• A classic. Propelled by a political mission and some wicked bass playing, the gang of four released 'Entertainment' in 1979. Though King sings, "two steps forward, six steps back" (in At Home He's a Tourist), the only reason Gang of Four could have for stepping back is that they are so far ahead of the curve. This record is - without question - one of the most important records from the post punk era. and, while the album's title was almost certainly intended as sarcasm, this is also a really good listen. With 'American Slang', The Gaslight Anthem makes an extraordinary leap forward towards that very goal. The New Jersey-based band's third long player reveals a remarkably powerful rock 'n' roll outfit honed by two years of nearly non-stop touring. Singer/guitarist Fallon's passionate lyrical approach has grown more personal and introspective, his raw throated vocals stronger and more resonant against the band's pulse-pounding dynamic force. Songs like 'Bring It On', 'Orphans' and the rousing title track bristle and burn with the spirit of soul, the energy of punk, and the artistic ambition of any hall of famer you'd care to name. 'American Slang' is the battle cry of a great band finding it's own voice and using it to shout to the rooftops and beyond. The band began getting together for writing sessions at their longtime friend Kyle Roggendorf's basement in Parlin, NJ. (Side One Dummy Records)

Totally mindblowing CONFUSE/KURO/G.I.S.M.- styled madness, originally issued in 1985 on the legendary DOGMA label from Japan. One of Metallica's Kirk Hammet personal faves. In the words of Septic Death's singer Pushead, as published back then in MRR: "Raging speedcore thrusts out pile-driving chaotic leads and maniac raspy vocals, whose style is unique and adds character to the GASTUNK sound. Fast, maniac slices with some interspeed variations make this one of the hottest Japanese LPs since GISM." (Harto De Todo Records/Fan Club)

"If you’ve ever wondered what Catharsis covering The 13th Floor Elevators might sound like, wonder no longer—and that’s only the start!" - Decibel Magazine GELD make their Relapse Records debut with their third full length, Currency // Castration! The Australian band distills a despairingly hellish vision of the world into a thundering crack to the temple through an unsparing fusion of hardcore’s bleakest violence with metal’s ruthless strength-through-conviction. GELD's abrasive take on the genre is distorted through a lense of fuzzed out psych soundscapes; vocals truly sound like unhinged barks, while guitars, bass, and drums crash against one another frenetically, each track burning brighter and brighter. Every moment of Currency // Castration is urgent. Tracks such as “Chained to a Gate” edge and scratch at a relief that is ultimately denied, toying with the nightmarish promise of a breakdown that never comes. Elsewhere, "Cut You Down" pulses with frantically itching riffs that stream forth. "Fog of War" snaps and snarls; while "Secret Prison" evinces the honed physique of Japanese hardcore fed through the broken brain of someone on a years-long Rrröööaaarrr-era Voivod spin-out. Despite the band's innovative approach to the genre, GELD makes no pretensions at being “interesting” for interesting’s sake - As vocalist Al Smith puts it, “One of the most boring things people can do is try to dress up what someone else has already contributed to a genre and make it ‘clever’… We’re more interested in finding our own position” With Currency // Castration, GELD offers no promise of a higher purpose or resolve. Rather, they lean into dissociation, finding truth and meaning in the transcendental joy of simply escaping, surviving, existing. Label: Relapse Records Barcode: 0781676754113

