THE PIRANHAS | same title | LP

Original price was: €18.00.Current price is: €13.00. incl. tax
The Piranhas were a British ska-influenced punk band from Brighton. The Piranhas formed in 1977, and were originally part of the Brighton punk scene, first coming to prominence when DJ John Peel started playing their single "I Don't Want My Body" on his BBC Radio 1 programme, but achieved their biggest success with their cover version of the South African kwela song "Tom Hark". Recorded in March 1980 at Pebble Beach studios Worthing, England. The album was due to be released on Attrix Records as RB09 but was never issued as the band signed to Sire shortly after the recording and the album was shelved. Four white label test pressings are known to have existed housed in black & white, colour-by-numbers caricature sleeves. Spoof replica Tesco's/Piranhas carrier-bag's were printed for the album to be sold in at the Attrix shop in Brighton. (Mad Butcher Classics)

    MALE | zensur & zensur | CD

Original price was: €17.00.Current price is: €13.00. incl. tax
After 40 years, the legendary album "Zensur & Zensur" from Germany's first punk band MALE will be reissued! It was years when everything was new, everything was possible. Between 1977 and 1979, a punk scene developed in Düsseldorf that was second to none, and MALE created a timeless piece of German music history. In 1977 I was irresistibly drawn to this new thing, punk, and since Bilk was one of the germ cells of the movement, I was lucky enough to experience everything up close. I'd seen her here and there, lanky guys with spiky hair shuffling through the neighborhood in long coats. Word of mouth brought me to an auditorium, and MALE was a real revelation among all the boring Stones cover bands! Loud, snotty, new, different! A gig that ended in a spectacular end at the time with the burning of the German flag. (Wolf Lauenroth (Dieter Zensur)) Tracks 1-14 first released in 1979 as Zensur & Zensur as numbered and limited LP on Modell Musik. Tracks 15 and 16 first released in 1979 on the Clever & Smart 7" on Rondo. Track 17 first released in 1995 on the Male compilation CD on Teenage Rebel Records. Track 18 first released in 1991 on the Die Toten Hosen Ihre Party 7" on Teenage Rebel Records. Tracks 19 - 21 first released in 1980 on the compilation In Die Zukunft LP on Konnekschen. Track 22 first released in 1990 on the compilation Ein Tausendstel Düsseldorf 7" on Teenage Rebel Records. (Tapete Records ‎– TR447)

MARTHA HIGH | singing for the good times | LP

Original price was: €18.00.Current price is: €13.00. incl. tax
Martha High, who sang on stage with James Brown for 30 years and was his longest-running female vocalist, is stepping back into the spotlight for a new solo album. Martha HighSinging For The Good Times will be released on 22 April June on Blind Faith Records. The lead track from the album is 'Lovelight,' for which the radio impact date is 10 March. It's a welcome solo flight for High, now 71, who tours the world regularly as the lead singer with the band of Maceo Parker, another longtime acolyte of the Godfather of Soul. High's credentials as one of Brown's most trusted allies, and as part of his historic contribution to the history of soul music are unimpeachable. She was with him and the JBs at their celebrated concert at the Boston Garden in April 1968 james-brown-boston-1968on the night after Martin Luther King's assassination, when Brown prevented further rioting with his sheer stage presence and positive message. Martha was also by JB's side at such famous occasions as his courageous trip to Vietnam to entertain the American troops, and at the Rumble In The Jungle concert in Zaire, attended by 60,000 people, ahead of the George Foreman – Muhammad Ali fight of the same name in Kinshasa. james-brown-payback-label-45-masterBrown rarely used other solo voices in his prolific recorded output, with the exception of Bobby Byrd, but High sings on the 1968 live recording of 'There Was A Time' featured on the Star Time box set. She's the striking vocalist at the beginning of his 1974 US R&B No. 1 'The Payback,' and appears on the 1976 hit 'Body Heat.' Singing For The Good Times, recorded completely in analog for added authenticity, contains 11 original tracks, written, produced and arranged by Italian soul man Luca Sapio and his crew. THE HIGHSPEED V | demented r&b | LP

