Everything Sucks is the fifth studio album by American punk rock band the Descendents, released in 1996 through Epitaph Records. It was their first album of new studio material since 1987's All, after which singer Milo Aukerman had left the band to pursue a career in biochemistry. Out of stockOriginally released in 1985, their eighth album is one of The Fall's most loved releases and is often hailed as one of the greatest albums of the 1980s. Drawing from the well of primal rock 'n' roll, the band play with muscular spontaneity and inspiration to create music that still sounds unique and challenging, especially against today's anodyne imitations of rock and 'guitar music'. Out of stockDead Can Dance’s second album, Spleen And Ideal (1985), saw them experiment more with instrumentation, abandoning guitars in favour of cello, trombone and timpani. Widely acclaimed, there was now a richness of uni cation between voice and music, lyrics and structure, showing they had a concrete sense of the aural ideal they were striving towards. It’s title was taken from Spleen et Idéal, a collection of poems by 18th century French poet Charles Baudelaire. Label: 4AD Records Barcode: 0652637362312

Its sleeve a sketch by Brendan Perry, depicting “primal man deprived of perception, standing within the confines of a garden containing a fountain and trees laden with fruit... a Blakean universe in which mankind can only redeem itself, can only rid itself of blindness, through the correct interpretation of signs and events that permeate the fabric of nature's laws.” This new expanded version sees the EP faithfully pressed on to one piece of a vinyl at 45rpm with a second disc being added, compiling both of the band’s sessions for John Peel, recorded in the same time period. After a year of extensive touring in support of 2015’s The Agent Intellect, Protomartyr returned to their practice space in a former optician's office in Southwest Detroit. Inspired by The Raincoats' Odyshape, Mica Levi's orchestral compositions, and a recent collaboration with post-punk legends The Pop Group, for Rough Trade's 40th anniversary, the band began writing new music that artfully expanded on everything they’d recorded up until that point. The result is Relatives In Descent, Protomartyr's fourth full-length and Domino debut. Though not a concept album, it presents twelve variations on a theme: the unknowable nature of truth, and the existential dread that often accompanies that unknowing. This, at a moment when disinformation and garbled newspeak have become a daily reality. Label: Domino Barcode: 0887828040216

February 2020 marks the tenth anniversary of the release of Gil Scott-Heron's final studio album "I'm New Here", a set that was later brilliantly reworked by Jamie XX in 2011 ("We're New Here"). To celebrate the album's tenth birthday, XL Recordings has decided to offer up "We're New Again", a fresh "reinterpretation" of the Richard Russell produced set by contemporary jazz hero and beat-maker Maya McCraven. His vision is loose, languid, deep and jazzy, with languid jazz drumming, tight hip-hop beats, soft-touch instrumentation, liquid jazz solos and funk-fuelled basslines combining beneath Scott-Heron's gravelly spoken word vocals. It's an inspired re-invention all told and one fully in keeping with the essence of Scott-Heron's own work. In other words, it's a must-have. Out of stockDomino present Henryk Górecki: Symphony No. 3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) performed by Beth Gibbons and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Krzysztof Penderecki. The performance took place at The National Opera Grand Theatre in Warsaw on November 29th 2014, and was part of an evening of programming that also featured Jonny Greenwood's (Radiohead) 48 Responses To Polymorphia and the world premiere of Bryce Dessner's (The National) Réponse Lutosławski. Following an invitation to collaborate at the concert, Beth Gibbons undertook an intense preparation process, including tackling the challenge of learning the original text (and the emotional weight it carries) without speaking the mother language. Typical to Beth though - the elusive yet iconic frontwoman of one of the most important British bands of the last two decades - the challenge was met and exceeded. Her performance alongside the maestro Penderecki has been hailed as triumphant, as you can see and hear on this release. The film, was produced by the National Audiovisual Institute, Poland and directed by Michał Merczyński. LP - Heavyweight Black Vinyl with 12x12” Booklet Insert. Label: Domino Barcode: 0887828039517