Originally released in demo form, in 2022 the band went into the studio and fully re-recorded the songs. 'What if Blitz hailed from Los Angeles and sang in Spanish’ isn’t a question you hear all that often. Fortunately, we don’t need to ask - the answer is provided by Generacion Suicida’s latest album, which rages and rattles in all the right places, drenched in the memorable brilliance that powered the Killed By Death compilations (ask yer dad - and if he doesn’t know or care, burn his terrible records and make some space to track down the KBD LPs). The band’s slogan is ‘musica del barrio, para el barrio’ - music from the neighbourhood, for the neighbourhood - but it sounds like they could use these hooks to take on the world. That’s a pretty accurate sentiment as well, because this album was written during the Covid-19 lockdown of 2020, while the world bubbled over with carefully managed misinformation, police violence and the sickening overspill of white supremacy’s foul brew. If Regeneracion sounds potent, it’s because there was a lot to be angry about, and the result is arguably their best album yet. Those chorused-out guitar lines carry shades of deathrock, hints of Manchester circa 1980, elements of something you might call goth if it was several degrees less furious. But there’s no doomed romance to this music; it’s an all-out attack. Street punk with the smarts turned up and an ear turned to the lessons learned from post-punk (but crucially, not the ‘post-punk revival’ that is essentially shirtless beardy lads chanting non-sequiturs over landfill indie). Chiefly, it’ll make you wanna get out of your chair, unite your local community and march on down towards your government’s centre of operations with a simple-to-use molotov cocktail kit. Its rage is infectious. It’s inspired by bleak moments in our recent shared history, but it revels in humans’ capacity to find strength in each other. And the tunes? Oh damn, they’re good.' Will Fitzpatrick. (Drunken Sailor Records)
  • Generacion Suicida from Los Angeles are returning with their first new album in four years and fifth album in total. The band is one of the most productive and hard working punk bees we've seen since the beginning of this millennium and we are yet again pleased to be part of their story with "Regeneracion". Recorded and mixed by Tony, bands guitarist and vocal, this album retains everything about their trademark sound so far and that is some proper raw, melodic and catchy punk rock sung in Spanish but this time with a splice of a post-punk swagger thrown in for a good measure, which is a logical progression and evolution from the sound from their last full-lenght records "Reflejos" and "Sombras". "Regeneracion" was fully written during the Covid Lockdown of 2020. 2020 was also the year where it seems people decided that they had had enough. Enough with state oppression, enough with police violence, enough with systemic racism and white supremacy. All these feelings and more bubbled up and bled out into these tracks. While there were moments in life that feel bleak, we know that the people in our community are resilient and strong, and it is for them that we wrote these songs" (Symphony Of Destruction / Doomtown Records)
  • PNV Records brings you another slice of essential Southern California PUNK. A reissue of their 2014 studio full length album. PNV is making this out of print must have album of amazing impassioned, tuneful Spanish-language punk KBD style punk. Loaded with intense catchy, sped-up, undistorted melodic punk steeped with a hardcore urgency. Their hyper-driven’ ‘77 punk, accented by surfy guitar melodies and fierce lead-vocals of vocalist / guitarist Tony (ex-Rayos X and Ekolalia), combined with the female backing vocals of drummer Kiwi are genuinely genius! The third LP by Generation X’s original line-up, recorded in 1979 and unreleased until 1998. An essential piece in the discography of one of the original UK punk bands. 180g vinyl. In early 1979 Generation X went to the English countryside to write and ‘routine’ the band’s third album. We felt we had a new sound, simple songs delivered with more space than most rock’n’roll, so we went into Olympic Studios in Barnes, London and began recording with the house engineer, Doug Bennett, as co-producer. Most of the songs were recorded before our tour of Japan in June ’79. On our return Billy came into the studio with an outline of a song called ‘Dancing With Myself’. We went to work on it and pretty much finished it quickly and we felt it was the song to lead the album, a single I guess… Then I left the band at the end of the year and carried the fuckin’ stack of 1/4” master tapes around the world for many years. A year or so later they changed the band name to Gen X and re-recorded four or five songs for the album “Kiss Me Deadly”. Billy later released the re-recorded version of ‘Dancing With Myself’ for his solo career in America and the rest is history… After years in storage my tapes were nearing the end of their life, so I digitized them in order to save this lost treasure. I named the album “KMD Sweet Revenge”. Some time later the album was released in Germany, Japan, Spain and supposedly the USA, however the release in America was quashed until Capitol Records put out their own version within a 3-CD anthology of the band, using some different mixes of the songs from cassette tapes. The recordings are almost complete minus a few guitar solos and final mixes. Time on Generation X had run out, but this album clearly shows the direction the band were heading and is worth documenting and certainly worth playing. For your pleasure… Sweet Revenge. Bob “Derwood” Andrews Generation X (also known as Gen X) were an English punk rock band from Chelsea (London, United Kingdom) formed on 1976 by Billy Idol, Tony James and John Towe. • Reissued on vinyl for the first time since their original release in 1982. "Last Rights for GENOCIDE and M.I.A.” is the title of one of my most beloved split albums ever released. Since its initial release in 1982, it has never been re released in its entirety and that is a major crime. "Awesome split record from Smoke Seven Records with two great US hardcore/punk combos. Genocide was founded early 1980 in New Jersey by Bobby EBZ (vocals), Wheels (bass), Jet Screamer (guitars) and Damage (drums) and "they were a full-throttle, skull fucking rip-ride of hardcore sex, ghetto drugs and berserk violence, a supersonic nailgun of Aquanet and mascara and spikes and splatterpunk and slutmetal. And this was way before most of that shit was even invented, brother. Led by shadowy charlatan and full-bore suicidal egomaniac Bobby EBZ, for one very brief but blinding moment in the late 80’s, Genocide threatened to rip rockNroll’s heart right out of it’s leather-clad chest and eat it whole. Besides a fashion sense that suggested needle Nazis from outer space, and a disposition just this side of liquored-up junkyard dogs, Genocide really ought to be remembered as one of the first bands to realize that there wasn't a whole lot of difference between the punk rock riot of GBH and the hellfire spit metal of Venom. So they played both at once. M.I.A. were formed 1980 in Las Vegas by Mike (vocals), Nick (guitars), Paul (bass/piano) and Moon (drums) and they broke up and then reunited a few months later in Orange County/California, becoming part of the growing scene there. Shortly after recording a demo, songs were snapped up for two now-legendary 1982 punk compilations: American Youth Report and Not So Quiet On The Western Front. The rest of the demo was released as a split LP Last Rites for Genocide and M.I.A.- The band struck a deal with notorious punk label Alternative Tentacles and released Murder in A Foreign Place in June of 1984. That summer they embarked on a grueling three month tour of the United States & Canada. In 1985 they completed another U.S. tour and headed back into the studio to record the post-punk classic Notes From the Underground. In 1987 the band issued its final studio album on Flipside Rec., After The Fact. In 2001, Alternative Tentacles issued Lost Boys, a compilation of the first two albums plus extras; in 2017 Darla Records reissued Notes From the Underground and After The Fact digitally and on CD for the first time." Great Music!" (Puke N Vomit Records)
