THE CLASSIC 1980 DEAD KENNEDYS’ ALBUM, REMIXED FROM THE ORIGINAL MULTI-TRACK TAPES. • REMIXED BY CHRIS LORD-ALGE, GUIDED BY EAST BAY RAY AND KLAUS FLORIDE. • ALSO FEATURING PREVIOUSLY UNSEEN IMAGERY, EXTENSIVE ESSAY AND CONTRIBUTIONS FROM COUNTLESS ARTISTS INSPIRED BY THE ORIGINAL ALBUM • A REMARKABLE SONIC REVISITATION OF THIS MASTERPIECE! San Francisco’s Dead Kennedys arrived onto the post punk scene of the late 70s and early 80s with something to say and an urgent, razor sharp sound. Via two early singles they delivered the classic ‘Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables’ in 1980. In the intervening decades the album has never failed to inspire and challenge everybody who came across it. This new mix, produced by Chris Lord-Alge gives incredible new sonic clarity to those songs, accompanied by sleevenotes from Amy Linden and East Bay Ray, alongside contributions from Dave Grohl, Duff McKagan and many other artists inspired by the record over the years. “We tried one song, ‘Chemical Warfare’. What Chris came back with was amazing. Everyone heard the difference, so we said, ‘All right, let’s go!’.” – East Bay Ray This new 2022 Mix demonstrates the enduring power of this music, and the relevance of its message today. A revolutionary, must-hear experience for everybody familiar with the original! Soul Jazz Records new ‘Cold Wave’ is a new collection of current electronic artists who have all been shaped by the early European cold wave artists of the late 70s and early 80s. This is the second release of Soul Jazz Records’ new Cold Wave overview. This second edition Cold Wave #2 comes in two vinyl editions – a one-off pressing purple coloured vinyl edition and a black vinyl edition. Both come as heavyweight double vinyl housed in bespoke individual inner sleeves and the limited edition first pressing of this album comes with its own free pull-out fanzine on the groups featured. The CD edition comes with artist booklet/fanzine and slipcase. All editions are printed in special dayglo colour finish. These first artists created new electronic musical landscapes as well as pursuing a stubborn D-I-Y aesthetic, often releasing material on cassette and pioneering use of lo-fi technology, primitive drum machines and home-recording techniques. As part of this continued evolution today many of the artists featured here also self-release their own material, run labels, publish fanzines, or are part of wider musical collectives. Aside from the first electronic, no wave, and post-punk artists cited as influences –Suicide, Patrick Cowley, The Normal, Martin Hannett, Laurie Anderson, Public Image – this new generation of artists also show an exquisitely open source of electronic and disparate influences, everything from Underground Resistance to Purcell, from Scientist to New Beat and more besides. Most of the featured artists are based in Europe and include Krikor from France, Beta Evers and L.F.T. from Germany, Lena Willikens, Job Siffre and De Ambassade from the Netherlands, Toulouse Low Trax from Germany, Dave I.D. and Broken English Club from the UK, and V.C.V.S from Georgia All of the bands featured here make distinctive contemporary music out of the 80s roots of the first cold wave movement. The CD edition comes with artist booklet/fanzine and slipcase. All editions are printed in special dayglo colour finish. Label: Soul Jazz Records Barcode: 5026328104850

  • Red Rockers were an American musical band from New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, active from 1979 to 1985. Originally formed as a hard-charging punk rock band, they changed their style to a smoother, more melodic sound and released two albums in the new wave vein of their record label, 415. They are best known for their 1983 hit single "China". "Condition Red", Red Rockers' first full-length album, was released in 1981 on 415 Records. It was recorded at the famed Automatt studio in San Francisco. The Dead Kennedys' Jello Biafra sings background vocals on Folsom Prison Blues. The song Dead Heroes was included on Rodney Bingenheimer's punk compilation album, The Best Of Rodney On The ROQ. Joe Ohliger III directed a music video for "Guns Of Revolution", as part of an interview for Videowest, an independent television studio that was based in San Francisco. It was shot at Fort Point in San Francisco, at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. Nearly 40 years later, Red Rockers have re-released their 1981 debut album, a punk rock statement of purpose called “Condition Red.” The reissue contains three bonus tracks — including “Voice of America,” the B-side of the 12-inch “China” single — and is available on CD and as a red vinyl LP. Prior to last year’s spectacularly bleak debut LP, Cainsmarsh, Rigorous Institution released three now rather hard-to-find EPs, Penitent, The Coming of the Terror, and Survival, which have now been captured on a single LP. Rigorous Institution skilfully fuse doom-laden crust with anarcho-punk to create an atmosphere of unrelenting, dark foreboding. Growled, half-spoken vocals prove the perfect foil to this post-apocalyptic soundtrack. The band lock into a discordantly powerful groove throughout, one that is enriched by atmospheric flourishes from spectral Gregorian chanting to haunting dungeon synths, and the three EP’s combine to provide a singularly coherent journey into the most dystopian of futures. • Previewed in April with the limited edition single ‘Senses Out of Control’, the new Buzzcocks album is finally unveiled – their first new studio offering since ‘The Way’ in 2014! The legendary Manchester punk band need little introduction. Back in 1977, they gave birth to a generation of independent labels with their debut EP ‘Spiral Scratch’. Thereafter, their melodic punk-pop proved irresistible, leading to hit singles and three landmark albums. They broke up in 1981 but reunited in 1989 and have been going steady ever since. Sadly, singer Pete Shelley passed away in 2018 but founder member and the band’s other singer/songwriter Steve Diggle has kept the flag flying. During the COVID pandemic, Steve and co. (Chris Remington on bass, Danny Farrant on drums) busied themselves with recording ‘Sonics In The Soul’. Recorded at Studio 7in London, the album was co- produced by Steve himself with Laurence Loveless. Label: Cherry Red Barcode: 5013929185739
  • EYE FLYS | eye flys | CD

