It's no secret that John Dwyer and Thee Oh Sees put out a ton of stuff. We're not just talking full lengths, of which there are many, and recently…but the singles, splits, comps even books - the dude cooks in many kitchens but the sauce is always tasty - and we're proud to continue our tradition of occasionally corralling these rarer gems all at once in a convenient LP format. If you already have all these songs from the first pressings, you must be a seriously insane collector (even I don't), but we've even included an unreleased and mutated live version of "Block Of Ice" recorded to tape at San Francisco den of iniquity "The Eagle" to sweeten the deal. We've also done our darnedest to dandy up the bunch and make it a party - they're printed on a blinding silver foil jacket with incredible tritone all-original artwork by Shalo P, of course the tunes have been gussied up ever-so-slightly to knock you nightly. In the swirling & undulant warm mud of jettisoned reels of magnetic tape, blurps up the fog of reinvention. Every night I would parley with my pilots and run and rerun the recordings. Right up until the moment sleep slips its veil over eyes and ears and you drift back without a sound. Protean Threat dream haze becomes Panther Rotate in the other dimension. A companion LP of remixes, field recordings, and sonic experiments using all sounds generated by the hum and crackle of the desert farm. (Castle Face Records)

Here we have a new batch from Thee Oh Sees for your absorption - nine muscular tunes primed to pummel to. Last year’s Drop was more schizophrenic, ranging from heavy to whimsical and back - Mutilator Defeated At Last has the most in common with the monolithic hugeness of Floating Coffin - with only two slight reprieves in heaviness this is a record made to be played loudly and that demands bodily sacrifice inherently. Despite the plutonium heavy feel, Thee Oh Sees continue to be omnivorous - synths and acoustic guitars expertly wind their way throughout like veins of gold through granite - any and all that stands in its way will be devoured and assimilated. This is the sound of a band doing what they do best. (Castle Face Records)

John Dwyer's crew roll in with the garage blast of I Come From the Mountain then drop the tempo and ramp up the distortion with Toe Cutter-Thumb Buster. From there on in it's a rollercoaster ride soaked in reverb, distortion, tambourines, analog keys and hand claps. Thirty nine minutes of perfection guaranteed from one of 'thee' best bands in the world right now. (Castle Face Records)
  • THEE OH SEES | drop | LP

