IN THE SUMMER is a collection of eight songs recorded on four track reel to reel during 1977, and then four more during 1978. They were a band that came together in the early Toronto punk/new wave scene, fronted by dual excellent singer-songwriters, and became a great band that was even more underground than the others there at that time. This legendary anthology includes fan-favorites “Do The Wait,” “O Boy,” “Wild Trout,” “I Killed Marx” and the title track. (Rave Up Records) https://thescenics.bandcamp.com/album/in-the-summer

  • Despite releasing records only on independent labels and receiving virtually no radio play, Dead Kennedys routinely top both critic and fan polls as the greatest punk band of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their sound was inventive and tetchy, and front man Jello Biafra's lyrics were incisive and often scathing. This chronicle--the first in-depth book written about Dead Kennedys--uses dozens of firsthand interviews, photos, and original artwork to offer a new perspective on a group that was mired in controversy almost from its inception. It examines and applauds the band's key role in transforming punk rhetoric, both polemical and musical, into something genuinely threatening and enormously funny. Author Alex Ogg puts the local and global trajectory of punk into context and, while not flinching from the wildly differing takes the individual band members have on the evolution of the band, attempts to be celebratory--if not uncritical. • A contemporary classic, Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk is the definitive oral history of the most nihilistic of all pop movements. Iggy Pop, Richard Hell, the Ramones, and scores of other punk figures lend their voices to this decisive account of that explosive era. It is the number one best-selling Punk book of all time. It has been published in 12 languages and helped launch the oral history trend in music books. The 20th anniversary edition features new photos and an afterword by the authors. "Punk rock, known to most people through the notoriety of England’s Sex Pistols, began in America in the ’60s with bands like the Velvet Underground and Iggy and the Stooges. McNeil and McCain chronicle punk rock history through hundreds of interviews with the people who really lived it, the streetwise ex-hippies disgusted with corporate/stadium rock and disco who reinvented rock and roll by making the old new again. The authors have interviewed members of short-lived, forgotten bands like the Dictators, Television, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, and Johnny Thunder’s Heartbreakers, as well as the bands that made it big: the Ramones, Blondie, and the Patti Smith Group. There are some great stories, too, about the origins of glitter and the ripped T-shirt, Iggy Pop’s proclivity for taking off his clothes, bar fights, groupie sex, inflated egos, drugs, drugs, and more drugs, and the deaths. For the uninitiated, the authors provide brief bios of the 220-member cast of characters." (Booklist) Format Paperback | 448 pages Dimensions 137 x 208 x 33mm | 567g Language English
  • By distinctively combining sardonic wit, romanticism and timeless tunes, they produced such classics as 'Orgasm Addict', 'What Do I Get?' and 'Ever Fallen in Love?' Their split in 1981 only heightened their reputation as one of the brashest and most melodic bands ever, and the widespread acclaim that has greeted their reformation and subsequent new material has solidified their reputation as perhaps the most relevant punk band of today. The Complete History draws on years of research and numerous interviews with the band and associates, and contains meticulous detail of every gig, record release, rehearsal, recording session, bootleg and line-up, including an entire history of the band members' many and varied solo projects. In addition, a complete discography of Buzzcocks material, as well as photographs of every line up (including many previously unseen shots) complete the ultimate collectable for any fan. This revised and updated edition picks up where the last left off in 1995 and gives Buzzcocks fans a unique, in-depth and complete piece history of the British punk icons. • Cassette Happy youth was released on September, 1984, for Ljubljana’s alternative publisher ŠKUC in number of 200 copies. Even for small Slovenia this was extremely modest number, but those were different times. It was possible to feel strong thaw in last decade of communism in Yugoslavia, but the leading state publishing houses still looked upon non-conformist, especially socially critical music, with big distrust. If I look back, they made us big favour with that. This scanty cassette, consisting all, by then recorded songs and some, directly from radio dubbed concert recordings, became most dubbed cassette in history of Slovenia. With it (by adding new recordings) cult status of Niet, which flared up in 90’s and is still going strong, was spreading… Igor Dernovšek (2015) Gatefold sleeve, printed inner and 24-page booklet "Izobčeni" (Outcasted) with interview, review, lyrics in Slovenian/English, lot of rare photos… All songs are remastered! (NE! Records)

  • Big Black was started by Steve Albini in 1982 while he was attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Lungs, the first Big Black release was recorded by Steve on a borrowed 4-track. He played everything on the EP himself - except the sax bleating courtesy of pal John Bohnen and the drums courtesy of Roland. Soon after, Steve recruited Jeff Pezzati (Naked Raygun) on bass, and Santiago Durango (also Naked Raygun) joined them on guitar. In 1983, together with live drummer Pat Byrne, they recorded the Bulldozer EP. By 1984, the band had done some touring and recorded the Racer X EP and the start of the Il Duce 7”. After that, Jeff returned to Naked Raygun and was replaced by Dave Riley. In 1985, Big Black recorded their first full-length, Atomizer, as well as finishing the Il Duce 7”. Atomizer was released in 1986 along with the release of the Hammer Party compilation CD. In 1987, the Headache EP and Heartbeat 7” were released. That same year, the band recorded and released the 7” of The Model/He’s A Whore as well as their second full-length album, Songs About Fucking. They toured extensively (for Big Black). And they broke up. (Touch And Go Records)

