident in 1980. His younger brother took over lead singing duties and though it took another six years for the self-titled debut-LP to be released, it still sounds like classic early 80s L.A. punk. A legendary band with a long forgotten classic LP finally back in print on Radiation Deluxe. 180 gram vinyl. Edition of 500. Label: Radiation Records

A brief but dense dose of simply hulking intense turmoil. Subtle terminology is trite, so to get to the point: S.H.I.T., the LP, blurs by in under twenty minutes of thrashing hardcore gristle. Gone are the tell-tale training wheels of delayed vocals and endless layers of feedback, here now are the tighter louder songs we'd hoped S.H.I.T. would write. A piercing musical rallying cry for the listless and ever approaching bulldoze march of the future, wrapped in cellophane transfers of melted early hardcore and the best of the last decade's fresh take on simplicity and power. What do you Stand for? comes housed in a sleeve designed by legendary hc punk outsider and former S.H.I.T. designer, Jaybo. The intricately illustrated hellish image was produced with bleach onto a massive bedsheet, though the entire package is wrapped in a self censored outer sleeve, seemingly in the service of protecting the purchaser's dignity. Additional design by Ryan Tong. Label: La Vida Es Un Mus Records/ Iron Lung Records

With a slight line up change in the drum department we see RAKTA tighten up their more tense, soundtrack natured developments alongside their more sparse and vulnerable elegance. They consistently manage to create a tripped out creep chamber with room to explore as the aura builds to nightmare crescendos juxtaposed with shaking silences. Simultaneously eerie and serene. With each new release we see more and more of what makes this group so essential in the canon of modern music. 300 copies on black vinyl and 100 on bone colour vinyl housed in a beautiful printed inner sleeve inside a heavy duty reversible cover with a vellum insert. Recorded by Fernando Sanchez. Mastered by James Plotkin. Art by André Penteado, Karlla Giratto and Rakta. Includes digital pre-order of Falha Comum. Out of stockWrithing, sneering, tight cornered, "Machine Response" the only acceptable follow up to the blistering and landmark "Attempted Suicide." Nearly ten years of beating around the bush, casually playing around the world and drip releasing music along the way, Career Suicide is backed by their best lineup ever, ready to break back through themselves with this new full length. Machine Response veers in and out of pure speed, bursts of melody, and chunky tempo shifts, indenting the long standing influence of early 80s USHC, late 70s punk, and a peppering of 60s swagger, with their own clearly developed style. Dallas Good (Sadies, Andre Williams, John Doe, Half Japanese, Elevator and a million more) presents a magnificently essential 2nd guitar and lead presence; a screaming contribution by great friend and long time supporter of the band, Souichi Hisatake, (Forward, GISM, Insane Youth, Gudon etc) to crack your brain up; artwork in collaboration with Ryan Tong of S.H.I.T. and Toronto's life-giving Faith/Void; and a thundering recording, once again helmed by the decorated and limitless in his pursuit of smooth hearing loss, Jon Drew, provide the most damaging clarity Career Suicide have been able to capture to date. Out of stockOriginally released in 1985, this is the sole album by Tony Cadenas' own The Abandoned, the band he formed after the Adolescents original break up in 1981. Sounding a lot like Tony's original band but with an heavier Germs influence, and a more metallic, darker, almost Motörhead-esque touch. As long as Adolescents got back on track, right before releasing their mid '80s comeback masterpiece 'Brats In Battalions' this obscure page of California punk rock history got completely forgotten and was never reopened until today. A band that really pushed the boundaries for the time while sticking to their roots, something most bands were not able to do. A must for all California punk rock maniacs out there! The Swedish masters of SCANDI-CRUST are finally back on the map with their first new recordings/songs since 2008's "DEFY!" Album on Profane Existence. 5 songs of roaring bulldozer CRUSTCORE with the WARCOLLAPSE heaviness and the unmistaken old school vibe of 90'ties crust-league veterans DOOM, SARCASM and of course some wretched, wrecked and wasted ANTI-CIMEX and DISCHARGE. You can hear the 25 years of crust as fuck existence through this recording. - Artwork by Mr. Stiv of War. Label: Phobia Records https://phobiarecords.bandcamp.com/album/warcollapse-deserts-of-ash-lp

