One of the most exciting bands to come out of Canada in the last few years, Vancouver’s ACTORS delivers their debut album on Artoffact Records, and you better believe it it sounds as glorious as all the hype predicted! This is the fourth pressing, on milky-clear vinyl. “You should make it your business to check this album out. One of the better post punk releases I have heard this year.” -Elizabeth Klisiewicz, Echoes & Dust “Vancouver’s brilliant post-punk and new-wave quartet ACTORS continue their flair for sonic cinematics in the video for their latest track ‘Face Meets Glass’… The atmosphere quivers with singer Jason Corbett’s crooning reverb augmented by shivering guitars and stark synths.” –Post-Punk “Addictively dancey, uplifting and melancholy sounds… Beautiful, dark music.” –CVLT Nation “Eighties-style post-punk… marrying influences from metal in the post-punk style.” –Decibel Magazine Label: Artoffact Records Barcode: 0628070633463

Though the Beacon Of Faith album is densely-packed, BAPTISTS’ sound is far from claustrophobic. There is melody amongst the dissonance, as the band more deeply explore the noise rock vistas that have always underpinned their sound. The album broadly follows the same trajectory as its predecessors —Bushcraft(2013) and Bloodmines (2014) – combining the style of raw adrenaline-fueled emotion, venomous vocal delivery, gigantic guitar sound, and a visceral rhythmic propulsion; a sonic manifestation of desolate rage, bolstered by a palpable sense of urgency. The lyrics on Beacon Of Faith are drawn from the members’ direct experience of a broken society and general discontentment with everyday life. A multitude of issues are in the firing line, from the Canadian court system, issues surrounding substance abuse, mental health, and how the more fortunate tend to dismiss people who have been dealt a less-fortunate hand. Beacon Of Faith was recorded at Godcity in Salem, Massachusetts with Kurt Ballou in July 2017, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon. Label: Southern Lord Records

  • Vancouver’s BAPTISTS recently completed work on their second full-length album, the follow-up to their 2013 debut Bushcraft. Entitled Bloodmines, the new album (like the debut) was recorded at Godcity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts with with Kurt Ballou Like its predecessor, Bloodmines is a fast, exhilarating album of rage, oozing with genuine raw emotion and punk rock fury. Shards of feedback make way for fast powerful riffs and savage vocals, whilst explosive drumming pumps blood around the band’s beating heart. On album tracks like “Vistas”, “Calling” and the title track, “Bloodmines”, the pace changes, revealing powerful, almost anthemic, jagged noise rock akin to influential San Diego post-hardcore band Drive Like Jehu and similar acts which go beyond the two minute mark. Discordant guitar melodies and abrasive vocal passages are elongated, still volatile but perhaps allowing for further contemplation of the band’s underlying message. BAPTISTS continually find new ways to express their rage and with Bloodmines they have created a memorable and commanding album. Label: Southern Lord Records
  • Packed shows, sold out tours, both their six-track debut 12" and debut full-length "Pressure" get re-press after re-press... does BISHOPS GREEN really need any further introduction? I don't think so either, but we at REBELLION RECORDS sure as hell are damn proud to present you guys the brand new sophomore album by Canada's leading street punk band entitled "A CHANCE TO CHANGE"! With this album the band found a bridge between their raw and powerful debut EP, the passionate and resistful "Pressure" LP and their wild and rowdy live shows capturing it all on "A Chance To Change". So what are you still waiting for?! Label: Pirates Press Records
  • Grey vinyl. If the pandemic made you realize that you missed one thing about your connection with punk, there's a decent chance that Bishops Green had something to do with that. This band hits hard and reaches people on a very deep level. Making new fans daily, they continue to connect with scores of people very deeply, even not being able to tour. Yet the true magic in this band is really seeing them live. As the world returns to normal and gigs materialize, more and more people are gonna realize how important this band is to the social fabric of punk rock. The passion they’ve instilled in fans, and the fervor from within are both equally strong and together are the reason why this band has so much impact to deliver! This album and these songs absolutely set the tone, brilliantly, but there is so much more to come as well. Absolutely no lack of excitement