Coming up in the late 80’s in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake/Echo Park scene, L7 drew from a diverse set of in uences: Motörhead, Ramones, feminist Bay Area punks Frightwig. They made fun of the Sunset Strip’s bouffants and machismo while playing the same kinds of ying-V guitars. They also had no patience for grunge’s gloom, even though their friends were in bands like Nirvana, Mudhoney and Soundgarden. A raunchy punk stampede that predated both grunge and girlpower, L7’s self-titled debut is proof that chicks can rock just as hard, if not harder, as any guy. A surplus of rockin’ punk/metal guitars and driving drums equal 11 tracks to remind yourself that it1s ok to bang your head, HARD. L7 is the band’s debut album, released in 1988 and produced by Brett Gurewitz. Label: Epitaph Records Barcode: 8714092640113

Decry formed in 1982 in Monrovia, California. They are often credited as one of the leading bands of the 1980s punk revival. From 1983-1986 the band toured the US quite a few times and was featured on many radio shows such as Rodney on the Roq. Many bands opened for Decry such as Guns and Roses, L.A. Razor formed in 1984 in Ontario, Canada. Over the decades they have become one of the most legendary North American Thrash Metal bands ever. • THE JAM | in the city | LP

    19.00 incl. tax

    In stock

The debut studio album by the British mod revival band, originally released in 1977. In the year of punk, the Jam exploded onto the music scene with this seminal debut album. The raw, unfettered aggression of the band's approach was well in keeping with the spirit of the times, but the heart of their songs and sound lay in the mod movement of the mid-'60s (early Who, Creation, etc.). Singer / guitarist Paul Weller comes off like a cross between Joe Strummer and the young Pete Townshend, bashing unreservedly through Slow Down, one of the r&b tunes that inspired the original mods. Weller extols the virtues of frenzied dancing and nonconformist youth culture (Non-stop Dancing, Away From the Numbers) over the raging three-chord attack of bassist Bruce Foxton and drummer Rick Buckler. The pure punk insouciance of his words and delivery is a perfect match for the raging but hooky 'arrangements,' which basically consisted of the band walking into the studio and blazing through their live set. Rickenbacker guitars never sounded so thick, and skinny ties never seemed less geeky. Pressed on 180 Gram vinyl. Label: Usual Suspect

