    BELGRADO | obraz | LP

    17.00 incl. tax
Obraz is a deconstruction of reality to its basic forms and most primitive elements. The starting point after maximum destruction. A reconstruction towards a new reality. The world of images and a thousand spectacles, fragmented, dismantled and reassembled. Dynamism, rhythm, energy and movement. Creative sense over technique. Reality is a construction that we ourselves create. Belgrado delivers a blend of post-punk that takes its influence from many different styles and combines them together into a new form and rhythm. Carefully constructed sound compositions driven by feelingand the senses. Geometrical figures set in motion. Inspired by the mechanical pulse of minimal synth, the hypnotic sounds of dub, the atmosphere of psychedelic and African music, French cold wave and the post-punk classics. • 1997 was the year in which hardcore rediscovered itself. When the US-American legends Better Than A Thousand released their milestone "Just One" back then, it was the sole starting point for the resurgence of the Youth Crew and the Straight Edge movement. Acts like Kid Dynamite, Ten Yard Fight or Bane followed this path, but Better Than A Thousand remain unforgotten as pioneers. More than 20 years later, the band members release reissues of both "Just One" and its successor "Value Driven“ together with End Hits Records, giving fans the chance to experience these immortal records in a completely new splendour. If you want to understand the creative power behind Better Than A Thousand, you only have to look at the biographies of the individual members. Frontman Ray Cappo, as the singer of Youth Of Today, is a veteran of New York hardcore and invented Krishna Core with his band Shelter. He is also (co-)founder of the still influential hardcore labels Revelation Records and Equal Vision Records. Drummer Ken Olden and guitarist Graham Land are known as the masterminds behind hardcore punk heroes Battery. Furthermore, in the early 90s, Olden did pioneer work with Damnation A.D. for the metalcore genre, which is still flourishing today. Better Than A Thousand were born in 1997 out of the love for hardcore. After the dissolution of Battery, Olden and Land want to continue to work together on their music. Cappo, who is at the peak of his career with Shelter, is looking for musical fulfilment away from the major label circus. The result is the eerie, intense hardcore explosion "Just One", which Better Than A Thousand recorded in just five days during a one-week tour break from Shelter. You can clearly hear the efforts of his touring life in Ray’s voice. Again and again his massive vocals collapse under the strain - a circumstance that makes the record's rawness and intensity all the more apparent. The spontaneous side project quickly turns into more and Better Than A Thousand play three world tours and gigs at huge festivals within only two years. They never lose their inimitable DIY spirit during this time: Ray is not actually allowed to produce the second album "Value Driven" because of his contract with Roadrunner, but the band still secretly records the record in Ken's bed and bathroom and then self-releases it as a bootleg. Guitarist and drummer Ken Olden remastered both albums for the Reissues and even recorded additional guitar tracks. Besides the regular album tracks five rare bonus songs were added. The albums are released in different versions both digitally and on vinyl (with poster and download code) and CD (limited to 500 copies). (End Hits Records/2020)

  • Big Black was started by Steve Albini in 1982 while he was attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Lungs, the first Big Black release was recorded by Steve on a borrowed 4-track. He played everything on the EP himself - except the sax bleating courtesy of pal John Bohnen and the drums courtesy of Roland. Soon after, Steve recruited Jeff Pezzati (Naked Raygun) on bass, and Santiago Durango (also Naked Raygun) joined them on guitar. In 1983, together with live drummer Pat Byrne, they recorded the Bulldozer EP. By 1984, the band had done some touring and recorded the Racer X EP and the start of the Il Duce 7”. After that, Jeff returned to Naked Raygun and was replaced by Dave Riley. In 1985, Big Black recorded their first full-length, Atomizer, as well as finishing the Il Duce 7”. Atomizer was released in 1986 along with the release of the Hammer Party compilation CD. In 1987, the Headache EP and Heartbeat 7” were released. That same year, the band recorded and released the 7” of The Model/He’s A Whore as well as their second full-length album, Songs About Fucking. They toured extensively (for Big Black). And they broke up. (Touch And Go Records)

LA's BLAZING EYE return with two new tracks of devilish hardcore punk in the vein of MOBS or ZOUO. The Japanese hardcore influence is prevalent on "Brain" which has an infectious guitar riff- vocal scream dynamic punctuated by a perfect Bristol Beat which will have you screaming like a bloody mess without you even noticing. "Lonely Corpse" on the flip has a stomp dirgy beat perfect to dance like a worm on a devastated city ran by cyborgs. A perfect punk single with two really catchy and memorable songs which show BLAZING EYE at the top of their game. (La Vida Es Un Mus Records) https://lavidaesunmus.bandcamp.com/album/lonely-corpse-7
  • After what has seemed like an eternity and an extremely long journey (including 90% of the initial pressing of the record mysteriously disappearing in transit), Blazing Eye's most recent recording secures their place as one of Los Angeles's best hardcore-punk bands. Propagating punk as true and original as bands the likes of G.I.S.M. and Siege, Blazing Eye sets forth with their strongest release since their 2013 demo. It's a banger for sure and I'm happy that this record is finally a reality. A one time pressing. (Static Shock Records) https://staticshockrecords.bandcamp.com/album/ways-to-die