in this maple-leaf-adorned corner of the punk rock world - in fact, quite the opposite! There are seemingly black skies adrift right now, but somehow these songs make you feel like there's a golden future on the horizon! We can all at least sing loud, and hope... • The Vancouver based streetpunk band, BISHOPS GREEN was formed in Spring of 2011. Bishops Green’s music is raw and energetic, with a style firmly embedded in the historic roots of Streetpunk and Oi!. The five long-time friends have been playing in bands together since the ’90s, and this history combined with the group's diverse influences, enables the creation of a catchy sing-along sound that will make sure any audience member feels like they are part of the show! Energetic and charismatic front-man Greg Huff is known to many fans of streetpunk and Oi!, as he has been the heart-beat of numerous bands since the late 80’s, including GLORY STOMPERS, SUBWAY THUGS, THE LANCASTERS and most recently ALTERNATE ACTION. Their melodic style of old-school punk draw creative influences from European groups like BLITZ, THE CLASH, STIFF LITTLE FINGERS, COCK SPARRER, THE PARTISANS and LEATHERFACE; to hardcore acts from the U.S. like THE AUTHORITIES, NAKED RAYGUN, and MINOR THREAT. Following a very impressive and critically acclaimed debut 12” MLP in 2013, this full-length album picks up right where that left off. At the core, the songs on "Pressure" are similar, but with a noticeable growth and maturation to them. The lyrics continue to be bold and ask questions of our society, while extolling the traditions and pride of punk rock culture and accountability to each other through unity. (Pirates Press Records)
  • This is the 6 tack mini LP release from this amazing new Canadian band from Vancouver, Canada. Fronted by Greg Huff and supported by others formerly of bands including ALTERNATE ACTION, THE LANCASTERS, SUBWAY THUGS and GLORY STOMPERS, this is the perfect next step in the evolution of those bands. The sound is still raw yet melodic and catchy, but done with so much more skill and precision than all the aforementioned bands. Fans of catchy singalong street-punk rock 'n' roll and bands like THE BUSINESS and COCK SPARRER can buy this record without hesitation. Colored (yellow) vinyl comes with updated cover artwork and includes a digital download card. Label: Pirates Press Records
  • THIS ITEM IS A PRE-ORDER! YOUR ORDER WILL SHIP ON/OR AROUND JUNE, THANKS! Consumption is key. War crimes in real time an arms length away, mandatory connectivity to hive mind. The common human experience is experiencing the shift. The 1000 Yard Stare is common place, no longer experienced only by soldiers and victims at the front. The front is everywhere. Colonial legacies, genocide, poisoned drug supplies and failed policy, killer cops, global warming, Neo-Liberal fallout, rising Fascism. The Information Age in its current state is one that sees the mask of the emperor starting to slip, a power struggle with the worst players moving into prime positions for takeover and identity politics running the resistance while the working class is dismantled in front of us. The only thing to keep us satiated in an age of endless trauma experience is immediate gratification. The absurdity of all of this that we live, love, buy and die within that framework. It's cynical but it's true. So here we are. Bootlicker's newest album, 1000 Yard Stare is 10 tracks of violent music for a vile world. Musically, this sees the group sticking to their UK82 meets American Hardcore with the echoes of Discharge guiding the hand. Skeptix, Special Duties, Svart Framtid are the seasoning. D-Beat propulsion and the knobs broken off at 11. Static Shock will be handling UK/Europe. Please order from them if you're over there unless you love paying heavy shipping. Compiling all E.P.'s by Bootlicker, "Lick The Boot, Lose Your Teeth" presents 24 tracks originally released over four 7"s dating back to 2017. From the earliest incarnation of the band and the start of their signature production and sound to where they are now. With the overblown martial drumming, completely pinned clean guitar attack, Bootlicker has been a fresh take on D-Beat tradition with a handful of Oi/UK82 and American Hardcore influence on the side. Each 7" is compiled here and represents a different phase of the band. The completely broken speaker aggression of "Who Do You Serve", the slight Rock 'n' Roll influenced "Nuclear Family" and bare bones approach of the "Six Track E.P." all paved the way to a more realized sound in "How To Live Life". Instead of tracking down each out of print, individual E.P. Here they are for the taking. (Static Shock Records)

