  • Dopesick is the third studio album by American sludge metal band Eyehategod, released on April 2, 1996. After the release of Take as Needed for Pain, Eyehategod's previous album, the band recorded several demos, which were released on various 7" records and splits on various labels, before finally settling down in the fall of 1995 to record a full-length record, Dopesick. The album featured Billy Anderson and Pepper Keenan as producer and co-producer respectively and new bassist Vince LeBlanc. It was recorded at Side One Studios in New Orleans so Mike Williams had to travel often between there and Clinton Hill, Brooklyn in New York City, where he was living at the time. The recording sessions were infamously chaotic, and involved the studio owner reportedly calling Century Media to ask if the band was mentally unstable, and threatening to kick them out. This particular incident occurred after Mike Williams had attempted to record the sound of smashing glass for the introduction to the album, by smashing a bottle on the floor of the studio. In the process, he slashed open his hand and bled all over the studio floor; this recording did make it to the record as the introduction to the first track, "My Name Is God (I Hate You)." One of the band members then apparently smeared the words "Hell" and "Death to Pigs" in Williams' blood. The album's recording finished during the winter of 1995. After completion, Brian Patton and Joey LaCaze flew out to San Francisco to mix the album at Hyde Street Studio with Billy Anderson, who would also be the album's engineer. The album was finally released on March 25, 1996. Thanks to the LP, the band was able to embark on a United States tour in the spring of 1997, supporting White Zombie and Pantera, bringing their music to a far wider audience. The album opens with Mike Williams' screams and the sound of a broken bottle. It is somewhat diverse musically, but not in terms of mood. "Dixie Whiskey" has a main riff that sounds, reportedly, like a swamp-bred Black Sabbath.[citation needed] "Dogs Holy Life" and "Non Conductive Negative Reasoning" both feature inventive and ear-grabbing guitar parts before ending abruptly, according to William York of Allmusic. Songs such as "Peace Thru War (Thru Peace and War)" and "Lack of Almost Everything" alternate up-tempo hardcore punk sections with slowed-down grooves.[citation needed] Dopesick sounds slightly different from the band's previous records because it was produced to sound denser and heavier; with the drums more up front in the mix and the guitars sounding especially thick. Chronicles of Chaos' Gino Filicetti went so far as to describe Michael Williams' vocals as "puke-ridden" in a 1996 review of the album for the webzine. In 2009, the album was chosen as the number 2 sludge record by Terrorizer, which commented that "[v]icious hardcore punk, crushing metallic comedowns and wave upon merciless wave of feedback serve as both a harrowing soundtrack to their ruined lives and a doomed lovesong to the spirit of the South.". Licensed by Century Media, Throne Records presents the most thorough vinyl issue this Sludgecore classic has ever accomplished.

  • Grief was founded in 1991 by Disrupt guitarist Terry Savastano and Unleashed Anger drummer Pete Donovan. Randy Odierno (who later switched to bass and later again left to join Bane of Existence) and Jeff Hayward joined shortly thereafter. They broke up in 2001 mainly due to drummer problems - something that was an ongoing problem for the band from the start. They also cited what they called a "hostile environment for doom metal bands". They reunited briefly in July 2005 to play a cluster of reunion shows. The band had several 7"s including one with Dystopia and Corrupted each. A compilation album called Turbulent Times appeared in 2002 through Southern Lord. The group reunited for one show at the first annual New England Grind And Doom Fest on July 17, 2005 at The Middle East Cafe in Cambridge, MA. They were so excited by the response to this show that they began booking others, and they toured intermittently throughout 2005 and 2006. In 2005, the band played shows through in venues including The Ace of Clubs and The Knitting Factory in New York, The Khyber in Philadelphia, O'Brien's in Allston/Brighton, MA, The Living Room in Providence, RI, and Cherry St. Station in CT. In 2006 Southern Lord Records released a full-length live album called Alive which featured their performance at the Middle East in November 2005. The album features artwork by Eric C. Harrison, who did much of the band's painted cover artwork. Grief's final appearance was at Emissions from the Monolith 8, a sludge/doom festival that took place in Ohio, May 2006. The Hartford Advocate wrote the following about their December 3, 2005 date at Cherry St. Station in CT: Since 1991, these Massholes have been writing songs about a distinctly New England flavor of depression and isolation. Jeff Hayward's throat-shredding vocals often seem more hardcore than metal; indeed, almost 15 years later, it's possible to see Grief as one of a handful of seminal NE bands who initiated the merger between hardcore and metal. However, unlike some of those bands, Grief still sounds both relevant and entertaining. The band re-formed in 2008 and toured the United States and Europe, but they soon disbanded again in March 2009. In 2012, Savastano formed the idea of reuniting Grief as Come to Grief, after the seminal 1994 album. Their name was changed in 2014 and followed by a headlining appearance in Oakland, California's Deadfest 2015. Members of the band have gone on to play in many other bands since the dissolution of Grief including Consume, Deathraid, Disrupt, State of Fear, Unleashed Anger, Goff, Demonic Death Preachers, Effects of Alcohol, Noosebomb, Abhorred, Z28, and Chicken Chest and the Bird Boys. They did, however, suggest the band Fear as a replacement. somewhat