• News from the front: ALGARA's first LP is here. From Barcelona, the land where the CNT-FAI shined in 1936, now the anarchist bombs explode again through the twelve tracks of "Absortos en el Tedio Eterno". Ever wondered what would have happened if the RONDOS and CRASS had joined forces at the Conway Hall or if AVIADOR DRO and ESPLENDOR GEOMETRICO never had a couple of judo kicks and the four started a new band? Well, then you are close to imagining how ALGARA sounds. At times sparse militant punk a la CRISIS/ FALLOUT filtered thru the KGB/ SINIESTRO TOTAL machine. At times minimal synthetic idealist anthems, but always revolutionary, forward thinking, and making the sound their own. The anonymous collective self recorded "Absortos en el Tedio Eterno" in a Barcelona squat while engaging in their agitprop campaigns. With songs about poor working conditions, the constant evictions, youth unemployment, and a city consumed by tourism and other forms of gentrification, the LP is a cold call to arms for today’s political punk. The LP sleeve shows members of the collective at one of their rendezvous point looking cool. Comes with an A2 double sided poster, 14 page Manual for Sound Guerrilla booklet and a sticker. • ARMS RACE unleash their debut album after a well-received 6-track demo in 2013 and a 6-track 7" EP in 2014 on Quality Control HQ and Painkiller. Arms Race arrived on the scene fully formed with their powerful and gnarly UK-meets-USA hardcore: their signature sound of a vocalist chewing on glass is backed by one of the most solid rhythm sections in HC these days, and the guitar work adds a metallic element making the whole sound gigantic while keeping the ugliness and aggression to the max. NWOBHC is a statement of no-frills hardcore that is not scared to reach out to different corners of the punk and metal world. • ARMS RACE follow up to their “New Wave Of British Hardcore” LP with four new tracks, which sees the band solidify their place as one of the strongest pillars of UK hardcore. Touring Europe and Japan since the release of the LP, these 4 new tracks are yet more proof of why the band leaves a trail of fans whenever they play. “The Beast” displays a ferocious hardcore attack with both boots firmly stuck on the hardcore and punk territories while looking forward to new soundscapes on which they evolve, such as on track 'Distort Britannia' that showcases a slowed down atmospheric stomper. Part classic USA Hardcore, part Bristol and Stoke On Trent punk, these new tracks are a perfect continuation of what the band has created during these last 5 years. The Beast comes housed in a pocket sleeve with artwork by bass player and LVEUM shitworker Nicky Rat and includes a lyric insert and download code. • Over three years ago the band Barcelona entered the studio to record what was originally planned as a double LP. As the genius that they are, they managed to record around 25 minutes of their trademark “extremo Nihilismo” sound. A high concept sonic vomit somewhere between CRO MAGNON, ISKRA, NO TREND and PETRA DE FENETRA. Comfortably sitting on the crossing between hi-brow conceptual art and low-brow delinquency. In the intersection where the EXPLOITED meet the Incus catalogue as if Tony Oxley and Ian Brighton were jamming with Wattie and Big John. The recording was eventually (and conceptually it seems) split into two records. The first one being “Un Último Ultrasonido Nació Y Murió En Barcelona” (MUS138, 2017) and the second one “Residuos Del Ultrasonido” released now a mere three years later. Loads could be written about the painful process between both records but let’s just focus on the recording and be clear: Residuos pisses all over its predecessor. The songs are full of spite and power with the level of vileness reaching new levels on this eight track 7” EP. Listen to Higiene or Salvajes and tell me they are not some of the best Barcelona songs ever. As always, artwork taken care by Oriol Roca, a person I look forward to never hearing from again. (La Vida Es Un us Records) https://lavidaesunmus.bandcamp.com/album/residuos-del-ultrasonido
  • Un Último Ultrasonido Nació Y Murió En Barcelona is Barcelona’s sophomore 12” of pure sonic nihilism. A band of highs and lows. High concept as performance and low brow as execution. In my eyes Barcelona is simply a genius project, capable of create their own universe and vomit all over it. Their formula of distortion to the max, total free-ness and improvisation with regurgitated bass lines and repetitive primitive beats topped with the sharpest and nastiest lyrics as observation of our own futility and misery. In their own universe you can find Hermann Nitsch, or the entire catalogue of ESP Disks hanging out with Manolo Kabezabolo and Eskorbuto. Probably without them being aware of it. All of the above is what you’ll find in the 13 songs on this disturbing record wrapped around again in artwork but the last artist on earth Oriol Roca. (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)