Eye Flys are a quintessentially Philadelphian band whose aggressive brand of noise rock is leading a wave of bands that harken back to classic era AmRep noise rock. Their rage is palpable and their wit is biting. Hailing from a city with a rich history of labor activism, long associated with the hard-working, the underdog, the everyman. The trio’s rounded nature, one of whom is an active trade union member, imbues their music with a distinctive fearlessness and honesty. Their acerbic wit swiftly whittles matters down to their element, often reveling in the perverse humor of our current state of being. Eye Flys are unsparingly heavy, driven by the colossal rhythm section of bassist Kevin Bernsten and drummer Patrick Forrest. Vocalist/guitarist Jake Smith delivers sharp humor with a healthy dose of venom and bile with each bestial growl while his dirty riffs roar at you. Recorded by Bernsten at his own Developing Nations studio (Full of Hell, Integrity, Jarhead Fertilizer) and J Robbins’ The Magpie Cage, the band’s self-titled album features artwork drawn by artist and drummer John Herndon (Tortoise), known for his singular drawings and his band’s iconic TNT cover. Eye Flys wades deeper into the muck and mire of modern living to take an unflinching look at the horrors of late-stage capitalism and offer a caustic remedy for its ravages. Expanding on their bludgeoning debut Tub of Lard, Eye Flys is lean and aggressive, fast and unforgiving. “Trepanation Summer”’s ferocious riffs bore directly into the skull, mimicking the crude pressure release of the ancient surgical process of the same name, Smith crying to “release the pressure” from within a wall of feedback. “Sleep Forever” throws down a thrashing, infernal groove, demolishing all in its path as Smith’s craggy guitar figures rise like toxic smoke from the devastation. “Draining Pus” revels in septic sludge, while “Bananarchy Zoo” manages to strip things down to an even more lean and incisive realization of the trio’s punishing sonic palette, in an exploration of Smith’s love/hate relationship with his Florida roots. A wall of rippling noise and distortion run as connecting threads through the album, the band’s acerbic humor and raw emotion capturing the perspective and the frustration of the hardworking everyman. The band grapples with the repercussions of coping strategies with healthy skepticism and an eye on the gallows. Eye Flys offers a reassuring reminder that you haven’t gone mad and you’re not alone – that weird ‘n’ heavy music is still here as a respite from the madness of modern living and an outlet for righteous rage. • The Number Ones will take you to power pop heaven with their razor sharp 10 track self titled debut album. They are a Dublin based four-piece featuring members of Cian Nugent and The Cosmos (Matador / No Quarter), Cheap Freaks (Big Neck), Strong Boys (Milk Run), and The Pacifics (Bachelor). Even though they are based in Dublin, they sound like a classic Good Vibrations band from 1979. The Number Ones have energy, passion and tunes so good, it makes you think you've heard them already. Each track is a golden nugget of power pop fun that never outlasts it's welcome as every track is under three minutes. Although this sort of music seems to have been done a million times before, it sounds fresh in the hands of The Number Ones. This is pure summer fun for fans of Rudi, Protex, Exploding Hearts, Buzzcocks and The Tranzmitors. Label: Static Shock Records https://staticshockrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-number-ones

Hans-a-plast were founded in Hannover in 1978 and are still one of the outstanding and formative punk bands of the former BRG. In 1979 their 1st LP was released with the help of the local independent label LAVA RECORDS. The album became a classic and was an inspiration for the still clichéd, cliché-free punk of the early '80s. Against all expectations, their debut was so successful that the band decided in 1980 to found their own label No Fun Records. This thick 180gr re-issue is limited and hand-numbered (1000 copies), comes with original artwork and original booklet. (Colturschock Records)
