• Legendary Essex band Eddie & the Hot Rods prefaced punk and pioneered what would later be deemed ‘pub rock’ through a raucous offshoot of ramp that was definitely ahead of its time, with hefty doses of raw power and humour. Signing to Island Records would bring them lasting fame, and these rough and rowdy demos date from just before the ink was dry, when Lew Lewis was still a prominent presence on harmonica, capturing them on the cusp of the Teenage Depression breakthrough. Early cuts of ‘Wooly Bully,’ ‘Get Out Of Denver’ (with Vic Maile on piano), ‘Double Checkin’ Woman’ and ‘Been So Long’ have to be heard to be believed, and there’s a bonus dub of the latter too. Essential listening for all Hot Rods fans! Tracklist A1 Double Checkin’ Woman A2 Get Out Of Denver A3 Wooly Bully A4 Been So Long A5 Get Across To You B1 G.L.O.R.I.A. The title comes from a 1980 concert: the infamous Eddie of Eddie and the Subtitles asked, "Anyone want to hear 'Louie Louie'?" and the singular response came back loud and clear: "FUCK YOU EDDIE!" And so 28 years later that witty comeback graduated from the title of Eddie and the Subtitles' debut 7" to our new compilation LP featuring both sides of the aforementioned single, the crème of their their LPs Skeletons in the Closet and Dead Drunks Don’t Dance as well as several unreleased demos. Eddie and the Subtitles had a critical role in creating the Orange County punk scene; in their heyday, all the lands south of Los Angeles were known as “The Eddie Empire.” The tracks on Fuck You Eddie! are at once sloppy, fast, fun and profound in their own way. No punk rock collection is worth a damn without it! (Frontier Records)

    EDUCATION | parenting style | 7″

    4.00 incl. tax
Parenting Style is the new 4-song EP from this Italian post-punk band who had a previous LP on Symphony of Destruction a few years back. I haven’t heard that one, but Parenting Style is cool. Education sounds to me like they’re influenced by dark but still kind of “rock” bands like Bauhaus, early Christian Death, and Killing Joke. However, rather than doing a straight homage, Education approaches this sound like a hardcore band, with high intensity and an aggressive playing style, particularly in the drums. Education reminds me of Diät, but they’re not that far away from something like Ex-Cult either, even though the presentation is very different (which seems like a suitable spot to note that the artwork is super cool). Fans of Raleigh’s sadly departed Crete should also check this out. This band should tour here so all my friends can break out their goth gear. (Symphony of Destruction)
  • EGO | egoism | LP

    16.00 incl. tax
When I had the chance to listen to this demo I didn't hesitate a minute and got straight in touch with the band asking for the possibility to reissue it on vinyl because it blew my minds away. The physical version of Ego-ism is billed as a demo on their band’s Bandcamp page, but with ten very lengthy tracks, Ego-ism is longer and more ambitious than most current punk and hardcore bands’ full-lengths. The sound is gruff and heavy (particularly the vocals, which are growling and intense), but the music is adventurous, working in elements of shoegaze and darkwave around the edges. Take the track “Dekadent,” which borrows moves from Bauhaus and Skeletal Family, but then Ego snaps right back into d-beat with “Ljudi.” Hailing from Berlin and featuring Nesha from Doomsday Graphics on vocals this will be remembered as one of the few good things that happened during the pandemic. • EL MARIACHI | crux | LP

