  • Nipple Erectors (and their more politely named abbreviation, the Nips) their first ever legitimate LP vinyl. To be fair, we've been asked many times to do reissue the Nips on vinyl down the years. So, what you get on this new Nipathon LP are both sides of each of the group's three Soho singles, each one a perfect example of Great British Punk. Plus you have two tracks - again from the first sessions - that saw light of day for the first time on the vinyl BBB+B. You also get the young Shane MacGowan in fine growling form, a young and renowned punk about town and still very much the "King Of The Bop" rather than the "King Of The (alcoholic) Pop" that he later became in his years as a Professional Irishman and frontsperson of Pogue Mahone/The Pogues. (Now there's a good bit of trivia for you - Shane might well be the only person in the world to have fronted two bands that have had to shorten their name to avoid public outrage, and to get their records played on the radio!). You also get Shane's then best gal Shanne Bradley, fresh from being preserved for posterity (allegedly) as the subject of the Sex Pistols' mighty Satellite and learning to become the pretty good bass player that she eventually did become as a member of the Pogues' 80s contemporaries the Men They Couldn't Hang. You get 20-odd minutes of uproarious music that has stood the test of time rather better than has a lot of 1978's 'new wave' outpourings - including at least two undisputed genre classics in the anthemic (Gab-gab-gab) Gabrielle and the wild garage riffola of All The Time In The World. And, most of all, you get the musical answer to Mr MacGowan's time-honoured question that's been baffling music historians for a quarter of a century, "Why do - theycallmethekingofthabop?" No need to bother with the answers on a postcard. They're all here. Still want bovver? Then you're in the right place for it. Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough... (Ace Records)
  • Back in 1983 Tokyo’s NURSE released what probably is the first Japanese all female hardcore record on the cult label Incest Records (INC-002). A red 7” Flexi which showed 4 innocent looking girls on the cover but displayed an unheard amount of ferocious hard hitting hardcore punk on the 8 songs Flexi produced by Baki of EXECUTE/ GASTUNK. The Following year the almighty ADK Records added them to their roster releasing a 5 track EP (ADK-13E ) produced by label owner Tam of TYPHUS/ STALIN fame. The speed went down a notch but the rawness and aggression was still there. Sadly that record marked the end of NURSE’s recording career. Had they released an LP they’ll be heralded as highly as COMES which usually is the first band that comes to mind to most people when thinking of female fronted Japanese bands. After years of their recordings been deleted on vinyl, both singles becoming absolute staples on any Japanese punk want list and the band’s underground following growing, La Vida Es Un Mus decided to repress both 7”s on a heavy weight LP to make sure a new generation discover the excellence of one of the all time great under rated bands. (La Vida En Us Mus Records)
  • This is the repress of the first Observers ep, which was originally released on Super Secret Records (500 made) last year. Tracks include: 'Lead Pill', 'Can't Be Sad', 'Short Day' and 'Normally Normal'. Their album on Vinyl Warning made the majority of the top ten best albums of 2004 in MRR and for obvious reasons, this band is incredible. For fans of the Dead Kennedys, LA's Youth Brigade, and Warsaw. (Deranged Records)

  • "Presented on 140-GRAM VINYL, this is a deluxe release of an Australian radio broadcast live recording from The Offspring's classic 1995 tour." No strangers to the live scene, The Offspring leapt at the chance to capitalise on their newfound success, and the ?Smash Tour 1995? spanned a staggering 214 dates worldwide between 1994 and 1996. These gigs were received particularly well in Australia, the one country where Smash had topped the charts. The band played 11 shows there in 1995, many of which were subject to live FM broadcasts, both nationally and in the US, and it is a collection of the best of these that features of this deluxe vinyl release. Gathering together a wide array of classics from their catalogue, including their three recent singles, this set showcases a band hurtling towards international fame. (Parachute Recordings Company)