"When punk stares into the abyss, this is what stares back." - Pitchfork New York's RASPBERRY BULBS (featuring members of BONE AWL and RORSCHACH,) make their Relapse Records debut with their highly anticipated new album, "Before the Age of Mirrors". Forever defying the conventions of underground music, RASPBERRY BULBS continue to push the envelope via their subversive take on occult Punk and Black Metal. Through maniacal lyricism, raw guitar snarls channeled through gritty, 4 track recordings, and a wall of distortion, RASPBERRY BULBS suffocate the listener every step of the way. RASPBERRY BULBS emphasize the volatile, confrontational attitudes of Punk with the discordant sounds of Lo-Fi Black Metal and inspirational fever dreams found only in weird fiction. In the band's own words, "parts paranoia, anger, and insane humor to satisfy the most cynical minds, "Before the Age of Mirrors" was crafted for the times where we desperately look for a way forward and we seem, at this dazzling stage, almost prepared to step through the mirror." TOUCHÉ AMORÉ has been burrowing through angst, alienation, cancer, and heartbreak throughout four adored studio albums. After over a decade of working through darkness, the band?s gorgeously gruff fifth album, Lament, finds the light at the end of the tunnel. Through 11 songs, Touché Amoré looks back at its past and uses hard-won optimism to point its fans toward light, and love. For the follow up to the their critically acclaimed 2016 release, Stage Four, Touché Amoré have opted to get out of their comfort zone and work with a new producer, the famously demanding Ross Robinson (Slipknot, Korn, At the Drive-In). Both Robinson and Touché Amoré are known for their trademark intensity. "I believe there was an unspoken learning curve between Ross?s methods and the understanding that I?ve poured myself into the words and mean every one of them," vocalist Jeremy Bolm says. Robinson agreed to a rare one-song "test recording" last summer, which resulted in the song "Deflector", released last fall. In the end, "Deflector" proved the producer/band combo was undoubtedly the right fit. Robinson made Bolm read out all of his confessional lyrics to his bandmates to make sure they understood their emotional content. Making Bolm read those lyrics turned out to be what helped make their emotions palpable in the final recording. With its ruminations on the draining human connection ("I?ll test the water/I won?t dive right in/That?s too personal/I?m too delicate"), Lament?s first helping is a sharp intro to the album?s themes. Lament is their masterstroke. Its longer, structured songs soar with a ferocious but delicate musicality and powerful, gut-wrenching storytelling that smashes previous heights. Yet as much as the band has grown and matured via everything they?ve endured, it?s perhaps equally impressive how they?ve managed to stay true to their core? In true `Ex fashion', If Your Mirror Breaks picks up where 27 Passports left off, and erupts like a musical short story collection, a ten-part series of surrealist daydreams, calls to action, ominous warnings and bursts of vitality tapped into the pulse of time. What time could be more appropriate to release this album in, as the current one? Arnold de Boer, Katherina Bornefeld, Andy Moor and Terrie Hessels once again impress with their trademark urgency and creativity. Starting from a staccato Walt Whitman poem from 1861 and wrapping things up with the unstoppable, joyful thrust of "Great!", the new album by The Ex is equal parts exploration and determination, with wistful shades accentuating their live wire intensity, unpredictability and sheer determination. Yes, there are moments of doubt and insecurity ("reality is shifting / there is no escape"), of distress ("I get desperate / I feel the wide washing of death"), but time and again, perseverance wins. As Bornefeld sings so aptly in her beautiful contribution "Wheel": "New life force unfolds for those who flow / with the song of their souls." De Boer has a striking way with images. Walls speak, spiders write and turning into an apartment block becomes a life goal. Imagination and language become a refuge, but also weapons in times of loss and division. When you're not afraid to question yourself and realise, in James Baldwin's words, that "You could be that person / Be that monster, be that cop", you might find a way out of it. It's the way we interact that defines us. If Your Mirror Breaks is an album that brims with passion and commitment, with three guitars, voice and drums ready to revitalize, or overthrow, the old formulas. It is rugged and fierce, connecting the dots between the swaying waltz of "Circuit Breaker" and the overflowing lava energy of "In The Rain". Steve Albini, whom the album is dedicated to, would have approved. With music (and words) as committed, poetic, exciting and imaginative as this, The Ex has made one for the ages. A work that reflects the conflicting ideas and moods of its time, while pushing forward, convinced there's always a more viable alternative around the corner. It's a process that never loses its thrilling buzz. - Guy Peters, Geraardsbergen, 2025. Label: EX Records Barcode: 0718752235617

