Clive Culbertson was bassist in Irish band Sweat/ No Sweat who put out a couple of Thin Lizzy inspired power pop singles, on the excellent Rip Off Records, in the late 70's. In the early 80's Clive went solo and released this infectious power pop two sider on Rip Off Records. Two absolute killer tracks on this reissue, with "Time To Kill" and "Busy Signal". Harsh and speedy Powerpop! Very rare powerpop & punk gem! (Mad Butcher Records)
  • "Pestilent Planet is the debut 7 track album from Berlin’s Clock of Time and it’s released a mere 8 months after they played their first gig. The band comes fully formed and up to speed but that is not surprising considering some of the members other projects such as Diat, Vexx and Useless Eaters. Pestilent Planet is a stunning statement of intent. The sound is a driving mix of post punk like Jeopardy era The Sound, and that classic 80’s death rock that Vex and Arch Criminals perfected. It’s instant and urgent especially tracks like 'Rotten Master' which has a fuller Joy Division esque vibe especially in the skeletal guitar hook. It will be love on first listen." Michigan-based grindcore cult heroes Cloud Rat return with Pollinator, the band's most intense and blistering recordings to date.Over the past ten years, Cloud Rat has established itself as one of the most compelling bands in the underground. Over a staggering number of releases – four full-length albums, eleven EPs and splits, a live album, and various other comps, in one decade – the Michigan band has made a name for itself via sheer emotion and musical freedom.NPR Music called Cloud Rat's 2013 album, Moksha, "a feral, fearsome and fearless piece of work." Noisey described a live show in 2015 with these words: "Cloud Rat is one of those rare bands whose music connects instantly, painfully – you feel the words, the riffs, and the all-consuming cacophony deep within the marrow of your bones, vibrating out into a hostile world."Emerging from the space where hardcore punk spirals into grindcore, Cloud Rat is that and so much more. The band knows no limits and incorporates influences from across the map – black metal, noise, doom, goth, folk, and beyond – all while retaining its realness and urgency. Cloud Rat have taken grind to the next level on Pollinator, and it's vicious. Label: Artoffact Records – AOF282 Barcode: 628070628285

There's certainly that "crust" touch to this band, what with their leanings towards a driving tempo extremely reminiscent of "Victim Of A Bomb Raid" era ANTI-CIMEX and just a touch of a more serious side of SORE THROAT and faster/thrashier DISCLOSE...now you know something, another high quality crust /d-beat release. Comes with nice lyricsheet and is housed in an inside/ out 350 gr. cover. Label: Power It Up

Some records so perfectly capture an artist at a critical point in their creativity, and make such an impact, that they become not just synonymous with the band, but an essential piece of music history. Such is the case with Shock Troops, the album that not only became Cock Sparrer’s most acclaimed record, but a defining moment for Oi!, punk rock, and underground music in general! Originally released by Razor Records in 1983, Shock Troops proved to consist of song after song which would each become anthems of the burgeoning Oi! scene and far beyond. From the opening of “Where Are They Now?” on through “Take ‘Em All,” “We’re Coming Back,” all the way to the closing chords of “Out On An Island,” there isn’t a song in the bunch that any self respecting punk rocker can’t shout along to. These working class anthems are just as vital today, as proven by the crowds of beloved fans worldwide that continue to go wild at Sparrer’s live shows, where Shock Troops tracks still make up the heart of their setlists. Remixed and remastered, this includes all of the tracks that were recorded for their debut with Decca, only uncut with all the count-ins and banter in between. Previously released on CD by Captain Oi! as Rarities, this record is like a snapshot of being in the studio with COCK SPARRER during the very early days. As would be expected with such an amazing band, many of these songs have held strong through decades of new music and continue to reign as many of the “hits” they still perform today. Greatest Hits Vol. 1" is the first album by the Punk/Oi! legends Cockney Rejects, originally released in 1980. Despite the title, it is not a greatest hits compilation. Though they didn’t get around to (allegedly) naming the genre of Oi! until their second album, working class football hooligans Cockney Rejects went a long way towards defining the sound. The raw street punk on the cheekily titled "Greatest Hits Vol. 1" dismisses English punk’s art-schooled class of ‘77 to embrace the everyday Brit who drinks a pint or two while watching his favorite football team. • Unheard Rejects 1979-1981 is a collection of demo tracks recorded between 1979 and 1981 by the mighty Cockney Rejects. 12 songs from the first era, their first steps inside the 77 punk movement that them and others bands like UK Subs or Sham 69 helped to build. Here you can find the rudest Cockney Rejects songs with some The Clash's influences in some reggae riffs but without losing energy or sounding soft. This record was originally released under the Wonderful World label and now Beat Generation. Limited edition LP, 500 copies only. (Beat Generation Records)