Out of stockIf you are familiar with their debut "Holding Back the Night" LP you have some idea what to expect here. For those who have not heard the band, expect some powerful, genre expanding hardcore punk from a group with members in Florida, Texas, and Japan. The band is fronted by Jack Control, from the same WORLD BURNS TO DEATH and SEVERED HEAD OF STATE with Jon Weisberg from ASSHOLEPARADE, LIFECHAIN, RELIGIOUS AS FUCK, STARVATION and WORLDS providing Drumbeats and on guitars are Adler Moore (AGHAST, LIFECHAIN, HERETIC) and Souichi Hisatake (GUDON, FORWARD). This second record takes the sound they crafted on the first LP and ramps up the power, tempo, and raw punk aggression. Ten tracks of pure fucking raw/thrashing hardcore punk paying homage to POISON IDEA or G.I.S.M.! Label: La Familia Releases

Out of stockBack in 1983 Tokyo’s NURSE released what probably is the first Japanese all female hardcore record on the cult label Incest Records (INC-002). A red 7” Flexi which showed 4 innocent looking girls on the cover but displayed an unheard amount of ferocious hard hitting hardcore punk on the 8 songs Flexi produced by Baki of EXECUTE/ GASTUNK. The Following year the almighty ADK Records added them to their roster releasing a 5 track EP (ADK-13E ) produced by label owner Tam of TYPHUS/ STALIN fame. The speed went down a notch but the rawness and aggression was still there. Sadly that record marked the end of NURSE’s recording career. Had they released an LP they’ll be heralded as highly as COMES which usually is the first band that comes to mind to most people when thinking of female fronted Japanese bands. After years of their recordings been deleted on vinyl, both singles becoming absolute staples on any Japanese punk want list and the band’s underground following growing, La Vida Es Un Mus decided to repress both 7”s on a heavy weight LP to make sure a new generation discover the excellence of one of the all time great under rated bands. To celebrate our release number 100, Agipunk is proud to announce the world that we'll be officially putting out the first and only Wretched singles collection approved by the ex members of the band. The collection will include the split 7" with Indigesti, the "In Nome Del Loro Potere" 7" EP, the "Finirà Mai" 7" EP and the "In Controluce" single 7". The songs will sound better than ever as the original records and tapes have been remastered for delivering a new vibe of destructive CHAOS NON MUSICA!!! The record will be pressed in 1000 copies and will come in a nice gatefold cover with tons of never seen pictures of the band playing, travelling, demonstrating and having fun. Label: Agipunk Records

Out of stockFollowing up on their fantastic 7-track 12” from last year, Singapore's SIAL is back with Binasa, a new 6-track 7" with a Malay title that translates to 'Perish'. Binasa sees the band pushing their cacophony of urgent and raw hardcore punk to the red. It takes cues from the likes of COMES, CONFUSE or LEBENDEN TOTEN but makes sure their ferocious sound and message doesn’t get lost in the noise. Their new release is a feast of ripping buzzsaw guitar, ferocious drumming and a vocalist spitting hate towards a racist, classist society that doesn't protect the interests of the marginalised. Recording this time around was done in their own collective studio space, Project 416 with Mastering done by Will Killingsworth and cover artwork by their drummer Izzad. HARLEY FLANAGAN's solo recordings from 1982-1983. The CRO-MAGS are without a doubt, one of the most influential New York Hardcore bands of all time, and these are the 1st demos ever recorded by the sole founding member of the band. Out of stockInspired by Killing Joke, UK DEcay, Theatre Of Hate and 77 punk rock, Paralisis Permanente formed in Madrid in 1981. This record is an awesome collection of most of this bands (non-bootleg) singles. The music is in Spanish and if you like Alaska y Los Pegamoides (their previous band) then you will love this one. This album's songs and lyrics are dark and is just a great album. I recommend it to whoever likes Paralisis Permanente and will always be a fan of their work and of Eduardo Benavente. Out of stockOutstanding discography Lp from this Cult Yugoslav hardcore band. Most people know their track on Welcome to to 1984 and some have picked up the Corpus Delecti 7" re issue, this Lp contains those, plus more comp tracks, demos and out takes. After demoing for several weeks at home in Austin, the anarcho punk band Institute tracked and mixed Catharsis in just four days between Christmas and New Year's Eve 2014, in New York City with Ben Greenberg at Brooklyn's Gary’s Electric. "Cheerlessness" carves out the perfect trine foundation to aspect both the anthemic "Cheaptime Morals" and the much looser jam "Christian Right" (the latter featuring fellow Texan Andrew Savage of Parquet Courts). Issues of morality, sexuality and religion are all interwoven seamlessly throughout the 10 tracks as the band explores new sonic astral space. Label: Sacred Bones Records Barcode: 616892279846