Barcelona's Belgrado return with their second album 'Siglo XXI' and first for La Vida Es Un Mus. The 11 track album melds dark and dreamy goth and post punk with a stunning and clear production. The bass leads and drives each track into the batcave whilst the vocals yearn and ache on top. This record has a clear 80's English influence (Killing Joke, Vex, A Touch of Hysteria, Blood and Roses etc) but it also very modern day Barcelona with the reverb as important as an instrument and totally DIY. 2011's excellent self titled LP has been bettered in sound, production and song. The LP comes in a thick black and white sleeve with artwork from drummer Jonathan also including a 30x30 insert, an extra lyric sheet and a 40x55 poster. (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)

Chain Cult from Athens, Greece return with a new two track 7" after releasing their much loved demo on vinyl just a few months ago. On Isolated, Chain Cult have upped the intensity and dark atmospherics. The sound is bigger, focused and anthemic. The guitar work is haunting and flanged and the rhythm section locked in, keeping the energy high. It sits somewhere between Vex's Sanctuary 12", a more uptempo Killing Joke and Warsaw while remaining a band of their time. Isolated comes housed in a pocket sleeve designed by the bands signature designer A.D. Visions which also created the lyric insert. • “Once the sadness of their 2020 canceled American tour was gone, Chain Cult went back to the practice space to write new songs, it was a perfect way to keep finding meaning in a world at a standstill. They are back stronger than ever with two new raging post-punk anthems, they’re bringing exactly what we need in these troubled times. These two songs give us elements for reflection on our lives, a good occasion to think about what we miss and what we want for the future. « We’re not Alone » and « Always a mess » show the band at its best. The very powerful rhythm section allows the guitarist to play the most beautiful and dark melodies and the singer to chant the catchy choruses that Chain Cult is known for. During uncertain times, it is good to be surrounded by people you trust to continue moving forward ; in this spirit Chain Cult has kept the same recipe as for their previous records. No one can say what the future holds and we can’t act like this is normal but always shall we remember that we’re not alone in this world” (Nico Destructure) (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)
  • Formed in 2009 Constant Mongrel begun as a two piece (Tom Ridgewell and Hugh Young) creating immediate and at times improvised songs in an old dishevelled laundry in inner city Melbourne. Inspired by the more flamboyant side of protopunk such as Electric Eels and Chrome, over the next few years the band added members Amy Hill (bass) and Andrew Murray (guitar) building upon their intense sound and developing a unique humour. Consisting of members from Terry, Woollen Kits, Nun and Taco Leg, Constant Mongrel has several previous releases on RIP Society Records and Siltbreeze Records.
After three years since their last release Constant Mongrel have developed a diverse collection of songs gradually over time. Recorded in the summer of 2017 in a studio, produced by Tom Hardisty and Mastered by Mikey Young, ‘Living In Excellence’ brings a more formed sound and aesthetic with striking riffs and catchy rolling bass over an often unhinged, vibrant rhythm section. Added for this on particular tracks is a fried, effected saxophone with warm synths and analogue sounds added to enhance the LP’s thoughtful textures.
The new record has a sharper British Post Punk expression reminiscent of the usual suspects in Wire, Blitz, The Mob, Siekiera and The Fall, while also exploring elements found outside of the genre from Les Rallizes Dénudés to Youth Crew Hardcore to Country music and beyond, there's greater depth and sensibility found amongst the angst.
James Vinciguerra (of Total Control fame) designed the cover which is a perfect depiction of this modern day punk record with its sharpness, colour and feeling of slight discomfort.
The bands lyrics and themes vary in subject matter. Songs of certain romance, the monotonousness of self-loathing, the joy of a riot, atrocity of western religion, an abundance of a fresh modern fascism, white-middle-class-self-entitled guilt and the beauty in misinterpretation. But behind every idea the tongue remains continually in cheek as the bands humor seeps through and prevails in its sound.
The truth is that none of us are truly Living In Excellence and this false mantra is prominent throughout a record that is over flowing with character, bleak satire and grunt.
‘Living In Excellence’ will be available on LP and digitally through La Vida Es Un Mus in Europe and North America and Anti Fade in Australia from Friday 21 September.

