The Hermitts are a band from the UK. Purveying glumcore fuzznuggets that are mostly in tune, they were formed in the long, tepid summer lockdown of 2021. They attempt to follow the long and fine British musical tradition of melodic parochial miserableness. Their songs have been compared to the likes of Guided by Voices, the Jesus and Mary Chain and various obscure shoegazing acts we're not quite sure ever existed. The Hermitts are the personal project of Matt Hicks, and if you remember his name, you are right as he was member of Horowitz, a band gave us some great songs like "The Drunks are Writing Punk Songs" and albums like "Popkids of the World Unite!". Out of stockCrawling from beneath the streets of New York City is the brand new project from familiar faces, LETHAL. Bringing together UK influence with NYHC influence...reminding me of bands such as Crucifix, Sacrilege NYHC and the Nausea track off the Rev comp. Their bleak view of the world is displayed in the five tracks that make up their debut seven inch. Catch them on the road this summer as they play many of the fests in the northeast with plans to tour in the fall. Label: 11PM Records

Blazing fast, Chitarrino-Punk from Parma, Italy. If you enjoy Shitty Limits, Youth Avoiders, or Social Cirkle, you will love this new record. You might have seen them on tour recently in the US with Judy and the Jerks, Feral + others, or you may have been paying attention to the band since their inception in 2017. Either way, they continue to push punk forward in Italy and worldwide. Label: 11PM Records

Out of stockGenerations in hardcore move quickly. The scene changes constantly, and yet there is always a group of bands uninterested in the current trends. Some people just want to write aggressive underground music and bring people together. Call it what you want — old school, meat and potatoes, or, most recently, democore — Grand Scheme, a punk hardcore band from the DMV, are that band for this generation. They’ve done everything you need to do, like release tapes and go on tour, and nothing you don’t, like collect corporate sponsorships or beg for your attention. Their new 7”, Numbers Game, is being released by 11 PM Records and features eight unifying songs and that’s it. Label: 11PM Records

Furious militaristic hardcore that sounds like napalm falling on a bomb factory. “Defcon” twists the screws on a world where lasting peace is a fantasy and people are in constant battle with inner demons and external devils. At best we can hope for brief reprieves between clashes. Man will not survive this endeavor. In fact, neither did P.S.Y.W.A.R. as they are no longer an active entity. R.I.P. Label: Iron Lung Records

Southern Lord is honored to be releasing a remastered reissue of the 3rd and final BL’AST! studio album from 80’s: “Manic Ride”. Originally issued in 1989 as “Take The Manic Ride” and released by SST Records. Following down the same path as the previous BL’AST! revisionist reissues via Southern Lord: “Expression of Power (debut album) & “Blood” (second album), “Manic Ride" has been sonically enhanced with an aggressive remaster from Brad Boatright. Visceral, brash re-design via a gatefold jacket! TAKE THE RIDE FOR LIFE! Guitarist Mike Niedermyer has this to say "The release of Manic Ride is essential to finish the history of past BL'AST! releases. It displays how off the beaten path BL'AST! is and always has been. The music and lyrics does not tread lightly. We're grateful to have Manic Ride's affiliation w/ Rat Sound/Dave Rat, SST Records and Southern Lord and for all of our friends, fans and family, as well as the BL'AST! blood brotherhood. For this to be released in our fortieth year as a band is truly amazing." Black as well as purple vinyl in a lovely gatefold sleeve with a rad image in the inner gatefold. Out of stockExtortion blew much of the Australian underground out of the water in the mid-late 00’s with a slew of ferocious cuts Extortion concreted themselves as a torchbearer for antisocial music. Waiting for this new record to drop was nothing out of the ordinary, even without pandemic lockdowns they are a band who more often than not appear to be on some sort of hiatus – emerging suddenly to bewilder with speed and bile which is exactly what they’ve done again with ‘Seething’. With an added grinding rash to these blistering pusheads (I’m convinced you can hear shards flying from the drum kit) there’s the sardonic outsider wretchedness, trademark slithering tremolo punk & bassment groove, bludgeoning sludge and cult Australian film samples that fans have come to yearn for. Clocking the speedo with fifteen tracking in under ten minutes; this is a lean cut of leg that exposes the band at their most belligerent Australian version released by the band. Label: Self Released

Out of stock2022 was certainly a memorable year for punk albums, with a number of releases I would consider to be new instant classics. Coming in at the final hour, the ANNIHILATED unleashed Submission to Annihilation, one of the year’s latest and greatest. Full-throated and raw, the ANNIHILATED play a similar strain of D-beat hardcore to BOOTLICKER, with a vocal delivery that has been correctly compared to Damaged-era Rollins. Lyrically, topics cover class warfare (“Divide and Conquer,” “Bootstraps”), widespread apathy (“Normality”), and the hell of substance abuse (“Vice Grip”), themes that are all uniquely modern and unfortunately timeless. Add to that the artwork from drummer Nicky Rat and mixing by Jonah Falco (whose seal of approval is always a sign of quality) and that it’s self-released(!), and it simply cannot be understated: the ANNIHILATED have ticked every box and delivered their own instant classic. Reviewer Eric Anderson Label Annihilate Music Issue MRR #476 • January 2023 Professionally manufactured cassette with pro-printed 8 panel J-card. Label: Heat Reaction