This was released in 2008, over 20 years after the band's last official release! Formed in 1982 MOB 47 were contemporaries with ANTI-CIMEX and played a similar style of breakneck hardcore punk. Between 1982 and 1987 they released several cassettes, the famous "Kärnvapen Attack" EP and appeared on numerous compilations. Members of MOB 47 also played in other classic ‘80s punk bands such as AGONI, CRUDITY, RÖJERS, DISCARD and PROTEST BENGT. In 2005, the band officially reformed and in May of 2006 played their first live gig in more than 20 years. This EP is eight songs of classic Mob 47, picking up right where they left off 20 years ago. Same raw guitars, machine gun drums, and pissed off vocals that made this band the stuff of legends. Absolutely killer raw 80s hardcore punk. Get into this, this is a blast! Label: D-Takt & Råpunk Records, Farewell Records

Portland post-punk act the Estranged recalls the early ’80s heyday of challenging, intelligent bands such as the Wipers, Wire, and Mission of Burma. Their album STATIC THOUGHTS thrives on the taut-muscled tension to be heard in Joy Division’s sinewy rhythms and squalls of guitar. “Don’t They Know” rides a penetrating bass line into spidery guitar webs; “Exhibition” is a moody, downbeat ripper similar to recent material from Hot Snakes. With a tightrope-walking sense of balance plus a relentless beat, the Estranged are revitalizing three-chord punk songs and discovering new-found possibilities Label: Sabotage Records

Out of stockThe debut album from New York-based Talking Heads is a slice of brilliant schizophrenic pop. David Byrne (guitar and vocals), Tina Weymouth (bass), Chris Frantz (drums), and Jerry Harrision (keyboards and guitar) create their own unique sound on classic TH tracks like "Psycho Killer" and "Uh-Oh, Love Comes To Town." The urgency of the music heralds in the beginnings of the new wave era. Talking Heads: 77 shows a band at the forefront of a movement, unwilling to conform while making a statement with their sound. Gatefold (blank inside) insert with lyrics, credits and picture. On 180-Gram Vinyl LP. (Rhino Records)

Television were part of the late-'70s punk nucleus that put New York's CBGB club on the map. Driven by Tom Verlaine's raw-nerve songwriting and both his and Richard Lloyd's guitar playing - dual strands of slashing hooks and cathartic riffs - their music is spare yet structurally complex, artistic yet unpretentious. Among rock's true innovators, Television put a new face on punk and influenced everything from New Wave to jam-rock. Adventure is the band's second album and the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut, Marquee Moon. Four of the songs, Foxhole, Ain't That Nothing, Careful and The Dream's Dream were older compositions from the band's live set. Label: Rhino Records

THIS ITEM IS A PRE-ORDER! YOUR ORDER WILL SHIP ON/OR AROUND MAY, THANKS! The New Wave of Brutality and Hardcore Massacre has arrived. Tokyo punks KRIEGSHÖG are back with their first full length. After 3 7”s that we love at LVEUM they finally went for the album. Thirteen tracks of extremely bass driven hardcore destruction. The recording is relentless, full of energy and distorted. Yet moving from the ultra blown out recording of their earlier output. This is the band’s most dynamic recording so far and in our humble opinion is destined to be a classic and genre defining album. Label: La Vida Es Un Mus

