Κυκλοφόρησε το 12o τεύχος του Lung Υπάρχει άραγε λόγος στο σημερινό ψηφιοποιημένο μας κόσμο να διαβάζει κάνεις για μουσική σε χαρτί; Το Lung Fanzine κλείνοντας 3 χρόνια και 12 τεύχη απαντά με έμφαση καταφατικά! Στο τεύχος Δεκεμβρίου θα βρείτε την δισκογραφική ανασκόπηση της χρονιάς που πέρασε όπως την είδαν οι συντάκτες του περιοδικού. Τους Σκωτσεζους Arab Strap, που η δισκογραφική τους επιστροφή ενθουσίασε τη συντακτική μας ομάδα να μοιράζονται το (διπλό) εξώφυλλο του τεύχους με την πάντα παθιασμένη PJ Harvey της οποίας η πορεία ξεδιπλώνεται στο 6σελιδο σχετικό αφιέρωμα. Μια ιδιαίτερη συνέντευξη με τους slowcore ήρωες Low, θέματα για τη Lingua Ignota, τους Hawkwind, τους Idles, την Grouper, τους Talk Talk και πολλά πολλά ακόμη που απλώνονται στις 96 πυκνογραμμένες σελίδες του. Όπως και κάθε τεύχος του Lung, έτσι και το 12ο, δεν διαβάζεται μόνο αλλά ακούγεται κιόλας. Almost 30 years since their inception, the members of Engine Kid got together a few months ago to hang out and record new music. The result of which arrives by way of the "Special Olympics" EP flexi disc/digital EP on 3rd December via Southern Lord. Some fans may recognize the song "Special Olympics" which, like others on this release, are reworkings of old material which were never recorded. The music represents the sonic direction that the band were heading before they disbanded. With this EP, Engine Kid commemorate the joy of playing music together for the first time in 26 years, and pick up where they left off. As Jade Devitt comments, "The musical commitment and connection that we forged in the 90’s has held like a magnet, finally pulling us together after 26 years! The newly recorded songs were dusted off blueprints from our very last practice tapes from the summer of ’95. Now enhanced with experience & age and new arrangements. The Kid flies again." Earlier this year, the 90’s post-hardcore collective featuring Greg Anderson (Southern Lord label owner, also in Sunn O))), Goatsnake & Thorr's Hammer) released a 6-LP box set of their career-spanning recordings on color vinyl LP's for the first time titled Everything Left Inside (find out more about that here) Engine Kid’s Brian Kraft adds, "Greg, Jade and I spent the summer and fall of 2020 gathering old photos, flyers, artwork and audio rehearsals /remixes/remasters for the Everything Left Inside box set. This remote reunion of the Kid made me realize how important Greg, Jade and Engine Kid was and is in my life. The reconnection led to recording some new material. It felt as if we were continuing right where we left off.” Engine Kid’s first new material since 1995, the “Special Olympics” EP’s cover art is a symbolic metaphor about living one's best life, and with swagger. " Polish death 'n' rollers Daymares put together a decent debut in their 2007 release, Can't Get Us All. They fused crusty punk, metal and death 'n' roll (a-la Entombed) to craft eleven rockin' tracks for SelfMadeGod Records that certainly were chock full of attitude and their latest EP, the six track Toothless & Fanged continues on from where the band left us last time, and even includes a Neurosis cover as well. It's a punked fuelled fiery opener in Annuit Coeptis that sets the scene and reminds me just why I dug their debut. The slower parts only add to the tracks intensity when it kicks up a few gears, and is just the right length to make a solid impact. Fury levels increase on the gang vocal heavy Never Relent which is more punk than anything else and that attitude carries over seamlessly to the fun as hell Who Laughs Last. The longest track, the epic four plus minute Words One Loves To Hate swaps pace for groove and it works a treat and certainly injects something new into the EP before the short, sharp title track, Toothless & Fanged, rolls up a healthy balance of the group's main influences - punk and death 'n' roll. The EP is rounded out with the group's cover of the Neurosis track Life On Your Knees (which originally appeared the group's first album, Pain Of Mind) which fits the band's mantra like a glove. Toothless & Fanged is another fine effort from this Polish group. If their debut floated your boat, then this EP will as well. It's that simple." (Get By Records)

