By now, it's not surprising that the dissemination of the hardcore punk movement in it's infancy seeped into the pores of nearly the entire planet. Of course, all the major cities worldwide developed burgeoning hardcore scenes that yielded the classics we know and love but there's something to be said about the less known spots on the map and their select inhabitants that were swept up in the fervor of it all, like some of those in the sleepy valley town of Roanoke tucked away in the tranquil Blue Ridge mountain region of Southwest Virginia. It was in that city, circa 1984, that four teenagers came together to form Мир or, for the non-Cyrillicly inclined, simply MNP. The band name, pronounced "Mihr" and which translates to peace, was also the group's mission statement and driving force in their brief existence. Having played a slew of gigs locally and elsewhere alongside contemporaries like CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, SCREAM, BATTALION OF SAINTS and DEATH PIGGY among others, they left as quickly as they came, disbanding in the summer of 1985 before most of the members left for college. Thankfully, the band entered the studio earlier that year before calling it a day. The tracks that made up the criminally underrated and sparsely circulated "MINDECISION" cassette are a crucial entry into the annals of early Virginia hardcore punk history, featuring twelve cuts of scorching USHC executed by small town high school kids. Remastered from the original reels by Chris Corry, each record comes in a jacket adorned with the original cover art by drummer Lawson Jaeger, featuring a 12" x 24" insert chock full of live photos, flyers and other ephemera plus liner notes by guitarist Spencer Edmunds. Χρονικό του ιταλικού οπαδικού κινήματος 1968-2020 Στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του 1960 και στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 1970, εμφανίζονται στα γήπεδα της Ιταλίας πανό με ιδιαίτερες επωνυμίες: Commandos, Fossa, Ultras ή Brigate. Πίσω από αυτές, κρύβονται ομάδες εφήβων που υποστηρίζουν ενεργά τις ομάδες τους. Αναδύεται έτσι ένας νέος τρόπος κατανόησης του ρόλου του tifoso. Οι ultras, οπαδοί των άκρων, οικειοποιούνται έναν χώρο, δημιουργούν κανόνες, διαμορφώνουν έναν ρόλο για τον εαυτό τους. Η προσωπική μουσική διαδρομή του Ντίνου Σαδίκη, ίσως και να μην διαφέρει τελικά και πολύ από αυτή των Εν Πλω. Από το συγκρότημα φάντασμα με τον έναν και μοναδικό δίσκο, στην ανά 10 περίπου χρόνια δισκογραφική παρουσία και στις συναυλίες που πολλές φορές είναι κάτι σαν secret gigs μόνο για τους μυημένους. Ηθελημένα ή όχι, το προστατευτικό περίβλημα μέσα στο οποίο τα πάντα καθορίζονται εντός των τοιχών, υπάρχει και θα υπάρχει πάντα. Άλλωστε οι μόνιμοι, από το 2001, συνοδοιπόροι του Πάνος Παπάζογλου (κιθάρες), Χρήστος Παππάς (μπάσο) και Λάζαρος Πλιάμπας (τύμπανα) φροντίζουν για αυτό. Αν ο πρώτος ομώνυμος δίσκος από τα Μωρά στη Φωτιά που κυκλοφόρησε το 1987 θεωρείται (και είναι) ένας από τους σημαντικότερους της ελληνικής ανεξάρτητης σκηνής, για εμάς, το δεύτερο album του group, οι “Θεατρίνοι” που κυκλοφόρησε το 1999, είναι ακόμα πιο σημαντικό. Για τον απλούστατο λόγο πως βγήκε μόνο του και τα έβαλε με όλους και όλα, σε μια εποχή που σε τίποτα δεν θύμιζε την μουσική άνοιξη που επικρατούσε στο ελληνικό ροκ 12 χρόνια νωρίτερα. Σε συνδυασμό βέβαια με το γεγονός πως περιείχε συνθέσεις, γεμάτες ενέργεια, λυρισμό, χωρίς κανέναν απολύτως μουσικό συμβιβασμό. 