Out of stockEuropean press of FRAMTID's last release. Osaka crust legends FRAMTID return with the first recording since their line up change which brought a new drummer and bass player. As expected the "Horrific Visions" continues what the band started nearly twenty years ago: Their own take on classic early Swedish hardcore with and added over the top delivery, massive distortion and relentless drumming, all mixed with a really strong Anti War message. It is hard not to be infected by their sound as the aggression and song craft remain unmatched with B side opener "By Any Reason" showing a side of FRAMTID we hadn't seen yet mixing samples of war documentaries over a hypnotic more metallic slow paced song. Overall a fantastic release proving why they are probably the best band with black and white overexposed artwork and over-saturated guitar tone there is. The record is pretty much identical than the us press other than coming in a pocket sleeve and have a different B side label. Label: La Vida Es Un Mus Records

RATA NEGRA from Madrid deliver twelve songs of dark, crude and moody punk on their debut LP. Formed of members from JUANITA Y LOS FEOS and LA URSS this power trio have distilled the negativity and uncertainly of the young Spanish generation and transformed it into perfectly crafted punk songs. Sharply turning snaps of daily life into melodic anthems for a doomed generation, musically RATA NEGRA fence between dark melodic OC punk a la RIKK AGNEW solo debut album and Spanish Punk ’83 via KGB/ VULPESS. Imagine the non keyboard tracks of Yugoslavian KAOS mixed with LA’S X melody, add to it a layer of distortion and a dose of vital desperation and you get close to RATA NEGRA’s sound. Oído Absoluto comes housed in a reverse board sleeve with printed inner. Both designed by guitarist Fa of Croke Studio and it is released as a collaboration between Beat Generation in Madrid and La Vida Es Un Mus Discos in Hackney. Label: La Vida Es Un Mus

One of the best kept secrets of 80's California Hardcore Punk, Target of Demand hailed from Long Beach and only released this 10-track smasher on the small Happy Hermit label and a couple compilation tracks before disbanding. Due to their very short existence as a band, and the fact that they were much more influenced by Teen Idles or SS Decontrol and the sounds coming out of Boston and the Midwest, rather than what was going on in California at the time, this incredibly ripping U.S. hardcore mayhem hasn’t been reissued until now. Remastered by California punk legend Geza X, from the original analog tapes, this is 100% pure American hardcore from 1983. For fans of Black Flag, Poison Idea, Minor Threat, early Suicidal Tendencies. Limited edition of 500 copies with original artwork and double sided lyrics insert. Influential Swedish hardcore band Refused were formed in 1991 by vocalist Dennis Lyxzén, guitarists Jon Brännström and Kristofer Steen, bassist Magnus Höggren, and drummer David Sandström. Debuting in 1993 with the EP This Is the New Deal, the group issued the full-length This Just Might Be…the Truth later that same year. The Everlasting EP followed in 1994, and in 1995 Refused returned with another EP, Refused Loves Randy. After 1996’s Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent, they issued the EP Rather Be Dead; in the wake of completing 1998’s classic The Shape of Punk to Come, Refused disbanded, unable to reconcile their anarchist leanings with a career in music. Steady Diet of Nothing is the second full-length studio album by American post-
hardcore band Fugazi, released in July, 1991 The style of this is different from "13 songs" and "repeater" but it still has the FUGAZI sound. Here they got more abstract and artsy - but it really works. So if you like any of their other stuff go and buy this. The vinyl was re-cut and re-mastered in 2009 and comes with a digital download card. Silver vinyl. Label: Dischord Records -
Out of stockRepeater is the full-length debut studio album by the American post-hardcore band Fugazi. It was released on April 19, 1990. Hands down the best FUGAZI record. Out of stockSometimes a band just builds a kind of momentum where they just produce more and more rippers and Olympia’s PHYSIQUE are clearly locked into a serious groove. ‘THE RHYTHM OF BRUTALITY’, their third 12″ in a year and a half, and released in time for their upcoming rampage across Europe, is another uncompromising slice of crasher crust ugliness, guitars hissing and squealing in anguish, searing radiation-buzz noise crudely marshalled into seven nasty hardcore salvos, from the punchy d-beat of ‘We Make Noise’ to the punishing stomp of the title track and ‘Miserable Existence’, with its propulsive rolling punk beat half-drowned in feedback filth. PHYSIQUE slam together a knack for disgusting sonics with rock solid riffs for a rawpunk record in the vein of Disaster or Fader War that will scour the paint from your walls. At the end of 1982, Ian MacKaye entered the studio to record "government issue" and, in just one day, they came up with 20 tracks, most of them issued as the "boycott stabb" album. It has since been reissued on a number of different labels and formats, but after coming across the master tapes and hearing the songs that had been left off, Dischord thought it would be cool to release the complete session on a proper full-length. The vinyl was re-cut and re-mastered in 2010 and comes with a digital download card. Label: Dischord Records