  • We have been working on this one for a while now and we are thrilled to finally announce it. This is a live LP from D.C.'s legendary hardcore band Faith! Recorded live in December of 1981, opening for the Bad Brains, this LP is 2 complete sets and it captures the bands incredible live energy. This is early, raw hardcore at it's best. All photos are by Glen E Friedman, who was at the show and went on to shoot everyone from Minor Threat, the Beastie Boys and Public Enemy. Guy Picciotto from Fugazi traveled with the band for the show and had this to say... "The Faith were one of the best live bands DC ever produced. Having been there, I can confidently say that their show with the Bad Brains at CBGB’s on 12/26/81 was the best concert happening anywhere on the Planet Earth that night. Nothing else could have come close." Label: Outer Battery Records
  • Awesome collection of the double Peel Sessions recorded in 1979 and 1981 when the Banshees were exploring new territories and creating the sound that later became well known as goth rock. Awesome sound and very interesting insert full of pictures, stories and interviews. The 1979 session has been recorded around the time Join Hands was being released. The 1981 session is the first session with the new line up featuring Buggle and Mcgeorg on drums and guitar. Mandatory for every 77 punk and post punk maniac! • First time reissue of the yellow cover variant! French anarcho-punks Berurier Noir formed in Paris in 1983, intended to implode after one sole gig, but this intense mask-wearing duo, featuring Loran on guitar, François on vocals and a drum machine named De’de’ caused pandemonium live, leading to distinctive LPs. Debut album Macadam Massacre captures the group at their rawest, their non-conformist format and confrontational lyrics chronicling the squats and HLMs on the peripheries of French society. Deliciously dark and with jagged edges galore, it will appeal to the band’s cult followers and all those interested in cutting-edge European punk and post-punk. Here you can find the rudest Cockney Rejects songs with some The Clash's influences in some reggae riffs but without losing energy or sounding soft. • During the late 1970s, hardcore punk hit the surfer town of HuntingTon Beach, southeast of Los Angeles, like a gnarly wave. Shattered Faith are among the most revered of the groups to surface from her shores, co-founder Kerry Martinez and early member Goblin both from the Latino community. This indispensable collection gathers all six tracks from their renowned Poshboy session of 1981 that yielded the classic protest single “I Love America”/“Ronald Reagan,” as well as the entire slew of 1979 demos, appearing on vinyl for the very first time. This is So-Cal hardcore at its irresistible best. All tracks remastered by California Punk rock mastermind GEZA X. • It's with great pleasure that we announce the Swedish raw punk legends ANTI CIMEX have finally reached the joyful lands of Agipunk. On this record we're collecting in chronological order all the demos and the studio recording sessions that haven't been released on any official release so far. A total of 29 tracks that originally appeared on "K.A.A.S January 1982", "K.A.A.S April 1982", "En Produkt Av Dagens Skitsamhälle" tapes plus the studio session right before the "Raped Ass" 7" EP and the discarded recordings for the full length that never saw the light and eventually became the "Victims Of A Bomb Raid" 7" EP. All you Cimex maniacs out there probably already know most of the songs, but you'll definitely find a bunch of extremely obscure tracks which I bet you've never heard before. All the tracks come from the original tapes and the sound has been restored and remastered by Lasse at Ballade Studio in Copenhagen. 1000 copies pressed (500 on Agippunk and 500 on Sonarize Rec.), super detailed insert full of informations and anedoctes. Released in 2003, Remains Of The Day followed up “An Underlying Frequency” with ‘Hanging on Rebellion.” Where their previous effort was despairing landscapes of dereliction, interspersed with moments of hope, ‘Hanging on Rebellion” focuses on that desperate, frantic hope; the melody is heightened, the pace is quickened, the violin ever present yet out of reach in waves of heavy reverb over far more melodic post punk inspired guitars, howling screams and low growls and the very prominent pummelling d beat. It is this juxtaposition of almost etherial and intricately delicate melodies and the underlying crushing crust hardcore that is so evocative. Remains of the day perfectly captured the sound of an abandoned world of forgotten things; of expanses of pylons and withered trees, of cities lost to nature. Together with the likes of His Hero Is Gone. Madame Germen, Ekkaia and Tragedy, they would inspire a decade of epic, emotive crust. Label: Alerta Antifascista Records

STRAW MAN ARMY | age of exile | LP

EUROPEAN PRESS. "This is one small attempt to make something of the bewildering history of these 'united states,' and the long age of exile that follows in the wake of this colonial project. An attempt to become better students of the land we occupy, and the long resistance of its stewards to cultural and ecological decimation. A vehicle for histories that won't sit still. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve listened to Age of Exile in the past few weeks. I got a preview before it came out and on the first listen I was hooked. My first impression was that it sounded like Kaleidoscope (with whom Straw Man Army shares members), but it’s reaching toward something more like the song-oriented anarcho punk of Zounds and Crisis. I’ve been playing this record into the ground in the subsequent weeks, though, and there’s so much more to hear than a simple “this kinda sounds like this” comparison. One thing Straw Man Army shares with Kaleidoscope is a sense of rhythmic sophistication and inventiveness" Sorry State (D4MT Labs Inc Neurosonic Research/2021)
  • All Pigs Must Die return with a new skull-crushing opus: NOTHING VIOLATES THIS NATURE. As with the debut album: “God Is War”, NVTN was recorded and mixed by KURT BALLOU at Godcity Studios. APMD is a band committed to uncompromising sonic warfare. Its sound and lyrics assault the listener in a fury of blackened death filled anthems. Owing as much to the Cro-Mags and Discharge as Entombed and Celtic Frost. APMD mix powerful riffs, relentless tempos and a dark presence to bulldoze a grim path of destruction. The NTVTN album contains 10 violence-inducing shredders steeped in utter filth. Aaron Turner (Isis) has lent his nihilistic hand, pen and mind to develop along with the band the dark iconic artwork contained within. Label: Southern Lord Records Barcodoe: 808720017717