Our lad John P. Dwyer has been lancing eardrums with Thee Oh Sees in an ever escalating flurry of records for the past 6 years. Since the release of "The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending A Night In" announced a new loud era and excepting a few momentary detours into home-baked territory ("Dog Poison" and "Castlemania" for example), JPD and company have pummeled a bit harder each time out, cemented their reputation as a live force to be reckoned with, and have left legions sweaty and bruised in the process. Late last year, after years of relentlessly touring the world, the word got out…Dwyer's moving to LA (fear not, still California!) and Thee Oh Sees are taking a much needed hiatus with a shifting of gears ahead and a new album on the way. This is that album. "Drop" was recorded in a banana ripening warehouse (no joke) with hair-farming studio warlock Chris Woodhouse playing drums and graced with the presence of talented gurus Mikal Cronin, Greer McGettrick, and Casafis adding horns and vocals. The result pushes the familiar polarities of the group farther outward than ever before…opener "Penetrating Eye" might be the heaviest Oh Sees song yet, "Transparent World" and "Put Some Reverb On My Brother" foam with seasick fuzz, and yet the ballads, like the harpsichorded "King's Nose" and the lush and stately closer "The Lens", extend their oeuvre into mellotronic, far-out pop with delicacy and grace. This schizophrenia heralds the man and the band into an unseen future in classic Dwyer fashion - with restless energy harnessed into exquisitely crafted jams, with an emphasis on the pensive and the paranoid in turns. Featuring artwork by Jonny Negron. (Castle Face Records)
  • From the same misty mountain top tape spool as August’s “A Weird Exits”, Thee Oh Sees bring us a companion LP titled “An Odd Entrances". Delving more towards the contemplative side than the face-skinning aspects of "A Weird Exits", "An Odd Entrances" is a cosmic exercise en plein aire with Dwyer and co double drum shuffling, lounging with cellos, following a flute around the groove, and spooling a few Grimm-dark lullabies along the way. Lurking in the grass are a snake or two, like the celestial facing instrumental buzz of Unwrap The Fiend Pt. 1…but for the most part this is a relatively hushed affair, a morning rather than evening listen perhaps. Zounds formed in Reading in 1977 releasing their first single Can’t Cheat Karma on Crass Records in 1980. This early association with Crass meant they were key figures in the bourgeoning anarcho-punk scene along with The Mob, Poison Girls, Flux of Pink Indians and many others. Moving to Rough Trade Records the band released their first album The Curse of Zounds in 1982, recording and mixing the LP within five days. The cover art, by anarchist artist Clifford Harper, featured a painting of fire fighters apparently trying to put out a blaze at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. However, the picture continued onto the back cover, which showed that in fact they are spraying the fire with petrol, thus feeding it. Someone must have slipped one of those post-anarcho-syndicalist pamphlets in with these guys’ Beano comics! This is sturdy, above-average English pop-punk with some surprisingly infectious hooks. But the foursome ain’t just disaffected youngsters lookin’ for a kiss (or any ol’ white riot) – they’re searching out the meaning of life in the post-industrial capitalist system. As long as you’ve got the tunes, fellas – go for it! – Trouser Press. "The curse of zounds" is now seen as a classic of the genre and one of the most inspirational albums of the post-punk period. • At the end of 2020 and in the 1st half of 2021 THE YELLOW MELODIES, released three EP's through Discos Imprescindibles. Each EP includes four own songs and a cover of an artist or band they admire. Now is the time to release the album SUNSHINE POP, on vinyl by Old Bad Habits label, Hurrah! Musica and Discos Imprescindibles and on CD by the Canadian label The Beautiful Music. The album will feature the songs from their EPs except for the covers. 'Sunshine Pop' is a remarkable collection of vital songs which stand out for their bright arrangements and for their harmonies of heavenly amplitude very close to perfection. Brilliant melodies, a hedonistic attitude and above all, a lot of pop, charmingly sophisticated pop. The songs on ‘Sunshine Pop’ are true guitar pop hymns, which perfectly define the sunshine spirit of vocal harmonies and string arrangements, brass, keyboards, glockenspiels. Most of the songs are in Spanish, without losing the essence of their sound. THE YELLOW MELODIES are essentially a group of songs. Here you have an impeccable selection of them with lyrics that have a positive aura, as in "It's a good day today", reminiscent of that "Wake up, Boo!" by THE BOO RADLEYS, with some delicious parapapaaaas; or “Dance party”, with a sixty atmosphere, which contrasts with "Ya no sueñas con ganar”. THE YELLOW MELODIES are Rafa Skam on vocals and guitar, Antonio Clares on bass and backing vocals, Carlos Abrisqueta on keyboards and guitars, and José Ángel Hernández on drums, and the songs were recorded into Pepe Moreno’s PM Studio.Norma Hamilton has added powerful backing vocals in these shiny songs full of sunlight, love and youth that will recharge you with positive energies. ‘Sunshine Pop' is a little wonder and these songs are full of sunlight, love and youth, features guitar pop hymns, which perfectly define the sunshine spirit of their musical adventure throughout analogue synthesizers, magical vocal harmonies, trumpets and other colourful arrangements. • Hailing from the Jersey Shore, the Worst began their career in the late 1970s playing frequent gigs at legendary New York City dives like Max's Kansas City and CBGB, drawing on the proto-punk sounds of the Stooges and MC5 and refining it into their own brand of proto-hardcore. By the early 1980s the band stripped things down even further to a high velocity hardcore sound and kicked off the legendary Mutha label with the release of their debut 7" in 1982. Their follow-up release, the "Expect The Worst" 12" from 1984, finds the band hitting their loud and fast peak with precision songwriting and performing rarely matched by other hardcore bands of the time. These vinyl releases have gone on to become top-shelf collector's items, and rightfully so given the quality of the tunes contained within. Originally released on CD in 2004 by Parts Unknown Records, this LP version combines both of The Worst's incendiary vinyl releases with an 8-song live set recorded at the legendary Max's Kansas City in 1979. Also includes a 12-page, 12"x12" booklet containing rare flyers and photos, plus newly-penned liner notes by vocalist Do-It. Pressing of 1000 copies. (Radio Raheem Records)

The debut album from the White Stripes back in stock. Raw urban sleazy blues that went onto change the face of music. You need to own this. The White Stripes' self-titled debut album is purely amazing. Diving straight in with Jimmy the Exploder, the song is incredibly catchy. The main riff, however simple, is genius, and you won't be able to get it out of your head. Throughout the album, Jack and Meg's souls and energy are poured into the music, and it obvious that so much work was put into the album. Printed inner sleeve with lyrics and credits. Recorded January '99 at Ghetto Recorders, Cass Corridor, Detroit. (Third Man Records – TMR042)