It's 2021 and Vancouver’s Bootlicker are back with their first full length. Experimenting with various lineups and sounds since 2017, these 14 original tracks flesh out their most realized expression. Following four EP’s and two demos, their self-titled debut stays true to the noise cultivated in the previous offerings. That raw, blown-out production countered with clean guitar sound and Internationally-informed take on a UK82 delivery remains. Everything that made the band what they were on their previous output is polished into a ball of fire that will not be contained. Their mid-tempo, menacing posture of tracks like "Herd The Sheep" and "State Of Fever" give way to the D-beat totality of "Master" or "Two Faced" proving there are still ideas in the tank. There won’t be much left but scorched earth by the time it comes to rest. FFO: Mau Maus, Discharge, SSD. Every copy of this LP comes with a 16 page zine-style lyric insert full of illustrations by band member and visual artist Athena. (Static Shock Records)
  • Born Wrong's third 7" finds these Hamilton, Ontario, Canada hardcore heroes plowing through more raw, aggressive hardcore punk that leans towards the early-'80s end of the HC spectrum with harsh, angry sounds akin to Negative Approach and local heroes Left For Dead. • "Holding Cell," a frantic follow-up to their debut s/t 7", again harnesses the band's untameable live show. "Born Wrong" proves hardcore doesn't have to be blown out and drowning in feedback to be aggressive. A smart, progressive, and agitating follow-up release. Label: Schizophrenic Records

The first vinyl offering from Toronto's BURNING LOVE featuring Chris Colohan (CURSED, LEFT FOR DEAD, RUINATION) on vocals. Originally released as a limited cassette demo in 2009, now available on vinyl. Definitely more punk than CURSED but still rooted stoner / doomy metal hardcore. 4 originals and one cover. 2nd 7" and LP coming out soonish on DERANGED and a full USA and Canadian tour later this year. Review from EXCLAIM "While the name may deceive, there's no love ― just burning ― on this Toronto, ON-based quintet's energetic and completely grimy debut recording. Comprised of six tracks blasted out in ten minutes, the garage-based endeavour is shockingly debaucherous and unkempt. Essentially comprised of former Cursed vocalist Chris Colohan and Hamilton doom-y hardcore outfit Vatican Chainsaw Massacre, this sinister collaboration spawns a dirtier punk'n'roll-based hardcore outfit than one would anticipate. Their drive elicits comparisons to Disfear, Holland's the Spades, back in their Learnin' The Hard Way era, and of course, Colohan's deep-rooted adoration for Winnipeg, MB's dearly departed Kittens, offering an element of downbeat-heavy tracks bathed in primal angst. Keenly restrained enough to be melodic but still abrasive and loud, Burning Love offer up what's best described as the pelvis-driven distillation of their feeder bands. And that is great but pretty frustrating when such an awesomely primitive, rudimentary style can be so inspiring and brusque yet ephemeral." Originally released in 2009 as a demo tape. Writhing, sneering, tight cornered, "Machine Response" the only acceptable follow up to the blistering and landmark "Attempted Suicide." Nearly ten years of beating around the bush, casually playing around the world and drip releasing music along the way, Career Suicide is backed by their best lineup ever, ready to break back through themselves with this new full length. Machine Response veers in and out of pure speed, bursts of melody, and chunky tempo shifts, indenting the long standing influence of early 80s USHC, late 70s punk, and a peppering of 60s swagger, with their own clearly developed style. Dallas Good (Sadies, Andre Williams, John Doe, Half Japanese, Elevator and a million more) presents a magnificently essential 2nd guitar and lead presence; a screaming contribution by great friend and long time supporter of the band, Souichi Hisatake, (Forward, GISM, Insane Youth, Gudon etc) to crack your brain up; artwork in collaboration with Ryan Tong of S.H.I.T. and Toronto's life-giving Faith/Void; and a thundering recording, once again helmed by the decorated and limitless in his pursuit of smooth hearing loss, Jon Drew, provide the most damaging clarity Career Suicide have been able to capture to date. • THIS IS A PRE-ORDER! YOUR ORDER WILL SHIP ON OR AROUND OCTOBER, THANKS! At some point it becomes clear to all of us that trying to navigate life on The Darkest Timeline is pretty heavy going. Politics, economics, human rights… all that grown-up stuff you have to worry about as an adult. Turns out they’ve all been surrendered to ideological grifting and cynical