Worcester, Massachusetts-based crossover outfit HIGH COMMAND set out on a warpath to create the heaviest work they have produced yet on their debut full-length and Southern Lord debut, Beyond The Wall Of Desolation. HIGH COMMAND is, in their own words, “five friends coming together to create the sonic equivalent of a barbarian horde.” The band’s lyrical world, created by vocalist Kevin Fitzgerald, is steeped in lore and savagery, heavily inspired by fantasy-based warfare, and in the band’s words, “boundless quests frozen in the aeons of time and space hacked out of ice and transcribed in lightning. Beyond the thin vail of sanity lies the forgotten age of mysticism and heroes.” Their studio choice for such proceedings was the legendary Machines With Magnets in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, constantly challenging the boundaries of what is possible in the realm of recorded media. From hearing previous projects recorded there (, The Body, Big Brave and Churchburn to name a few) it was apparent to the band that this was a studio that had a focus on the unique and the organic. Seth Manchester, the head engineer, worked tirelessly for the week HIGH COMMAND was there, sculpting a record with a healthy respect to the Old Gods of metal they admire while at the same time, sonically speaking, also carving a realm of its own. The eight bludgeoning tracks on Beyond The Wall Of Desolation cleave the tender cranium of the listener asunder across their forty-three-minute running time. Bringing forth the undeniable heft in their self-proclaimed New Wave Of Worcester Heavy Metal, the heaviest of armament is advised against the flail. Bay Area death metal/punk trio NECROT will release their long-anticipated new full-length, Mortal, via Tankcrimes in 2020! Recorded by Grammy award winning engineer Greg Wilkinson (High On Fire, Autopsy) and mastered by Alan Douches (Cannibal Corpse, Cattle Decapitation, Mastodon) at West West Side, the followup to the band’s critically adored Blood Offerings full-length is at once earth rupturing and memorable, spewing forth seven tracks of meticulously executed vile and maniacal death metal supremacy. Easily their most precise performance to date, Mortal foams at its mouth with Chad Gailey’s destructive rhythms, Sonny Reinhardt’s intricate guitar leads, and the guttural domination of vocalist/bassist Luca Indrio. NECROT’s Mortal, which comes cloaked in the cover art of Marald Van Haasteren (Baroness, Kvelertak), will be released on CD and gatefold LP. Forged in 2011, NECROT is a death metal/punk trio from Oakland, California. Sharing current and former members of Acephalix, Vastum, Saviours, and Mortuous, they are among the most respected bands of the  current Bay Area death metal scene. Following three demos and a demo compilation LP, The Labyrinth, NECROT unveiled their debut full-length, Blood Offerings, in 2017. The record, which earned the #29 spot on Billboard’s Hard Rock Chart and #52 on Billboard’s New Artist Chart upon its first week of release in addition to earning year-end accolades from the likes of Decibel Magazine and Revolver, continues to reap the praise of fans and critics both Stateside and abroad. The band has toured the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia extensively in addition to numerous festival appearances in Mexico, Scandinavia, and Japan with live incursions in support of Mortal to be announced in the months to come. • Reissue of this crucial crust-punk semi classic from 2012. Originally released by Inimicial Records in just a very limited first press, this masterpiece finally gets a re-release thanks to Flox and FFYM Records. MISERY don't really need an introduction do they? Along with NAUSEA and APOCALYPSE they spearheaded the American crust-punk scene since the late eighties and here they are to unleash 14 tracks of frantic bulldozer crust punk including two covers