The glorious Fuck Ups from San Francisco. MRR's most hated band! The first song is White Boy which Bob Noxious sings about walking around San Francisco's Mission Dist. For those that don't know, The Mission District, or The Mission as we say, is a latino enclave that borders the SOMA Dist. and Noe Valley. Loads of gang problems and crime, but with some of the best Mexican food around! MRR black balled The Fuck Ups for this song, stating that they were racist. Noooo they're not! MRR was a bible to alot of us during the 80's, but as I have gotten older have realized that they were dictating their own agenda in the punk scene here. With no voice to air their own views, The Fuck Ups had to play incognito and such. Now I am not saying that Bob Noxious was a saint. Far from that. He was notorious for attacking other lead singers of bands he did not like and he managed to do so to Ian McKaye of Minor Threat at either The Tool and Die or the Mab I cannot remember which. Also I think guitarist Joe Dirt was in Society Dog too. They released their one legendary ep in 1982 called “FU-82”. Angry, pissed-off and obnoxious, they really came across with the full scale of punk-emotions. Its a fuken classic!! with hate filled songs like “I think your shit”,”I hate You”,”Negative Reaction” Etc…They were also on a few comps like “We Got Power” in 1983 and they were on a comp. with GG. They were one of the meanest bands in there time,real fucken jerks along with Urban Assault, Sick Pleasure and the Lewd. For fans of Society Dog and the early 80's San Francisco sound, as well as any obnoxious sod. This one's for you. (Puke N Vomit) -

Dead Finks is the musical output of New Zealand-born duo Joseph Thomas and Erin Violet. Formed in Sydney sometime in the late '10s, it's current incarnation is a four-piece rock band based in Berlin. On The Death & Resurrection Of Jonathon Cowboy the band showcase an incredible knack for writing catchy and unique melodies. They play punk music in the tradition of Wire, Sonic Youth and The Fall (whose "Frightened" is covered here, recorded the night of Mark E. Smith's death) and take cues from contemporaries like Parquet Courts and Iceage in their efforts to manipulate and expand upon what it means to be a punk group in 2021. Written and recorded in Sydney, late 2018 (shortly before the duo moved to Berlin) the LP serves as a strange prediction of the horrible state of the world today. Songs about war, plagues, pissing, police, David Cronenberg’s Videodrome and the climate burning. Its a sea of wiry guitars and thumping bass that plants itself inside your inner ear and doesn’t leave. Thomas’ smart-ass delivery and literary style with odd references abounding, sees a return to something similarly touched upon in his previous group Trust Punks. However, on this LP Dead Finks feel more straight-forward in the best kind of way. Stripped down rock music that knows what it is and smashes you over the head. Vocal harmonies and lush organ sounds. It sounds really good. Divorcing somewhat on this release from the harsh underground sounds of previous iterations of the band. An extremely strange synchronicity. Some will try and say it was planned. It wasn’t. This is art working in mysterious ways. Hopefully for some of you it will help. Personally, these songs transcend this horrible situation we are collectively going through. But they cannot be exempt from being looked at through the gaze of a world stricken by plague. Vatican Commandos was a hardcore punk band formed in Darien, Connecticut. The band features members James Spadaccini, John Farnsworth, Lindsey Anderson, Chip Moody, Chuck "Wheat" Weaver, and Richard Hall (who also went on to success under the name "Moby" after the VC had disbanded). The band was formed in 1982 and released its first 7" EP entitled, Hit Squad for God in 1983. Richard Hall (Moby) is credited as "M.H." on the back cover of the release. Later members included Dave Hower, Mike Pollock, and Matt Craig. The band went on to release the Just a Frisbee 7" EP later in 1983 and Point Me to the End 12" EP in 1984. The "Just a Frisbee" 7" cover artwork was drawn by Rob Zombie, founder and lead singer of White Zombie. The Vatican Commandos disbanded in 1985. Hailing from Maumee, Ohio, the Necros were one of the first hardcore bands in the U.S.! Consisting of highschoolers Barry Henssler, Andy Wendler, and Todd Swalla, the Necros formed way back in 1979. Meatmen vocalist and scenester Tesco Vee soon took the band under his wing, and within a year they were at the forefront of a scene cantered around Detroit, Michigan. In 1997 the hardcore scene was in dire need of a sense of humor. Four Vegan Straightedge dudes from Washington, D.C. (where it all began) stepped up to the challenge. Good Clean Fun was formed. They set out on a three-year non-stop tour to spread positivism to the whole planet as only hardcore band can do. Two 7”s and two full-lengths later and shows in 35 countries, from Austria to Australia, from New England to England, from the beaches of Hawaii to the fjords of Norway (and so on) the message was delivered. In 2002, the band returned home and released a Discography CD on Equal Vision Records.