culture wars, which should be enough to make you pretty fkn furious. And you know what? We’re gonna need a soundtrack to this that sounds equally pissed off; something loud, fast and ‘orrible that gives you the impetus to finally drive that bulldozer through the cop shop. In case you hadn’t guessed where this was going, please welcome the grand, timely and thoroughly welcome return of Chain Whip. Straight out of the gate, their second full-length ‘Call Of The Knife’ is absolutely raging. The opening title track might have you squinting at the turntable for a couple of seconds to check that someone hasn’t reanimated the young Circle Jerks, but as soon as frontman Josh Nickel’s voice kicks in, hardcore cognoscenti will be under no illusions that they could possibly be listening to anyone else. His voice is a righteous, gravelly roar that cuts straight through the noise with the very loose subtext ‘I’m having a bad day and it’s imperative that you know about it’. There’s a vitality to it that helps make these Vancouver boys one of the best bands in punk today, and it helps that he’s backed up by a rattling, rolling collective who remind us all that good old-fashioned hardcore (like the ‘80s used to make) remains one of the best ideas anyone’s ever had. Suck on that idea for a moment, poindexter! You know what you’re getting with song titles like ‘Class Decay’ and ‘Hatewave’, but there’s something about the band’s garage-slanted take on the genre that makes ‘em a cut above. Panache? Chutzpah? Just the simple matter of really fkn good songs? Impossible to say, so let’s just settle by agreeing that this album does it all: you can skate to it, you can slam to it, you can paint your bedroom black to it. You can even listen to it while kicking over the statues and kickstarting that violent and bloody revolution we’ve been promised. Look, this is serious stuff that also happens to be oodles of fun. ‘Something’s gotta give,’ they sing, and maybe it’s your resistance. On this sort of delicious form, no one can touch Chain Whip right now. Form a cult and get obsessed immediately. Label: Drunken Sailor Records
  • CHAIN WHIP from Vancouver, Canada released this demo recordings in July 2020 via Bandcamp as well as on a limited tape run. These recordings weren´t originally intended to be released on vinyl as some of the songs have been re-recorded to be released on CHAIN WHIP's upcoming LP "Two Step To Hell". Now, No Spirit is doing a one-time pressing of the "Demo 2020" on 180g vinyl with a limited run of 500 pieces. (No Spirit Records)
  • 6 tracks of Vancouver, BC hardcore. Chain Whip formed in 2018 with the sole intention of playing their favorite blend of hardcore punk. Part KBD, part California beach, part grimy Vancouver. This 12" E.P. finds the band in a faster, more furious mode with five original tracks written and recorded in the height of the 2020 Pandemic. 3 tracks are re-recorded and polished versions from their 2020 Demo (being pressed on LP RIGHT NOW by No Spirit in Germany) while the others are brand new Chain Whip recordings. The final track, Death Was Too Kind was written by Brian Goble and recorded by the Subhumans. From the band: "For me it started in December 2019 when a developer unveiled a 5 million dollar chandelier to hang from the Granville Street Bridge - a testament to wealth and the city's cluelessness. A smug fuck you on display for the world to ogle while people froze in sleeping bags underneath. That insult grew into something more tangible. 2020 was the year that an ever-worsening overdose epidemic was too boring for most news cycles. We watched citizens of North America get murdered in real time by pigs. White supremacists marched in the streets, encouraged by their revered grifters. Major news corporations backed both on primetime while demonizing people for just wanting to stay alive. We sat back, depressed and tuned into the images. We wished that we could just pull the plug on the nightmare around us. We attended some demonstrations, organized some benefits. Stayed home and we drank and drugged. We tried to sleep away the reality. Just like pollution makes the sunsets richer, we danced that good beat; a dependable, monotonous, continuous death. It hasn't quite come for us yet but we're still dancing to that tune - ever closer to the edge. Two Step To Hell. Meaner, faster, and a bit more pissed off." Chain Whip (Drunken Sailor Records)
