Experience the punishing sonic origins of a punk icon. Collected here for the first time, and skillfully remastered from original board tapes, demos, and session masters, this collection is an authoritative chronicling of the wellspring and maturation of Grant Hart, Greg Norton and Bob Mould - three Minneapolis teenagers who'd go on to become the most heralded trio of the American punk underground. Follow the Hüskers to their earliest gigs in 1979, through extensive road dog touring, and to the start of their partnership with West Coast tastemaker SST in 1983. This primitive stage in the fabled career of Hüsker Dü is presented as a deluxe box set and packaged with a hardbound book crammed full of never before seen photos, flyers, and a sprawling essay with participation from the band. Spread across four LPs or three CDs, 47 of the 69 songs compiled here are previously unissued. Also included are Statues/Amusement, In A Free Land, Everything Falls Apart, and an alternate recording of the Land Speed Record set. The Replacements’ 1981 Twin/Tone Records debut, SORRY MA, FORGOT TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH, heralded the Minneapolis-based band’s competing tendencies toward indelible genius and reckless abandon. The ’Mats’ legendary founding line-up – lead singer/songwriter and guitarist Paul Westerberg, drummer Chris Mars, and brothers Bob and Tommy Stinson (lead guitar and bass respectively) – unleashed a thrilling, dynamic sound on the album with now-classic songs like “Takin’ A Ride,” “Shiftless When Idle,” and “Customer.” We're celebrating the 40th anniversary of SORRY MA, FORGOT TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH this fall with a 4CD/1LP set that offers a remarkable document of The Replacements’ formative years. Of the set’s 100 tracks, 67 have never been released before, including the first demos the band recorded in early 1980, as well as a professionally captured concert from January 1981. Along with a newly remastered version of the original album, it also uncovers many unreleased rough mixes, alternate takes, and demos from the band’s first 18 months together. The LP included in the set, titled Deliberate Noise, presents an alternate version of the original album using these previously unreleased tracks. SORRY MA, FORGOT TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH (DELUXE EDITION) is presented in a 12 x 12 hardcover book loaded with dozens of rarely seen photos. The set was produced by Twin/Tone Records co-founder Peter Jesperson, Rhino’s Jason Jones, and Replacements’ biographer Bob Mehr, who received a Grammy for Best Album Notes for his work on the band’s acclaimed 2019 boxed set Dead Man’s Pop. Mehr again penned the detailed liners that accompany this set, which features new interviews with The Replacements. Former Replacements manager Jesperson also provides a remembrance of the Sorry Ma era. The boxed set opens with a remastered version of the original album that’s been expanded with the non-album B-side, “If Only You Were Lonely.” From there, a second disc, titled Raised in the City, delves into the group’s very first recordings (“Try Me,” “She’s Firm,” “Lookin For Ya”), as well as studio demos for album tracks (including “Shutup” and “I Hate Music”), outtakes (“Shape Up,” and “Get On The Stick,” among them) and rare basement recordings (“Lie About Your Age,” “Johnny Fast”). A handful of these appeared on Rhino’s 2008 reissue of Sorry Ma, but more than a dozen included on the new set have never been released. Four outtakes on the collection’s third disc, Tape’s Rolling, debuted on the same 2008 reissue, but here they’re joined by more than two dozen unreleased recordings. Highlights include electrifying alternate versions of “Johnny’s Gonna Die” and “Love You Till Friday,” alternate mixes for “Rattlesnake” and “More Cigarettes,” plus Westerberg’s home demos of “You’re Pretty When You’re Rude” and “If Only You Were Lonely.” The Deluxe Edition ends on a high note with the earliest professional live recording of The Replacements. The previously unreleased concert, dubbed Unsuitable for Airplay, was captured by Twin/Tone’s mobile unit on January 23, 1981, at the 7th St Entry in Minneapolis, MN. A portion of the show was later broadcast on the local community radio station, KFAI. The concert took place as the band was in the midst of work on Sorry Ma. The show’s setlist is packed with evolving versions of songs that would appear on their debut album (“Hangin Downtown,” “Somethin to Dü,” “Rattlesnake”), along with other early numbers that were never released (“Mistake,” “Excuse Me”), plus choice covers of The Heartbreakers’ “I Wanna Be Loved,” Slade’s “My Town,” The Kinks’ “All Day and All of the Night,” and Dave Edmunds’ “Trouble Boys,” among others. Available on October 22nd, all Rhino.com pre-orders come with an exclusive flyer reproduction from their show at the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis, MN, in 1981. (Rhino)

Solid black vinyl ltd to 500 copies. Double LP + CD + DVD + book + extra casewrapped box. A work of love and dedication, the result of an incredible journey from the F.O.A.D. headquarters to a remote country-town in the middle of the Hokkaidō island, northern Japan, to meet the band members and put together the most exhaustive collection of all their available recordings, spanning from 1985 to 1987. Here you get the ultra-complete discography of HUMAN GAS, including a lot of unreleased material… Musically, this is some of the rawest and most violent Hardcore ever spawned from the darkest lairs of the ’80s Japanese underground. Tracks from the split 7″ with Stali Nism (1985), “Noice and Hardcore” 1st Demo (1986), “Explosives” 2nd Demo (1986), tracks from “Street Punk in Obihiro” Omnibus tape (1986), “Lack luster” 3rd Demo + extra studio songs (1987), unreleased studio jam session with members of Human Gas + Stali Nism + Middle Class (1987). Plus there’s an extra CD with a soundboard live take from 1986 that sounds killer, assorted live recordings 1986-1987 and an instrumental version of their cult Demo “Explosives“. And to complete the massacre, you’ll also find a DVD with two complete live sets (their only gig in Sapporo, “Bessie Hall“, 1987 and one in Obihiro’s “Rocking Hall“, 1987) showing these raging maniacs in action. 79 TRACKS!! All this mastered from 1st generation sources provided by the band, transferred and restored with total care and attention to detail at Toxic Basement Studio. Trifold jacket housed in a casewrapped outer boxset, 24 page full colored booklet with loads of rare photos, flyers, memorabilia and some brief liner notes put together talking with the band members. Named after a Kuro song, Human Gas were the most destructive and iconic Northern Japan’s answer to the noisy and violent Noise/Punk scene that was growing in the opposite side of the country with bands like Gai, Confuse and Kuro themselves! Add the fact that their songs were more structured, solid and as the title of this anthology suggests: violent. The Hokkaidō area is definitely one of the most fascinating and mysterious when it comes to early pioneers of the Japanese Hardcore panorama… L.S.D., 畜生, Slang, Tranquillizer, Deef, , F.U.P., Gaizin, Napalm, Noise-Decay and many more were all based there. Human Gas still stands as one of the most respected names for their genuine anger and the highly original and influential musical approach. (F.O.A.D. Records)

A stunning collection of the most iconic photographs ever taken of Black Flag, along with never-before-seen shots and a foreword by Chuck Dukowski. 256 jam-packed pages, over 300 photographs, and over 70% of the photos have never been seen. “Lively, lavishly assembled collection of Black Flag photos . . . Fury is palpable throughout the book–even rehearsals look like barnburners.” –Los Angeles Times What I See: The Black Flag Photographs of Glen E. Friedman is an incredible compilation of all of Friedman’s most iconic and recognizable images (from 1980 to 1983), of this seminal American punk band, as well as over one hundred never-before-seen photos made during those phenomenal peak years in the group’s history. The book includes a foreword by Chuck Dukowski, a cofounder and bass player of Black Flag. Friedman’s own introduction to the book takes readers through his journey with the group, from the very first time he heard their music, to his perspectives on the music of the era, to the how, why, and what Black Flag were doing at the time. His words provide additional context to the imagery, explaining what drove him to create his art alongside the band. From the streets around Black Flag’s single-room home base/office, rehearsing for their first album, handing out flyers, wheat-pasting posters, driving for hours to a show and returning the same night, house parties, clubs, to the big stage and the beach, Glen E. Friedman was there with his heart, soul, and most importantly his camera. In What I See, he shares with us and inspires us with these images that were made over an incredibly volatile four-year time span. • First-ever vinyl issue of this killer comp from 94 (Cherry Red) Side A/B oxblood, Side