Scrabbling at the Lock is the first of two albums by Dutch punk band The Ex in collaboration with avant-garde cellist Tom Cora. It is also the first of The Ex's studio albums to feature the work of then Dog Faced Hermans guitarist Andy Moor, who has remained in the band ever since. With the release of their album Joggers and Smoggers, The Ex were developing further collaborations with musicians from around the world, including New York-based cellist Tom Cora. In the midst of launching their six-part record subscription series and organizing tours on North American, the Netherlands, and Great Britain, The Ex and Cora spent a week in Dolf Planteijdt's studio at the end of January 1991. The 12 songs were mixed in February and slated for a release during a break from tour that summer. The album features heavy interplay of two guitars, bass, cello and more prominent female vocals. Dean McFarlane of Allmusic wrote that by this time the band "were starting to experiment in new tangents that incorporated the influence of folk and free improvisation." He found the album to "explore the delicate modalities of European folk." The Wire described the collaboration as "unusual even by their far-reaching standards." The track "Batium" is an adaption of a piece by late Turkish musician Ismet Siral while the track "Hidegen Fújnak a Szelek" ("Cold Winds Are Blowing") is a cover of a song originally written by Hungarian folk music band Muzsikas. Another version of the album's second song, the Hungarian folk anthem "Hidegen Fújnak a Szelek", sung by The Ex's drummer, Katerina Boerfield, had been previously released as a single without Tom Cora, included on the A-side the third 7" in The Ex's 6 album. The album's lead track, "State of Shock," would later be recorded for the Dutch language album Een Rondje Holland featuring The Ex backed by a 20-piece orchestra. Release The photo of the 1895 Montparnasse derailment depicted on the cover of Scrabbling at the Lock Scrabbling at the Lock was released in August 1991 midway between the first and second half of The Ex's 6 singles series. The album's title was adopted from a text by songwriter Peter Hammill whose song "A Motor-Bike In Afrika" The Ex had covered on their album Aural Guerrilla. Scrabbling at the Lock's cover photo depicted the Montparnasse derailment, a dramatic trainwreck that occurred in France in October 1895, and the record was the first of The Ex's album's to include only one insert: a single, large, black-and-white poster. The band arranged a concert that coincided with Cora being in Europe, held at Amsterdam's Paradiso club, to celebrate both the album's release and the band's 500th live performance (though it was actually their 499th). Fontaines D.C. release their highly-anticipated fourth album, Romance. Released via XL Recordings, Romance is the band’s first album with producer James Ford and is without doubt their most assured, inventive and sonically adventurous record yet. It’s set to build on the success of the Dublin-made, now London-based band’s acclaimed 2022 album Skinty Fia, which reached number 1 in the UK and Irish album charts and saw the band receiving a host of accolades including “International Group of the Year” at the 2023 Brit Awards. Heralding Fontaines D.C.’s latest creative (r)evolution is the explosive lead single “Starburster”. Inspired by a panic attack lead singer Grian Chatten suffered in London’s St Pancras station, the song is punctuated by sharp feral intakes of breath. Its propulsive beat and unrelenting lyrics establish self-destruction as fantasy before a brief moment of sobering clarity when the drums fall away and Chatten moves from spitting, almost-rap into an almost-psalm, his baritone rich and dreamy. It’s accompanied by a cinematic music video from director Aube Perrie (Megan Thee Stallion, Harry Styles, The Hives) that captures the song’s cathartic intensity to brilliant effect. Romance is Fontaines D.C.s most ambitious, expansive record yet, its 11 tracks constellating ideas that have been percolating among Grian Chatten (vocals), Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan (bass), and Tom Coll (drums) since they released Skinty Fia in 2022. These ideas crystalised while touring the U.S. and Mexico with Arctic Monkeys as the five band members