• Vatican Commandos was a hardcore punk band formed in Darien, Connecticut. The band features members James Spadaccini, John Farnsworth, Lindsey Anderson, Chip Moody, Chuck "Wheat" Weaver, and Richard Hall (who also went on to success under the name "Moby" after the VC had disbanded). The band was formed in 1982 and released its first 7" EP entitled, Hit Squad for God in 1983. Richard Hall (Moby) is credited as "M.H." on the back cover of the release. Later members included Dave Hower, Mike Pollock, and Matt Craig. The band went on to release the Just a Frisbee 7" EP later in 1983 and Point Me to the End 12" EP in 1984. The "Just a Frisbee" 7" cover artwork was drawn by Rob Zombie, founder and lead singer of White Zombie.[3] The Vatican Commandos disbanded in 1985. First vinyl reissue for Darien, Connecticut hardcore punk legends Vatican Commandos’ 1983 debut, featuring Richard Hall (A.K.A. world famous pop star MOBY) on guitar. Holy grail alert! FULLY REMASTERED!!! Tracklist Why Must I Follow? It's So Scary Housewives On Valium Hit Squad For God Your Way Wonder Bread (Radiation Records)
  • DIGIPACK w/ OBI STRIP Legendary Danbury CT hardcore punk featuring a sixteen years old MOBY on guitar. Relentless riffings, anti religious lyrics, out of control drumming. This CD contains a remastered version of their hyper rare two EP's, the 12", tracks from the Make It Work 7", and an amount of unreleased tracks including the full Bill Knapp's Basement from 1982. On top of that, 3 track the band recorded with the OG line up in 2015. Total 42 tracks of old school American Hardcore. (Radiation Records)
  • This LP went in and out of print quickly in 1985 shortly before the Varukers' first breakup. Unlike the band's earlier UK82 style, this record captures Varukers taking on some of the metal influence that was sweeping UK hardcore at the time. Powerful and energetic hardcore with metallic undertones, this record is more in line with Antisystem, Antisect, or Sacrilege than say Partisans or Abrasive Wheels. Now available again on vinyl. The Varukers was one of the first groups of the UK 82 movement - the second generation of punk rock that took the spirit of '77 and merged it with the incessant beat of NWOBHM - responsible for creating UK hardcore. Heavily inspired by Discharge, The Varukers released three 7"s in the early '80s before this, their first and most definitive album, came out in 1983 on the legendary Riot City Records (Vice Squad, Abrasive Wheels, Chaos U.K.). Back in print on LP thanks to Radiation Reissues, "Bloodsuckers" is one of the definitive pieces of early UK hardcore, full of Sabbath-inspired guitar work, pounding rhythms and aggressive, anarchistic lyrical content. This compilation presents for the first time various underground techno groups and projects that emerged in Lima in the mid-1980s. Projects such as Disidentes, Paisaje Electrónico, T de Cobre, Meine Katze Und Ich, El Sueño de Alí, Cuerpos del Deseo, Círculo Interior, Ensamble and Reacción were responsible for introducing styles such as techno-pop, EBM, industrial and minimal synth in Peru. Coinciding with the explosion of punk in Lima and the appearance of the so-called Rock Subterráneo [underground rock], these techno groups shared the same DIY spirit, performing in many punk concerts and even creating their own fanzines, and, above all, opening a space for other types of sonic experiences. Meine Katze Und Ich, El Sueño de Alí and Paisaje Electrónico were also the parallel projects of the members of Narcosis, the iconic punk band, one of the founders of Rock Subterráneo. Disidentes and T de Cobre brought extreme sounds to local electronics: viscerality, mechanical rhythms and the use of Casiotones or synthesizers, which resulted in an atypical sound that, in turn, portrayed a critical time in Peru, and which has made them an unavoidable reference for any historical account of techno and industrial music in Latin America. The title of this compilation is inspired by the name of a concert held in Lima in 1991, considered to be the first techno concert to have taken place in Peru. Even though not all intervening groups were doing techno at that time, they did share the fact that they all used keyboards. Four of them, however (Cuerpos del Deseo, Ensamble, Círculo Interior and Reacción), were in fact affiliated to an electronic sound (techno-pop, EBM). The concert was a sign of the diversification of musical styles in Lima's alternative scene, and in particular of the emergence of a micro scene, for