C/D milky clear. Comes with 18x24 folded poster. Spanning 4 sides of vinyl you'll hear one of the finest deathrock/goth/new wave bands of all time with songs from EPs/12"s/demos from 1983-1985. It's a release not to miss. Formed in Keighley, West Yorkshire, during the Post Punk of early 1980’s out of the band ‘The Elements”, took their name from the title of the song “Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family” from the 1974 David Bowie album, Diamond Dogs. Something unique was brewing up a dark and broody storm in West Yorkshire at the time with bands like The Sisters Of Mercy, The March Violets, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Southern Death Cult (later became The Cult) forming the basis of what became the soundtracks to the Goth Subculture. Skeletal Family soon gained popularity in the UK Independent Charts and furiously gigged the length and breadth of the UK and Europe, recorded tracks for the John Peels Sessions, supported The Sisters of Mercy during their 1984 Black October tour, released 2 studio albums ‘Burning Oil’ (1984) and ‘Futile Combat’ (1985) of which saw the release of Skeletal Family’s most successful single ‘Promised Land’ on Red Rhino record label. Anne-Marie left Skeletal Family in 1985 to form Ghost Dance with Gary Marx, former guitarist of The Sisters Of Mercy. (Graveface Records ‎– GRAVE158, NeverNotGoth ‎– GOTH006)

Legendary Tacoma, Washington mathcore/hardcore/metal band Botch’s second and final full-length album We Are the Romans was originally released in 1999 to critical acclaim, eventually becoming one of the most ground-breaking and influential albums during a pivotal shift in heavy music. The special re-issue of their seminal album includes new song “One Twenty Two”, the first new music Botch (bassist Brian Cook, guitarist Dave Knudson, drummer Tim Latona and vocalist Dave Verellen) have written together in over 20 years. • "The Land of Fire and Ice" has long been known for immense natural beauty, ancient folklore, hakarl, aluminum and hairy little horses. What you may not know is that punks were also there from the very start of the show. One of the most important bands to emerge from the thriving Reykjavík scene was Vonbrigði. Though they draw influence from UK and European post-punk and American hardcore, have no doubts Vonbrigði were 100% their own unique thing. They didn't receive a ton of international attention at the time and sort of faded into history but not without releasing a handful of songs, including a blistering hardcore track on the Rokk Í Reykjavík soundtrack compilation and an incredible EP on the fledgling Gramm label owned by Ásmundur Jónsson and Einar Örn (of Purrkur Pillnikk, Kukl and, more notably, Sugarcubes fame). All of the aforementioned songs are included here along with the rest of the previously (and unbelievably, I mean how is material this amazing not released immediately after recording it? Crazy!) unreleased '82/'83 sessions. 71 minutes of sweat and grit. Who needs volcanoes when you have Vonbrigði's fire? • “The following story might be bullshit (drug use and memory enhancements) Years ago I was sitting at home staring into the middle distance and the phone on the wall rang (that should denote how long ago this was). On the other end was the booker from The Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, who had never called me before. She was excited about the show they had that night and was calling people to invite them. Apparently the night before a band called Laddio Bolocko had played and were so mesmerizing, so strong that they had offered them the next night, which was open. I was intrigued as no band had ever warranted this invite previously to my knowledge. This was new and exciting territory. I had my ass & ears handed to me that evening. Scorching, pummeling, deep waters ran over me as I stood, beer in hand, mouth open. My memory may be embellishing but I remember a sax as big as me, drums that were physically hanging on by a thread, and twin electric strings that reeled sinister sprites over my head in outwardly circular patterns. Aggressive, far out fractals burned in my brain. I had never seen anything like this band, and never have again. That’s why it’s so shocking to wait around all these years for someone to pick up the thread and re-release these 3 perfect recordings on LP for the first time…and still be waiting. So, I’m happy to announce, Castle Face is here with a 3xLP remedy. We’ve been working with all the original members of Laddio Bolocko and sifting through to put together this concise LP box set of what is arguably their strongest home studio recorded material. Included here (for the first time on wax) are “Strange Warmings of Laddio Bolocko”, “In Real Time” and “As If By Remote” Includes former members of Dazzling Killmen, Panicsville, the Psychic Paramount, and Mars Volta. For fans of Can, This Heat, The Residents, improvisation (really they are hard to compare, they are so singular in sound)” - John Dwyer Chrome Edition; cardboard box with embossed silver lettering. 30th Anniversary Double LP. Black Vinyl housed in gatefold sleeve. Includes an exclusive fold out poster, individually foil-stamp numbered on back of gatefold. Tracks D1-D4 are bonus tracks that did not appear on the original album. In 1992, Biohazard signed with Roadrunner Records and released Urban Discipline, which gave the band national and worldwide attention in both the heavy metal and hardcore communities. The video for the song "Punishment" became the most played video in the history of MTV's Headbanger's Ball, and the album sold over one million copies. The band also began opening for larger acts such as Pantera, Suicidal Tendencies, House of Pain, Fishbone, and The Cro-Mags. In 1993, the hardcore rap group Onyx brought on Billy Graziadei for an alternate "Bionyx" version of their hit single "Slam" with Biohazard as their backup band. This led to a collaboration on the title track of the Judgment Night soundtrack. The soundtrack would go on to sell over two million copies in the United States. Months later, the band left Roadrunner Records and signed with Warner Bros. Records Inc. who released their third studio LP, State of the World Address. The album was produced by Ed Stasium in Los Angeles and contained the single "How It Is" featuring Sen Dog of Cypress Hill, for which a video was also shot. During their 1994 tour, the band made an appearance on the second stage at the Monsters of Rock festival held at Castle Donington. State of the World Address went on to sell over one million copies, and Rolling Stone magazine selected the Biohazard logo as the best logo of the year. This was the last Biohazard album with Bobby Hambel, who left due to differences with the rest of the band. The band recorded their fourth studio album, Mata Leao, as a three piece in 1996. It was produced with the help of Dave Jerden. For the 1996-97 Mata Leao Tour, former Helmet guitarist Rob Echeverria joined the band. The band also played on the Ozzfest mainstage alongside Ozzy Osbourne, Slayer, Danzig, Fear Factory, and Sepultura. While touring Europe in support of the Mata Leao album, the band recorded their Hamburg, Germany, show for their first live album, No Holds Barred (Live in Europe), which was released in 1997 through their former label, Roadrunner Records. When drummer Don Bolles was sacked from LA punk band the Germs he was already a member of Vox Pop, girlfriend Mary was quickly becoming 'Dinah Cancer' and their horror-punk band 45 Grave was in its infant stages. Around the same time bands like the A-Sexuals, the Decadent and Speed Queens would soon become Christian Death and Super Heroines. Add to this the early incarnations of Kommunity FK, Nervous Gender and Voodoo Church, plus Castration Squad, Aphotic Culture and Die Schlaflosen, along with Radio Werewolf, Ex VoTo, Screams for Tina and a host of others... Iron Maiden's 17th studio album Senjutsu comes out on September 3. Rumour was that the London lifers were working on the long-awaited follow-up to The Book Of Souls during lockdown, but it turns out they've been sat on it since 2019! And now, finally, it's almost time to hear one of the most anticipated metal releases of 2021. Senjutsu is a Japanese term that loosely translates as "tactics and strategy," but can also refer to skill, technique, trick, resources and — most interestingly — magic. The 10 tracks on Senjutsu clock in at just under 82 minutes, about 10 minutes shorter than their previous album, The Book Of Souls. It's their second-ever double album. Says frontman Bruce Dickinson, ?"We're all really excited about this album. We recorded it back in early 2019 during a break in the Legacy tour so we could maximise our touring yet still have a long set-up period before release to prepare great album art and something special as a video. Of course the pandemic delayed things more — so much for the best laid plans — or should that be ‘strategies'? The songs are very varied, and some of them are quite long. There's also one or two songs which sound pretty different to our usual style, and I think Maiden fans will be surprised — in a good way, I hope!" The ultimate edition on vinyl! Housed in a heavy-duty slipcase, the package features a replica of Into Darkness LP with original cover layout, the demo Eternal Frost making its vinyl debut plus a thick magazine with Winter memorabilia. Perpetually out of print, much sought after and universally worshipped amongst those in the know, Winter’s Into Darkness was a game-changing classic. Formed in New York circa 1988, Winter played slow, deep and hard nuclear doom with a crust punk rawness, that came across like Hellhammer jamming with Amebix. Their penchant for mammoth sized and funeral-paced, wasteland droning has become a touchstone reference for bands across the whole spectrum of underground metal. Their pre-internet infamy led to Winter demos being tape- traded in hallowed adoration by fans and bands alike, gaining notable fans such as Fenriz from Darkthrone. Deserving of their special place in the pantheon of one-off classic albums, the Swans-like noise and down-tuned Earth-like riffs of Into Darkness went on to spawn countless doom and sludge bands, being an influence for an entire doomed generation. The Winter come-back show at Roadburn Festival in 2011 was massively anticipated and held a captivated audience. Packing out one of The Netherlands largest stages, that particular Winter show, after many years in obscurity is a rare event that is still highly regarded today. The band is a rare jewel amongst collectors, and audiences alike. Svart Records is proud to re-release Into Darkness once more, having only been reissued once in a limited edition during this millennium, putting the album back in print for a new generation of listeners. This reprint notably also features the legendary demo which was only reissued on a mini-cd in 1995, now finally on vinyl. The double vinyl set comes in a slipcase box with a luxury 32 page magazine, with every imaginable press clipping and piece of memorabilia about Winter ever produced! Into Darkness was a gateway drug to the dark depths of sludge metal, and now awaits a whole new throng of acolytes who bow down before the throne of heavy doom. Eternal Winter awaits! Black vinyl is limited to 600 copies. (Svart Records)

Soul Jazz Records are releasing PUNK 45: I’m A Mess, a new collection of punk and D-I-Y rare 45s from the UK, as a one-off pressing limited-edition double album with a bonus 45 exclusive for Record Store Day 2022. Soul Jazz Records’ long-lasting Punk 45 series are high-quality editions of early punk 45s. While previous editions have focussed on the early days of punk in Los Angeles, Cleveland, Akron, France, and proto-punk, this new edition focusses on mainly do-it-yourself, or self-released 45s, all made in the UK in the early days of punk. While only a handful of Punk 45s were released in 1976, the following two years produced an avalanche of them. Aside from the few punk bands who signed to major labels, many of these singles were self-released private press 45s or independent label 45s. With limited distribution and access to the media, many of these sunk without trace and were lost in history. This album features many of these independent punk 45 gems, lost nuggets of gold from the sea of time! The bands featured here come from all across the United Kingdom. Here you will find The Drive, Scotlands’ answer to the New York Dolls, Dansette Damage from Newcastle, Stormtrooper, from the Isle of Wight and many more - a snapshot of some of the finest private-press 45s ever made. Other bands include Cybermen, The Exile, Neon as well as the early punk incarnations Johnny and The Self-Abusers (who later became Simple Minds) and The Killjoys (with vocals by Kevin Rowland who later formed Dexy’s Midnight Runners). These are all one-off and super rare releases from bands that you have probably never heard of! – totally hidden gems from the wastelands of the early days of punk. Totally in keeping with the spirit of the time, this is high-octane, righteously-independent - DIY or die! The RSD special edition comes with an exclusive 45 of Stormtrooper ‘I’m A Mess’/’It’s Not Me’ Tracklist A1 The Art Attacks– I Am A Dalek 2:50 A2 The Drive – Jerkin 3:42 A3 Johnny And The Self Abusers– Saints And Sinners 1:52 A4 Trash (13)– Priorities 2:33 A5 The Carpettes– Help I'm Trapped 1:05 B1 Stormtrooper – I'm A Mess 2:43 B2 The Electric Chairs– So Many Ways 3:57 B3 Social Security – I Don't Want My Heart To Rule My Head 3:03 B4 Neon Hearts– Venus Eccentric 2:42 C1 The Cybermen – Cybernetic Surgery 1:57 C2 The Killjoys– Naive 2:47 C3 The Reducers– Things Go Wrong 2:56 C4 Johnny Moped– No One 2:48 C5 Neon – Bottles 2:22 D1 V2 (5)– Speed Freak 2:03 D2 The Exile – Fascist DJ 2:08 D3 Lucy – Feel So Good 3:27 D4 Machines (3)– True Life 2:06 D5 Dansette Damage– N.M.E. 2:39 E Stormtrooper – I'm A Mess 2:33 F Stormtrooper – It's Not Me 3:30 (Soul Jazz Records)
  • Best of album by the British heavy metal band who have had a career spanning over four decades. The album includes studio and live tracks including 'Be Quick or Be Dead', 'Sign of the Cross' and 'Holy Smoke'. BBC Review: Although British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden have over 30 years of recording and touring under their belts, their 1980s output remains the most enduring. This double-LP set, showcasing the years 1990-2010, is designed to redress the balance. In keeping with its predecessors, the sixth official Iron Maiden best-of is strictly for the uninitiated. Long-time fans with find nothing new here. Presenting 23 tracks drawn from the eight Maiden studio albums released since 1990, From Fear to Eternity is aimed primarily at the army of fresh recruits who have flocked to the band during their recent resurgence in popularity, which has made the last decade their most successful yet. Maiden’s most recent studio album, 2010’s The Final Frontier, hit the number one spot in no less than 28 countries, and their visceral stage shows are as compelling as ever. Against such a backdrop, this release is both timely and revealing. Unlike 2008’s Somewhere Back in Time – The Best of 1980-1989, From Fear to Eternity doesn’t simply re-hash all the obvious hits. The general feeling always seemed to be that a post-80s retrospective was pointless, as the 90s were supposedly something of a creative write-off and the band’s recent albums were, well, recent. But events have moved on and this collection reminds us that not only did Maiden cut the classic album Fear of the Dark during these supposed lean years, the period from 2001 onwards has seen them pen some of the best songs of their entire career. Even the albums featuring frontman Bruce Dickinson’s temporary replacement Blaze Bayley – 95’s The X Factor and 98’s Virtual XI – aren’t ignored. The influence of progressive rock on Maiden’s sound has been evident from the start, and as the years have gone by their material has become increasingly complex. As a result, the number of straightforward rockers here is surpassed by a wealth of densely-layered mini-epics which have now become the band’s signature style. The rather unlikely UK number one single Bring Your Daughter… to the Slaughter may have lost none of its charm, but in the likes of For the Greater Good of God and When the Wild Wind Blows we’re witnessing a great British band become even greater. --Greg Moffitt *Denotes live recordings. "Sign of the Cross," "Fear of the Dark" and "The Clansman" were recorded at Rock in Rio in Brazil on 19 January, 2001. Soul Jazz Records’ fantastic collection Betty Harris’ ‘The Lost Queen of New Orleans Soul’ available in new one-off limited-edition heavyweight gatefold special edition green vinyl coloured pressing + download code exclusively for Record Store Day 2022! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Betty Harris’ The Lost Queen of New Orleans Soul features all of her classic deep soul, sister funk and northern soul songs recorded in New Orleans in the 1960s - all written, produced and arranged by the legendary Allen Toussaint, and featuring the cream of New Orleans musicians and the incredible Meters. All of these singles featured here were released on Allen Toussaint and his business partner Marshall Sehorn’s local New Orleans label Sansu, widely distributed in the southern city but in only limited quantities elsewhere. As a consequence, Betty Harris’ music failed to achieve the commercial success of other New Orleans artists such as Lee Dorsey (who she recorded with) and The Meters (who backed her). And so at the end of the decade she stopped recording, retired from the music business to raise her family in Florida. This is no reflection of the stunning musical quality of all these songs which encompass everything from southern soul, heavy funk, deep soul ballads and northern soul. Betty Harris has been a cornerstone of Soul Jazz Records’ New Orleans Funk and New Orleans Soul compilations. Always soulful and always funky, Betty Harris’ music contains the essence of New Orleans music. She is the Lost Soul Queen of New Orleans. This collection is released on CD, heavyweight gatefold double LP vinyl (+ download code) and digital and comes complete with full