shared music and found a throughline with artists that deftly build out their own sprawling creative worlds: the attitude and aesthetic sheen of artists like Shygirl and Sega Bodega, the bolshy sonic palettes of hip hop and heavy metal, Mos Def, A$AP Ferg, OutKast and Korn. They had time apart to build more singular visions for what future music could be: O’Connell went to Spain’s Castile-La Mancha and later became a new father, while Chatten spent time in LA, and Deegan in Paris. They laid deeper roots in London. Each member spent time pushing their boundaries – experimental riffs, chord progressions, and far-flung lyrical references without intentions for a record. After wrapping up the US arena tour in Autumn 2023, they spent a month writing together again, three weeks of pre-production in a North London studio, and a month in a chateau close to Paris, sleeping among studio equipment, completely immersed. The sonic evolution of the band, who bared their teeth in early records with antagonistic punk sensibilities, is an ascent into grungier breaks, dystopian electronica, hip-hop percussion, and dreamy Slowdive-esque textures that may surprise fans. The shoegaze touchpoints first pressed on Skinty Fia unfold on Romance like a purpling bruise. But any “retro aesthetic”, as Chatten describes it, is left behind. Reflecting on the impending release, Chatten says, “We say things on this record we’ve wanted to say for a long time. I never feel like it's over, but it’s nice to feel lighter.” The fantasy is felt for better or worse, and Fontaines D.C. welcome either end of oblivion. Label: XL Recordings Barcode: 0191404143629

After Buzzcocks disbanded in 1981, frontman Pete Shelley teamed up with Martin Rushent, embracing the producer’s newly acquired synths and drum machines to rework his tracks, crafting a new blueprint for electronic pop music in the process. A production blueprint that would soon achieve massive mainstream success with another Rushent production; Dare by the Human League. Across both LPs, Shelley combines his urgent songwriting with chugging synthesisers and electronic percussion creating records that straddle rock radio and London’s nascent club scene. These albums sound as fresh today as they did upon release, but the innovative nature of Homosapien and XL-1 has been overlooked. Overshadowed by the influence of Pete’s former band and by the Human League’s runaway hit, not helped by the BBC banning the ‘Homosapien’ single on homophobic grounds (though it became an electro LGBT anthem in gay dance clubs). Domino reissues both albums as standalone double LPs, housed in gatefold sleeves with new liner notes by Clinton Heylin. "It is like a dialogue between me and myself. "Originally released in 1982, History Is What's Happening features one of the most harrowing title/cover art combinations in recent memory. What at first glance looks like a firing squad is, upon closer inspection, a concentration camp orchestra. On their second album, The Ex advance into a distinctly more post-punk style: textural guitar shards and tumbling motorik drumming with Bas Masbeck's thunderous bass shouldering much of the melodic load. Railing against political duplicity and the illusory nature of "freedom" in an age of manufactured consent, G.W. Sok offers some of punk's most bracing and memorable agitprop lyrics. These twenty songs are a quick-moving and caustic trip, a DIY studio rendition of the band's explosive live set from this era. History Is What's Happening remains an important signpost in the history of both Ex-evolution and the cataclysmic '80s. With their sophomore LP, the group would put Holland on the underground music map. Indeed, many now-lifelong fans around the world were just beginning to take notice and get down with the mighty Ex." Terrie (guitar), G.W. Sok (vocals), Bas (bass), Wim (drums). Recorded at Joke's Koeienverhuurbedrijf, Schellingwoude, Netherlands. Produced by Dolf Planteijdt. Released in standard jewel case, including a 24-page booklet with lyrics and artwork, layout in punk fanzine style. Label: The Ex Records Barcode: 718752003926

"Like Sonic Youth, The Ex knows that their harshest parts stand out in bolder and better relief when balanced with softer moments." "The Ex and Tom Cora have joined forces again for another passionate and eclectic release." "A new voyage of discovery, once again quite enervating... Poetry and chaos side by side, like confrontation and trance, in a wild collision of styles. Uneasy listening." Ex Records, 1993 Label: Ex Records Barcode: 7619942005528