Original price was: €18.00.Current price is: €13.00. incl. tax
Although they existed for only a year, the Highspeed V made enough of a mark on Stockholm’s pioneering neo-garage scene for their name and music to live on several decades later. Along with the Livingstones and the Wylde Mammoths the Highspeed V were a local ‘second wave’ outfit, forming in the Spring 1986 as a combination of experienced players and newcomers to the garage punk circuit. Bass-player/vocalist Jens Lindberg and harmonica cat Henrik Orrje both came from the notorious Crimson Shadows, a first-wave group whose story and recordings can be found on a recent Groovie Records sampler. ‘Crimson’ (as they were known locally) folded in March ’86 after two outstanding 45s and a series of alcohol-fuelled concerts, the last of which ended with a band member getting beaten up by the police. To us young fans, Crimson’s falling apart seemed a serious blow to the whole scene, but we were happy to soon learn otherwise. During the preceding year the Stockholm underground had spawned numerous young moptops who lived by Pebbles anthems and Back From The Grave 3-chord grunge, and who patterned their look on Sunset Strip ’66 rather than the familiar British mod style. In such a thriving milieu the split-up of the great Crimson Shadows became a mere bump in the road, as new bands and new horizons emerged. This LP brings all the HIGHSPEED V recordings along with some unreleased demos. A insert with rare photos, full story of Stockolm neo-garage scene and family tree by Patrick Lundborg, Author of The Acid Archives and Psychedelia books. Black Flag With Henry Rollins & Chuck Biscuits – Live At The On Broadway (July 23-24-1982) “Black Flag always ran into inumerous problems during their tours. Playing shows that were shut down by cops, club owners that didn’t pay them, bouncers breaking the windows of the van, people stealing from the band, and for instance when the van caught fire and Chuck had to go underneath the van with a pillow to put the fire out before it destroyed all of their equipment.” Incredible live performance in New York in ‘82, in a time when Black Flag were under legal problems with the record label and could only tour for a living. Some records so perfectly capture an artist at a critical point in their creativity, and make such an impact, that they become not just synonymous with the band, but an essential piece of music history. Such is the case with Shock Troops, the album that not only became Cock Sparrer’s most acclaimed record, but a defining moment for Oi!, punk rock, and underground music in general! Originally released by Razor Records in 1983, Shock Troops proved to consist of song after song which would each become anthems of the burgeoning Oi! scene and far beyond. From the opening of “Where Are They Now?” on through “Take ‘Em All,” “We’re Coming Back,” all the way to the closing chords of “Out On An Island,” there isn’t a song in the bunch that any self respecting punk rocker can’t shout along to. These working class anthems are just as vital today, as proven by the crowds of beloved fans worldwide that continue to go wild at Sparrer’s live shows, where Shock Troops tracks still make up the heart of their setlists. Re-writing the rule book when it came to punk requisites, Leatherface combined passion, angst and power with undeniable songwriting and technical prowess. Led by wordsmith Frankie Stubbs their explosive hooks and thrashing guitars quickly became their trademark and made them one of the most exhilarating UK bands of the 90s. Arriving at the peak of their career, Minx channelled Stubbs’ love for Joy Division and features their much loved fourth bassist, former Snuff band member Andy Crichton. A lost classic, it brought with it a more emotional direction to their sound which was released on the brink of the band’s hiatus. Label: Call of The Void Records Barcode: 809236190529