biography, original label artwork. REVIEWS: "Betty Harris’ ‘The Lost Queen Of New Orleans Soul’ collects together the steady stream of amazing soul and funk singles issued by Betty Harris from 1964 to 1969, under the musical guidance of legendary composer, musician and producer extraordinaire Allen Toussaint, a collection which truly captures the heart and soul of the city of New Orleans. There is a stunning musical quality to all these songs which encompass everything from southern soul, heavy funk, deep soul ballads and Northern Soul. • Though not quite the shotgun blast of an album that its predecessor, "Feel the Darkness", was, "Blank Blackout Vacant" is nonetheless an ample testimony to Poison Idea's unbridled power and force. Suffused with enough hate, pain, and rage to fuel an entire army, Jerry A.'s vocals, positively dripping with bile and venom, certainly cement his ideas with passion and force. "Understated" is not a word that is possible to use with this band. Poison Idea, from their inception in the very early '80s through their terminal point, shone with bitter, violent power. Unlike most Poison Idea albums from the '80s, "Blank Blackout Vacant" doesn't rely on speed to get its point across. In fact, a song like "Forever and Always," with its loose, Aerosmith-like groove and its saxophone, presages the type of rock & roll that bands like Rocket from the Crypt would make years later. Many other songs reside in the same vein. The cover of the New York Dolls' "Vietnamese Baby" provides an interesting touch, amping up the original, while retaining its desperate, low-rent feeling. While not quite the bellowing, fire-breathing beast that is "Feel the Darkness", "Blank Blackout Vacant" is a more varied, eclectic piece of work from this veteran American hardcore band. - DELUXE REISSUE OF POISON IDEA's 1992 CLASSIC ALBUM - REMIXED FROM THE ORIGINAL ANALOG TAPES BY JOEL GRIND (of TOXIC HOLOCAUST) - DOUBLE LP INCLUDING: ORIGINAL LP & BONUS 10-TRACK ALBUM "Still-reigning heavyweight kings of Punk bodyslam forth another much awaited ring full of hot power presses from Hades... More hard rock and metal structuring that might piss off a few whiney purists that don't matter anyways... Great lyrics about what some may call the less pleasant side of existence, but POISON IDEA just call life... Christ the Album was the fourth album by Crass from 1982. It was originally released as a boxed set double vinyl LP package, including one disk of new studio material and another, entitled Well Forked… But Not Dead, of a live recording of their June 1981 gig at the 100 Club in London along with other studio tracks, demos and tape fragments. The box also included a book, A Series Of Shock Slogans and Mindless Token Tantrums (which featured Penny Rimbaud's essay The Last of the Hippies, telling the story of the suspicious death of his friend Wally Hope) and a largesize poster painted by Gee Vaucher. The album took over a year to record, produce and mix, during which time the Falklands War had taken place. This caused Crass to fundamentally question their approach to making records, for as a group whose very reason for existing was to comment upon political issues, they felt they had been overtaken and made to appear redundant by real world events. Ratcheting up the continued "leave no stone unturned" lyrical approach that characterized the group from the start, Crass again sounds like the group's about to explode in eight million directions. Ignorant takes over the lead vocal role again, his rough ramalama bitterly leading the charge against the loathed Thatcher government and the society that allowed it to come into power. Libertine, here appearing as Peeve Libido, adds backing vocals while De Vivre takes the lead on Birth Control and Sentiment. Free's guitar work roars along with the usual vim, as does the Pete Wright aka Sybil Right / Rimbaud rhythm section, while continual spiking of the musical punch via production or sonic collages, or even almost power pop catchiness at points, prevents things from being one note. In addition to the two records, this box set contains a poster and the 26-page booklet "A Series of Shock Slogans and Mindless Token Tantrums. (Crass Records/Reissue 2019)

December 2019 marks the 40 year anniversary of an important record in our lives, AK79. Within the grooves of this historical landmark compilation lies a connection to our musical whakapapa as New Zealanders and music lovers. A defining record, having captured a raw snapshot of the punk subculture in Auckland during the late 70s, this much-loved compilation is a living, breathing statement of what came before today. To mark this very special occassion, Flying Nun Records pays tribute to those ragged and rambunctious years by presenting AK79 40th Anniversary Edition Reissue, due in-stores throughout New Zealand on December 13th. Presented in a myriad of forms; on limited edition red vinyl, standard black vinyl and CD, we can celebrate this iconic cornerstone of alternative kiwi rock history with this special anniversary edition. Featuring new liner notes written by Ripper Records’ Bryan Staff, the 2019 reissue will feature all songs ever featured on any version of AK79 for a complete look at its recorded history. About AK79 Raw, unfiltered, shambolic madness. The vision to capture the Auckland scene began with Bryan Staff (Head of Ripper Records and Radio DJ at the time) who saw reason to capture the music coming out of the local punk venues of the time such as Windsor Castle and Zwines. Originally released by Ripper Records in December 1979, bands that featured on the original pressing included The Swingers, The Scavengers, The Primmers, Proud Scum, Toy Love and The Terrorways. The musical movement captured on record was an abrasive, empowered response to the overindulgent progressive rock and glam era of the 70s. The initial pressing, with its iconic black and white cover designed by Terence Hogan was limited to 500 copies, to be later reissued on vinyl and cassette through CBS. During the 40 years since AK79’s first release, the record took on a life of its own. Those original 500 pressings became a rare and coveted collectors item, and somewhat of an “urban myth” on the vinyl market. So the story goes, when the original master recordings of AK79 were discarded in 1982, it only created further demand for this enigmatic record. Responding to the call, an expanded version of AK79 arose, released on CD by Simon Grigg and Roger Shepherd as a joint release by Propeller Records and Flying Nun Records in 1993. This time there were some late additions, including tracks from The Suburban Reptiles, The Spelling Mistakes, The Features and The Marching Girls, along with additional tracks from the original bands on the first pressing. This particular reissue was remastered and mixed by Grigg, and came bundled with additional liner notes by Grigg, Staff and The Terrorways’ own Kerry Buchanan. In November 2008, a bootlegged 2 LP version would come to life for a very special reunion gig in Auckland which involved The Scavengers, The Spelling Mistakes and the first performances from The Terrorways and Proud Scum since 1980 in a rare event. At the time, it was sold at the show with unreleased tracks and a 20-page booklet. Six years later, the AK79 compilation was honoured in its many forms with the IMNZ Classic Record award, presented at the Taite Music Prize ceremony. 40 years on, the spirit of the AK79 still packs a punch and the feeling captured in these recordings are as relevant as ever. Two Sevens Clash is the debut album by roots reggae band Culture, recorded with producer Joe Gibbs at his own Joe Gibbs Recording Studio in Kingston in 1976, and released on Gibbs' eponymous label in 1977. The album's title is a reference to the date of 7 July 1977. Singer Joseph Hill said Two Sevens Clash was based on a prediction by Marcus Garvey, who said there would be chaos on 7 July 1977, when the "sevens" met. With its apocalyptic message, the song created a stir in his Caribbean homeland and many Jamaican businesses and schools closed for the day. "Just a few words about this 2017 40th Anniversary release of the classic "Two Sevens Clash" album. This is one of the greatest albums ever released by a Jamaican vocal trio and one of the best albums ever released in the Jamaican reggae genre. Culture, with leader Joseph Hill, is one of the best vocal trios from Jamaica. Just listen to the harmonies and you'll understand. Chances are if you're reading this you already own either the stand alone album and/or the 2007 release on the Shenachie label (with nice packaging and a great booklet) , so no review of the album is necessary. This 2017 set includes the original album and the extra tracks found on the Shenachie release, but also has a few more extra tracks that flesh out the music even more. While the original album can stand on its own as a classic, it's nice to have even more good music that incorporates rhythms from the original album. Produced by Joe Gibbs and engineered by Errol Thompson, musicians include Sly Dunbar, Lloyd Parks, Franklin Waul, Bingy Bunny, Robbie Shakespeare, Sticky, Herman