  • This new Canadian band (with members of BOOTLICKER, NO HEART, LAST CRUSADE and SPLIT ARROWS among others) released a debut demotape last year that immediately catched my attention, i got a bunch of copies for distribution and instantly became one of my favourite demos from 2022. And they also featured 2 tracks on the British Columbia Bovver compilation also released last year. I got hooked up by their fresh hardcorepunk somehow taking influences from both shores of the north Atlantic Ocean, like if GANG GREEN and CIRCLE JERKS would be jamming with THE PARTISANS and THE SKEPTIX on a drunken party. Or something like that. So now it was time for their vinyl debut on their own and here you have 10 tracks of sharp, catchy, fast and piercing Punk Hardcore on a 45rpm 12inch with the title “Perverted Law” which will be released by the end of the summer. D.O.A. | 1978 | 2xLP

    33.00 incl. tax
We’re really excited to announce the release of the D.O.A. album “1978”. It’s a 21 track collection of never released demos, rare tracks and early singles from Canada’s punk pioneers. Joey Shithead went deep into the Sudden Death vault and came up with some super exciting and raw punk rock. The album title and art concept is spike haired nod of the head to that early, dynamic era of D.O.A. and to the seven great former members of D.O.A., who have passed on. Their spirit and talent played a huge role into launching the band into worldwide prominence. The two constants on the album are Joey Shithead and Chuck Biscuits who play on every track. From the start of 1978 you are drawn in by their wild, “I don’t give a shit” approach to punk rock. Now some 40 years later you can hear it all, starting with the never seen light of day demo version of The Enemy. This demo has a different set of lyrics that speaks to fighting Nazis, strange, what is old is new and vital again. There’s a ton of exciting tracks that range from the never heard before: Bored and Suicidal, The Mutant, No God No War, Rip Dis Joint, No Way Out and Rent-A-Riot to classic early singles like Fucked Up Ronnie, Disco Sucks, World War3, The Prisoner and Thirteen. You also get demo versions of America the Beautiful and Liar for Hire with Biscuits drumming, which are wildly different than the classic versions you hear on War on 45. On 1978 you hear the origins of hardcore and you get a full blast of D.O.A’s politics and raucous humour. The album has been released as a double 12” LP and CD. 1979 Demo: A1, B4 1981 Demo: A2, A3, B1, B3 1978 Single: A4, C1, D1, D2, D3, D4 1981 Single: A5 1982 Demo: B2, C2, C3, C4, C5 1979 Single: B5, D5 1979 Van. • The third album from legendary Canadian punk rock pioneers - D.O.A. from 1982. The fancy edition for the 40th birthday will be published by Pasażer Records in late May 2023. "War on 45" was the successor to the albums "Something Better Change" and "Hardcore '81", which are considered to be absolute classics of punk rock today. It was recorded in mid-1982 during several late-night sessions in Los Angeles (at night the price of the studio was half the price). In politics, it was a time of intensification of the Cold War and the arms race, and a lot of local, more or less bloody conflicts - hence the overtones of the title and most of the songs contained on it. You can hear the war there. On the other hand, the title "War on 45" is a parody of the then-popular lame compilations with hits like "Stars on 45". On the occasion of War on 45, a new line-up of the band crystallized. Joey Shithead and Dave Gregg were joined by Wimpy Roy from the Canadian band The Subhumans, who had just ceased to exist, and the drummer was Dimwit - the older brother of Chuck Biscuits, who in turn had just left the band. 8 tracks known from the original release were enriched with 7 bonuses, mainly from the demo recorded a few months earlier, when the drummer was still the aforementioned Biscuits (also known from many other legendary bands - Black Flag, Danzig, Social Distortion etc.). Thus, on one LP you have two best Canadian drummers of all time: the Montgomery brothers - Biscuits and Dimwit. The album includes two covers from both its US and European releases, and a 12-page booklet with unique archival photos, posters, and a story of the making of the album written by the Canadian godfather of punk rock, frontman D.O.A. - Joey Shithead, where many delicious anecdotes are told. This album blows your mind as hard as D.O.A. always could and sums up one of the best periods in the history of these world-famous punk pioneers. The new edition of "War on 45" will not be played at a fast 45 rpm, but at a regular 33 rpm. Tracklist A1 Liar for Hire A2 I'm Right, You're Wrong A3 America the Beautiful A4 Let's Fuck A5 War A6 I Hate You A7 War in the East A8 Class War B1 Rent-A-Riot (1982 demo) B2 Liar for Hire (1982 demo) B3 Race Riot (1982 demo) B4 America the Beautiful (1982 demo) B5 No Way Out (1982 demo) B6 No God, No War (1981 demo) B7 I Hate You (1982 demo) Label: Pasazer Records