    18.00 incl. tax
In a time when the death cult of this capitalism-thingamabob becomes even more obvious, a great amount of cloud-rap-autotune to become Chancellor is missing. But, hey, I`m still in love with large parts of that punk rock. And a band that makes the word "solidarity" one of the main themes of their album these days ("Grandpa, you’re repeating yourself.”) without being embarrassing earns a place in my heart. That is, if the band hadn’t had it already anyway: At El Mariachi concerts, you might see people in the first row ("never seen that at punk concerts") in Get Up Kids shirts next to a determined Slime shirt. I saw El Mariachi twice at the end of 2018, after their final show at the time, in 1848 in front of the Paulskirche. And I still had the feeling everyone was decently (!) going bananas, without suddenly finding myself in a room full of assholes. A rare feeling. Chapeau. It was loud, it was noisy, and yet there was always something to bring about an amorous smile. It was too hot, and yes, it was also a bit beery, people were having fun, and I’m thirsting so much for the next time.... The third album is awesome. It's their best. It's even funny (The end of the song „Gratis Geld“ is God). It's melancholic and combative. It's El and Mariachi: German lyrics that convey something like a concrete attitude without making your toenails wrap around your neck, straight punk paired with rhythmic melodies for billions. All of that in its particular combination makes the album something very, very special. It is the last bullet for the tenderness of the peoples and against Christian Lindner. Therefore, the Golden Hen 2021 goes to El Mariachi! (Sabotage Records)
  • Picking up right where "Performative Justice" left off with ELECTRIC CHAIR cranking out their pitch perfect hyper active USHC filled to the brim with snarl and style. These manglers have sharpened their sticks and aimed them square at the hackneyed garbage parade that is modern society, just jabbing away at it until all thats left is a bloodied lump and maybe a tooth or something. Listen and bear witness to one of the best punk bands of our generation doing what needs to be done. 1000 copies of Discharge black 70gr vinyl housed inside a stunning silver foiled glue pocket sleeve with 14x14 poster and download card included. Recorded by Detto. Mastered by Jack Control. Art by Collin Buhr with photographs by Dave Hoekje and type/design by Leoff Spennit. (Iron Lung Records)
  • Expanded to 12" including hot edits / reworks by GARETH GODDARD aka CHERRYSTONES. In 1979, Wayne County & The Electric Chairs – the legendary punk–rock band – recorded their third album, Things Your Mother Never Told You, in London. It was produced by David Cunningham of the Flying Lizards, famous also for his work with This Heat, Michael Nyman, etc. He also played synthesizer on some of the tracks. Often compared to Bowie’s Low and Iggy Pop’s Lust For Life, the album combined the no–frills punk–rock sound of the band with the experimental production of Cunningham, showing his love for dub music and cut’n’paste / electronica. After a tour promoting the album, vocalist Wayne County along with guitar player Eliot Michaels departed the band and returned to New York, where County later emerged as Jayne County. The remaining Electric Chairs members – Val Haller, JJ Johnson and Henry Padovani (ex–Police!) – decided to continue under the Electric Chairs name. Their record label gave them just a month to find a replacement singer and write material for an album. After rehearsing with a few singers, none of which were suitable, the trio decided to go into the studio and record some tracks with Cunningham as producer. The result was the "So Many Ways" / "J’Attends Les Marines" 45, released in November 1979 by Safari Records. Here, Cunningham applied his most experimental production techniques, using electronic treatments on drums, rhythms and vocals. "So Many Ways", featuring Val on lead vocals, was far from anything else the band had previously done: an hypnotic punk–funk / no wave / synthetic pop hybrid that still sounds years ahead of its time. In 2013, it was included on the compilation "Under The Influence" by famous DJ James Glass. "J’Attends Les Marines" was a rework of "Waiting For The Marines" from the Things Your Mother album but adding a cool dub / experimental touch. Here’s the first ever vinyl reissue of this sought after punk–funk / no wave 45, featuring the original artwork but expanded to 12" format for maximum sound quality and including two exclusive edits / reworks by Electric Chairs fan and mix/edit wizard Gareth Goddard aka Cherrystones. • Though famous for other things (including doing the synths on GARY NUMAN’s iconic “Pleasure Principal” album and co-writing VISAGE’s massive hit, “Fade To Grey”), Chris Payne brought THE ELECTRONIC CIRCUS to life in 1981. At the time, poised to become his next major project, the initial single “Direct Lines” gained little traction and quickly found its way to quiet obscurity. There it remained until some genius made a video using footage from Swedish film “Summer With Monika” that so perfectly fit the surging melancholy of youth’s temporary romances that the song garnered a million views and a new cult of rabid fans (me included! -Jensen). Once this synth-pop perfection enters you it will find permanent purchase and continue to be a joyous wellspring for years to come, truly a gift that keeps giving. This fully licensed official reissue comes on 150 on red and 350 on black 75gr vinyl housed in a reverse board custom die-cut glue pocket sleeve. Originally recorded in 1981 at Pebble Beach Studios in Sussex UK (also where THE ADVERTS recorded the excellent "Gary Gilmore's Eyes/Bored Teenagers single!) by Tony Harris. Remastered in 2021 by John Golden. Art and packaging based on the original 1981 design. (Iron Lung Records)
  • Almost 30 years after their first demo and several split releases, here is now the ultimate EMBITTERED discography double LP. EMBITTERED was a very underrated crust/grind band from Middlesbrough (UK) active between 1990 and 1996. The double LP contains the "And you ask why?" Demo, the "2nd Demo", all the material from their Split LPs with DYSTOPIA and Their Split 7" with HIATUS plus their own "Choke" EP. Slow metal parts mix with fast as fuck grinding moments, typical crustcore with dual vocals, some vintage hardcore, some distinctively anarcho references... Think of early Napalm Death, Extreme Noise Terror, Electro Hippies, Disrupt, Anti-System, Disorder, Deviated Instinct but at the same time, it never feels like a copy of these bands, the band had coined their own style "anarcho grind" and I can't really think of a more appropriate description: anarchopunk meets old-school grindcore. The LP comes with an extensive booklet with liner notes, previously unpublished pictures and posters. (Power It Up Records)

