  • Everything Sucks is the fifth studio album by American punk rock band the Descendents, released in 1996 through Epitaph Records. It was their first album of new studio material since 1987's All, after which singer Milo Aukerman had left the band to pursue a career in biochemistry. The remaining members (bassist Karl Alvarez, guitarist Stephen Egerton, and drummer Bill Stevenson) had changed the band's name to All and released eight albums between 1988 and 1995 with singers Dave Smalley, Scott Reynolds, and Chad Price.     Descendents’ first Epitaph release since Everything Sucks in 1996, Hypercaffium Spazzinate, began taking shape after the band ended an extended hiatus to play live in 2010. Though still tight, they lived apart: singer Milo Aukerman -- whose cartoon rendering famously serves as the band’s logo -- was now living in Delaware, bassist Karl Alvarez and founder and drummer Bill Stevenson were in Colorado, and guitarist Stephen Egerton had settled in Oklahoma. So the album came to life over three years as the band sent tracks back and forth, occasionally meeting up in Karl and Bill’s adopted hometown of Fort Collins. Adopting such a protracted process meant not having to rush things, allowing for some of their sharpest songwriting yet. (Epitaph Record)

It marked the end of a two-year hiatus for the band, during which singer Milo Aukerman had attended college and drummer Bill Stevenson had joined Black Flag. I Don’t Want to Grow Up was the first of two albums the Descendents recorded with guitarist Ray Cooper, and their last with original bassist Tony Lombardo, who quit the group because he did not want to go on tour. Though recorded quickly and without much rehearsal time, I Don’t Want to Grow Up received positive reviews from critics, who praised its catchy songs, strong melodies, and pop-influenced love songs.   • Destroy All Monsters were a very influential band from Detroit, USA. From 1973 to 1985 they played anti-conformist music with a noisy and arty mix of psychedelic rock & proto punk. The band is known due to involvement of members of MC5 and The Stooges. They described their music as "anti-rock." Destroy All Monsters never found mainstream success, but earned some notoriety due to members of notable rock groups The Stooges and MC5 who joined the group. Although Destroy All Monsters never recorded a proper album, Sonic Youth singer/guitarist Thurston Moore released a three compact disc compilation of the group's music in 1994.     A final repress of the mid ninties classic Skuld release of Portland's DETESTATION. An absolutel classic of nineties anarcho-hardcore punk that sounds like a mix between Nausea & Sacrilege with some influences from old Swedish bands and highly angry socio-political lyrics. Existing between roughly 1995—1998 or so, Detestation was a rather surprisingly prolific group during that time. This repress of the band's 1998 self-titled LP collects some of their finest material. Though the mandatorily interconnected Portland lineup contains pre-/post- ties to Defiance, Masskontroll, Resist, Hellshock, and Severed Head of State, among others, Detestation's rather commonplace brand of 90's crust punk remains a well rooted benchmark for the scene, and with good reason. Thanks in no small part to some scorching female vocals with great vocal arrangements, the band's lightly metallic power chords tended to be a little tighter and more memorable than most, thus Detestation is rightfully remembered as one of the finest of the genre.