3 από αυτές σε ποίηση των Ελύτη, Καρυωτάκη, Σεφέρη. Τα Μωρά είχαν πλέον μεγαλώσει και παρουσίαζαν τον πληρέστερο (πάντα κατά τη υποκειμενική μας άποψη) δίσκο τους. Αξίζει πάντως να σημειωθεί πως αρκετές από τις συνθέσεις, πάντα σε στίχους και μουσική του Στέλιου ” Σαλβαδόρ” Παπαϊωάννου, ήταν ήδη έτοιμες και παιζόταν στα live της μπάντας, από τα τέλη της δεκαετίας του ’80. Το να βρεθεί ένας ολάνθιστης σκέψης και μουσικής πράξης συνθέτης εκτός των στενών συνόρων της πραγματικής αλλά και ηχητικής του πατρίδας, είναι κάτι που εύχεται ο κάθε ακροατής που τείνει ώτα στο ελευθεριακό και νεόκοπο, ακόμα και αν αυτό είναι ουτοπικό. Ο Μάστερ Μπαζίλ πετάει στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, στη Βρετανία, στη (Δυτική τότε) Γερμανία και στη Γαλλία, για να συναντήσει και να συνομιλήσει με τον Μάικ Μπλούμφιλντ, τον Μπράιαν Ίνο, τον Καρλ Μπάρτος των Kraftwerk, τον Κέβιν Άιερς των Soft Machine, τον Ρίτσι Μπλάκμορ και την Λόρι Άντερσον μεταξύ (πολλών) άλλων, δηλαδή με μουσικές προσωπικότητες οι οποίες διαμόρφωσαν το τοπίο της νεανικής κουλτούρας της δεκαετίας του '70 και μέχρι τις αρχές της δεκαετίας του '80. "Περνάγανε αμάξια απ' την πλατεία στα Εξάρχεια και χωνόμασταν μέσα στ' αυτοκίνητο με το κεφάλι και τους τρομάζαμε! Μας βλέπαν έτσι, με τις μοϊκάνες, σου λένε "Παναγία μου, τι 'ναι τούτοι!""... Το πανκ είναι μια νεανική μουσική υποκουλτούρα που εμφανίστηκε στη Νέα Υόρκη το 1975, κατέστη κοινωνικά ορατή με σκανδαλώδη τρόπο στο Λονδίνο το 1976 και μεταφέρθηκε στην Αθήνα το 1979. Οι πρώτοι Αθηναίοι πανκς, με την ακραία εμφάνιση και την επιθετική συμπεριφορά τους προσπάθησαν να διακωμωδήσουν τα μικροαστικά ήθη, να αμφισβητήσουν τη μεταπολιτευτική πολιτική συναίνεση, να διαταράξουν τη δημόσια ευταξία, να μολύνουν τα πατροπαράδοτα χαρακτηριστικά της ελληνικότητας, να ανατρέψουν τις αισθητικές αξίες και να ανασκευάσουν τη διάχυτη πίστη στην ανάπτυξη και τη συνεχή βελτίωση της ζωής. Κατόπιν, οι νεαροί αυτοί δημιούργησαν συγκροτήματα, ομάδες συναυλιών, δίκτυα διανομής φανζίν, δίσκων και κασετών, καταλήψεις και αναδείχθηκαν σε ενεργά μέλη της εγχώριας αντικουλτούρας και βασικός πυλώνας του ανταγωνιστικού κινήματος. Η παρούσα μελέτη, η οποία κινείται στο πλαίσιο της προφορικής ιστορίας και της κοινωνικής ανθρωπολογίας, προχωρά πέρα από τον "σημειολογικό ανταρτοπόλεμο" του πανκ και τη μικροϊστορία των μητροπολιτικών φυλών και ερευνά την ένταξη στη σκηνή πανκ της Αθήνας ως πολιτισμική δήλωση, πολιτική υπαγωγή και κοινωνική εμπειρία. Khanate’s self titled debut (2001) has all the pleasant ambiance of a plane crash site, a bleak urban waste of mangled and torn metal beams and hissed alarms. When Khanate first issued instructions to the void in 2001, the band was embraced as the next iteration of guitarist Stephen O’Malley’s tube-cracking forays into amplifier variance; a fascinating further step of vocalist Alan Dubin and low-frequency shifter James Plotkin’s space charts; and a warning for the crawling-pace hammers of Tim Wyskida’s drums. But Khanate was not preaching of coming doom or offering emotional catharsis. The band was totally post-dread. The worst had already happened, and would continue to happen, over and over. Οι ΕΝΑΝΤΙΑ αποτελούνται από μέλη με πολύ μεγάλη ιστορία στο ελληνικό punk, καθώς οι Γιάννης S. (φωνή), Κώστας Mp. (κιθάρα), Κώστας A. (μπάσο) και Κώστας Μαυρ.(ντραμς) έχουν παίξει ζωντανά αμέτρητα live σε ολόκληρη την Ελλάδα σαν ΑΝΤΙΔΡΑΣΗ από το 1986 έως το 1999 και έχουν ηχογραφήσει δίσκους αναφοράς για το συγκεκριμένο ιδίωμα όπως τα «Αίμα στους δρόμους» (7’’ single / 1989), «Κατάσταση κινδύνου» (LP / 1990), «Ενάντια» (LP / 1991). Η παρέα των ΕΝΑΝΤΙΑ μας συστήθηκε στις αρχές του 2005 με το πρώτο demo τους «Για μια στιγμή / Διπρόσωπε». Στην πορεία προστέθηκαν ακόμη ο Σταύρος Δ. (ντραμς – ιδρυτικό μέλος των ΑΝΤΙΔΡΑΣΗ) και ο Γιώργος Geo Beo. Μετά από πολλά χρόνια αναμονής, το πρώτο album της μπάντας «Γιατί πολύ αφήσαμε τα ποντίκια να χορεύουν..» είναι επιτέλους έτοιμο. Κυκλοφορεί σε 500 αριθμημένα αντίτυπα βινυλίου από την LABYRINTH OF THOUGHTS records. Με υλικό που γράφτηκε από το μακρινό 1986 όπως το «Άγια Ανθρωπάκια» που παιζόταν τότε σε όλες τις πρόβες τους, μέχρι το 