Victorialand, Cocteau Twins’ fourth album, was released in spring 1986. The largely acoustic, non-percussive album was made with Elizabeth and Robin, while Simon was working on This Mortal Coil's second album. Dif Juz label mate Richard Thomas guested on tabla and saxophone. The Guardian said "It’s not quite ambient, but it’s definitely not rock’n’roll even by the Cocteaus’ standards, building on the moments of guitar shimmer from the previous years’ EPs, while also stripping back at points to where it’s nothing but a Guthrie guitar line and Fraser’s voice." 140g black vinyl, audio remastered from the original analogue tapes and with art faithful to their original 23 Envelope designs. Underneath 2020 release, the fourth album from the Pittsburgh-based metalcore band. LIMITED Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 release from the Grammy nominated band Code Orange. Underneath is heralded by the LP's title track, offering a glimpse into the reconfigured and urgent compositions of a band at their most ambitious. Underneath finds Code Orange once again confounding expectations, piling element on element, and towering towards the sky. Rattling drum loops give way to bursts of rage as "Underneath" transforms into something colossal, daring, and resilient, setting the tone for one of the year's most exhilarating heavy records. The COLD I trip started 10 years ago. At 2016 with great joy we released their first full length "Κακος άνεμος" and at 2018 we continued with their second LP "Ανθη γκρεμού" a co-production with We don't fight records from Larissa. Unfortunately at 2019 their drummer Christos left the band for personal reasons and he was replaced by Vaggelis. The current line up is Fotis (vocals), Aggelos (guitar), Dimitris (bass) and Vaggelis (drums). With the new line up at 2021, the band stormed the studio to record their third full length (Μέρες νεκρές) which continues the quest at their beloved post punk/cold wave genres. In my humble opinion this record, finished at 2022, is their best and finds them at their most mature phase. Its not a secret that we are very happy that the band trusted us for the vinyl release, not a big surprise though, our co-op is based on our long lived friendship. Over the last twenty years COMEBACK KID have been hailed as one of the major counterparts when it has come to shaping and pioneering both the Canadian and international modern punk and hardcore sound and scene alike. After having released their first demo in 2002, before quickly drawing the attention of Facedown Records for the release of their debut, “Turn It Around”, the last twenty-one years have seen the band produce some of the most acclaimed records within the genre. Signing to Victory Records for 2005’s career defining records, “Wake The Dead” and “Broadcasting”, the five piece have undoubtedly over the years been able to balance a DIY ethos, dependability, and genre defining musicianship which has broken down the boundaries of hardcore, and transcended the genre onto a global stage. With a back catalogue that would produce some of the most seismic and influential anthems to transverse across both punk and hardcore, 2017’s signing to Nuclear Blast Records (HATEBREED, SLAYER) saw the release of powerhouse heavy hitter, “Outsider”. Arguably noted as a record and turning point in both sound and the band’s career, this release would be a definitive moment in pioneering a new path of which an entire generation of new artists within the genre would follow, thus solidifying COMEBACK KID as both major headliners, and forefathers to set the course for what it means to be one of the most adverse punk bands of the 21st century. “We’re a hardcore band, but we don’t feel like we belong to any particular sect of that,” states Neufeld alongside band members, Jeremy Hiebert (guitar), Stu Ross (guitar), Chase Brenneman (bass), and Loren Legare (drums). “We don’t want to be limited in any sense and prefer to work on our own terms.” Now one of the most volatile leaders within the global heavy music community and continuing to break down boundaries and champion new territories, COMEBACK KID’s seventh studio album, “Heavy Steps” is solidifying the band’s revolutionary status. Returning to their roots, literally, by recording in Winnipeg and co-producing with John Paul Peters (CANCER BATS, PROPAGHANDI) as well as collaboration with prominent mixer Will Putney (KNOCKED LOOSE, EVERY TIME I DIE), “Heavy Steps” is no longer a prerequisite to realizing COMEBACK KID’s influence on modern punk, but a delivery of pure anthemic chaos, sheer speed and force. It is a statement of intent. “It’s about hitting the ground running, not knowing when or where the ground could break from underneath you.” summarizes Neufeld. “It's heavy steps on thin ice. Heavy steps on hollow ground.” (Nuclear Blast Records)