Joggers and Smoggers is a double album by The Ex, released in 1989 as a double vinyl record album, and issued as a double CD in 1992. It is the first of the Ex's albums to feature extensive use of improvisation and instruments outside of the standard guitar/bass/drums arrangement of punk rock, as well as great numbers of international guest musicians, most notably New York's Sonic Youth, Glasgow's Dog Faced Hermans, Amsterdam's Instant Composers Pool, as well as numerous folk musicians from a variety of European and Middle Eastern traditions. The album marked a turning point in The Ex's artistry, foreshadowing many collaborations and delvings into avant-garde, experimental, improvisational, folk and world music that the band would mix with their abrasive trademark post-punk sound in the 20 years to come. "Disturbing Domestic Peace, The Ex's debut album, appeared mere months after their first single, 1980's All Corspes Smell The Same. Originally released on the band's own Verrecords (they made up different label names with each record), the LP falls squarely within a punk idiom and, at the same time, shows this influential Dutch group's restless energy. Terrie Ex's guitar serves up vectors of percussive pulse, fraying the edges of the music's squared-off rhythms. Vocalist G.W. Sok – an anarchist Dziga Vertov with a mic – observes, declaims and condemns across a set of interrelated political concerns that would return in Ex-music for years to come. While The Ex channel the poise and principled attack of Crass or Flux Of Pink Indians, they create a unique declamatory sound all their own – trailing brilliant flashes of color in the wake of punk's monochrome palette. Offering ten songs in only twenty-two minutes, Disturbing Domestic Peace lays bare a vivid snapshot of a truly singular band who (at the time) were just finding their feet." Terrie (guitar), G.W. Sok (vocals), Bas (bass), Ome Geurt (drums). Recorded at Joke's Koeienverhuurbedrijf, Schellingwoude, Netherlands. Produced by Dolf Planteijdt. Label: The Ex Records Barcode: 718752003827

• 20 track collection of seminal ska and rock steady skinhead anthems from prolific performer and producer Laurel Aitken. • A direct influence on the Two Tone scene and the mighty Madness. • Includes a host of anthems, from ‘Rudi Got Married’, ‘Rude Boy Dream’ through to the essential ‘Skinhead Train’ with a nod to ska’s more racy side on ‘Fire (In Your Wire)’ and ‘Pussy Price (Gone Up)’. Widely hailed as the Godfather of Ska, Laurel Aitken dominated Jamaica’s recording industry throughout its infancy, enjoying a series of hugely popular mento and Jamaican R&B hits during the latter half of the 1950s. Early the following decade he relocated to London, where, over the years that immediately followed, he recorded for every Afro-Caribbean record company of note. While his ska and rock steady recordings ensured Laurel remained a firm favourite among Jamaican ex-patriots, the reggae explosion of 1969 exposed his work to a wider audience, with productions for Doctor Bird, Pama and Trojan Records establishing him as a musical hero for many of Britain’s young, white working-classes, notably those that had adopted a fashion style dubbed by the national press as ‘skinhead’. Out of stockPlastic Bertrand was the alias of new wave prankster Roger Jouret, a native of Belgium who appropriated the sound and style of the new wave movement in order to give it a gently satirical poke in the ribs, while scoring several European hits in the process. Jouret began his musical career as a drummer for the Belgian punk trio Hubble Bubble, which recorded one unsuccessful album. When Jouret met producer / songwriter Lou Deprijck, the two struck up a recording partnership. CA PLANE POUR MOI was their first single release from AN 1 and is widely regarded as a New Wave classic for its gleefully deranged stupidity, with Jouret singing French nonsense lyrics in a cartoonish voice over basic three-chord rock & roll complete with saxophones and a falsetto vocal hook straight out of the Beach Boys or Four Seasons. The song was a smash hit in Europe and became a cult favourite in America (#39 Billboard Hot 100) and peaked at #8 in the UK charts. Plastic Bertrand continued to release records in Europe, including a U.K. top 40 hit remake of the Small Faces' SHA LA LA LA LEE. Label: Hot Shot Records Barcode: 5013929240438

Out of stockCockney Rejects are back with an album that shows they’ve lost none of their energy over their decades long career. ‘Power Grab‘ feels like a love letter to all the aspects of punk, rock and metal that the band have flirted with over the years and it’s all the more rounded and satisfying for it... The sound and spirit of 1979 is ever present throughout ‘Power Grab’, with a smooth 14 tracks that capture the real nature of the band. There isn’t any filler here- in fact the band left out some six songs to make this collection the most vibrant and vital thing they have ever created. --Molly Tie, Punktuationmag.com, October 26th 2022 Label: Cadiz Music Barcode: 0844493062257