  • Almost 30 years since their inception, the members of Engine Kid got together a few months ago to hang out and record new music. The result of which arrives by way of the "Special Olympics" EP flexi disc/digital EP on 3rd December via Southern Lord. Some fans may recognize the song "Special Olympics" which, like others on this release, are reworkings of old material which were never recorded. The music represents the sonic direction that the band were heading before they disbanded. With this EP, Engine Kid commemorate the joy of playing music together for the first time in 26 years, and pick up where they left off. As Jade Devitt comments, "The musical commitment and connection that we forged in the 90’s has held like a magnet, finally pulling us together after 26 years! The newly recorded songs were dusted off blueprints from our very last practice tapes from the summer of ’95. Now enhanced with experience & age and new arrangements. The Kid flies again." Earlier this year, the 90’s post-hardcore collective featuring Greg Anderson (Southern Lord label owner, also in Sunn O))), Goatsnake & Thorr's Hammer) released a 6-LP box set of their career-spanning recordings on color vinyl LP's for the first time titled Everything Left Inside (find out more about that here) Engine Kid’s Brian Kraft adds, "Greg, Jade and I spent the summer and fall of 2020 gathering old photos, flyers, artwork and audio rehearsals /remixes/remasters for the Everything Left Inside box set. This remote reunion of the Kid made me realize how important Greg, Jade and Engine Kid was and is in my life. The reconnection led to recording some new material. It felt as if we were continuing right where we left off.” Engine Kid’s first new material since 1995, the “Special Olympics” EP’s cover art is a symbolic metaphor about living one's best life, and with swagger. The songs themselves continue the band’s “take on the world” attitude with restless, wild energy. Engine Kid’s new EP is available now on flexi and on digital format on Bandcamp. • Wasting no time in staking their claim for death metal supremacy, Swedish newcomers ENSNARED unleash their debut mini-album, Ravenous Damnation’s Dawn, following their hotly tipped 2011 demo. But let not their country of origin fool you, for ENSNARED are no mere old-school Swedeath revisionists: schooled in the ‘old,’ yes, but this fiery quartet mainline the blackthrashing insanity of ’80s South America into a robust, gnarly soundfield that remains both fresh and timeless. With dizzying intensity and a flow that’s forever straddling chaos and control, Ravenous Damnation’s Dawn indeed ensnares the listener into a slipstream of diabolical majesty. Buttressed with CD bonus tracks from their 2011 demo, ENSNARED’s Ravenous Damnation’s Dawn proves that the first strike is indeed deadly! Front cover art by Daniel Selfdesecrator done with real blood, and design by Tlmnn (Necros Christos, Drowned). (Nulear Winter Reords)
  • Era Of Fear from Xanthi/Northern Greece play dark anarcho post punk with their own sound. Four new songs following their EP that was released two years ago. On the flip side we have Πανδημια from Athens. Unfortunately, these are the last four songs that they recorded just before splitting up. Great anarcho punk strictly inspired by early 80's Greek and UK punk scene. 500 copies on black vinyl. (Scarecrow Records) https://scarecrowrecords.bandcamp.com/album/split-lp
  • Erupt offer up five fiery tracks on Left To Rot. Treading the blurry lines between extreme punk and extreme metal, Left To Rot is a cacophony in all the right ways. Fast as, heavy as, nasty as. Featuring members of Sheer Mag, Geld and Gutter Gods - Erupt brings its own molten explosions to the surface. These burnt offerings are recommended for fans of Sodom, Celtic Frost, Iron Age, Warthog, Mindsnare and the other hordes of apocalypse old and new. (Static Shock Records)
  • Guns Of Brixton reissues the 1991 album from Spanish punk band Eskorbuto. Demasiados Enemigos ("Too Many Enemies") is not just the title of another disc by the blazing band from Santurtzi but the album with the difficult duty of putting an end to a legendary combo as we knew it. Eskorbuto was a band of its time and that is shown in every chord and every chorus, branded in fire through the years by those who danced and vibrated around the flames of this cursed band. This is a unique album -- special due to its legacy and the circumstances under which it was recorded. Now it is reissued on vinyl. If you didn't get it at the time or you were too young to know, now you have the chance to request the max from your turntable, not giving a damn if volume affects the structure of the building. (Guns Of Brixton Records)
  • Guns Of Brixton Records presents a vinyl reissue -- as rock'n'roll liturgy deserves -- of the fifth album of an independent and combative band like no other. In July of 1988, the most obscure record of Spanish punk band Eskorbuto's discography was released. Vomited from the entrails with the boredom of a life blackened by the soot pouring from the nozzles of the factories of the beaten left bank of the Nervión River. Time had already hardened them and their attitude was plain, above all they were "anti-everything." Las Más Macabras de las Vidas ("The Most Macabre of Lives") is a timeless record and paradoxically sounds fresh again in its vinyl format. It is a great opportunity to once again taste the subtle shades of exasperation that hang around the grooves of the bitterest record from the bitterest band. Eskorbuto inoculates in the listener, harder than ever, the rage and the nihilism of which they were keen transmitters. (Guns Of Brixton Records)
