Almost 30 years since their inception, the members of Engine Kid got together a few months ago to hang out and record new music. The result of which arrives by way of the "Special Olympics" EP flexi disc/digital EP on 3rd December via Southern Lord. Some fans may recognize the song "Special Olympics" which, like others on this release, are reworkings of old material which were never recorded. The music represents the sonic direction that the band were heading before they disbanded. With this EP, Engine Kid commemorate the joy of playing music together for the first time in 26 years, and pick up where they left off. As Jade Devitt comments, "The musical commitment and connection that we forged in the 90’s has held like a magnet, finally pulling us together after 26 years! The newly recorded songs were dusted off blueprints from our very last practice tapes from the summer of ’95. Now enhanced with experience & age and new arrangements. The Kid flies again." Earlier this year, the 90’s post-hardcore collective featuring Greg Anderson (Southern Lord label owner, also in Sunn O))), Goatsnake & Thorr's Hammer) released a 6-LP box set of their career-spanning recordings on color vinyl LP's for the first time titled Everything Left Inside (find out more about that here) Engine Kid’s Brian Kraft adds, "Greg, Jade and I spent the summer and fall of 2020 gathering old photos, flyers, artwork and audio rehearsals /remixes/remasters for the Everything Left Inside box set. This remote reunion of the Kid made me realize how important Greg, Jade and Engine Kid was and is in my life. The reconnection led to recording some new material. After debut Invasion of the Porky Men, original vocalist Wakey was replaced by former Ultraviolent frontman, Ade Bailey, the inclusion of Destructors guitarist Gizz Butt pointing to the new metal direction fully mined on Forward Into Battle, Butt’s flighty riffs lifting the thrash bedrock to further heights of melodicism. A true must. This is just one of those records you HAVE to hear. The Spanish punk band. This is their 1986 sophomore LP. A great mix of songs about depression, drugs, boredom etc. ranging from slow depressing "Historia Triste", "Cuidado", "Cerebros Destruidos", to the chaotic pogo "De ti Depende", "Anti-Todo", "Haciendo Bobadas" and to the disco (and utterly awesome!) "Matar la Musica". Definitely a classic! Coming from Bilbao in the Basque country of Spain with formidable and impressive contemporaries such as RIP, MG-15, IV REICH and ULTIMO RESORTE, ESKORBUTO still comes out ahead of them all becoming one of the most influential bands ever in Spain and South America. Snotty, nihilistic, misanthropic; these guys really didn't give a fuck. Following the live fast and die style the two definitive members of ESKORBUTO, Jualma and Iosu, overdosed on heroin. EVERYTHING FALLS APART was a short-lived punk band from Munich, u. a. with two members of ZSD, which existed just under a year before the end of 1986, at the very time bands such as Spermbirds, Skeezicks, Hostages of Ayatollah or Combat Not Conform with American-influenced hardcore provided movement in the scene. „Lost in Limbo“ features a complete retrospective and includes the seven songs that were posthumously released on the 1987 split-LP on Double-A and X-Mist, the piece from the „Viva Umkhonto!“ Sampler and a unreleased Song from the same session plus a selection of live pieces, including cover versions of pieces by Government Issue, The Freeze and Minor Threat. Ex-Cathedra are an anarcho punk band from Glasgow, Scotland. They got together in 1991 and in late 1993 we heard about them after buying a copy of their first single on their own label. We did a single 'Tresspass' and then offered them an album. Their debut album, 'Tartan Material' was produced by Frankie (Leatherface) Stubbs. Excarnated Entity was stillborn under lifeless skies in the year 2018. Originally hailing from Seattle, the quartet features current and former members of Anhedonist and Triumvir Foul. From the beginning, Excarnated Entity‘s aim has been to deliver desolate-yet-powerful DEATH METAL DOOM. They self-released their Stillborn in Ash demo in May 2019, which quickly caught the attention of various labels. It immediately got reissued on tape by Extremely Rotten Productions, followed by vinyl and CD reissues on Nuclear Winter with new artwork/design and remixed audio. In mid-2020, Excarnated Entity relocated to Portland, Oregon and underwent a handful of lineup changes before reaching their current formation. With the new lineup in place, work on their debut album was finally completed. Mass Grave Horizon paints a hopeless vision of the future, drearily dredging death metal’s darkest depths and locating majestically miserable doom among those ominously bubbling landscapes. Following a two-minute instrumental introduction, Excarnated Entity kick in with a classic downtuned death metal surge before gutting its underbelly, revealing the morose melodicism of earliest My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost. As the eight-song/44-minute album plays on, its attendant song titles vividly illustrate said vision – “Carcinogen Shroud,” “Corridor of Flame,” and “The Butcher’s Pulpit” among them – and one can further detect shades of Trouble, Cathedral, Solitude Aeturnus lurking within those ruins. It’s a massively dense-yet-spacious sound, and the quartet’s songwriting suitably incorporates slow twists of the knife, but always in a deliberate and linear fashion. And, come climactic closer “Gallery of Defeat,” your fate is sealed and your soul spent…and Excarnated Entity stand stoic, unmoved and unmovable. Label: Nuclear Winter Records