THE OFFSPRING | smash | LP

    20.00 incl. tax
The Offspring's metal-inflected punk became a popular sensation in 1994, selling over four million albums on an independent record label. While the group's credentials and approach follow the indie rock tradition of the '80s, sonically they sound more like an edgy, hard-driving heavy metal band, with their precise, pulsing power chords and Dexter Holland's flat vocals. Featuring Holland, guitarist Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman, bassist Greg Kriesel, and drummer Ron Welty, the Offspring released their self-titled debut album in 1989. Four years later, their second album, Ignition, became an underground hit, setting the stage for the across-the-board success of 1994's Smash, which still holds the record as the biggest selling indie release of all time. 'Self Conscious Over You' (Good Vibrations, 1979) was recorded over 5 days at Wizard Studios in Belfast in April 1979 and released 3 months later. • Finally reissued on vinyl! For their second album, first wave U.K. punks the Outsiders decided to move on from the home-recorded D.I.Y. sound of their first LP and ventured into a proper recording studio for the first time. However, they didn't use the occasion to slather gloss on their music, and while 1978's Close Up does sound cleaner, richer, and more precise than 1977's Calling on Youth, the production is admirably lean and straightforward, and if anything, the arrangements are less tricked up than on the group's debut, with fewer acoustic guitar overdubs and a sleek, speedier approach that makes room for Adrian Borland's guitar heroics. By this point in the Outsiders' career, Borland was reportedly growing tired of the confines of the punk template (he'd break up the band to form the Sound before the year was out), and in many respects, Close Up sounds as much post-punk as punk; there are a few straightforward pogo rockers like "Vital Hours," "Count for Something," and "Out of Place," but the phase-shifted atmospherics and anti-racist lyrics of "White Dept." point to a more musically ambitious vision, while the slower, blues-infused "Keep the Pain Inside" snubs its nose at punk orthodoxy, and the nervous social commentary of "Semi-Detached Life" and "Conspiracy of War" are short on sloganeering and long on thoughtful observations of an off-kilter world. While Borland was clearly feeling his oats as a soloist, his melodies here are smart, strong, and to the point, while his vocals are effective and free of pretense, and bassist Bob Lawrence and drummer Adrian James are a splendid rhythm section, adding just the right amount of texture and color while driving the songs with authority and no-frills style. Close Up hardly sounds like the work of a band on its last legs; this is powerful, efficient rock & roll that has aged far more gracefully than most of the bands in the U.K. punk class of 1978. A Gothic Horror novel about severe mental distress and punk rock. The novel is written in the form of a diary kept by a psychiatrist, Dr. Rodney H. Dweller, concerning his patient, Nathaniel Snoxell, brought to him in 1979 because of several attempted suicides. Snoxell gets involved in the nascent UK anarcho-punk scene, recording EPs and playing gigs in squatted Anarchy Centers. In 1985, the good doctor himself “goes insane” and disappears. This semi-autobiographical novel from Rudimentary Peni singer, guitarist, lyricist, and illustrator Nick Blinko, plunges into the worlds of madness, suicide, and anarchist punk. Lovecraft meets Crass in the squats and psychiatric institutions of early ‘80s England. This new edition collects Blinko’s long sought after artwork from the three previous incarnations. Praise: “Dense, haunted, shot through with black humour.” —Raw Vision “Nick Blinko is a madman. That’s not intended as pejorative opinion but rather a statement of plain fact.” —Maximum RocknRoll “The insights it offers into the punk scene and into the unsettling landscapes of its author’s mind are fascinating. The whole book has a distinct sense of coming from a mind unlike most we are used to.” —The Big Issue “An intensely written and authentically Gothic look at the life of a man suffering extreme mental distress.” —Detour “Fascinating and compelling.” —Kerrang About the Author: Nick Blinko was born in 1961. His band, Rudimentary Peni, whose records include Death Church, Cacophony, and Pope Adrian 37th, enjoy international acclaim in punk and avant-garde circles. • One of the best political hardcore punk bands to come out of the Boston area of all time, The Proletariat originally released their "Soma Holiday" LP in 1983 on Non-U/Radiobeat. Drawing on Marxist and socialist views they created a very original, uncompromising, angry, and bleak message set to the backdrop of intense hardcore. You may have heard their tracks off of the comps "This Is Boston, Not L.A.," "Unsafe At Any Speed," and "P.E.A.C.E." (Fan Club/Unofficial Release)