  • INVASIÓN from Barcelona started in 2004, and after several line up changes they finally put out their first album on LVEUM in 2007. In 2008 they put out the 'La Caza' 12" and toured the USA. After the USA tour there were some more line up changes, so they decided to change the name of the band. DESTINO FINAL is the new name but apart from that, little has changed. 'Atrapados' is an 9 track album of feedback and reverb drenched punk. It takes small slices of classic 80's European hardcore, English Anarcho punk and DISCHARGE and makes something that is dense, desperate and twisted. (La Vida Es Un Mus)

I don’t want to blow, I want to grow! The first Dis-clone? We don’t know about that, but these are some early rumblings of Dis-mania, direct from the Merseyside in 1986. For every man, woman or child there is no escape from the dark war horse of This Attack! Disattack. 6 raw bursts of sonic bloodbath that will leave your ears bleeding in a ditch. The fear of doom dawning when the whole world will be bathed in Blood! The 4 song demo is complemented by 2 additional rehearsal songs and a 28 page booklet of archival material, hand-outs and photos. For those who worship Discharge, Anti Cimex and Sacrilege! Line-up includes a young Bill Steer pre-Carcass. (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)
  • 20 years ago DISCLOSE released their response to the greatest hardcore 12” ever released: DISCHARGE’s Why. At the time the band was at the peak of their DISCHARGE era and had perfectly crafted a trademark sound, which shows through on the recording. The chainsaw-sounding double-toned guitar, Kawakami’s unmistakable vocals, and a rhythm section firmly based on the Stoke-On-Trent’s beat melded together to create a repetitive mantra-like noise chant. Recorded at Grove Cargo and mastered at Studio D-Takt by Jan Jutila, the production is a perfect example of noise not music pressed into vinyl, with both high and low frequencies cutting through the mix without losing any power. Lyrically Nightmare Or Reality focuses on the tragic sights of bullshit fucking war while aurally the record is a full-blown attack on all senses. D-Beat Raw Punk at its best. 20 years on and many times imitated but never duplicated. Originally released by MCR Company, this 20 year anniversary official reissue comes in a printed inner sleeve and heavy board outer sleeve. (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)

180 Gram record housed in a paste on board sleeve. Indiscriminate cruelty to common people: the slogan could be about war or it could be about your eardrums while listening to 'Tragedy.' Disclose's first LP is a landmark of cacophonous, guitar-forward noisy hardcore. Heavily influenced by classic 80s Swedish raw punk, these fifteen songs perfect the unrelenting formula as only Kawakami could. Originally released in Japan on the cult label Overthrow in 1994, this reissue restores the fierce original mix two decades later. It differs from the mix on later represses hailing from Uppsala, where Swedish bombshelter-dwellers keep the flame alive. This authorized reissue reproduces the original artwork, with insert. The band made up of ex members of Pisschrist, Kromosom and Unknown to Gods worship at the alter of Perdition era Disorder, Chaos UK and Confuse. • Formed in Barcelona in the summer of 2017, Fatamorgana sprang to life from the hearts and minds of Patrycja Anna Proniewska and Louis Harding. What began as a bedroom project of sorts (monophonic synthesisers, 4-track cassette recordings) the project soon blossomed into a functional live unit. Following a self-released cassette single at the start of the year, the pair spent the latter part of 2018 touring continental Europe and the west coast of North America.