2022 και το ‘Πώς Γίνεται;’ που αναφέρεται σε έναν άλλον έναν Βρώμικο Πόλεμο που περνάει σαν ταινία μπροστά από τα μάτια μας! H μπάντα λοιπόν συνεχίζει από εκεί που μας άφησε, μιας και όπως μας λένε στο «1985» (ένα τραγούδι που ενώνει το τότε με το τώρα) “…χρόνια που είναι τόσο μακρινά, μοιάζουν τόσο ίδια, τόσο κοντινά…” Η ώρα επιτέλους έφτασε!! A re-release of the band's two sole LP albums plus bonus tracks and new artwork. Tracks 1 to 6 and 8 to 12 are the 1st album "Γενιά Του Χάους" (1986). Tracks 13 to 18 and 21 to 25 are the 2nd album "Ρέκβιεμ" (1989). Track 7: is a previously unreleased recording from 1983. Track 19: is a previously unreleased version of 25. Track 20: is previously unreleased. Οι Γενιά του Χάους, γνωστοί και ως ΓΤΧ, ήταν ελληνική πανκ μπάντα που δημιουργήθηκε το 1982 από τους Νίκο Βοσδογάννη (κιθάρα, φωνή και στίχους), τον ξάδερφο του Νίκο Βοσδογάννη (μπάσσο) και τον Θοδωρή Ηλιακόπουλο (ντραμς). Το πρώτο όνομα της μπάντας ήταν "Αντικουλτούρα". Το 1983, ο κιθαρίστας Βοσδογιάννης αποχώρησε και αντικαταστάθηκε από τον Κώστα Χατζόπουλο. Έπειτα, μέλος της μπάντας έγινε ο Άρης Λαμπρίδης (φωνή). Η μπάντα μετονομάστηκε σε "Chaos Generation" και το '84 σε "Γενιά Του Χάους". Αν και κάποιοι θέλουν τους Γενιά Του Χάους με τους Αδιέξοδο να έχουν αντιπαλότητα, στην πραγματικότητα τα δυο συγκροτήματα είχαν πολύ στενές σχέσεις, καθώς παίζανε σε κοινά στέκια και συναυλίες στην Αθήνα και την επαρχία. Το γκρουπ διαλύθηκε το 1989. Μέχρι τότε, είχαν κάνει αρκετές αλλαγές και είχαν περάσει αρκετά άτομα από το συγκρότημα (οι Δημήτρης Παππάς κιθάρα και φωνητικά, Άκης Αμπραζής μπάσο και φωνή, Γιώργος Δρακόπουλος πλήκτρα, Αλέξης Αλιφέρης μπάσο και πλήκτρα). Relapse Records, in a collaboration with Cherry Nishida, are proud to present AGONY憎悪REMAINS, a collection unearthing all of the material from Nishida's legendary Japanese hardcore band ZOUO, as well as 4 死 Death, a brand new album from Nishida's current outfit, S∴h∵i. Originally formed by friends of a local skateboard crew in the early 80's, ZOUO quickly became torchbearers for Japanese hardcore punk at the time. The band's music was a direct reflection of their collective frustrations and takes on their culture; the lyrics detailed the bands hatred for "societal hypocrisies and existing religions." ZOUO's debut The Final Agony 7" remains a landmark release to this day - tracks such as "Sons of Satan" and "Making Love with Devil" showcase some of the most raw and evil punk to ever emerge from the underground. Following ZOUO's releases, mastermind Cherry Nishida delved deeper into Japanese hardcore, forming DANSE MACABRE - a band solely dedicated on honing into the psychology of a serial killer. Nishida now returns with S∴h∵i (Struggling Harsh Immortals). Wishing to break from the genre's confines. S∴h∵i's new discordant take on rock, metal, and punk, infuses industrial elements and noise with a stark audio/visual presentation. An evolution of his prior material, S∴h∵i is directly correlated to Nishida's views on the human condition and the human minds he finds to be "unconsciously derived and mutated." Legendary English underground band Zounds returns with their first new recording in nearly 30 years! Growing out of the squatter communities of London in the early 80's, Zounds quickly became a key figure in the burgeoning anarcho-punk/DIY scene. Notoriously reclusive singer/songwriter Steve Lake has crafted ten new songs for The Redemption of Zounds; all retain the hallmarks of the band's classic template with incisive lyrics, sharp guitars, satirical overtones, emotional terror and great, memorable tunes. Lake notes, "it is as bewildering, absurd, tragic and joyful as it ever was." In his book History of Rough Trade, Rob Young described Zounds music as, "a distinctively paranoid and claustrophobic sonic crush that avoided formulaic protest song." The second release on Sealed Records is a 14 Track round up of the five singles by Zounds. The debut single from 1980 Can't Cheat Karma was released on Crass Records and 39 Years later still stands as one of the finest singles both politically and musically. For the next three singles Zounds released them on Rough Trade Records, along with their debut album The Curse of Zounds. 