  • The Fix was one of the earliest hardcore bands in the Midwest and one of the first to release a record for Touch And Go. Blazing away with the Necros and the Meatmen, The Fix is part of the foundation of what would become Touch And Go. This collection of recordings will be released on both CD and vinyl and includes both early Touch And Go singles, the track from the "Process Of Elimination" track, a few demo tracks from the "Jans Room" sessions and live tracks from a 1981 tour. (Touch & Go Records)
  • US Import. Death were a black power trio from Detroit who released a single in 1975 and pretty much disappeared after that. Inspired by the raw Rock 'N' Roll of the Stooges and MC5, the three brothers moved away from their Funk/R&B roots into a new realm.... for the Whole World to See features the two songs from the single ('Keep on Knocking' and 'Politicians in My Eyes') and five other tracks. MOS DEF SAYS: "These dudes were pre-Sex Pistols, pre-Bad Brains, pre-all that shit, and nobody knows about them. I don't understand how the world could forget them. You really should read up on the history of this Rock n' Roll artifact. A google search will help; something like "death band punk 1974"... The album reminds me of these bands: MC5, The Jam, Zero Boys, Early Police, RadioBirdMan - to name a few. If any of those bands are at your top 10, then this is a must have piece in your collection. NOTE: They are also selling it on vinyl on here!!! The story to this piece of work is very interesting not to mention inspiring to say the least. The songs? All are hits in my mind. I just wish there were more!" (Drag City Records)
  • VOIVOD | katorz | CD

    8.00 incl. tax
Katorz is the 11th Voivod studio album and 14th overall release. It was conceived in a period of inspiration. The touring that followed 2003's self-titled Voivod album (including a successful Ozzfest stint) kicked the band's momentum up another notch. With the lineup firmly settled Denis Piggy D'Amour, Michel Away Langevin, Denis Snake Belanger and Jason Jasonic Newsted they began writing of one mind and prepared to take their sound to the next level. A wealth of material was conceived, too much for one album, but they eventually settled on 10 songs that would stand as their 11th album. The fine-tuning began. But early in the process, tragedy struck. Guitarist and main riff-constructor Piggy was struck down with colon cancer. Throughout the middle of 2005, the music took a back seat while band members and friends hoped and waited for him to beat the disease. By late August of that year, Piggy succumbed to the illness and passed away. The metal world mourned with Piggy's band members and family. In the ultimate tribute to his memory, the rest of Voivod finished the recordings using a wealth of demos the guitarist left behind. In his final days he gave longtime cohort Away directions where to find his demos, expressing his wishes that the band finish the album in his absence. Voivod would carry on in Piggy's memory, recording with producer Glen Robinson(a name Voivod fans will recognize from the Nothingface era) and emerging triumphant with Katorz. It is a fitting tribute to Piggy's talent and a respectful epitaph of the man's vision. During the recording, Voivod hinted that more experimentation would go into Katorz than the previous album. While this is clear, the band didn't experiment for its own sake and there are no overzealous attempts to recapture the vibe of any previous album. They have always pushed defiantly forward, and Katorz adds new aspects and colors to their diverse discography. Odd sounds, strange rhythms, cosmic segues and unsettling atmospheres exist in the margins, while direct attacks comprise the bulk of the album. Diminished, crippled chords fly from Piggy's fingers. His strange 6-string shapes prove he's the only man to ever find the X-sharp and Z-flat chords on a guitar. Drums roll and tumble like a churning machine as Away makes perfect sense of Piggy's unique configurations. Snake sneers and spits in his inimitable style as Jason's rumbling bass lines boast fat, crunchy tones that pierce their own melodies through the din. If defiant opener The Getaway and catchy mother The X-Stream are direct stabs of Voivod at their most punk, then the paranoid Mr. Clean, the heavy shifting slabs of Dognation and left-of-center Polaroids reveal the more difficult, mysterious aspects of their sound. And if people interpret hints of new-wave underlying the weird Silly Clones , it wouldn't be the first time Voivod confused or confounded. Sounds are heavy but punchy, raw and frazzled but typically focused and always mesmerizing. Voivod and The End Records are proud to present Katorz: a triumph in the face of tragedy. We all think Piggy would be proud. (Nuclear Blast Records)

  • RANCID | let’s go | CD

    8.00 incl. tax
Rancid's second LP, released in 1994, is disarmingly good from start to finish. With roots set firmly in their Berkeley punk rock origins, on Let's Go Rancid set out with heart, soul and vehemence to reach new heights in their music. Some of the highlights are "Salvation," "Radio," and "Nihilism," but all the of the songs bristle with the unmatched signature of Tim Armstrong's intensely evocative writing style. Recorded in their hometown of Berkeley CA, at legendary Fantasy Studios and mixed in Los Angeles at Westbeach Recorders, Let's Go foreshadows the ground breaking success that would be found on their next record, And Out Come the Wolves. (Epitaph Records)