paradoxically, Fear, with all its sound, fury, and decidedly politically incorrect ideas, was somehow acceptable. make no mistake, The Record is aggressive, offensive, and loud - it is the sound of a kid flipping the bird. and there is a barreling, garage-like catchiness to anthems such as 'I Love Living in the City.' the difference between Fear and bands like Black Flag is a subtle but crucial one: Fear does not cross the line into aural violence. perhaps it is the tongue-in-cheek quality to Lee Ving's rants about minority groups in 'Let's Have a War.' ving may be giving everyone within earshot the finger but he's doing it from a moving car." The 1988 crustcore classic debut from Deviated Instinct. Norwich?s primo kings of stench-headed mayhem, Deviated Instinct, were a main force in the UK scene, starting with the classic Welcome to the Orgy EP, which was among Peaceville?s earliest releases. The band toured extensively with acts such as Napalm Death, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Amebix among others in the years to follow before disbanding in 1994. Deviated Instinct were favourites of the legendary John Peel and the band recorded two sessions with him in the early 1990s. Rock n Roll Conformity was the band?s debut full length album - originally released in 1988 - and demonstrated a ferocity matching any of their peers. The album was recorded at Lion Studios and produced by Peaceville founder Paul ?Hammy? Halmshaw. 2019 vinyl edition with original sleeve art and remastered audio. (Peaceville Records)
  • Flailing hardcore punk from Italy filled with lightning fast riffing, locomotive propulsion, all topped with tormented and blown out Nerorgasm(o)-ic vocals. Lying somewhere between a notion of what Wretched would have been trying to do on their second LP and what the lost secretly groove-laden EPs of early 80s Japan a la Bitousha were able to pull together, Psico Galera have made a very new splatter on an old canvas. Over the top guitar leads, slippery tempo shifts, and hints of melody amongst the tuneless torment allow this to hang together as a singular blast of modern punk perfection. (Static Age Musik)
  • The prolific Svaveldioxid have recorded a new album of 10 tracks which follows up their recent split EP with Skeleton released late last year. If you like Swedish crust from the 80s (early Totalitär, Anti-Cimex, Crude SS, etc.) right on through to the 90s (Skitsystem, Wolfpack, etc.) Svaveldioxid are the band for you. With bruising beats, straightforward Cimex / Totalitär-style riffs, and crunchy, metallic production, they are the best of both worlds. (Phobia Records)
  • Finally the long overdue repress of a modern classic! Originally released by D-Takt & RaPunk. A fantastic unique mixture of the ultra-distorted sound of Confuse and the best of Disclose, all spiced with a note of Swedish Hardcore. An instant classic, originally from 2010, now hard to get, but dis is over for now. A D-Takt Dis-Noize opera featuring (ex)members of Martyrdöd, Warvictims, Discover, Glöm Da, Absurd SS, and many more. Fokking dope, fokking loud, fokking best. (Burning Anger/Rawmantic Disasters)
  • SPERMA | same title | MLP

    20.00 incl. tax
Brilliant archival reissue of late 70s Zuri-punk s/t 12" ep by SPERMA. Originally released in 1979 on Another Swiss Label, the same genius which brought us so many of Switzerland’s early punk releases, this reissue is like a magnifying glass overtop of the moments in Switzerland (and around the world) where punk was truly breaking ground internationally. This is dripping in delectable ineptitude all the way from the broken English ‘I hope this works’ melody of “No More Love” to the textbook contempt for mainstream radio on ‘Radio.’ All three tracks are overloaded with happy flare ups of singalong melody mixed with mindless and perfectly undeveloped rock and roll aggression. The light touch of the clean guitars being boiled in pummelling drums and loud bass feels like a clue to what the recording session might have been like, battling with an engineer inexperienced in the pneumatics of punk and insisting on quieter and quieter guitars to prevent too much sound bleed, or just an old amplifier pushed to its limits. Regardless, the magic is there and the songs are there. This new issue comes with a beautiful printed 20 page booklet with unseen photos, flyers, and moments otherwise lost in time. Official repress of this classic from 1984! After "Mad Punx And English Dogs" and "Invasion Of The Porky Men" the third vinyl release and second EP of the English Dogs is much more metallic. The typical British punk sound is supported by purposefully applied guitar solos and whipped forward by a somewhat overdriven, reverberating vocals, by the massive drum fire from the ambush these 4 songs form a unit that rolls you down. The English Dogs have, to my mind, created a very individual, new sound with this EP, which is even more raw than that of some of their peers. This is dirty metallic HC punk! Every song is a hit, the songs have been remastered, the record comes with the original artwork and A2 poster. (Bomb All Records)
  • In 1997 the hardcore scene was in dire need of a sense of humor. Four Vegan Straightedge dudes from Washington, D.C. (where it all began) stepped up to the challenge. Good Clean Fun was formed. They set out on a three-year non-stop tour to spread positivism to the whole planet as only hardcore band can do. Two 7”s and two full-lengths later and shows in 35 countries, from Austria to Australia, from New England to England, from the beaches of Hawaii to the fjords of Norway (and so on) the message was delivered. In 2002, the band returned home and released a Discography CD on Equal Vision Records. In 2004 the band stayed true to its word and did a reunion […] Last Exit Music proudly presents: The GCF compilation "Crouching Tiger, Moshing Panda" for the first time on vinyl!