Hardcore punk band formed in Victoria, B.C./ Canada in 1980. Dayglo's "Feed Us A Fetus" is their second full-length album, originally released in 1986. This is hands-down, the best Canadian punk record to emerge from the 80's!! Aside from collecting most of the songs from their first 12? record entitled "Out Of The Womb" (1981), it also contains many brand new songs (at the time) that were even better than those on the first album. Many of their classic punk anthems are captured on this vinyl and Unrest Records is the sixth label to release the album over the years, which is a testament to what a classic it really is. There should be one of these in every punk rocker's record collection. Don't miss out!! Tracks 1 to A10 Recorded 1985, Legacy Studios, Victoria B.C. • Out from a concept of misery and suffering, our feeble and dying world is the subject of a new hymn to its demise. “Mortal Coil” is Dödsrit's third full-length, featured on a yet short career though wholly filled with soul-drenching moments. Featuring four tracks, Dödsrit's "Mortal Coil" hails the smothering ashes of purgatory's flames by forging a wall of soultearing riffing, blistering belligerence conjoining melody with aggression, a genuine blaze of cacophony and heart-wrenching melancholy. Consuming all in its path, this relentless maelstrom of grief finds its vision on the thunderous production - utterly powerful and blisteringly organic in all its dynamism. Such sonic virtues get sheerly enhanced by the lively rhythmic section and uncompromised ferocity. Whether on blastbeating outbreaks, D-beat infused vigour, or further atmospheric escapades, pulsing impulses carry an expression and sense of craftsmanship that amazingly translate emotions into cataclysmic beats. Drenched in anguish, a scourged narrator of tragedies spews every single word with the blood and fiery distress of a heart burdened by the weight of our sorrowed existence, a shivering performance of a tongue absorbed in the (dis)comfort of eternal grief. Out under the banner of Wolves of Hades on Vinyl & CD, and The Hell Command on Cassette, “Mortal Coil” is a eulogy to the world in flames - to the hell we call our home. • Alcohol infused Crossover Thrash, finally available again! The second album from Wehrmacht, “Biermächt” saw the band maturing while still retaining their Thrashcore roots. Released in mid-1988, “Biermächt” featured a slightly cleaner production than the one found on their debut album. To some fans this rendered the album with much less intensity, but to our ears the sound was still very powerful. The massive reverb used on the first album made “Shark Attack” sound like a true shark attack and only added to the overall intensity. This time around the drums are more compressed and some blast beat parts tend to get lost in the overall blur of things. But on the same token, the guitars are much sharper sounding. Marco Zorich and John Duffy were truly evolving as guitar heroes. The thing that is really great and different compared to “Shark Attack” are the funny bit songs. We love them and enjoy them. A lot of the songs on “Biermächt” were leftovers from their demo days, including the phenomenal “Night Of Pain”, one of our all time favorite Thrash songs ever, but newer stuff like “Radical Dissection” and “Balance Of Opinion” showed the band handling a more mainstream Thrash sound somewhere in the middle of a Slayer/Kreator sound and Metallica/Megadeth. There is a certain progressiveness to those songs that hint to a more elaborate musical future. “Biermächt” is a very strong Crossover/Thrash album with a laid back party vibe to it. The sound, however, is very in-your-face. This is not a subtle album by any means. It’s not that they were the funniest bunch around (their side project Spazztic Blurr went a lot further). But Wehrmacht did have their own specific sound (mostly because of the vocals and guitars). Especially after all these years it becomes obvious all Crossover lovers and Thrashers from those days do in fact have this album and hold it dearly. The album has historic importance as well as huge sentimental value. Biermächt is a landmark in eighties Crossover Thrash and should be checked out immediately by all newbies. Issued in a jewelcase with a transparent CD tray. Comes with a 12-page booklet. CD2 is a bonus CD. • Crossover Thrash masterpiece, finally available again! A question popular among followers of Thrash Metal is undeniably this, “Which is considered the fastest Thrash Metal album of all time?”. There would be a high percentage of answers supporting “Reign In Blood”, Darkness Descends” or “Pleasure To Kill”. Now here’s a startling reality. Wehrmacht’s debut album makes those albums sound as if they were meant to be listed under progressive Metal. The sheer ferocity of these guys is enough to convince you why they were considered the fastest Heavy Metal band in the underground. So what is it that makes this record worthy of being called an underground classic? Right from production to musicianship, the concoction of several different ideas results into one colossal and inevitably unique style of their own. Many of you would probably wonder that there might just be a natural leaning towards sloppy playing especially considering my description of their astoundingly fast nature earlier. But the major surprise here is that all the musicians are extremely tight and precise with no single riff, solo or beat falling out of place. Tito Matos is one of the most versatile Thrash singers one has ever heard till date. His clarity of words and ability to keep up with the rest of the band with his lightning fast singing is simply commendable. The songs in here are all ridiculously speedy pieces of Thrash Metal with practically little or no remorse for the listener. The title track with that brilliant rendition of the famously eerie “Jaws” theme kicks off the onslaught with a tearing main riff that shreds away with speed and precision. Teutonic, Bay Area and a few east coast Thrash Metal bands have been instrumental in forging the whole genre altogether but taking the intensity a couple of notches higher was undoubtedly achieved by bands like Cryptic Slaughter, Soothsayer and finally Wehrmacht. For a year that was 1987, “Shark Attack” was way ahead of its time and has been highly regarded as the release that influenced many a band in the Grindcore and Black Metal genres. To testify this statement of mine, U.K Grindcore pioneers Napalm Death have covered Wehrmacht on one of their studio compilations, thus proving the exemplary effect this band had in the years to come. Yet the irony still stands out as to why only the most devoted of Thrash Metal/Crossover freaks know about this band. As for some of you guys, quit wasting your time listening to the senseless offshoots of Grindcore and shitty Black Metal and get a hold of this classic instead. Issued in a jewelcase with a transparent CD tray. Comes with a 12-page booklet. CD2 is a bonus CD. • Raspberry Dawn is weird, wired and quite possibly the holy grail for those looking for radical rock reinvention and new sensations in the current era. Twisted like Bauhaus meets Celtic Frost. Okkultokrati sound like they’re playing to you from a different dimension. On Raspberry Dawn, Okkultokrati thrust the hectic rock and roll that they have cultivated since their 2008 inception into more extraordinary situations. Classic 70s riffing, snotty punk and brash old school metal are inventively mixed with pulses and spikes of dark wave and ice cold, psychedelic repetition. They execute these infectious tunes effortlessly, playing with the attitude they retained from their roots in rural hard rock and busting a propulsive stomp that aligns them closer to the clarity of recordings from decades past, also exemplified by spring reverb twangs that ping across the mix like rubber bands. This new LP is without a doubt a giant bound forward from Snakereigns and Night Jerks, and one that will surely lasso in more inquisitive ears. Whether you’re a devotee of sounds from the underground or in the market for a stadium rock fix, Okkultokrati can somehow satisfy you all. LabeL Southern Lord Records