from the AMEBIX and NEW MODEL ARMY. MISERY having been prophesizing the end times while blasting our ears for the last 25 years now. 25 years and only three full-lengths. For many bands, after such a huge gap between releases (it’s been 9 years since their somewhat lacklustre splits with TOXIC NARCOTIC and PATH OF DESTRUCTION; 16 years since the now-legendary “Who’s the Fool… The Fool is Silence” LP), the original spark isn’t there anymore, or the band merely splits up. Thankfully, neither of these are the case with MISERY. In fact, it is safe to say that this is the best thing the band has recorded in their entire history, and this seems to be the start of a whole new exciting chapter for the band. Mastered and Re-mastered by Jack Control of Enormous Door Mastering. Gatefold-Artwork by Andy Lefton and the repress includes a DIN A1 Poster with additional artwork by Brian D'Agosta aka. GOST ART. Also included is a reworked lyric sheet with photos by Christine Boards Larson (Slug & Lettuce) and Alicia Morgan. TRACK LISTING: A1 . Mother Nature A2 . Oil Age A3 . Autonomy A4 . One of the best and most underappreciated albums to emerge from the legendary Finnish Punk explosion. 013 were an amazing short-lived but hugely influential Finnish band. They were all the more amazing for having a sound and spirit all their own. A truly pure Punk underground sound inspired by the sounds of 77 and 78, loaded with catchy as fuck cool guitars and melodic vocals made every song instantly memorable. The three-piece from Pukkila, Finland, originally appeared on the now sought after collectable Propaganda EP released in 1981 and the legendary Russia Bombs Finland compilation LP released the following year. The band’s only album was the Takaisin Todellisuuteen LP which was released on Propaganda Records in 1983, and the band split up shortly afterwards. If there is any album for any band that should be released on as many labels as possible, it’s this one. And this band. Lion's Law have for years made themselves part of the scene, in scenes across the globe. To say they are part of the fabric of punk rock would be putting truth to fact. This new album perfectly illustrates the powerhouse that they have become, and the way that they are reaching out beyond their traditional skinhead/Oi! comfort zone to include a much wider and diverse audience. What they’ve managed to do is opening eyes and ears across the world, and doing so without isolating the swarms of fans, labels and supporters who have elevated them to where they are now. The songs are nothing short of brilliant, and fitting for the momentum and pent up energy percolating in this camp! On the back of this record, these fearless Frenchmen will see the world in a new light, playing to bigger crowds and making new fans wherever they go! These guys are the life of the party, and on stage, truly a force to be reckoned with. Pick up “The Pain, The Blood, and The Sword” now and hear it for yourself - this is the real deal! Tørsö caught our attention with their debut 7”, Community Psychosis, but when we heard Sono Pronta A Morire we really flipped out. Originally a project band started by a group of worldwide hardcore all-stars, Tørsö adopts the best parts of members’ previous projects--the energy of Neo-Cons, the precision of Punch, the heaviness of Holy and the ferocity of Ritual Control—while simultaneously breaking new ground. Easily one of the tightest and most explosive bands in hardcore today, on their debut LP Tørsö combine the catchy, crusty riffs and rhythms of Swedish hardcore like Totalitär and Herätys with pit-clearing mid-paced parts, wrapping it up in a bruisingly thick recording that doesn’t skimp on the bottom end. While they’re very much fast, loud, and hard, Tørsö are a comfortable fit with Sorry State’s pattern of releasing thoughtful, well-developed, and well-written hardcore. Label: Sorry State Records