The Welders were an all-female Punk Pop band from St. Louis, MO. Formed by four young, teenage women in 1975; they started playing shows in 1976, in one of the toughest climates to get booked for bands playing original material. The Welders bonded over their love of The Monkees, The Beatles and early glam rock. The comedy of the National Lampoon Radio Hour and the Marx Brothers were just as big of an influence. The Welders played several shows in the St. Louis metro area and eventually caught the attention of a local photographer and newspaper owner. He financed a recording session in 1979, with plans to release a four song EP. The newspaper folded before the release could happen, and all that survived was a cassette copy of the recordings. The Welders continued for a couple more years after recording the EP. They had brief line up changes, and added an organ which shifted their sound more towards a '60s garage pop sound. They were ahead of their time again, pre-dating most of the neo-garage explosion of the '80s. By 1981, the band had moved on to other interests. In 2010 BDR Records (a sub-label of Rerun, designated for St. Louis area artists) issued that previously unreleased EP. The EP was well received worldwide and has been sold out for several years. This new collection includes a newly remastered and improved version of the 1979 EP tracks, along with other studio, rehearsal and live recordings. The LP includes a large, six panel insert filled with amazing photos of the band. The first pressing has a limited number of 100 blue vinyl copies, which are only available via direct mail order. The CD format comes in a fold-out digipak cover (Bachelor Records/Rerun Records)

  • Walter Lure, best known as co-frontman and songwriter of the Heartbreakers, also led his own band, The Waldos. Their debut ‘Rent Party’ LP has been unavailable on vinyl since 1994. This limited edition in blue vinyl has two bonus tracks, from the 'Crazy Little Baby' 7" of 1991. (Non-Returnable) Sadly, Walter died in August 2020, the last of the ‘L.A.M.F.’ Heartbreakers. His memoir "To Hell And Back: My Life In Johnny Thunders’ Heartbreakers - In The Words Of The Last Man Standing" will be published by Backbeat in paperback edition on July 1, 2021. Upon the original ‘Rent Party’ release, AllMusic.com said - "The long awaited Waldos album proved to be a big success, at least artistically ... the Waldos tear through a set of tunes that are as much fun as a CD can have with its clothes on." Walter Lure’s guitar-sparring partner in The Waldos in place of Johnny Thunders is Joey Pinter, whose self-titled solo album was released in 2015. The rest of the band is the late Tony Coiro on bass and Jeff West on drums except on the bonus 7” tracks, the late Charlie Sox. The album features six Walter Lure originals, plus covers of Jerry Nolan, Gary US Bonds, Claudine Clark and Ray Charles songs. A limited edition in transparent blue vinyl, with inner bag. Here's another classic from the early 80's. 'The Violators' was formed in 1981 in New Mills, England and it was a mixture of punks and skins in their line up. In their beiginnings the band sounded very similar to 'Vice Squad' and 'The Expelled'. The band made their debut on the 'A Country Fit For Heroes' 12" in 1981 by 'No Future Records'. The following year they released their first EP titled 'Gangland' followed by 'Summer of 81' in 1982 again by No Future. Few weeks after the release of their second EP, vocalist Helen and guitarrist Coley splited from the band to form their own band call Taboo, but never issued any singles. Meanwhile The Violators have recruited a new vocalist called Louise and guitarist Andy who was formally with "Skin Graft". The second generation of The Violators changed their sound. This time with heavier vocals and songs. The band always kept their clockwork sound, which they are known for. Violators released a few more singles, but never a full length. The band split up in the mid 80's, and marked history with their clockwork images and noises in the punk culture. Mad Butcher Records managed to get the tracks from all of their singles and compilations they appeared and relesead this fantastic LP. (Mad Butcher Records)

"This LP contains the Vibrators' recorded sessions as guests on the BBC's celebrated John Peel show, the nightly radio show which was the showcase for Punk Rock in the UK from 1976 onwards. The sessions span the seminal years of their career leading up to the releases of their classic "Pure Mania" and "V2" albums. As drummer Eddie says in the sleeve notes, the musicianship developed as the sessions went on, from an embryonic punk band to the masterful "new wave" act they became. From a shaky version of "Nazi Baby", through punk anthems "Baby Baby", "Keep It Clean" and "London Girls" you can hear the band grow in stature and power. The real highlight is the March 6, 1978 session, with its excellent rocking version of "Fall In Love" and the best recording the Vibes ever made of their masterpiece "Troops Of Tomorrow". After hearing this version on the John Peel show, the version of "Troops" which made it onto "V2" was disappointing in comparison. I've always thought that this session was the Vibrators finest hour, this track their best ever recording.' Folded insert with liner notes and band pictures included. Tracklist John Peel 28.10.76: A1 Dance To The Music A2 Sweet Sweet Heart A3 Jenny Jenny A4 I'm Gonna Be Your Nazi Baby A5 We Vibrate John Peel 22.06.77: A6 Petrol A7 Keep It Clean A8 Baby Baby B1 London Girls B2 She's Bringing You Down John Peel 06.03.78: B3 Automatic Lover B4 Destroy B5 Troops Of Tomorrow B6 Fall In Love (Ttan Ttakun Irratia Records)
