  • SWINEHOOD | payback time | 7″

    6.50 3.00 incl. tax
These are hand numbered out of 247 copies. Ugly and feral Scandanavian dirtbag-punk featuring members of Brainbombs, No Balls, Totalitär and The Teenage Graves. A-Side has three songs worth total slime, muscular and wildly careening minute-long blasts that are total punkfuck middle finger shits. "Wake Up And Piss" and "Payback Time (Last Day For My Boss)" are just upper-level neanderthal blasts of testosterone, but I think "In A World Full Of Crap" has a little something extra. A slight finesse to it and one of the only tunes with a time change in it, but it has that little something extra. B-Side has 3 more blast including the stomach churner "Slit My Throat On The Way Down”. The guy sounds like he means it, intoning the mantra over a repeated monster riff that might induce nausea after repeated spins and finally breaks into some gnarly feedback wailing. Overall this is the type of thing you might expect from Brainbombs/Totalitär members, although these guys sound a little bit more human. But not by much. Sick stuff for fans of Euro-filth. • 'Scrapmetal' was Civilised Society's debut album (1986) and way ahead of its time. Featuring ex-Instigators drummer and Peaceville, Hammy, the band had some good coverage for this album from the metal press. 'Scrapmetal' was early type of hardcore/punk/metal crossover album which could have gained more attention then it actually did. However, John Peel opened hiss radio show with 'The Fairer Sex' on several occaisions and even Tommy Vance played the aalbum on his show although he the band was Scrapmetal and the song Civilised Society?!! Civilised Society worked really hard in those days and gigged a lot eveen supporting MDC at Hammersmith at last minutes notice! 'Scrapmetal' contained 14 songs altogether which varied from a wide range of topics. They were very politically orientated with attitude which made a refreshing from the norm of metal bands. As said before, the album was ahead of its time and although it recieved some good airplay and reviiews in Kerrang! and Metal Forces magazines, the band found it increasingly difficult to strike out to the metal audience in general. The hardcore crowd was always in strong attendence but Civilised Society? wanted and needed to branch out and encompass different audiences. This they tried to do in many ways.

  • Government Flu did tours in the United States of both the east and west coasts. For a band coming from Poland this was a big deal. Previously, there were only Polish bands started in the 80s - DEZERTER, ABADDON and ARMIA - who had been invited to the States and these tours had happened years before, between 1998-2003. In the case of Government Flu, their tours were the first longer proper tours for any Polish HC / Punk band in this country. In addition, what made these tours special is that they occurred without the financial backing of sponsors or official associations. During their west coast tour in 2016, Government Flu was invited to a recording session on KFJC radio in Los Altos Hills, California. In this studio, operating since the end of the 1950s, live sessions have seen the recording of many artists, including a number of HC / punk bands like Government Issue, Christ On Parade, The Ex, The Faction, Spazz, Dystopia, Asshole Parade and Corrupted. The Government Flu session was both recorded and also broadcast live on the airwaves. During this session they did seven songs in less than eight minutes. This resulted in the sound engineers asking, "That?s it?!" The whole session is now coming out on a limited edition of 250 copies on flexi EP. You might have a lot of records in your collection, but you do not yet have any release from a Polish HC / punk band recorded in the United States. • Xenofon Razis is a Punk-Rock/Pub-Folk singer songwriter from Athens Greece known for his powerful performances, working class background and antifascist lyrics always active playing shows wherever possible around Greece and Europe. Webzine reviews have named his style as Acoustic Punk-Rock / Pub-Folk / Irish Thrash / Country Punk etc but he claims that he just plays music that comes straight from his heart and soul, screaming his guts out with an acoustic guitar and that's all it! His songs are full of whisky and beer, full of stories from the pubs he played and the streets he lived describing the working class struggle of everyday life, fueled with an antifascist spirit and diy background and of course infused with love, friendship, learning from mistakes, getting back up to your feet and never give up! Many bands influenced his songwriting like Chuck Ragan, Hot Water Music, Snuff, Bad Religion, The Clash, Criminal Damage and The Pogues to name a few. (Self Released)
  • There's not really that much to say about Sweden's Tortyr other than if you like your crust bassy and dirty as hell then you'll love them. Musically, they're a mix of punk and crust with a tiny hint of death metal that goes a long way to surpassing the likes of genre luminaries Skitsystem in the heaviness stakes. As with a lot of this type of music, however, it tends to get a bit samey after a few tracks. Thankfully, Tortyr do offer a little in the way of variation, although not nearly enough. "De blindas lakej" kicks off like an oldschool Swedish death metal effort, and doesn't sound a million miles away from something you'd expect from an early-90s Entombed. For me, at least, it's the track of the album and showcases an aspect of this band that they should really explore. Vocally, there's some work to be done here. It's just too shouty-screamy and, although that's the style generally used for this type of music, it's clear that these guys would benefit greatly from the odd death-growl passage here and there. It's more of this type of variation -- both musically and vocally -- that could elevate Tortyr to greater recognition and see them output a truly monstrous album. Here's hoping for next time... • If you don't know the story, this is Al Quint's (ex-Suburban Voice, current MRR columnist) band from the late 80's. They're definitely influenced by the early 80's Boston sound, and a lot of the vocal patterns remind me of Choke (Negative FX, Last Rights, Slap Shot). The playing isn't very tight, but the tunes are pretty solid. I like that there's a bio with lyrics in the liner notes, especially since this is a more or less a completely unheard of band. A lot of reissues just re-use old cover art and call it a day; but it's nice to see the effort here. Originally released as a demo (original pressing was 100 copies). Recorded in 1985. Recorded after the band had broken up already by the original singer and 3 members of PTL Klub. (No Way Records) https://nowayrecords.bandcamp.com/album/dead-bands-tell-no-tales

Disgust was a relatively short lived D-beat metal outfit that released two albums in the 90's through the Earache and Nuclear Blast labels. Their songs displayed extreme anti-war views and their artwork was often highly graphic photographs of war, massacres or the destitute effects of poverty. There's no doubt that the band was firing on all cylinders here, the twelve original tracks recorded for A World Of No Beauty are executed at absolutely breakneck speed, and the band's performance as a whole is remarkably spirited. (Westworld Records)