The fall of 1981 found the Washington, DC punk scene in one of the first of many fallow periods when a number of active bands broke up at the same time. SOA, Minor Threat, Red C and The Untouchables had all split up, and this resulted in a number of the musicians reorganizing. Mike and Ivor from SOA formed a new band with Alec of The Untouchables singing and another Wilson High School kid, Chris Bald, on bass. They called themselves 'The Faith' and played their first show at H.B. Woodlawn High School in November '81. At the end of 1982, Eddie (also a former member of The Untouchables) joined Faith as a second guitarist and six months later they recorded the Subject to Change 12" EP. Though clocking in at less than 14 minutes, this record was hugely important to the people here in D.C. and to others around the country and the world that were interested in the music here. On Subject to Change Faith introduced a layered melodic approach that would blossom fully in later Faith-related bands like Rites of Spring and Embrace. Unfortunately, by the time anybody heard Subject to Change, the band was no more. The interpersonal strife proved too much and Faith played their last show in August 1983. The record was released posthumously four months later. While Minor Threat is often held up as the preeminent DC band of the early years, for many of the people living here it was with the Faith that they felt the strongest connection to, and it was a sad day when they played their last show. For this reissued edition of Subject to Change we have expanded the release from its original EP format into a full-length with the addition of 11 tracks from the band's first demo recorded in 1981 at Inner Ear Studios. Most of these songs were later re-recorded and included on the band's 1982 split LP with Void (DIS 008LP)." Label: Dischord Records

Out of stockMarginal Man was formed in 1983 after the break-up of Artificial Peace, a seminal DC hardcore punk band. Featuring former AP members Steve Polcari, Pete Murray and Mike Manos, and joined with Kenny Inouye and Andre Lee, Marginal Man released one EP ("Identity"), and two LPs ("Double Image" and "Marginal Man"), along with a couple of appearances on compilations ("Alive And Kicking," and "State Of The Union"). "Identity" was recorded in 1983 by Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studios and was originally released as a 12" EP in 1984. The 12" EP was re-cut in April 2009 at Chicago Mastering Service and is being re-issued on vinyl for the first time since the mid-'80s. The vinyl also comes with a free MP3 download. LIFE'S BLOOD were a legendary short lived band from New York City. Formed in 1987, LIFE'S BLOOD Played 20 shows and recorded 2 radio shows, a Demo at Don Fury and one 7" "Defiance" released on Combined Effort Records and appeared on the seminal "NEW BREED" tape comp in 1988. In these short 14 months as band they left an indelible mark on the history of hardcore punk, as their sharp, earnest, and challenging lyrics backed with remarkably sturdy, dissonant and distorted hardcore songs emerged at a time where the focus of Underground hardcore had been blurred by commercialism, crossover and violence. HARDCORE A.D. 1988 Collects 27 songs from their Defiance EP, demo tape, compilation tracks, their post humous split EP WITH STICKS AND STONES, WFMU and WNYU recordings and Live tracks with new liner notes from Guittarist Adam Nathanson, extensive band notes compiled by Bassist Neil Burke with extensive photos and flyers. Mastered at George Horn mastering, with packaging designed by Jack Barfield at Neolithic Print Cartel. The LP comes in a Stoughton tip on gatefold with a 11x22" insert and download card. This is the first time LIFE'S BLOOD's material has been officially available in almost two decades. After LIFE'S BLOOD dissolved Guitarist Adam Nathanson formed BORN AGAINST, bassist Neil Burke was in the initial line Up of BORN AGAINST as well as MENACE DEMENT, SINKING BODY and MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT, drummer Jon Kricksciun and final LIFE'S BLOOD singer Sean Murphy played in COLLAPSE, and original vocalist Jason O'Toole recently sang for MY RIFLE. Gatefold with a 11 x 22″ insert and download card. Label: Prank Records