  • It seems that every time you turn around, there’s another Oh Sees slab. Long ago we lost all capacity to be surprised that this sturdy unit keeps putting out records and that they’re really good. You can now add the Metamorphosed LP to your ever deeper shelf sagging row of John Dwyer and Co.’s seemingly no sleep release schedule. The five tracks were taken from the sessions that formed 2019’s Face Stabber album, a 17 track / 80+ minute jammified four-sider. Metamorphosed would have been the perfect third LP to fit in with the other two. Metamorphosed isn’t just some barrel scrape for those who can’t get enough. All of the five tracks stand up to anything on Face Stabber. The record’s 23+ minute I Got A Lot is one of the coolest songs the band has ever done. (Rock Is Hell Records)

Sarcasm's final offering is the much-needed shot in the arm you don’t even have to queue for. Sonically their six-track EP is a potent mix of the ignorant anarcho clatter and arch post(-graduate) punk you already love them for, but moreso. Picture UK DECAY squatting the Barbican. Still eschewing distortion for a truly inspired use of phase, the cavernous production (another Falco joint) will leave you staring at a city trader until he switches carriages. Whether it's echo-laden pronouncements on our worst instincts for techno addiction (‘Digital Colony’) or odes to modernist artists Paul Nash (‘Marsh Personage’) each track is as desperate as it is restrained by the same conditions. Heavily reminiscent of FALLOUT and the more cerebral end of UK82, mercilessly taut and lyrically about as obtuse as you’d hope from punk songs about rare varieties of lichen. Some guy once said something about the need for pessimism of the intellect and optimism of the will in abject times, and this band amply proved the evergreen joy to be had in being a smart arse. Bury ‘Creeping Life’ under the rubble of the A3030 at Stonehenge when they start tunnelling, because this is one for the well-groomed future druids. Justified and ancient, ‘Creeping Life’ absolutely goes. (Bryony Beynon) 350 copies pressed on blue vinyl in a garish sleeve and with a fine looking insert. Label: Static Shock Records

Official re-release of the 1982 smash record, originally released on Riot City Records. On this record, Mayhem from Southport in England offer a wacky and unpolished punk sound that differs massively from the original GB punk of that time. MAYHEM came from the environment of BLITZKRIEG and THE INSANE with whom there were personnel overlaps. Originally the band started rehearsing with a bunch of mates who used to hang out at the legendary Eric's Club in Liverpool, where they often went to matinee shows on Saturdays. MAYHEM existed from about 1979-1986, but put out their last record in 1985. The record blasts out of the speakers with such a chaotic energy that you just can't sit or stand still, it encourages you to destroy precious things. Put the record on when you get up in the morning, it will ruin your day. This is punk. (Bomb-all Records)

MARKING 25 YEARS OF DARKTHRONE’S TIMELESS 1991 DEBUT OF MELODIC & TECHNICAL DEATH METAL Darkthrone began in the late 80's as a thrash/death metal act & progressed through technical death/doom metal experimentation to become legends of the black metal world & one of the original leading bands of the Norwegian scene, as well as inspiring a whole generation of metal bands. Soulside Journey was Darkthrone's debut studio album after signing with Peaceville Records, following their cult Cromlech demo. It was recorded in 1990 at Sunlight Studios in Sweden with Tomas Skogsberg, notable for his work with Entombed & many other acts over the years. Soulside Journey contained tracks of atmospheric & often technical & complex death metal, with influences ranging from acts such as Autopsy & Death. This was the band's only death metal album before turning to a more primitive black metal style, but is still rightly regarded as a masterpiece of the genre. Issued with a double-sided printed innersleeve with lyrics and a limited edition sticker on back cover of some copies: Peacevile Limited Edition 180gsm Vinyl. • Relapse Records, in a collaboration with Cherry Nishida, are proud to present AGONY憎悪REMAINS, a collection unearthing all of the material from Nishida's legendary Japanese hardcore band ZOUO, as well as 4 死 Death, a brand new album from Nishida's current outfit, S∴h∵i. Originally formed by friends of a local skateboard crew in the early 80's, ZOUO quickly became torchbearers for Japanese hardcore punk at the time. The band's music was a direct reflection of their collective frustrations and takes on their culture; the lyrics detailed the bands hatred for "societal hypocrisies and existing religions." ZOUO's debut The Final Agony 7" remains a landmark release to this day - tracks such as "Sons of Satan" and "Making Love with Devil" showcase some of the most raw and evil punk to ever emerge from the underground. Following ZOUO's releases, mastermind Cherry Nishida delved deeper into Japanese hardcore, forming DANSE MACABRE - a band solely dedicated on honing into the psychology of a serial killer. Nishida now returns with S∴h∵i (Struggling Harsh Immortals). Wishing to break from the genre's confines. S∴h∵i's new discordant take on rock, metal, and punk, infuses industrial elements and noise with a stark audio/visual presentation. An evolution of his prior material, S∴h∵i is directly correlated to Nishida's views on the human condition and the human minds he finds to be "unconsciously derived and mutated." For Nishida, S∴h∵i represents the struggle and search for the free spirit. (Relapse Records)
  • British rockabilly combo The Krewmen had several distinct phases during the 1980s; beginning in 1982 as a rockabilly trio, they moved in a blues direction for their first 45s and after temporarily disbanding, reformed as a psychobilly quartet for this sought-after debut LP. Songs like “Night Of The Living Dead,” “Wild Dogs Of Zorberon” and “Hell Train” have a delicious B-movie aesthetic and “Don’t Give A Toss” and “Guy Fawkes” are keen Brit takes on the form. A must-have for Cramps and Meteors fans, and all psychobilly devotees. Label: Radiation Records Barcode: 8055515231953