which the concert Síntomas de techno [Symptoms of Techno] represented an important step towards the development of a local culture of electronic music during the 90s. Many of the recordings included here are extracted from demos with limited circulation, practically impossible to find. Other tracks are unpublished pieces which come from the private archives of the artists themselves. The compilation has been made by Luis Alvarado and is part of the Essential Sounds Collection, with which Buh Records is making available a vast archive of avant-garde Peruvian music. This compilation is published in vinyl format in a limited edition of 300 copies, with extensive information and visual documentation. Mastered by Alberto Cendra. Art by René Sánchez. Cover photography by Rogelio Martell. This project was awarded with funding from the Economic Stimuli program of the Peruvian Ministry of Culture. Tracklist: 1 Disidentes– Martillo (1988) 4:57 2 Paisaje Electrónico– X2 (1986) 2:13 3 T De Cobre– No Nunca (1989) 4:47 4 Meine Katze Und Ich– La Gran Masa (1985) 4:17 5 El Sueño De Ali– A Dónde (1991) 5:11 6 Cuerpos Del Deseo– En LaTiniebla (1991) 3:11 7 Círculo Interior– Primera Secuencia (1990) 3:04 8 Ensamble– Industria de Odio (1990) 3:22 9 Reacción– Y de Aquí No Me Voy (1990) 3:55 Label: Buh Records Barcode: 947034121564
  • This compilation simply needs to be heard to be believed. Who knew that a psychedelic beat garage scene thrived in the pre-revolution Iran of the 1960s? As revealed herein, artists such as Googoosh and Kourosh and groups such as the Littles, the Flowers, and the Golden Ring did their best to muster echoes of the Shadows, the Ventures, the Beatles, and the Stones, delivering their lyrics in poetic Persian and keeping plenty of reverb on those rocking lead guitar riffs. With tons to discover on this fascinating musical voyage, where every track is captivatingly intriguing, making this LP essential listening for all open-minded connoisseurs. Also featuring Moha Jamin, Group Takhala La, Ojooba Ha, Penahi, The Rebels, Group Sayeed, and Shabah. Label: Survival Research Barcode: 0634438978398

Masterful funk from the Detroit powerhouse labels of Eastbound and Westbound by Dean Rudland The film 'Standing In The Shadows Of Motown' is trying its best to reinstate one of the oldest music history myths, namely that Detroit died a sudden musical death at about the time that Berry Gordy's eye was caught by the Californian sun and a beckoning Hollywood. Fortunately someone forgot to tell Detroit. In 1969, Holland, Dozier and Holland set up their Hot Wax and Invictus outfits and Armen Boladian's Westbound Records opened up its doors as one of the most adventurous mainstream record labels to commit music to vinyl. Over the following decade it would release pop, jazz, sweet soul and some wonderfully deranged funk. Searching for new languages beyond the bitter and nihilist dialect of punk, bands like Gaz Nevada, Litfiba, CCCP, Diaframma, Neon, and many others, began spreading their message all along the Italian peninsula during the early eighties and many of the members of these bands are now some of the best musicians/producers in the Italian independent music panorama (Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, Piero Pelù/Litfiba, Bisca, etc.). 16 tracks by 16 Italian underground bands from 1982-1984: bands who faded into oblivion before ever releasing anything of their own on vinyl. It should, however, be stated that if these sixteen bands had been found on an album, EP or single, they certainly would not have lowered the average quality of albums in that genre…not even in terms of sound quality, which has actually been improved upon here (considering that the original tapes had been lying around collecting dust for at least a quarter of a century) by careful restoration. • Sacred Bones is an independent record label and publishing company based in Brooklyn, NY that started over 15 years ago in the basement of a record store and has gone on to become a critically respected label that is synonymous with forward-thinking music and culture and won the 2020 Libera Award for Label of the Year. With over 300 releases under our belt, we’ve had the distinct pleasure to work with legendary artists the likes of Mort Garson, Patti Smith, Trent Reznor, and the late Genesis P-Orridge, as well as fostered the respective music careers of film directors David Lynch, John Carpenter, and Jim Jarmusch. We’ve also released career-defining albums by newer artists like Zola