London has been fanning the flames of hardcore punk relentlessly, producing some of the best music of the genre for a while now. Enter Mastermind, four young guns kicking it up a notch or five. Starting in 2018, and after a well received demo on Cold Comfort, here comes their scorching new release, ‘Bad Reaction’ EP, on Quality Control HQ Records. Prepare to have your mind mastered in the art of the wildest hardcore songwriting, where a 3 minute song can keep you engaged throughout and doesn’t seem out of the norm. Karim Newble, also the resident artist of the band, takes you through the waviest of riffs that remind you of the crazy end of late 80s NYHC, from such legends as Rest in Pieces and Killing Time. Meanwhile vocalist Jon Osborne might be the long lost son of Jeff Perlin growling along to the rhythm section, seemingly out of control with one beat hook after another, pulling everything together. credits Check out the EP on bandcamp Mastermind 'Bad Reaction' 7" (Quality Control Records)

Together with Crime, the Nuns predated and singlehandedly helped to shape the Punk scene in San Francisco in 1976. Their demos from 1977 seemed to be lost in the mists of time forever, but now here they are, all of them unreleased. An ESSENTIAL piece in the history of vintage American Punk!!! Lost demo recordings of a very underrated band. This is raw early US Punk Rock at its best with a huge Iggy/Stooges edge aided by the wild and abrasive piano that honky tonks all along the way. Sound quality is excellent, without any overdubs or studio gimmicks. A great example of San Francisco 1976 early 1977 Punk Rock, next to CRIME and Mary Monday. Too bad, the record industry was not interested. The 1980 Posh Boy album shares a lot of songs but sounds much tamer than this. Label: Mabuhay Records

Out of stockHardcore - more than a style of music, it's a way of life. Few current bands represent that more than MINDSET, and even fewer current records more than their debut full-length, "leave no doubt". This LP is 10 vital tracks of heart, wisdom and passion. No frills, just true straight-edge hardcore. Musically, the LP captures MINDSET at their most powerful, with one foot planted in the classics like YOUTH OF TODAY, ALONE IN A CROWD, FIRST STEP, with the other rooted in creating something truly unique. Lyrically, "leave no doubt" takes an unflinching look at the world and demands that we thrive rather than simply survive. Vinyl includes a digital download card. Label: React Records

Out of stockIn the early seventies, Detroit was the musical hub of America. Everything from the chart topping sounds of Motown records to the vicious proto-punk of The Stooges was being brewed out there and it seemed like there was no end in sight. But by the early eighties, the city was both a physical and cultural wasteland due to major label buyouts of the artists as well as the crippling drug habits of some of the others. Detroit's most known musical export at the time was the vapid sounds of New Wave heart-throbs The Romantics; this wasn't good. It took a gaggle of suburban skateboarders, a grade school teacher and a census bureau clerk to wake this city up from it's slumber and start one of the first hardcore punk scenes in America. Why Be Something That You're Not chronicles the first wave of Detroit hardcore from it's origins in the late seventies to it's demise in the mid-eighties. Through a combination of oral history and extensive imagery, the book proves that even though the southern california beach towns might have created the look and style of hardcore punk, it was the Detroit scene - along with a handfull of other cities across the country - that cultivated the music's grassroots aesthetic before most cultural hot spots around the globe even knew what the music was about. "The Michigan hardcore scene was a crazy mixture of DC-style teen-thug-purists and debauched elders with a taste for the newest in high energy freedom. Tony Rettman has done a great service to Western Culture by interviewing the prime knuckleheads involved in this scene and reporting what he finds." -Byron Coley Co-Author of No Wave: New York 1976-1980 --From the Back Cover In the early seventies, Detroit was the musical hub of America. It all seemed fishy to me." This, Barry Hensler, Ian Mackaye, Dave Stimpson, Tesco Vee, and John Brannon chatting like they're at a sleepover.