Hardcore punk band formed in Victoria, B.C./ Canada in 1980. Dayglo's "Feed Us A Fetus" is their second full-length album, originally released in 1986. Aside from collecting most of the songs from their first 12? record entitled "Out Of The Womb" (1981), it also contains many brand new songs (at the time) that were even better than those on the first album. Many of their classic punk anthems are captured on this vinyl and Unrest Records is the sixth label to release the album over the years, which is a testament to what a classic it really is. When EXORCIST originally issued their one and only album "Nightmare Theatre" via Cobra Records back in 1986, there was confusion all around. Who was this band that virtually came out of nowhere? And who is playing on the record? All members used pseudonyms and the sleeve itself did not feature a band photo. So what was "Nightmare Theatre" supposed to be? An early death metal classic or just and elaborate hoax? The whole truth came to light only decades later when legendary Virgin Steele singer David DeFeis (“Damian Rath”) confirmed that he not only handled the mix of the record but was also responsible for the entire concept and of course the lead vocals. However, in the underground metal scene of the day, "Nightmare Theatre" had already become a cult album shortly after its original release in 1986. At no point in time did David DeFeis consider EXORCIST to be merely a hoax band: “We took it seriously in terms of rehearsing all the songs before we went in and recorded the album, and we were serious about crafting the songs and creating something that we could stand by years later.” According to David DeFeis, the time is finally right to re-release "Nightmare Theatre": “For the past several years I have been receiving an average of three to four offers a month from various labels wanting to re-issue the album. This time the offer came at the right time. There will actually be a few bonus tracks on the High Roller re-issue coming out, plus some alternate mixes of some of the songs, like ‘Execution Of The Witches’ and ‘Burnt Offerings’ for example. I have re-mastered the entire album. I think it’s a very nice package. This project has definitely brought back many memories. One in particular stands out. One day the drummer Geoff was late for rehearsal and I asked him why? His reply was: ‘I was abducted by aliens!” And he was totally serious.” - Matthias Mader. Reissue 2023, black vinyl, ltd 300, 425gsm heavy cardboard cover, insert, poster, bonus track, mastered for vinyl by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony. FAZE | content | 7”

    11.00 incl. tax
Making tons of noise up north (and not just with the trombone) is Montreal's FAZE. Playing a version of punk that is equally married with psych rock, these songs drone, but there is no falter in the step them. Like a dune buggy slowly losing control, the pace is relentless. Culling elements of punk honed by fellow canadians, S.H.I.T. and more astronomical influences like Destruction Unit. Basically you have to be on drugs to fully understand this. 500 7 inches with 100 on greyish purple. (11PM Records)
  • Pummeling curveball from Fucked Up channeling the world of hardcore that birthed them!! Despotic and horrendously sludgy riffs exploding in octaves lower than Hades, crashing against hellish bellowing all while the rhythm section heaves at a pace that only Noothgrush, Crossed Out, Kiss it Goodbye, and Bloodlet would tread upon. Topped off with an absolutely despicable cover of Saint-Saens "The Aquarium" this is the mythologically psychedelic sludge record you never thought Fucked Up would make. 4 tracks of pure audio excretion. (Tankcrimes Records)
  • After awakening from the crypts pioneering Japanese Death/Thrash hordes such as MESSIAH DEATH, CRUCIFIXION and early VOIDD - it's the turn of GAMVETTA, the evil entity that preceeded TRANSGRESSOR in 1989. Savagely rough and awkward grinding death inferno... The first band of Takashi Tanaka (TRANSGRESSOR, NECROPHILE, ANATOMIA etc..) This release includes all their existing recordings: two ultra rare demo/rehearsals + bonus CD with soundboard live recordings. This stuff is so scarcerly circulated that you'll barely find it mentioned on a footnote on Transgressor's page on Metal Archives. GAMVETTA mention as their early influences Sodom, Kreator, Destruction and Bathory even if they quickly moved to more extreme territories, on this collection you will also hear covers of "Scum/FETO" era Napalm Death and "From the past comes the storm" by Sepultura. Includes insert with photos, scans of the original tapes and biographical notes by Takashi Tanaka. Label: F.O.A.D.