Marquis, Vin Gordon, Tommy McCook, and Bobby Ellis. These guys had "it" and laid down some very fine rhythms for Culture to sing over. The sound is very good--clean and open--similar to the 2007 issue. The booklet has an essay by filmmaker Don Letts, a track list, and photos of the group. The wallet style cardboard packaging has slots for each disc and the booklet, plus a list of musicians, and Joe Gibbs' original liner notes. Thrash Metal. At first mocked by the Rock traditionalists Thrash would swamp the hard n' heavy world propelling one of it's own - Metallica, to the very pinnacle of Rock's elite. In the early 80s Thrash breathed new life into the Rock scene providing older acts with a much needed kick. This new force opened the floodgates to armies of teens armed with flying Vs, bullet belts and a sense of purpose that would fuel genres such as Thrashcore, Crossover and technical Speed Metal. Without Thrash there would be no Death Metal, no Black Metal. That explosion of aggression has seen subsequent afterblasts, most recently Europe and South America has seen a genuine renaissance of Thrash Metal. Without doubt, Thrash Metal still continues to make its mark in the biggest possible way. The 'big four' - Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer are all documented here in the greatest possible detail with full, up to the minute histories, exclusive photographs and global discographies, which include demos, albums, singles, chart positions, track listings and catalogue numbers. Over 400,000 words leave no stone left unturned in pursuit of knowledge of ex-members, rare recordings and career milestones. The author has interviewed all these major acts. Indeed, he interviewed Metallica's late Cliff Burton just days before his passing. The early days of Megadeth are straight from the mouth of Dave Mustaine. Also covered are the legion of groundbreaking Bay Area acts such as Metal Church, Testament, Exodus, Death Angel and Hirax. The European Thrash explosion of Kreator, Rage, Destruction, Sodom, Grave Digger and Helloween is also covered in frightening detail. The Pagan Thrash of Sabbat, the avant garde eccentricity of Celtic Frost and the Funk Thrash of Morded - it's all here. The second wave of Thrash with major artists such as Sepultura, Pantera and Machine Head takes the genre right up to the new breed of Thrashers, now a truly world-wide phenomomen. All examined in depth. Having achieved its quarter of a century, Thrash Metal is not only alive, it is thriving. If you thought this rawest form of Heavy Metal was consigned to the past this book will deliver a rude awakening! Read the book, buy the records and bang that head!! Master of Puppets is the third studio album by Metallica; released on March 3 1986. Recorded at the Sweet Silence Studios with producer Flemming Rasmussen, it was the first Metallica album released on a major label. Master of Puppets was the band's last album to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a bus crash in Sweden during the album's promotional tour. Master of Puppets was released to critical acclaim and has been included in several publications' best album lists. Its driving, virtuosic music and angry, political lyrics drew praise from critics outside the metal community. The album is considered the band's strongest effort of the period and is one of the most influential heavy metal albums. Critics credit it for consolidating the American thrash metal scene with its atmospheric and meticulously performed songs. Such was its success that it sold over 6millions copies in the US alone! 180 Gram Remastered LP. (Blackened ‎– BLCKND005R-1/2020/US Version)

They did, however, suggest the band Fear as a replacement. somewhat paradoxically, Fear, with all its sound, fury, and decidedly politically incorrect ideas, was somehow acceptable. make no mistake, The Record is aggressive, offensive, and loud - it is the sound of a kid flipping the bird. and there is a barreling, garage-like catchiness to anthems such as 'I Love Living in the City.' the difference between Fear and bands like Black Flag is a subtle but crucial one: Fear does not cross the line into aural violence. perhaps it is the tongue-in-cheek quality to Lee Ving's rants about minority groups in 'Let's Have a War.' ving may be giving everyone within earshot the finger but he's doing it from a moving car." Nick was awarded the grand prix of the prestigious “Triennial of Self-taught Visionary Art” at Belgrade in February of this year. This book is effectively the first career-spanning retrospective publication many fans of his have been asking for. We believe that Blinko's art perfectly gels with the Zagava aesthetic and it has been a joy and a privilege to work on this particular publication, we believe that Zagava reader's who might not be aware of Nick's sleeve art for his own band Rudimentary Peni or his one-off art for Coil, the Lovecraft volume he has illustrated or the two previous volumes David Tibet has published under his Coptic Cat imprint, will find much to enjoy in this book. Each of Nick's creations is like a weird novella in itself, you can at least spend as much time exploring the endlessly detailed work as you would spend on reading and decoding an Aickman strange story. We are conceptualising an very limited and outrageous special portfolio edition, details tbc. We are certain you will love this book and Nick's art. "To be honest, I have waited years and years for this book to be released. When I first discovered that Jonas at Zagava Books was making a book featuring the art of Nick Blinko, I nearly fell over in my casket. The moment the book arrived, I could not wait to open the packaging to look at the hypnotizing art. Every page drew me further and further into the dark mind that is Nick Blinko. Each piece is presented beautifully and one can spend hours studying the intricate details Nick places into his art. Nick Blinko is one of the most important Outside artist and his works on paper as well as with Rudimentary Peni are iconic. He puts his own mind at risk to allow the viewer a moment into the madness and genius that lies within. It is wonderful that the art of Nick Blinko can now be enjoyed by many in this wonderful book. * A unique compilation of Electronic, Minimal, Synth, Wave and Avantgarde music from ex-Yugoslavia * Two double LPs with over 150 minutes and 47 songs from 1964-1989 - This here is PART 1 now, the second part will be released in 2023 * Earlier released on CD in 2014 by Croatia Records, ex Jugoton * Restored from the original master tapes by the veteran archive diggers Višeslav Laboš and Zeljko Luketić The galloping technical progress in the second half of the last century dominated all spheres of daily life, art and culture. In the music industry machines took over the role of classical instruments and did not stop at RnR, punk nor industrial music. No one could resist the challenge, but also the prevailing trends in the 80s. The music industry was influenced by the electronic virus globally, not sparing even the remotest corners of the planet, producing bands like Depeche Mode, New Order, Soft Cell or lesser known ones like Liquid Liquid, Section 25, The Wake as well as the pioneers of the electronic music Silver Apples, Pierre Henry, etc . What was going on in the music industry of former Yugoslavia and at Jugoton, the biggest YU music label at that time? The all over answer is given by a new release of Everland Music: Electronic Jugoton - Synthetic music from Yugoslavia 1964. - 1989. Vol. 1 Electronic Jugoton is the first part of two double albums, where the second part will even go back to pre-electronic music from 1964. Both double albums were initially released by Croatia Records (ex-Jugoton) in 2014 on a 2CD set with no less than two and a half hours of material (47 songs, 35 performers), showing the contemporary trend of Jugoton at that time towards avant-garde and provocative directions in electronic music. This untimely compilation is released for the first time on vinyl now on two double LPs, housed in gatefold sleeves by Everland Music, where part 2 will be released in 2023. The brave and insightful creators of the compilation Electronic Jugoton, veteran crate diggers Višeslav Laboš and Zeljko Luketić, have excelled at reconstructing the musical past of electronic music in Yugoslavia from 1964 – 1989. Jugoton's extensive research included the most exciting and progressive moments of pop and disco music, early rap, electronic responses of new wave, RnR, post punk and industrial bands to the current trend of the 80s, but also pioneers of avant-garde electronic music. Electronic Jugoton part 1 is officially opened by the band Laboratorija with the song Devica 69, which opens a window to a completely new and experimental world in former Yugoslavia.Laboš and Luketić have boldly chosen the material without reservations, suggesting that for the first time in one place we have a section of forgotten, unique underground bands like Beograd, Data, Brazil, The Master Scratch band, DU DU A and beyond. Besides the excellent underground bands, we find popular performers of the time