Everything Sucks is the fifth studio album by American punk rock band the Descendents, released in 1996 through Epitaph Records. It was their first album of new studio material since 1987's All, after which singer Milo Aukerman had left the band to pursue a career in biochemistry. • REAKSI from Melbourne Australia are three immigrant punks from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. The band delivers direct, hard and pungent lyrical protest in their native language Bahasa. The songs attack political issues that every Asian punk knows too well, the rights of and the struggles of immigrants (Tidak Ada Manusia Ilegal, Tidak Menyerah), police brutality (Awas) and songs of struggle and freedom (Punk Asia) that is highly relevant to the Myanmar’s people current uprising against military coup junta. “Esok Hari Kepunyaan Kita” translated “Tomorrow belongs to us” was recorded last year during harsh COVID lockdowns in Melbourne, this debut five track E.P combines the solid attack of UK 82 of THE PARTISANS, CHAOS U.K, the anthemic Oi! sound of THE 4SKINS, BLITZ and also drawing influence from traditional archipelagic hymns. Featuring members of ENZYME, KROMOSOM, PISSCHRIST AND INTRUSION. At first listen/ glance, the sound production and art of this record could easily be mistaken as a record off the NO FUTURE catalogue. Featuring art collaboration by Nicky Rat and Hafiz (SIAL), sound production by Joshua Wells (PRIORS), Maxime Smadja (RIXE, CONDOR) and Yeap. REAKSI “ESOK HARI KEPUNYAAN KITA E.P” is a love letter and a call to arms for Asian punks everywhere. (Fahmi Reza) (La Vida Es Un MUs Records)

MALADIA “Sacred Fires” 12”EP stands on an abyss made of the hiss and fog of a thousand generated cassette demos and the murky despair of damaged electronics and overloaded amplifiers. Equal doses of raw punk from the Southern Hemisphere and 80s European hc punk influences mingle with harrowing and desperate vocal cries, echoing RUDIMENTARY PENI and NERORGASMO as if both bands were hanging out in the back seat of a tour van listening to ANTISECT on a boombox. Recorded in a pre-fire Fuzzbrain studios in oppressive mid summer heat, this will tear your turntable up! (Jonah Falco) (La Vida Es Un MUs Records)

Rata Negra return with "Una Vida Vulgar" their third and best album. A truly pop infused punk record with an incredible production. The album harks back to their previous work in Juanita Y Los Feos but with more pop elements and a bigger and better production. Each of the ten tracks are so good, that they could be released as a single. The Rhythm Section is locked in and the guitars buzz but it’s the vocals that take this to pop heaven. The first side of the album starts with Venid A Ver and doesn’t let up until the Phil Spector esque Cuando Me Muera. Flip over and it’s straight back to the upbeat gems, which just keep coming until the final track Romance De Lobos which ends the album in a more reflective album. Una Vida Vulgar is pure perfection and for fans of X, Blondie and Rik Agnew. (Sean Forbes) Label: La Vida Es Un Mus