GYM TONIC | good job | LP

    19.00 incl. tax
Gym Tonic are an international (1x Canada, 3x France) four-piece (living in Berlin) and talk of the town when it comes to hyped-up synth punk. In some parallel universe, DEVO, Half Japanese and The Residents grew into one and decided to channel their energy into songs about nuclear catastrophes, vitamin injections, car sickness and deadly events. Throw melody lines straight out of the Twillight Zone on top and you have an all-around gem. This is a reissue of the 2019 release on Et Mon Cul C’est Du Tofu? Gym Tonic was an aerobic TV show in France when I was very young (in the ancient times of the early 1980’s). It was also one of my first 7’’ ever. I loved it. It is in a very bad shape now but I still have it. I’m really happy that a new Gym Tonic record is going to enter my record collection. I’m sure it is going to be in a very bad shape soon as I’ll surely play it as often as my old 7’’. I was amazed of the quality of this album when Stéphanie sent it to me. It was obvious that Mon Cul had to put this out as I was playing the songs over and over. Label: Phantom Records

Throw melody lines straight out of the Twillight Zone on top and you have an all-around gem. The six new songs on Sanitary Situations continue where Gym Tonic started their way to the top with the 2019 full length Good Job. Like their long-time touring siblings Lassie, they know, that it is a long way (to the top). But the proof, that they’re on the right track is right here. Drawing inspiration from their everyday lives or the world around, the new record is their usual merging of post-punk with new wave and 80’s synth music, worshipping (not copying) their masterminds DEVO. It includes themes such as addiction, contagious diseases, sexual harassment and the relations between human mind and technology. At times comical, satirical or tragic their songs are always very lively and floorfillers. Gym Tonic: now more than ever. Label: Phantom Records

"A couple years ago my consigliere Mr @jonahjonahfalco played me a track he was working on, and I immediately fell in love with its Pet Shop Boys style electronics tom-toms and their late Blitz general vibe. Down the pub and upon some further discussion I learnt the band was Edmonton’s @arewenothomefront , and as it happened I already knew @noproblempunx We got talking and a few months later ‘Think Of The Lie” 12” came out. I loved it and so did a lot of people it seems. Then the band came and played two fantastic shows @staticshockrecords and I finally met Mr @wegotemboys and the rest of the band which as it happened were the sweetest bunch. By then we have been in touch regularly and I can say, without a doubt, that working with them has been an incredible experience, I want to think we all have learnt a lot from each other and became great friends on the way. Today is the day their second record gets announced and I truly hope you enjoy it as much as I do. It is a very special record, hard to pinpoint but a record which, at least in this house, gets played over and over. I hope you dig it." Paco “Enormous full length debut from Home Front who have managed to fix truth to the beautiful and borderline mythical threadneedle moment in which punk, new wave, pop, indie and rock and roll all descend upon a single source. We may have only dreamed that Tears for Fears might have been going to see GBH at the weekend or that Annie Lennox spent her evening sewing Crass patches to her Wrangler Blue Bell jacket, but Home Front have rang the dinner triangle for us all to feast. High moments of perfectly patinated synth brilliance, tender new wave considerations, punk anthems that could fill the biggest stadium, and fiery hooks that could warm the coldest cynic. The Champagne, the gluebag, the boots, and the eyeliner, GAMES OF POWER clutches to it all. GAMES OF POWER lives inside a crystal clear recording by long time friend and Edmonton wizard Nik Kozub, bringing Home Front’s follow up to “Think of The Lie” to euphoric heights and gritty lows. Produced again by Jonah Falco remotely and between sub zero 10 kilometer runs in Edmonton in late February with co-production by Nik Kozub, Home Front have put their best mirror shined boot forward." (Jonah Falco) (La Vida Es Un Ms Records)
  • Created on the western edges of the infinite plains and prairies of coldest Canada, Edmonton, Alberta's HOME FRONT dance freely and madly along the edges of time and create their own moment amongst the revered and long frozen reserves of THE CURE, SUICIDE, ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN, "Second Empire Justice" era BLITZ, and NEW ORDER. A record bubbling over with analog synth, guitar loops, slammed 808 drums, and anthemic vocal pushes tugging at the great moment in-between the “death” of punk and the “birth” of new wave, pulling fresh sounds into their punk roots and shoving a studded leather jacket around a silk robe. Justice, violence, doubt and uncertainty a la Gary Numan narrating a Warren Miller Extreme Ski Special on the set of TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA: this is HOME FRONT. (La Vida Es Un Ms Records)