Taking influence from Black Flag, Dead Boys, Bad Brains, and Thrasher magazine -- as well as pizza and beer -- Cerebral Ballzy were formed by five Brooklyn skaters who were nostalgic for early-‘80s speed metal and hardcore punk. In 2010, Mel, Honor, Mason, Jason, and Abe started getting together to play music as fast as humanly possible, and while doing so in their practice space, they came up with songs like "Underage Drink Forever," "Puke Song," and "Skate All Day." Cerebral Ballzy's debut 7", You’re Idle, was released on Article Records and came packaged in a sandpapery sleeve (à la The Return of the Durutti Column) made of hand-stenciled skateboard grip-tape. After playing for only six months together, the band inked a deal with Vice Records, who released their self-titled full-length debut in 2011. Receiving positive reviews for their brattish take on classic '80s hardcore, the group headed out in support of the record, taking on a full tour of the U.S. as well as dates at key European festivals such as Pukklepop, Roskilde, Reading, and Leeds. Returning to the studio in 2013 with TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek, the band set about recording their sophomore release, Jaded & Faded. Two-song flexi from this much-hyped New York band which preserves the two tracks from their recent promo cassette on a slightly more permanent format. It’s easy to see why people respond so strongly to Krimewatch, because they take a tried and true sound—their music has a very similar combination of primitiveness and power as early Agnostic Front—and update it with lyrical content and a visual aesthetic that reflects the political and social priorities of the (lowercase) youth of today. I know there are a lot of haters out there who don’t think this band “deserves” the attention they’ve gotten based on their limited output (I think these two songs bring their full discography up to about 7 minutes in length), but I really couldn’t care less about that debate. There’s an undeniable spark here, and while it’s hard for me to point out what, precisely, elevates this band above the legions with a similar approach, it’s obvious that a lot of other people hear it too. Following the signing of North American hardcore group SECT to Southern Lord earlier this year, the band has since completed recording their second full-length, and label debut, No Cure For Death, and with plans to release the album on November 24th. No Cure For Death was recorded with Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studios and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music. Comprised of an international cast of scene veterans, who cut their teeth in that formative moment of political, cynical, antagonistic extremes, SECT unites vocalist Chris Colohan (Cursed, Burning Love, Left For Dead), guitarists James Chang (Catharsis, Undying) and Scott Crouse (Earth Crisis, The Path Of Resistance), bassist Steve Hart (Day Of Suffering), and drummer Andy Hurley (Racetraitor, Fall Out Boy, The Damned Things). Στο Lung δεν είμαστε προληπτικοί οπότε βάλαμε σαν στόχο το 13ο τεύχος να είναι το πιο πλούσιο στη μέχρι σήμερα διαδρομή του εντύπου μας. Το νέο -συλλεκτικό- τεύχος είναι αφιερωμένο εξ ολόκληρου στην εναλλακτική σκηνή των '90s, μια περίοδο μαγική για όσους την βίωσαν, ειδικά σε νεανική ηλικία. Εντός του θα βρείτε μια λίστα με 150 αγαπημένα ανεξάρτητα άλμπουμ, όπως τα ψήφισε η συντακτική ομάδα του fanzine καθώς και συνεντεύξεις με προσωπικότητες που έζησαν από πρώτο χέρι εκείνη τη εποχή. Το να βρεθεί ένας ολάνθιστης σκέψης και μουσικής πράξης συνθέτης εκτός των στενών συνόρων της πραγματικής αλλά και ηχητικής του πατρίδας, είναι κάτι που εύχεται ο κάθε ακροατής που τείνει ώτα στο ελευθεριακό και νεόκοπο, ακόμα και αν αυτό είναι ουτοπικό. Ο Μάστερ Μπαζίλ πετάει στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, στη Βρετανία, στη (Δυτική τότε) Γερμανία και στη Γαλλία, για να συναντήσει και να συνομιλήσει με τον Μάικ Μπλούμφιλντ, τον Μπράιαν Ίνο, τον Καρλ Μπάρτος των Kraftwerk, τον Κέβιν Άιερς των Soft Machine, τον Ρίτσι Μπλάκμορ και την Λόρι Άντερσον μεταξύ (πολλών) άλλων, δηλαδή με μουσικές προσωπικότητες οι οποίες διαμόρφωσαν το τοπίο της νεανικής κουλτούρας της δεκαετίας του '70 και μέχρι τις αρχές της δεκαετίας του '80. Παράλληλα σε καίρια σημεία της αφήγησης εμφανίζονται άτλαντες της αντίστοιχης χρονικής περιόδου στην Ελλάδα. Το Lung Fanzine επιστρέφει με το 17ο τεύχος του! Στο εξώφυλλο του φιλοξενούνται οι Yo La Tengo και η εμβληματική Creep Records!