Some records so perfectly capture an artist at a critical point in their creativity, and make such an impact, that they become not just synonymous with the band, but an essential piece of music history. Such is the case with Shock Troops, the album that not only became Cock Sparrer’s most acclaimed record, but a defining moment for Oi!, punk rock, and underground music in general! Originally released by Razor Records in 1983, Shock Troops proved to consist of song after song which would each become anthems of the burgeoning Oi! scene and far beyond. From the opening of “Where Are They Now?” on through “Take ‘Em All,” “We’re Coming Back,” all the way to the closing chords of “Out On An Island,” there isn’t a song in the bunch that any self respecting punk rocker can’t shout along to. These working class anthems are just as vital today, as proven by the crowds of beloved fans worldwide that continue to go wild at Sparrer’s live shows, where Shock Troops tracks still make up the heart of their setlists. Shock Troops” is widely regarded as the greatest Street Punk Oi! album of all time and remains to this day one of the most consistently in demand catalogue items on Captain Oi! Includes the seminal “England Belongs To Me” single as a bonus track (a version of the song is also used by legendary UFC champion Dan Hardy before he enters the ring) The track “I Got Your Number” was recently featured in the highly successful film “Jackass 3D” Booklet contains lyrics to all the songs and lots of press clippings from its original release Still headlining festivals across the globe – Cock Sparrer are the benchmark for which all other bands on the scene are judged Tracklist: 1 Where Are They Now 2 Riot Squad 3 Working 4 Take 'Em All 5 We're Coming Back 6 Watch Your Back 7 I Got Your Number 8 Secret Army 9 Droogs Don't Run 10 Out On An Island Bonus Tracks 11 England Belongs To Me 12 Argy Bargy 13 Colonel Bogey Label: Captain Oi! The Ramones' fourth studio album from 1978, Road to Ruin. Originally released on Sept. 22, 1978, Road to Ruin—at the time—was a chronicle of the Queens quartet's most dynamic sonic shift to date. With Bell rechristened as Marky Ramone and Tommy splitting his production duties with Ed Stasium and managing the group, the fourth Ramones LP boasted a much looser grip on the relentless machine gun punk that defined the New York City punk rock sound in the mid-70s, featuring complex chord changes and a closer reach towards the '60s pop feel which was always at the core lead singer Joey Ramone's rebel heart. Featuring the iconic cover art of Punk Magazine founding editor John Holmstrom based on a fan-made drawing, not only does Road contain one of the Ramones' most enduring street hits "I Wanna Be Sedated," the original 12-track mix also featured maneuvers that were aimed directly at attaining the group more radio airplay, including a pair of ballads in the heartbreaking lament "Questioningly" and a sincere rendition of the 1963 Jack Nitzsche and Sonny Bono composition "Needles and Pins." The fire of the Gabba-Gabba-Heyday was present in the kinesis of blistering tracks like "I Wanted Everything," "I Just Wanna Have Something to Do" and "Bad Brain" (where the legendary DC hardcore band got its name, btw). But it's the lean towards the Ramones' affinity for Phil Spector's Wall of Sound that makes Road such a vital title in the group's canon. Out of stockContaining the hits that were only deemed misses by the critics that condemned Oi! as some kind of subcultural fad that favoured football and violence way above the bloody good tunes that should by rights occupy the higher rank, 4 Skins, The Unreleased Radio & Studio Sessions encapsulates that energy at its finest. From formidable swarms of police brutality and political injustice, the underlying (and unyielding) socio-political messages experienced from the streets that resonated with every estranged clockwork skinhead of the day are bound to be ticked on every track. After the atmospheric crash of One Law for Them, dropped in amongst the Radio and blistering Bumper Sessions with Evil sitting squarely in its unpolished centre is the ska-inflected gallop of Seems To Me, an unreleased tune reinforcing the notion that there was more to Oi! than meets the laces. 40x30 cm folded poster included, 1-5: Recorded in July 1981 for radio session that was never broadcast. 6-7: Unreleased single, due to be issued in 1983 (Secret SHH 149). 8-12: Recorded at Bumper Studios in January 1981. 13: Demo.