THE SONICS | boom | LP

    22.00 incl. tax
We follow or recent reissue of “Here Are The Sonics!” with a 180g black vinyl replica of “Boom”, the band’s second album. Originally released in 1966 on Etiquette Records in wonderful mono, “Boom” still does much more than merely deliver on the promise of their debut. Few records have ever packed as much of a musical punch from start to finish, offering a representation of what the Sonics must have sounded like at the peak of their powers. Recorded in the most glorious no-fi you could ever wish for, and with anthemic originals such as ‘Cinderella’ and ‘He’s Waitin’’ vying for attention with what is possibly the most violent version of ‘Louie Louie’ there will ever be, “Boom” is an album that has always justified the esteem in which it is held by collectors around the globe. All the modern bumph like barcodes and whatnot is on a disposable sticker, leaving your copy of “Boom” as original as possible. (Big Beat Records)
  • The return of the legendary Sonics with their first studio album of new material since 1967! Formed in Tacoma Washington in 1960, they are a major influence on garage, punk and rock music worldwide, and cited as an inspiration by Nirvana, The Fall and many others. "This Is The Sonics" reunites original members Jerry Roslie, Larry Parypa and Rob Lind, backed by the powerhouse rhythm section of Freddie Dennis (The Kingsmen, The Liverpool Five) and Dusty Watson (Dick Dale, Agent Orange). Broken up in 1967, The Sonics legacy remained frozen in time with classics like "Psycho," "Strychnine," and "Have Love, Will Travel", awaiting discovery and directly inspiring generations of garage bands the world over. "This Is The Sonics" picks up where they left off. Recorded in "Earth Shaking Mono" by producer Jim Diamond, known for his work with the White Stripes, and The Dirtbombs. (Re-vox Records)
  • THE SOUND | jeopardy | LP

    18.00 incl. tax
Formed in 1979 and fronted by the mercurial and troubled Adrian Borland (he would commit suicide in 1999 after years of battling depression), The Sound are one of the most unjustly neglected bands of the ’80s. They may not be as well-known as their contemporaries Echo & the Bunnymen or Joy Division, but their contributions to the first wave of English post-punk are as equally unique and influential. Fed up with its simplistic structure and rote posturing, Borland cut ties to the punk movement after fronting ’77-era group The Outsiders. Not unlike Magazine’s Howard Devoto, whose similar inclinations led to his leaving The Buzzcocks, Borland wanted to create a sound that relied more on atmospheres, tensions and instrumental interplay while harnessing the urgency of punk’s spirit. With the release of Jeopardy, The Sound turns this inspiration into a nearly perfect debut. Featuring rough-edged production fitting its £800 recording budget, Jeopardy is a caustic rush, full of songs with hooks and emotional impact that never resort to histrionics. The album’s opener starts off minimally, until the nervy guitars of the chorus rip through the song. This auspicious beginning only hints at what’s to come. Every song that follows builds on the momentum of a complex pop masterpiece. Borland’s lyrics also prove him to be one of the few post-punk songwriters whose words are worth poring over and analyzing. The album received extremely positive reviews, with NME, Sounds and Melody Maker all bestowing their highest ratings, and influential British DJ John Peel welcomed the band into the studio to record a session. All of the critical praise heaped on the band makes it hard to explain why The Sound never rose to the prominence of the two bands to whom they received the most comparisons, but one only need to listen to Jeopardy to hear Borland’s perfect combination of Joy Division’s dark, tortured angst and Echo & the Bunnymen’s accessible glam/art-rock fusion. The debut album from 1969 was immense, but nothing could quite prepare you for the brutal masterpiece that is Funhouse. It is something that is neither pretty nor wholesome, and it succeeds almost entirely on the powerful chemistry at work. Iggy screams, shouts, yelps, and grunts over a barrage of simplistic music with simplistic lyrics and, at times, no music at all (La Blues). Other great tunes present here are Down on the Street, the excellent opener, 1970, a perfect proto-punk anthem, and the title track, simply one of the finest, rawest, most visceral songs ever recorded. This is one of the best albums of all time. if you have any blood in your veins, buy a copy and you won't be disappointed.

  • Crass was the anarcho-punk face of a revolutionary movement founded by radical thinkers and artists Penny Rimbaud, Gee Vaucher, and Steve Ignorant. When punk ruled the waves, Crass waived the rules and took it further, putting out their own records, films, and magazines and setting up a series of situationist pranks that were dutifully covered by the world’s press. Not just another iconoclastic band, Crass was a musical, social, and political phenomenon. Commune dwellers who were rarely photographed and remained contemptuous of conventional pop stardom; their members explored and finally exhausted the possibilities of punk-led anarchy. They have at last collaborated on telling the whole Crass story, giving access to many never-before-seen photos and interviews.