Official reissue this Canadian hardcore classic, originally released in 1986. Negative Gain was founded in Toronto, Ontario by Peter Warner who wrote all of the lyrics and provided rehearsal space in his basement. Filling out the lineup was Grant C. Slavin on guitar, Steve Currie on bass, and Andrew Mosely on drums. All members were in their mid-teens at the time. Their influences included Minor Threat, Millions of Dead Cops, the Misfits, and the Dead Kennedys, as well as local TO bands Direct Action and Sudden Impact. Negative Gain got their first break in '83 when we were asked by local Toronto promoter Jill Heath to open for Jodie Fosters Army at the city's legendary punk club The Turning Point. After the show Pete and Grant went skateboarding with JFA. The evening was documented in a subsequent issue of Thrasher as JFA's guitarist Don Pendelton was writing a column for the rag documenting their tour. Other memorable Negative Gain gigs around this time include warming up for bands like the Circle Jerks, Gang Green, the Descendents and 7 Seconds. The young thrash band soon went from listening to their favorite bands' records on a daily basis to hanging out with them backstage and stealing their beer rider! More help from Jill Heath came when the promoter sent Negative Gain's 1985 demo tape, Attack of the Killer Bears, to Pushead for review. Pushead evidently like the tape so much that he offered to release a full-length LP for the band. Negative Gain recorded their album in Oakville, Ontario in about five hours on a Saturday afternoon, as studio time was limited to what the young band could afford to spend on the recording. The session was produced by Brian Taylor of the Toronto band Youth Youth Youth. Sadly, Pete Warner committed suicide not too long after the recording was completed, and never lived to see its release. His last gig with the band was with Toronto's Bunchofuckingoofs. Negative Gain continued on as a three-piece for about two more years, before splitting in the late 1980s. First time on the digital format - with their full early demo as bonus! The ENTIRE catalog no less, starting with their most beloved album, WRONG. Using the original all analog master from the original mother, as engineered by George Horn, John Wright, and Jello Biafra. Nomeansno formed in a vacuum in Victoria, British Columbia in 1979. Quickly relocating to the clothes dryer to hone their classic sound, they also become masters of Tumbling and toiled diligently throughout the 80's until relocating to Vancouver and managed to produce 11 albums spanning a career of 35 years, 7 months, 11 days, 16 hours, 27 mins but unfortunately at that defining moment the stopwatch was fumbled and rolled under the couch and the seconds could not be accurately recorded. Included in this stunning output was a collaborative album with Jello Biafra, and numerous EPs and singles. Originally formed as a two-piece by brothers Rob and John Wright, NMN was later joined by monster guitarist, Andy Kerr and became a four piece which was quickly amended as there were only three members at that point. However, after Andy's departure in '91 The brothers Wright were joined by mythical guitarist Tom Holliston and Brobdingnagian drummer Ken Kempster, officially raising the roster to four and paperwork once again needed amending. Those fellows kept Mr. Biafra on his toes! Mixing hardcore punk, dark lyrics, and sophisticated arrangements bordering on prog, (near Passau) Nomeansno was massively influential and widely regarded as the first band to be referred to as “math rock”. An attribution most solidly enshrined with their '91 release of "0 + 2 = 1". Actual legal precedence was set and to this day NMN receives a small royalty from the Pointlessly Arcane Musical Genre Descriptors Society of America (PAMGDSA) whenever the term is used. Originally released on Alternative Tentacles in 1989, WRONG stands on its own, and is still considered to be a much-loved classic, not unlike Pinocchio. Allmusic called the album a masterpiece and the definitive jazz core (currently securing rights to that one) album. In 2021, the album was voted by the public to win the Canadian Polaris Heritage Prize to honor classic Canadian albums released before the creation of the award. In 2015, drummer John Wright described the album as their “most popular album by a country mile” harkening back to those early days of punk rock when time was measured by the lifespan of a raccoon, and to the St. Louis Music Press of WRONG’s success to the rise of alternative music and the success of Nirvana; "That’s where all the buzz about us came from. We were touring throughout the States in the mid-80s, and we'd get a little bit of an audience here and there, but after a couple of years in Europe, we started doing some big shows there, and all of a sudden, people in the States were coming out to our shows. And we went from getting paid $200 to getting paid $1000. It was just like that. You had to have the buzz, and then it all just kind of blew up."