Recorded at Holyrook Estudio in Barcelona, Terra Alta is the group's first full-length effort. The verse-chorus songwriting, the raw set-up of 2-synths-and-a-beat, and the primal rhythms nod to the duo's background in punk. But Terra Alta has a pensive and mesmeric quality, provided in part by an outstanding production job (Studio AS One, Warsaw), but also by lyrics concerning themselves with themes of love, time travel, reflections on the future, the power of imagination and the mysteries of the natural world. If pressed for musical references the band could be pin-pointed somewhere between early DEPECHE MODE, YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS, THE HUMAN LEAGUE and a rounder around the edges BORGHESIA.
Dreamlike synthesisers and echoed voices circle around danceable rhythms, inviting you to simultaneously contemplate and move your body. Allow yourself to be teleported from the majesty of Nature, to the glow of the discotheque.

Eleven years after their already classic and genre defining “Under the Ashes” Osaka’s FRAMTID are back with a new LP. “Defeat of Civilization” is everything you would expect from FRAMTID. 10 tracks of crushing Japanese hardcore heavily influenced both by the sound and ideas of early Swedish hardcore but pushing to sound to the edge. Mega distorted guitars, deep vocals and the most solid yet dynamic rhythm section you’ll ever witness are FRAMTID’s trademark as well as are their lyrics full of hope and their stark black and white graphics.. Released in time for their appearances at Chaos in Texas Festival “Defeat of Civilization” has been released simultaneously in Japan (Crust War) USA (Black Water) and LVEUM (Europe). Order accordingly.

  • European press of FRAMTID's last release. Osaka crust legends FRAMTID return with the first recording since their line up change which brought a new drummer and bass player. As expected the "Horrific Visions" continues what the band started nearly twenty years ago: Their own take on classic early Swedish hardcore with and added over the top delivery, massive distortion and relentless drumming, all mixed with a really strong Anti War message. It is hard not to be infected by their sound as the aggression and song craft remain unmatched with B side opener "By Any Reason" showing a side of FRAMTID we hadn't seen yet mixing samples of war documentaries over a hypnotic more metallic slow paced song. Overall a fantastic release proving why they are probably the best band with black and white overexposed artwork and over-saturated guitar tone there is. The record is pretty much identical than the us press other than coming in a pocket sleeve and have a different B side label. (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)

An absolutely over the top recording comprising twelve tracks of punishing hardcore with a huge wall-of-noize production adding to their faultless song writing. As noisy as the album is, all the songs are hits and hard to forget. 'The Total Arse', 'Tomorrow' and 'Consuming Shit and Mind Pollution' are what the new generation of noize-not-music punk lack, memorable anthems. Housed in a tip on sleeve for as long as they last and without alterations to the art or sound from the original, this reissue tries to bring an undoubtedly classic of our generation back to life.