  • Seven scratchy punk gems channeling a thing in which disaffected youth and energetic misfits alike can rally against the snow-soaked blandness of the Illinoian city they inhabit. Running the gamut from the proto-punk mayhem of DV8 to the early hardcore toughness of The Effigies and from the sinister outsider art of The Tyrades to the comparatively sophisticated Plasmatics. A thrilling statement of middle-finger intensity and rule smashing iconoclasm. • Formed in 2009 Constant Mongrel begun as a two piece (Tom Ridgewell and Hugh Young) creating immediate and at times improvised songs in an old dishevelled laundry in inner city Melbourne. Inspired by the more flamboyant side of protopunk such as Electric Eels and Chrome, over the next few years the band added members Amy Hill (bass) and Andrew Murray (guitar) building upon their intense sound and developing a unique humour. Consisting of members from Terry, Woollen Kits, Nun and Taco Leg, Constant Mongrel has several previous releases on RIP Society Records and Siltbreeze Records.
After three years since their last release Constant Mongrel have developed a diverse collection of songs gradually over time. Recorded in the summer of 2017 in a studio, produced by Tom Hardisty and Mastered by Mikey Young, ‘Living In Excellence’ brings a more formed sound and aesthetic with striking riffs and catchy rolling bass over an often unhinged, vibrant rhythm section. Added for this on particular tracks is a fried, effected saxophone with warm synths and analogue sounds added to enhance the LP’s thoughtful textures.
The new record has a sharper British Post Punk expression reminiscent of the usual suspects in Wire, Blitz, The Mob, Siekiera and The Fall, while also exploring elements found outside of the genre from Les Rallizes Dénudés to Youth Crew Hardcore to Country music and beyond, there's greater depth and sensibility found amongst the angst.
James Vinciguerra (of Total Control fame) designed the cover which is a perfect depiction of this modern day punk record with its sharpness, colour and feeling of slight discomfort.
The bands lyrics and themes vary in subject matter. Songs of certain romance, the monotonousness of self-loathing, the joy of a riot, atrocity of western religion, an abundance of a fresh modern fascism, white-middle-class-self-entitled guilt and the beauty in misinterpretation. But behind every idea the tongue remains continually in cheek as the bands humor seeps through and prevails in its sound.
The truth is that none of us are truly Living In Excellence and this false mantra is prominent throughout a record that is over flowing with character, bleak satire and grunt.
‘Living In Excellence’ will be available on LP and digitally through La Vida Es Un Mus in Europe and North America and Anti Fade in Australia from Friday 21 September. Label: La Vida Es Un Mus Records

After the demo-single tape we released in march 2020 it was finally time for a vinyl output of this great band from Murcia and here you have it. Despite all the problems and setbacks generated by covid-related restrictions plus other complications, which fully hit the band’s recording schedule, the vinyl debut of CONTEMPT is finally out! Here we have here 8 tracks of some of the heaviest, meanest and musically richest OI! played nowadays: guitar driven, epic, melodic yet hard-hitting, with even a metal-ish edge and some Rock influences. This feels like an iron fist in a velvet glove: Heavy as fuck yet gentle in the delivery. Very powerful tunes with hand-crafted guitar arrangements which help creating an overall momumental feel, a demolishing rythm section with perfect sounding drums and bass distortion and an amazing vocal delivery perfectly pitched, rough and yet clear with lyrics full of pride without stupid prejudices, about personal issues, historical references, love for their land without being a stupid knucklehead, socio-economic troubles. Inspirational, menacing, prideful down-to-earth lyrics. The first time i listened to these songs my jaw just dropped, i could feel the attention to detail, the level of effort and commitment in the creative process and, in each consecutive listen, discovering little details that just made my love for this band grow and grow. I just feel very lucky to be able to release such powerful and significant (at least for me) music. (Mendeku Diskak)