Jesus, SPELLLING, Molchat Doma, Marissa Nadler, Amen Dunes, and Jenny Hval, all while retaining our cult underground through smaller curated releases from some of the best punk and experimental artists. Our fifteenth anniversary as a label will be honored with several events and an exciting vinyl repress collection but the crown jewel of this year’s celebration is the compilation Todo Muere that features beloved artists from our roster covering their favorite songs that we have released over the years. The compilation features innovative pairings, like punk stalwarts Institute covering art pop sensation SPELLLING, and matches made in heaven like Marissa Nadler’s gorgeously eerie cover of David Lynch’s already eerie song “Cold Wind Blowin.” Some songs are sister renditions with their own imaginative touch like Constant Smiles’ cover of Jenny Hval while others, like the Zola Jesus song performed by Thou, Mizmor and Emma Ruth Rundle take on entirely different genres. And while each song on the comp stands on its own as a testament to the many song writing and song performance talents housed on the Sacred Bones roster, the compilation as a whole was sequenced as a cohesive whole deserving prime placement on any record shelf. Swedish punk began in the late ‘70s and by the mid-‘80s, the small steel mill town of Fagersta had seven bands, immortalised on rare compilation The Vikings Are Coming, which is surprisingly diverse: Bizarr’s old-school punk is influenced by the Clash and SLF; Cruel Maniacs give social criticism and Crude SS’s hardcoredraws on Discharge; Rescues In Future’s speedcore is super melodic, influenced by Husker Du; Fear of War’s thrash is anti-religious and there’s more thrash from Bedrovlerz (or ‘Miserablerz’), while Ugly Squaw proffer unique power-punk humour (also making an incognito faux-reggae appearance as Rasta Boys). This edition revives the ori- ginal Swedish version released on Uproar Records in l985, giving us the full monty of this must-have anthology. Keeping our promise for fresh and active artists and projects, Geheimnis Records now brings you the second compilation of bands and artists who are taking their first musical steps and request our attention and appreciation. This time the material doesn't only focus on Greek artists. 5 are from France, Germany and Austria. Some of them have already released their first album or cassette tape, while others share their music through Bandcamp, YouTube and Soundcloud and this compilation is their first official discography. Geheimnis Records would like to thank them all for offering their music. Those who did it for the first time, those who provided a special edition of their song and those with whom we have collaborated in the past and still entrust their material to Geheiminis Records. “Hante.” is the solo project of Hélène de Thoury, the one half of the French duet “Minuit Machine”. She released her debut single on December 2014, and is about to release her debut album in the Summer of 2015. “Kristal Ann” is the voice of the Greek duet “Paradox Obscur”. She also has her own project (under her name) and the song “Killing Jokes” is written especially for this compilation, while her other song “Ashes of Hope” comes from her debut cd-album. “Monowelt” come from Berlin, Germany. Marta Raya and Daria Leere started recording songs last year and have played together since 2012. They have entrusted their soon to be completed debut album to our label. “Koma Koma” come from Vienna, Austria. Genio Revox, Davyd Mitma and Wolfgang Gray play their impressive guitars and accompany them with dark-deep vocals. This is their first release on a musical format. “Paradox Obscur” come from Rhodes Island, Greece. Kristal Ann sings and composes while her partner Toxic Razor plays, composes and experiments with many different styles and genres. “23rd Underpass” are the brain-child of Costas Andriopoulos who started the group back in 2008-2009. After some setbacks during those formative years, he found a steady vocalist in the face of Nadia Vassilopoulou and released a full-album last year. “Aga Wilk” is a female solo project from Berlin, Germany. Disco-Experimental sounds with Techno elements. The version of her song can be found only on this compilation. She is expected to release her debut album in the Spring of 2015. “Minuit Machine” come from Paris, France. Last year Hélène de Thoury and Amandine Stioui released a successful debut album. The song on this compilation is a special remix exclusive to this compilation. The