  • The debut album from Canada's Blight, a 52-minute exercise in galvanizing, and relentless Black Metal. Enter the Temple of Wounds, unleashed from the clandestine Canadians Blight. Rising out of obscurity to share their violent, radical, and illuminating vision, Blight’s nine song new album is a 52-minute exercise in galvanizing, and relentless Black Metal. Temple of Wounds will find a home within the ashen hearts of listeners of luminaries such as Behemoth, Marduk, and Rotting Christ, while also embracing the contemporary, underground zeal of bands such as Bölzer, Cobalt, Light of the Morning Star, and Kriegsmachine. Yet the sound that Blight shapes out of chaos and calamity is uniquely their own: grand choirs and fiery chants pepper the band’s powerful and dynamic approach to Black Metal, where claustrophobic, menacing riffs threaten to suffocate, percussive elements merge violence with technological prowess, and vocals are delivered with a cathartic intensity. Formed in 2008 in Montreal, Blight released several highly sought-after tapes into the underground during their early years. It was only after a brief hiatus, from 2010 to 2011, that frontman Gabriel McCaughry (ex- Unquintessence, Ion Dissonance, Vatican, Anathema Publishing Ltd.) made a pact with current-members Pascal Pelletier, Cedric Deschamps, and Rob Lapalme (ex- Insect & Ontôs On) to solidify what stands as today’s manifestation of Blight. The band were discovered by the sub-arctic worshippers of blackest vinyl at Svart Records and after a short and fruitful period of communication, the parchments were inked and a covenant was made to release Blight’s new album Temple of Wounds on the 5th of June, 2020. Blight’s lyrical themes explore deep facets of inner alchemical transmutation, which lends their music substantial literary weight. Temple of Wounds is allied with a higher intelligence, creating a state-of-the-art sound-war of Black Metal that is at once fresh and familiar, primitive, and epic in scope. Gatefold 2LP vinyl version, on black vinyl limited to 300 copies. The vinyl edition features a 16 minute bonus track on side D. (Svart Records)

This is nothing like the old Blitz, because its a record entirely played by the only original Blitz member, guitarist Nidge on bass and guitar, Gary Bassnet from Attak on vocals. The result is an interesting post-punk sounding album, more relaxed and everything but OI ! sounding, with characteristic Nidge guitar playing plus a second guitar of basic but excellent riffling and soloing. "Well, Mackie wasn't interested, and Carl was living in Australia at the time, but Link offered me th opprtunity to do another Blitz album, and I wanted to do it. The song "Killing Dream" was actually written in 1983 and intended as a Blitz song anyway; it would've been the follow-up to "New Age" if things had been different. But it was an odding time, there was very little going on in the punk scene, and of course, we didn't have a drummer,se we had to use this horrible drum machine, which was the main drawback. But the album did pretty well for Link here, and it came out in America through Cleopatra." Nidge died in 2007, aged 48, shortly after a reunion tour. Originally released in 1989 on Link Records. This is high quality fan club release. (Skunx Records)
  • Released a year after their much hearled debut album 'Voice of a Generation' , 'Second Empire Justice' features half the members from the original line-up and with a new sound. While initially being an Oi!/Skinhead Punk band, on 'Second Empire Justice' they not only changed members and their look but also their sound and released a Post-Punk classic with a heavy dose of Joy Division worship, produced by Chris Nagle. While Nagle had also produced their debut album, he had also engineered the Joy Division and New Order albums under Martin Hannett and had also engineered various other post punk albums of the day from the likes of The Durutti Column, A Certain Ratio and Magazine. Together the band and Nagle created a masterpiece while not appreciated at the time, especially by their original skinhead/Oi! fanbase. The album would go onto influence tons of post-punk/darkwave bands that sprouted from the ashes of punk/hardcore bands decades later and become one of the most sought after albums of the golden age of post-punk.. So sit back and listen to these beautiful moody haunting guitars, dancing basslines and emotionally fragile vocals all the while retaining a punk ferocity. For Fans of : Joy Division, Magazine, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Killing Joke, The Middle Class Limited repress on Puke n Vomit Records, comes with a huge poster of the cover art. (Puke n Vomit Records)