performing less well-known songs: Denis & Denis, Oliver Mandić, Slađana & Neutral Design. Electronic Jugoton part 2 is partly dedicated to unique electronic music in the performance of important Yugoslav punk, new wave, RnR and industrial bands: Zana, Pekinška patka, Električni orgazam and Borghesia, while the second part of the material is focused on avant-garde early electronic music in Yugoslavia, where the works of composers Igor Savin, Branimir Sakac, Igor Kuljerić and Miroslav Miletić were presented. Luketić and Laboš rescued the obscure electronic tune Elektra by Zdenka Kovačiček, who was at that time Jugoslovska Soul and funk diva. The uniqueness and quality of this compilation are also audio stories for children, which were extremely fertile ground for an experimentation with electronic sounds, as they should be highly imaginative to attract the attention of the childrens. Electronic Jugoton is also the first compilation in which the listener will find fragments of interviews with actors from the time gave for Jugoton Express. This was a series of promo vinyls printed in extremely small quantities in the 80's and intended to be exclusively for radio stations. An average of 30 minutes of promotion material and interviews with musicians were available for the first time through this compilation. The value of this compilation is time and priceless. The only question is whether you will be fast enough to catch your copy of the limited double vinyl editions! A1. Laboratorija - Jugoton Express A2. Laboratorija-Devica 69 A3. D'Boys - Žaba A4. Fugazi, one of music's most revolutionary and gloriously indefinable bands, played their first concert on September 3, 1987. KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN presents the best of Friedman's unparalleled photographic documentation of Fugazi's members in almost 200 colour and black-and-white images captured onstage and off between 1986 and Fugazi's last US concert in 2002. Fugazi evolved from Washington, DC's, hardcore punk scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s. While it would be impossible to fully capture Fugazi in any one medium, Friedman's book effectively complements the band's Dischord Records catalog, which includes seven studio albums, one soundtrack, three EPs, and hundreds of live concert CDs produced from Fugazi's own soundboard recordings. The first edition of the book was released in 2007 on the 20th anniversary of Fugazi's first show). As of 2019, a second edition has been released which includes a new interview with Glen E. Friedman & Ian MacKaye. The almost 200-page, hardcover book presents the best of Friedman's unparalleled photographic documentation of Fugazi's members in almost 200 color and black & white images captured by Friedman on-stage and off between 1986 and Fugazi's last U.S. concert in 2002. "Glen E. Friedman is considered one of the most important photographers of his generation, world-renowned for his prescient documentation of many of recent history's most iconic movements in pop culture. • Soul Jazz Records are proud to present this new collection of music from the great Fashion Records, one of the most important and iconic independent labels to come out of the UK, and which ran from 1980 for nearly 20 years. In that time Fashion released hundreds of records that successfully reflected, and indeed set, the changing styles and perspectives of reggae music in the UK – from UK dancehall and lovers rock in the 1980s through to the mighty rise of jungle in the second half of the 1990s. While nearly all other UK reggae labels focused on releasing Jamaican music – from the early days of Island and Trojan in the 1960s, through Island and Virgin in the 1970s, and Greensleeves that came up in the 1980s – Fashion’s focus was firmly on music produced in the UK. This unique British perspective shaped both lyrical content and musical fashion. And like all the great music labels – from Studio One to Blue Note – Fashion was able to create a significant roster of its own artists. Amazingly for a small independent label, a number of Fashion artists achieved mainstream UK chart and crossover success – including Laurel & Hardy, Smiley Culture and General Levy. But although this success was welcomed, crossing over into the mainstream was never the main focus for the label owners Chris Lane and John McGillivray (who also runs the successful Dub Vendor record shop) whose starting point was always primarily focused on producing quality music first. In the early 1980s, Fashion Records captured the rise of the emerging British dancehall scene in its ascendency. The large roster of first generation British-born artists and MCs on the label – including General Levy, Papa Face, Smiley Culture, Bionic Rhona, Asher Senator, Laurel & Hardy, Top Cat and many more – often gave a unique and sometimes humorous British lyrical perspective to Fashion releases, discussing everyday subjects, from police harassment to road safety! Throughout much of the 1980s and into the 1990s Fashion continued to release an almost relentless array of UK dancehall releases as well as continuing with lovers rock, and the occasional dub releases. Then, in the mid-90s, with the dancehall and reggae releases still coming on strong, Fashion released a superb series of early jungle tracks linking Jamaican and British MCs and dancehall artists with young jungle mixers, re-mixers and producers. By this time dancehall artists General Levy and Cutty Ranks had become the staple vocal samples of literally hundreds of white label jungle records and Fashion took advantage of this, often getting young producers to work in exchange for sample clearances – don’t get mad, get even! This album is a subjective and scatter-gun ride through some of the many unique and heavyweight tracks to come out of the Fashion stable that we love – some classics, some lesser-known, all 100% killer! The album is released on heavyweight triple vinyl (+ download code). The album comes with extensive sleevenotes featuring interviews with Fashion founders Chris Lane and John MacGillvary, as well as exclusive photography and original artwork and flyers. Mastodon present their anxiously awaited ninth full-length album, Hushed and Grim, via Reprise Records. Over the past year, the group recorded the album in their home town, collaborating with producer David Bottrill [Tool, Rush, Muse, Peter Gabriel] behind the board. As their most ambitious body of work to date, it consists of 15 tracks, surveying sonic landscapes of rock, psychedelia, punk, metal, alternative, and prog threaded together by the innately expressive musical interplay of these four musicians. At the same time, an atmosphere of loss, loneliness, and longing permeates through the trio of cathartic vocals as they musically say goodbye to old friend, confidant, and long-time manager the late Nick John by architecting a magnum opus that bears the influence of his eternal memory. • Picture disc LP with bonus flexi disc (red) limited to 250 copies. The most Hardcore-infused BORIS album to date, their 26th full length recorded in self-isolation due to the pandemic. This is how BORIS themselves describe the mood behind this album: “A mirror that gathers and reflects people’s negative energy at a different angle, one that is positive. That is the power and potential of the dark, extreme, and brutal noise music that we have experienced up to this point“. Previously released in Japan only by Blood Sucker Records on CD and LP (both versions already sold out and getting pricey on Discogs or elsewhere), this exclusive F.O.A.D. edition is the first internationally distributed and it adds a bonus flexi disc with an unreleased version of the band’s cover of “Fundamental Error” by GUDON, featuring Guy (ORIGIN OF M, ex-GUDON) on bass!! To sum it all up: “NO” balances a respect for Japanese hardcore tradition with uncompromising idiosyncrasy, resulting in one of the most brazen and punishing Boris albums to date. The whole album keeps a nervous pace where their familiar sludgy doom atmospheres – that they always deliver with unmatched apocalyptic heaviness – give way to roaring Hardcore bursts in a perfectly flowing crescendo. • Spitboy blazed trails for feminist musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond during their brief but impactful life, touring the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. Releasing records on labels such as Ebullition, Allied Recordings, and Bay Area punk institution Lookout Records, they stood solitarily against what, at the time, was an almost entirely male-dominated sub culture of punk and hardcore. Formed in response to the homogenized masculinity of the late 1980's and early 1990s scene, their brash and abrasive style of music was paired equally with their confrontational live shows, and unwillingness to tolerate preconceived gender roles and social norms within the punk scene, and American society at large. 