person behind the project “Impersonate or Die” is an artist named Nick Stonem. He comes from Athens, Greece and his aggressive Synth-Punk songs find their way onto vinyl grooves for the first time. Last but not least, “Regressverbot” from Thessaloniki, Greece are already known from their participation in our previous “No Radar” compilation. A full-length album is on the cards and has been scheduled for release on Geheiminis Records later this year or early 2016. The compilation will be out in early July 2015, in 300 hand-numbered vinyl copies, half of them in black and half in transparent blue, including an insert with lyrics, photos and details. In that time Fashion released hundreds of records that successfully reflected, and indeed set, the changing styles and perspectives of reggae music in the UK – from UK dancehall and lovers rock in the 1980s through to the mighty rise of jungle in the second half of the 1990s. While nearly all other UK reggae labels focused on releasing Jamaican music – from the early days of Island and Trojan in the 1960s, through Island and Virgin in the 1970s, and Greensleeves that came up in the 1980s – Fashion’s focus was firmly on music produced in the UK. This unique British perspective shaped both lyrical content and musical fashion. And like all the great music labels – from Studio One to Blue Note – Fashion was able to create a significant roster of its own artists. Amazingly for a small independent label, a number of Fashion artists achieved mainstream UK chart and crossover success – including Laurel & Hardy, Smiley Culture and General Levy. But although this success was welcomed, crossing over into the mainstream was never the main focus for the label owners Chris Lane and John McGillivray (who also runs the successful Dub Vendor record shop) whose starting point was always primarily focused on producing quality music first. In the early 1980s, Fashion Records captured the rise of the emerging British dancehall scene in its ascendency. The large roster of first generation British-born artists and MCs on the label – including General Levy, Papa Face, Smiley Culture, Bionic Rhona, Asher Senator, Laurel & Hardy, Top Cat and many more – often gave a unique and sometimes humorous British lyrical perspective to Fashion releases, discussing everyday subjects, from police harassment to road safety! Throughout much of the 1980s and into the 1990s Fashion continued to release an almost relentless array of UK dancehall releases as well as continuing with lovers rock, and the occasional dub releases. Then, in the mid-90s, with the dancehall and reggae releases still coming on strong, Fashion released a superb series of early jungle tracks linking Jamaican and British MCs and dancehall artists with young jungle mixers, re-mixers and producers. By this time dancehall artists General Levy and Cutty Ranks had become the staple vocal samples of literally hundreds of white label jungle records and Fashion took advantage of this, often getting young producers to work in exchange for sample clearances – don’t get mad, get even! This album is a subjective and scatter-gun ride through some of the many unique and heavyweight tracks to come out of the Fashion stable that we love – some classics, some lesser-known, all 100% killer! The album is released on heavyweight triple vinyl (+ download code). The album comes with extensive sleevenotes featuring interviews with Fashion founders Chris Lane and John MacGillvary, as well as exclusive photography and original artwork and flyers. Two years have passed since the successful release of the first "Sows von egal" compilation. "Sowas von egal" is a collaboration between the Hamburg record label Bureau B and the Hamburg party series Damaged Goods where they present rare, obscure synth & wave discs from the early 1980s which absolutely deserve to heard. It was clear from the outset that “Sowas von egal 2” would need to scale similar heights of excellence as its predecessor, featuring carefully selected, sought-after, danceable tunes. In contrast to the first volume, most of the acts here were only active in the early 1980s and have not released any records since then. The tape artists were particularly invested in the DIY ethic – as is often apparent in their sound aesthetics and the unbridled energy which has lost none of its intensity today. Their art was seldom – if ever – tempered by commercial considerations or sales strategies. A year in the making: “Sowas von egal 2” is a worthy successor to part 1!