Highly anticipated second LP from NY's HANK WOOD AND THE HAMMERHEADS! "The album builds on the garage punk groundwork of 2012’s debut LP, Go Home!, but features a better recording courtesy of Boston’s Side Two. The cleaner organ tone juxtaposed with the gruff vocals and plodding drums create something hypnotic, dynamic, and immediately enjoyable. While much of the grime of earlier releases is lost, the Hank Wood songs stand out more than ever before and show them at their best and most mature (no chicken were harmed in the making of this album cover!). Stay Home! stands out from its predecessor with its improved hooks, catchy-as-hell riffs, and percussive embellishments. Much like Crazy Spirit’s Demo 2014, the music works within the band’s existing framework but shows a strong progression from earlier material and an example of why both bands remain at the forefront of NYC’s incredibly productive punk scene." - http://www.bostonhassle.com (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)
It’s not surprising that Hekátē chose their name after the ancient Greek goddess Hekate, the deity of the underworld, witchcraft, nighttime and crossroads. Hekátē are four women coming from different paths, all of which converged in the Spring of 2018, and met at the great crossroad of Athens’ eternal night. Their music is multi-referential, an explosive mix of their magic potions. The heavy, melodic bass establishes the base of their post-punk sound. The drums derail it where necessary. The synths, more electric than electronic, can be heard distinctly, at times leaning towards a smarter New Wave but also giving a wink at garage rock. The vocals sound like an enraged, rhythmic recital tightroping along the melody. As a result, their eight tracks move along a scale, starting with melancholic, urban hymns and ending in anxious, frenzied chases, all tied together with a ceremonial atmosphere. The record title, Days of Wrath, is a translation of the Medieval hymn “Dies Irae,” which warns of God’s wrath, which will come down on the people during the Second Coming. Through their lyrics, Hekátē turn their wrath towards God, the people who created Him and the constricting world those people sustain. It starts out like a cry for help and climaxes into a war cry. Hekátē’s war cry is the voice of a generation of emancipated women in motion. With few similar examples across the Greek scene, it comes as the result of their own liberation and of the many who came before them, paving the way. As political beings, Hekátē cannot but reflect their own gender identity in their music. An identity that—whether on stage or on record, or out there in the high-speed jungle of Greek society—expresses emotions from discomfort to aggression, as it is by definition obstructed by outdated and invisible privileges. For those who don’t wish to understand, they explain it, cut and dry, with their track-manifesto “Soapbox,” reminding them: “You think you see me? Well, you see shit!” However, do not be disheartened. Days of Wrath is not some wooden, incomprehensible declaration of ideas. It is a deeply poetic, atmospheric record, doused in cloudy melodies that know when to hit the gas to carry the listener to the other side. (La Vida Es Un Mus Records/2020)
  • Sealed Records release the complete remastered ICONOCLAST Discography including the immense self released 1983 Demo, The Flipside 7" from 1985 plus Two Compilation tracks. It's a small but perfectly formed discography and one that 36 years after it was first recorded still has power, intensity and rage. ICONOCLAST were part of the early 80's American peace punk scene that included CRUCIFIX, BODY COUNT, AGAINST, ANOTHER DESTRUCTIVE SYSTEM, DIATRIBE, ARMISTICE and A STATE OF MIND. Idealistic bands highly influenced by CRASS which shined amongst the heavily nihilistic California Punk scene of the era. ICONOCLAST sound was in tune with DISCHARGE, early ANTISECT or WRETCHED while lyrically the songs were political and to the point. They played benefits for animal rights, anti nuclear, anti apartheid, anti police brutality, and Big Mountain. The demo was followed by their only vinyl release on Flipside which has two ragers and the more mellow In These Times which has a touch of THE MOB and OMEGA TRIBE about it. The band had tracks on various compilations including the seminal International P.E.A.C.E. Benefit LP on R Radical in 1984 which had the cream of the crop of international hardcore punk of the heyday. Domination Or Destruction comes housed in a heavy reverse board sleeve and includes a 24 page 11”x11” booklet containing interviews, photos and flyers from the era documented, 1983-1985, which will help understanding the band ideas and the local scene of the era. Sealed Records are proud to finally reissue ICONOCLAST's catalogue, a criminally overlooked band for some but in the label’s eyes this LP is a must have for all punk households! "Originally released as a tour 12" and sold immediately during their recent usa tour Invasión's new album is finally out. 6 sick tracks of claustrophobic hardcore that updates the traditional uk anarcho sound, and the experimental japanese hardcore of the early 80s. this 12" is dirty and un-easy, the sense of urgency is such that by the time the storm that opens the a side is over you want to break things up. the raw production makes the crazy vocals full of echo and delay the main focus but they are backed up by a steamroller of overdrive driven noise guitar and manic drumming with tons of feedback joining the tracks together, managing to get you on edge for the entire duration of the record wondering what's gonna happen when it is over. this release is more proof that even a limited style like hardcore can provide head scratching bands in this day and age." Oakland's KHIIS, on this, their first full-length record, unleash a torrent of killer riffs, building songs of purpose and power, absent of the chaos and noise that engulfs many modern hardcore records. While such noise obviously has its place in the canon of punk and its raw machinations, KHIIS know they don't need the obscurant balm of feedback, they stand clear and robust, simply put: they've just got the fuckin riffs. Similarly the vocals are declamatory and forthright, not wild ghosts of delay and reverb, determined attacks, stark in their fury. KHIIS charge mightily through nine striking tracks of thick, full-blooded hardcore punk, taking no prisoners (Joe Briggs)