100% of the proceeds from the release will go to the National Women's Law Center. -Complete Discography -Fully Remastered -Liner notes by Billie Joe Armstrong and Vique Simba "They were one of those bands that were a prequel to what the future was becoming. Feminism, human rights, animal rights, environmental protection, gender issues... Spitboy was singing about these issues 30 fucking years ago. I'm so grateful to have witnessed it." -Billie Joe Armstrong "Spitboy are one of the most important punk bands to have ever existed. To me, an angry 20-year-old in London, discovering them felt like the first time I truly identified with a band's politics and agenda. One of my all-time favourite albums (then and now) was Penis Envy by Crass. No lyrics had ever touched me the way this album had--until Spitboy entered my life. My people. My radical feminists. My punk scene. Where I have lived and belonged for over 30 years." -Vique Simba "They were one of those bands that were a prequel to what the future was becoming. Feminism, human rights, animal rights, environmental protection, gender issues... Spitboy was singing about these issues 30 fucking years ago. I’m so grateful to have witnessed it." - Billie Joe Armstrong, Green Day “A lot of people don’t want to go to a punk show and get a lecture, but we didn’t care. We want to be a band for women in the scene and while we’re at it, we’d like to tell the young men a thing or two and maybe prevent harassment, prevent rape, or get people thinking about these issues. We knew that we were alienating some people, but the music was loud and fast and angry, so it was as combative, and we just thought, we’re never going to break into a major label. That wasn’t our aim, so we didn’t really spend a lot of time worrying about that.” -Drummer / lyricist Michelle Cruz Gonzales to LA Review of Books, 2018 (Don Giovanni Records)

  • Reissue of this 1994 album from the Crust/Doom Metal band. HUMAN GARBAGE was the first full length (1994) released on the bands' own Life is Abuse and Misanthropic Records. From '91 to '93 Dystopia existed as a four piece. Included with this release are the tracks from splits with GRIEF and EMBITTERED, both from 1993 and another only previously released on the first CD format of this collection. Out of print for years these songs find a new home at Tankcrimes. The pure anger and misery that is constantly present on this record make it undoubtedly one of the most disturbing, depressing and misanthropic records ever. An essential part of any sludge punk, crust metal or doom fan's collection. (Tankcrimes Records) https://downloads.tankcrimes.com/album/human-garbage
  • “Wait Long by the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By” is the second album released by the Drones. The album draws influence from the likes of Neil Young and The Birthday Party, though it has been described by lead singer/guitarist Gareth Liddiard himself as a punk rock album. The lyrics, penned by Liddiard, deal with issues such as death, depression and alcoholism in its depiction of Australian working-class life. The album received critical acclaim upon release, regarded later on as the band's "break-out" and one of their most popular releases. The track "Shark Fin Blues", in particular, went on to become a concert staple and was voted by contemporary Australian songwriters as the greatest Australian song of all time in October 2009. The album itself was performed live in its entirety many times, even as a part of the acclaimed Don't Look Back concert series. In 2008, The Age ranked it the best Australian album of the 21st century. Three years later, the band's contemporaries & "industry experts" would vote it the 24th best Australian album of all time. • Since the historiography of punk is a male-dominated one, a »Revenge of the She-Punks« was long overdue. This feminist reckoning was written by none other than post-punk pioneer Vivien Goldman, who has an insider’s perspective due to her work as a musician and one of Britian’s first female music writers. Along four themes – Identity, Money, Love and Protest – the »punk professor« traces empow- ering moments that punk holds especially for women. Wiseblood is one of the most well-known Corrosion of Conformity albums and was released in 1996 as the fifth studio album by the American heavy metal band. The album charted on the Billboard Top 200 Album Charts and peaked at #104. The history of Corrosion of Conformity in modern heavy music is highly significant, not least due to guitarist Pepper Keenan's formation of all-star project Down, along with Pantera's Philip Anselmo and members of Crowbar. Wiseblood includes the tracks “Drowning in a Daydream”, which was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 40th Grammy Awards, and “Man Or Ash”, on which Metallica's James Hetfield provides backing vocals. 180 gram audiophile vinyl 2 printed innersleeves (Music on Vinyl)

Since 1981, Chris Barrows has taken pictures of bands at their concerts, backstage, and behind the scenes. From U2 during their first tour in 1982 to Captain Sensible of The Damned on his knees in an alley licking a dominatrix’s thigh high vinyl boots, or Lee Ving standing on railroad tracks at night, Barrows' intimate and stirring portraits of bands stripped down and unguarded will be a wonderful addition to any music fan's collection. "Cheap Shots isn't just a killer punk rock photo book. It's also a vital rock 'n' roll history document." ―Razorcake "Sadly, there is a lot of American music history that will be forgotten in the mists of time, simply because no one thought to document these instances. Thankfully, this is not always the case. Chris Barrows captured many nights, now decades old, with his camera. His work is not only good but allows us to see what was happening way back then. Chris is one of the only people I am aware of who took their camera into the backstage environs of a Black Flag show. It’s not that we were engaging in conduct less than becoming, we didn’t have the budget, it’s just that no one cared. But Chris did and so, through his lens and to our great benefit, the past is still with us." ―Henry Rollins, frontman of Black Flag and author of The Portable Henry Rollins among many more "Cheap Shots is a taste ov what Florida Punk Rokk veteran Chris Barrows (Pink Lincolns, Jackie Papers, The Spears) witnessed at shows. These cheap shots are the quintessential photojournal for the quintessential punkrokker. I am honored to be included within these pages ov brilliant photos shot and assembled by my good friend and fellow vetpunk!" ―Rikk Agnew, Universal Punkgoth Rock n' Roll Superstar Guitar God, Living Legend "In those halcyon days of punk rock pits of yore an element of danger was omnipresent along with a wafting mist of blood sweat testosterone and pussy juice and thank Satan shutterbug warriors like Chris Barrows risked their necks and were there to capture this historical aggro in warts and all full blown Eastman black and white. The brick you hold in your fetid urine mitts contains a slice of this never before seen punk rock piece of history. • Hey there, human kids, Lift your face out of the feed trough and pluck that feculence from your ears. Hark! A sonar blip from beneath the pile of bodies. Boop, blip ughhh…. People churning like a boiling swamp. Man, this din is nauseating. The screen flickers for the first time this year with a transmission from two months in the future: “the internet has deemed guitar music dead and you are free to do whatever the fuck you like ….long live the new flesh!” This album is Soundcloud hip-hop reversed, a far flung nemesis of contemporary country and flaccid algorithmic pop-barf. No songs about money or love are floating in the ether. Just memories, echoes, foggy blurs Blip-blop goes the scope Heavy funk Dystopia-punk canons Lonnnnng jams Bloated solos dribbling down your caved-in chest. Human cattle like a beef avalanche, right on your burned out face hole. Spider legs fuzz crawling in your brain. Lots of curse words for your mom. You’ve gotten the over-population blues, so let’s have some art for art’s sake. What else are you gonna do? Stare at the sky? Please… 50 carbon copies of you look back at you as you walk the streets. Take a breath, you’re going to need it. Take drugs, you’re going to need those just to stand in line at the air and water reclamation center soon enough. There’s no fruit, buddy. You’re at the bleak-peak. They will squeeze you till you’re all squeezed out. For fans of fried prog burn out, squished old-school drool, double drums, lead weight bass, wizard keys (now with poison), old-ass guitar and horrible words with daft meanings. • Occasionally one album can be pinpointed as the turning point in a musical genre. 'Kill 'Em All' is one such album and, boy, did the heavy metal genre need a transfusion of new blood. Herein trad metal was stripped of its late-70s pomposity and reduced to its base element of brutal sonic force. The rhythm section of Burton and Ulrich do a masterful job, as does rhythm guitar ace and vocalist James Hetfield, on a set that owes a debt to punk as much as to Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. The phantasmagorical allusions are still there in the lyrics, as are some long-winded guitar solos, but otherwise 'Kill 'Em All' promised a creative rebirth for hard rock. Remastered Version. (Blackened ‎– BLCKND003R-1 /2016/US Version)