After nearly 20 years, such a glorious run of releases and a live show that’s gone from flailing kids flailing against kids to legendary exorcism for both band and audience — watch the pit during “The Saddest Day” and tell me it’s not the closest thing to a near-religious experience atheists will ever have — CONVERGE could be forgiven for releasing an endeavour that was simply good, okay, just maintaining their status quo. After all, it’s much easier to win the title than retain it, and even the greats slip from time to time. Axe To Fall (CONVERGE's third release for indie institution Epitaph Records), however, is no such relapse. True to themselves and their art, as always, no matter the cost, Axe To Fall continues to push relentlessly forward, much like a shark that needs to always keep swimming to survive. Where No Heroes was a refinement and broadening of hostilities declared on previous assaults such as Jane Doe, Axe To Fall returns to the more AmRep-inspired noisecore abrasions of You Fail Me while also updating and making vital the thrash influences that defined earlier CONVERGE efforts (Caring and Killing, Petitioning the Empty Sky) and retaining the hardcore hostilities and frantic pace so vital to their foundation. Of course, the experimental anguish and pleading for salvation are no mere sharpening of past knives but yet another leap forward in an existence full of them. From frenetic, frantic opening track “Dark Horse,” which is a downhill avalanche of ferocity culminating in one of the heaviest riffs CONVERGE have ever laid listeners to waste with, to “Worms Will Feed,” an ominous exploration that ebbs and flows, building upon crashing then retreating waves of music and lyrical condemnations (“the worms will find a way, the rats will find a way”), to the barely restrained chaos of “Losing Battle” and Axe To Fall’s sanguine, beautiful, climatic seven-minute-plus dénouement, “Wretched Word,” Axe To Fall isn’t just another mere “release” or record from spoiled kids discovering metal and crying about how difficult life is in the suburbs. Axe To Fall is a nearly two-decade culmination of hard roads travelled and unwanted, but necessary, lessons learned, of prayers for salvation lost to the wind and too-fleeting nights where everything was still, if only for a moment, consumed by morning’s inevitable advance, of crushing defeats and the realization that the war only ends when we do, and it’s not one we can win, merely endure. Once again recorded by CONVERGE's resident engineering genius Kurt Ballou, whose God City Recording Studios has become the Mecca for aggressive music’s elite to congregate at for assistance realizing their sonic sermons (from Trap Them and Genghis Tron to Torche and Buried Inside), Axe To Fall is as sonically dense a tapestry and punishing a release as Converge have ever conceived, once again perfectly echoing musically Bannon’s heart-ripped-out-of-chest-but-still-beating lyrics. It’s the summation of experiences learned working on records such as No Heroes and You Fail Me, also recorded by Ballou at God City, and it surpasses them. But even while CONVERGE and Axe To Fall stand alone — as Bannon is so fond of saying live: “we’re born into this world alone, and we die alone, so make your mark while you’re here” — they’ve never forgotten the core values of the hardcore scene they were raised in, and raised others on: community. Axe To Fall is CONVERGE's most collaborative effort to date, even while paradoxically sounding as focused as ever. Axe To Fall features the likes of John Pettibone (Undertow, Himsa), Ulf Cederlund (Entombed, Disfear), Cave In’s Steve Brodsky, Adam McGrath and J.R. Connors, F. Sean Martin (Hatebreed), George Hirsch (Blacklisted) and Genghis Tron’s Mookie Singerman, Hamilton Jordan and Michael Sochynsky, amongst others, contributing to its dense sonic soundscapes. Even Steve Von Till (of legendary star destroyers Neurosis) graces the record on “Cruel Bloom,” an ignoring of musical confines that sounds akin to something Tom Waits and Mr. Bungle might concoct if trapped in a watering hole on the fringes of Purgatory right before the end-time hit. Something Bannon said to me years ago during our very first interview has stuck with me ever since: that hardcore needs to be about something more than bad poetry and Slayer riffs. And that search for and desire to be something more have defined CONVERGE since their inception, and continue to propel them and their art ever-forward. Through sheer hard work, perseverance and an unwavering commitment to artistic integrity Converge have risen from humble beginnings to become that mercurial and so very rare “something more.” Axe To Fall continues their reign, long may it last. • Engineered by Kurt Ballou at the band's longtime studio/practice spot God City, "No Heroes" shows the band exploring new sonic textures while still retaining the palpable energy they've become known for. While the album blazes out of the gate with the aptly titled "Heartache," songs like "Orphaned" and the intense "Plagues" prove that breakneck speed and heaviness aren't necessarily interrelated, and when Converge lower the tempo, they're able to effortlessly transcend traditional notions of heaviness. Devotees of "Jane Doe" will also be blown away by epic tracks like the nine-minute "Grim Heart/Black Rose," a doom masterpiece which features guest vocals from Only Living Witness' Jonah Jenkins. From Bannon's captivating artwork and introspective lyrics to Ballou's masterful production techniques, Converge's artistic vision has always separated the band from their peers, and "No Heroes" is no exception. Simply a great album. Label: Deathwish Inc. Barcode: 0791689665528

The group features Ian MacKaye, his Fugazi bandmate Joe Lally, and his Evens bandmate Amy Farina. On this self-titled debut each of the musicians share singing responsibilities. The lead track, Clean Kill, is a deceptively warm-sounding song about political corruption. It’s a clean kill, but it’s not clean, the band members sing in unison on the chorus. It’s unmistakably the work of Ian MacKaye, probably closer to The Evens than to any of his other projects, but with a bit more of that Fugazi-esque grit in the mix. It’s a very cool first track. Before Corrosion Of Conformity would join the family of groove-truckin’ bands like Crowbar and Kyuss, the Raleigh, NC, unit were just three hardcore kids pioneering punk’s crossover with thrash-metal. Their second record, 1985’s Animosity, is a 26-minute blast that unites Metallica’s flaming-spear riffage, the Bad Brains’ cartoonish zip and the slow chug sections of Black Flag’s My War — but with an even more overt reverence for Sabbathian fuzz, hinting at CoC’s sludge metamorphosis in the following decade. It was originally released on October 25, 1985. The album cover art was done by artist Pushead. Label: Metal Blade Barcode: 039841407822