An album Maximum Rock 'N' Roll deemed not punk enough to review, Unwound's 1994 sophomore effort was a lethal depth charge aimed at major label grunge and independent hardcore alike. From the off-kilter, vertiginous rhythm of "Entirely Different Matters" to the neck-snapping velocity of "What Was Wound" to the relentless pounding at the end of "All Souls Day," New Plastic Ideas is the Sonic Youth-loving older sister to Fake Train's post-punk-obsessed little brother. Un Último Ultrasonido Nació Y Murió En Barcelona is Barcelona’s sophomore 12” of pure sonic nihilism. A band of highs and lows. High concept as performance and low brow as execution. In my eyes Barcelona is simply a genius project, capable of create their own universe and vomit all over it. Their formula of distortion to the max, total free-ness and improvisation with regurgitated bass lines and repetitive primitive beats topped with the sharpest and nastiest lyrics as observation of our own futility and misery. In their own universe you can find Hermann Nitsch, or the entire catalogue of ESP Disks hanging out with Manolo Kabezabolo and Eskorbuto. Probably without them being aware of it. All of the above is what you’ll find in the 13 songs on this disturbing record wrapped around again in artwork but the last artist on earth Oriol Roca. (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)

Radiation Roots present a reissue of Pavement's self-titled album, originally released in 1969. Pavement's sole long-player is the stuff of legend, a record so rare that in-the-know vinyl connoisseurs have questioned its very existence. As one of the many vinyl anomalies of the day, Pavement's obscure story is very much about a particular place and time, in this case, the fringes of the multi-cultural London music scene that existed at the tail end of the swinging sixties. According to the liner notes of the original LP, Pavement was formed in 1968 after "Dexter Pat and John had left their original group," and "Tony and George left theirs to unite with them." Then, "an express letter to Beirut brought Mick, who was playing there at the time." We are told that these musicians were "digging the solid soul sounds" and "the exciting rhythms of the Caribbean, ska and reggae," and after two months of steady rehearsals, the band "launched themselves into the rat race of popular music" in November 1968. They supposedly had so much success as a warm-up act after playing up and down the country in support of various unnamed groups that they were "soon being booked as top of the bill," hence the need for this. Pavement's self-titled debut album was the first LP released by Crystal, the subsidiary of President Records that was established in 1968 by Jack Price, a songwriter and harmonica player that had just replaced Siggy Jackson as label manager at Melodisc Records. Price had his finger in a number of different pies: in addition to promoting Melodisc's ska and reggae catalogue, he was soon to produce the ground-breaking various artists album Rock Steady Hits Of 69 for Fontana with London-based reggae performers, which helped bring Caribbean rhythms into non-specialist music shops for the very first time, and enjoyed the publishing on The Cats' massive "Swan Lake" 45, a hugely successful pop-reggae adaptation. Jack also ran a recording studio of his own, reputedly the first London facility with eight-track recording equipment. The original liner notes suggested that we should "rest assured that there will be more singles and albums to come from this refreshing group" and that "this news will please a lot of people." Of course, things didn't quite work out that way. This reissue reminds that reggae, soul and other foreign forms were spicing up the London music scene as the 1960s drew to a close. Hunter were formed during the summer of ‘79 in the Isle Of Wight. The original line up consisted of Jon Amor on vocals, Ian Hargreaves on bass/backing vocals and brothers Clive and Hugh Kim Lewis on guitar and drums, respectively. They had a different sound to the new wave music of the era, centering mainly around driving bass riffs and choppy guitar. Most of the material they played were their own songs. They rehearsed extensively and made their live debut on 22nd December 1979 supporting the Pumphouse Gang at Lakeside Inn. Not long after Hugh departed the band to join Flirt (later Cassie) and Chris Lines took his place on the drums. The new line up did some more live gigs and went into Tim Muncasters 4 track studio in East Cowes to record some songs. A short while after the band split up. (Rave Up records)

1969 proved a crucial year in the development of Jamaican music. Reggae had just superseded Rock Steady in becoming the island s national sound, with the new exciting style swiftly embraced by a fast developing British working class youth movement noted for their smart, functional clothing and cropped hair Skinheads. So it was in such an environment that leading independent Doctor Bird Records released Laurel Aitkens long awaited second album in 1967, Laurel Aitken Says Fire, a collection comprised of his most popular singles from the preceding months along with previously unreleased material. Unsurprisingly, the LP became an immediate best-seller, its success only hindered by the record company’s sudden and unexpected demise soon after.