  • Metallica turned the metal world on its ear with their debut album, 'Kill 'em All' and then blew its mind with the follow-up, 'Ride the Lightning'. The riffs and arrangements are moreintricate, the lyrics are more intelligent and biting and James Hetfield's growl is meaner. The set starts out with two tunes that would have been right at home on 'Kill 'em All', but the next two are slower and more involved. 'Ride the lightning' is a slow (by Metallica's standards) dirge about the futility of war. 'Fade to Black' is a ballad that builds to an instrumental coda featuring the guitar melodies that the band would later base their sound around. It's also Hetfield's first attempt at singing in tune. The most ambitious song is a dense instrumental, 'The Call of Ktulu', that starts with a single arpeggiated guitar and slowly adds layer upon layer, building in intensity until it all comes crashing down nine minutes later. Remastered Version. (Blackened ‎– BLCKND004R-1/2016/US Version)

  • A double album exploring the explosion of wealth of music springing from the squats and bedsits and artschools of Cologne, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and West Berlin in the aftermath of punk from the likes of Der Plan, Holger Hiller, Palais Schaumberg, Conrad Schnitzler and a host more. Do not adjust your sets. Take a step back from the tracking. This is the sound of Germany’s musical youth let loose on cheap synths and pawnshop guitars. A record of a disparate s cene of squat pop-stars, artschool upstarts and committed non-musicians who redefined German music in the first half of the 1980s. By the dawn of the new decade, punk had burnt out in a frenzy of feedback, reshaping the musical landscape before burrowing back into the underground for a period of reinvention. But the scorched earth it left behind proved to be fertile soil, nurturing a new movement grass-rooting through Germany’s major cities. For the first time the country had its own youth culture, spilling out of the squats of Hamburg and West Berlin, occupying the art scene in Düsseldorf and Köln and congregating around independent record shops stocked with angsty import 7”s. Empowered by punk’s DIY spirit, these kids valued conviction over competence, opting to ignore the industry and make music for themselves, sung in their own language. Even the cats we now call krautrock, revolutionary though they were, mostly sang in English, adopting the lingua franca of rock & roll as a shorthand for authenticity for a native crowd who wouldn’t have it any other way. This new scene rejected the expected, celebrating freedom of expression above all else. Armed with unconventional instruments, newly affordable electronics and rudimentary recording gear, they worked from the ground up, building basic rhythms and simple melodies into mutant grooves and following their imagination wherever it took them. The result was a genre-fluid wave of fusion pop pulled from funk, punk, jazz and reggae; united in attitude rather than aesthetic. Lyrically, the groups explored the serious and silly, embracing the irreverence of dadaism to deliberately displease the earnest alternativen of the older generation. (Bureau B Records)

    MESSA | close | 2xLP

    33.00 incl. tax
2LP gatefold, heavy booklet, black vinyl. Messa’s rising trajectory hits the stratosphere on their immense new album “Close”. Soaring up out of the Italian Doom Rock underground in 2014, Messa have been rapidly garnering a frenzied throng of devotees, in thrall to their monumental and broad-ranging sound craft. Releasing two widely celebrated cult records, the latest of which “Feast For Water” in 2018 was a critical breakthrough success, with Rolling Stone calling the whole album “captivating, wringing maximum drama out of its savvy stylistic clash,” Messa have had everyone on tenterhooks, waiting for what was next. New album “Close” draws us further into Messa’s spellbinding textures and immersive dynamics. Described as “Stevie Nicks fronting Black Sabbath,” singer Sara’s colossal voice omnipotently carries the listener on an emotional rollercoaster ride where the sonic cauldron of Iommi guitars gives way to Arabian oudh and progressive solos in a masterful style-clash that well befits Messa’s incendiary reputation. The hushed Fender Rhodes piano intro on opener “Suspended,” picks up where Messa left off on their previous album “Feast For Water” but then collapses gloriously into Jazz guitar and widescreen impassioned crushing riffs, lighting our way for the odyssey ahead. The scene is set magnificently for the journey that “Close” expertly takes the listener on, with Messa’s obvious care and passion for the album as a pilgrimage of sonic experience. Heavyweight tracks like “If You Want Her To Be Taken” or “0=2” are modern Doom Rock classics that expertly upgrade and leave the genre reeling in their wake. “Pilgrim” and “Orphalese” are woven with tapestries of Mediterranean sounds where oudh and eastern chord phrasings expand Messa’s cinematic palette with a panache that is all their own. Atmospheric and grandiose belters like “Rubedo” and “Dark Horse” build into an almost limitless climax of discord and harmony where blast beats and saxophones descend into a thrilling cacophony that’s a masterclass in artful cutting edge Doom. Referencing bands like Dead Can Dance, Swans and Om, Messa have created an album where song, experience and atmosphere are focused into a crystalline modus where high art flawlessly embraces good old fashioned riff-worship. Transcending the occult and noir-tinted atmospheres of their past works, “Close” confidently weaves Messa’s multifarious influences into a singular breath-taking sound that leaves the listener enthralled. Perfection or something extremely close, Messa’s “Close” is not just a Metal record, but it’s definitely one of the best things to break out of the confines of Metal in a long time. (Svart Records)
  • 2nd pressing on red vinyl, thick booklet with flyers, photos, lyrics and memorabilia Pyhäkoulu was born in 1984 when lead vocalist Sanna “Saku” Rajala came up with the idea of starting an all-female punk band. At the time Finnish punk bands had barely any female members, so such idea was rare in the social climate of the early 1980’s, especially in their hometown Hämeenlinna. Things happened fast for Pyhäkoulu and by 1990, after several lineup changes, a handful of records and heavy touring in Finland and mainland Europe, the band decided to go their separate ways. Even though they had a relatively short run of only 6 years, Saku became one of the most recognizable voices in the history of Finnish Hardcore, and Pyhäkoulu left their mark on the 1980’s punk underground with their raw and uncompromising sound. Most of the original vinyl releases have since become sought-after collector items and the band has gained cult following among the initiated. This band-approved compilation includes Pyhäkoulu’s tracks from their split with Abortti-13, their self-titled 12″, Sankari EP, live recordings from 1987 and previously unreleased studio quality tracks the band recorded in 1989 just before calling it a day. The audio material has been carefully restored and remastered from the original tapes, and the package comes with a thick booklet full of old photos, interviews, lyrics, flyers and other memorabilia. D.O.A. | 1978 | 2xLP

    33.00 incl. tax
We’re really excited to announce the release of the D.O.A. album “1978”. It’s a 21 track collection of never released demos, rare tracks and early singles from Canada’s punk pioneers. Joey Shithead went deep into the Sudden Death vault and came up with some super exciting and raw punk rock. The album title and art concept is spike haired nod of the head to that early, dynamic era of D.O.A. and to the seven great former members of D.O.A., who have passed on. Their spirit and talent played a huge role into launching the band into worldwide prominence. The two constants on the album are Joey Shithead and Chuck Biscuits who play on every track. From the start of 1978 you are drawn in by their wild, “I don’t give a shit” approach to punk rock. Now some 40 years later you can hear it all, starting with the never seen light of day demo version of The Enemy. This demo has a different set of lyrics that speaks to fighting Nazis, strange, what is old is new and vital again. There’s a ton of exciting tracks that range from the never heard before: Bored and Suicidal, The Mutant, No God No War, Rip Dis Joint, No Way Out and Rent-A-Riot to classic early singles like Fucked Up Ronnie, Disco Sucks, World War3, The Prisoner and Thirteen. You also get demo versions of America the Beautiful and Liar for Hire with Biscuits drumming, which are wildly different than the classic versions you hear on War on 45. On 1978 you hear the origins of hardcore and you get a full blast of D.O.A’s politics and raucous humour. The album has been released as a double 12” LP and CD. 1979 Demo: A1, B4 1981 Demo: A2, A3, B1, B3 1978 Single: A4, C1, D1, D2, D3, D4 1981 Single: A5 1982 Demo: B2, C2, C3, C4, C5 1979 Single: B5, D5 1979 Van.