1981's Demystification was a tense and stark masterpiece. It was followed by the haunting Mikey Dread-produced Dancing and then the more straight up pop of More Trouble Coming Everyday. The final single of Zounds Mark 1 was La Vacht Qui Rit released on Belgium label Not So Brave in 1983 and was originally supposed to be a split single with The Mob but ended up with two scratchy studio tracks and two rough and raw live tracks recorded in Holland in 1982. While Zorn’s theatrical, (literally) scorching live shows are the stuff of legend, it would be a grave mistake to think the chaos they summon is all about the flaming swords, makeup, and leather corsets. Like Alice Cooper and David Bowie before them, Zorn knows you gotta have the songs to back up the image. Zorn’s metal-punk draws on death rock melody, intricate thrash riffing, and the bulldozing power of Discharge-inspired hardcore bands, but the songs are as infectious as they are intense. As with early Metallica, tracks like “Already Dead” and “Delco Devil Mosh” are built on memorable melodies that, in another time and place, might have formed the backbone of a killer glam rock single. Zero Zero: a sadly unlamented 1990s anthology comic series published by Fantagraphics, which published some of the most batshit underground cartoonists of the time, as well as some of the smartest satirists and grossest gross-out artists. It was briefly incredible; it stopped before it ran out of steam; it was punk as fuck. Zero Zeroes: just one of those ungoogleable band names, scuppered a tad by the existence of Californian ‘70s punkas The Zeroes. But this German band are definitely their own beast - OK, there are touches of San Diego legend John Reis in their DNA (the garage-centric power chords are pure Rocket From The Crypt; the relentless drive of the guitars calls to mind the wild focus of Hot Snakes), but they’re here to make a racket their own way, and it’s scintillating. So why mention the comic? Well, aside from the similarity in the names, there’s something about this gleefully menacing racket that just feels like it draws from the same well; equal parts smart, serious, cartoonish, and drawn to a devilish sense of reckless abandon that you’ll only find if you really know where to look for it. Whether making fist-clenching punk anthems from unsolved murder cases (as they do on the rollicking ‘Tamam Shud’) or simply slapping you in the face with killer riffage and even better tunes (‘Mouth Full Of Snakes’, ‘Dark Thoughts’... actually pretty much every cut here), they’re here to make you surrender to that sweet sweet rock’n’roll. Seattle punk legends ZEKE return with the first new recordings in over 4 years. "Ride Hard Ride Free" contains two tracks laced with ZEKE's signature mix of turbo-charged thrash-punk and Motörhead possessed rock n' roll and provides the first taste of ZEKE's new album, which will be released later this year. In 2022, ZEKE was unexpectedly reborn with founding members Blind Marky Felchtone (vox/guitar) and Donny Paycheck (drums) returning to the drum kit after 18 years. They went into the studio with Jason Freeman (bass) and Jeff Hiatt (guitar), they were with ZEKE before and got back in, to record a new album. The first single "Ride Hard Ride Free" is everything you've come to expect - or want to hear from ZEKE. A full-on thrasher celebrating speed in more ways than one, "Ride Hard Ride Free" has a very sharp style, with the band takes cues from old Motörhead rlffs, then fusing it with hardcore punk roughage. A modern ZEKE classic. They tie in here stylistically with "Death Alley". ZBOMBARDOWA LALECZKA, a band from Poznań,active in the years 1983-1986 and emerged from the earlier formations of MAŁY BRZYDAL and KBW. It was one of the few groups operating in Poland whose character clearly indicated inspiration from British peace-punk. Echoes of Poison Girls, Crass or Flux Of Pink Indians penetrated their own view of music and message. Another characteristic element that distinguished the band was its composition, which differed from the standard of the time. In the first half of the 1980s, there were only a few punk or post-punk bands with women in the line-up (including FORNIT, ATAK, TILT, BIALE WULKANY, BIKINI, KONTROLA W., DZIECI KAPITAN KLOSS and the aforementioned KBW). For many people, the performances of ZOMBARDOWANA LALECZKA with the vocalist Gertruda were the first contact with strong female vocals in a native punk band The group's message was no less important than the music. It was a direct protest against war, militarism and violence. As reality shows, today, unfortunately, it will again sound exceptionally up-to-date and shocking. The band's poignant lyrics and music were complemented by graphic accents created by them - collages, posters or the band's fanzine distributed at concerts. Unfortunately, despite the huge potential, the band never managed to enter the studio. They did not live to see any record or cassette release, and the only trace they left behind was the cassette compilation "Róbrege '85", which included the song "Children die first". The same number, registered during the performance in Jarocin '85, was used in Piotr Łazarkiewicz's film "Wave". Both festivals were certainly the most important events in the history of the band, and thanks to them, the memory of the group had the opportunity to survive despite the lack of releases. A photo session for one of the first issues of the "Wprost" magazine from 1983 is also worth noting. In addition to the aforementioned cassette compilation and recording in the legendary film "Wave", poor quality concert recordings were also circulating among the fans. This release double fills an important gap in the history of punk in the 80s. The band Zbombardowana Laleczka not only debuts on the album, but also after 37 years, their full material will sound in good quality, previously unavailable, for the first time. Recordings recorded during a performance on the big stage (for which the band qualified without sending an application cassette!) are 95% recordings from the console, and with the transfer from the original reel-to-reel tape and mastering in the invaluable Studio As One, the whole thing sounds great and we are sure,that this disc will give the band, their rightful place in the history of the Eastern Bloc punk movement. Due to the historical value, we decided to include the band's full performance on the album, also with the song interrupted by the organizers due to fights in front of the stage. After about an hour's break, the band managed to present the entire programme. Traditionally, like the rest of the series of punk recordings from the festival in Jarocin presented by Warsaw Pact Records/Archiwum Trasa W-Z, the album is released with a gatefold cover and this time with two additional booklets: one with the history of the band, photos, collages and graphics and the other with a faithful reproduction of a zine released by the band in the 1980s. Comes with a 24-page booklet with information about the band and a reproduction of a zine released by Zbombardowana Laleczka in 1985. (Warsaw Pact Records)
