• Τhe oddly named "(I'm) Full Of Spiders, Man!" is a 3 member horror synth-punk band from Athens, Greece, which emerged from the Greek underground scene seemingly out of nowhere on September 2019 as a desperate attempt of honest expression against a reality that has simply gone a bit too far. They first appeared as a support act at the "Le Prince Harry" gig at "Ίδρυμα 2.14" (Ιdryma 2.14) on October 2019 and at the same month they recorded and released their debut album on the independent punk label "Είσοδος Κινδύνου" (Eisodos Kindynou) on a limited run of tape cassettes. In the old world, before the COVID 19 situation arose, the band managed to perform 5 times in total at different cities around Greece. This notorious band is one of an awkward geometry of both dark atmosphere and rad energy, maintaining a humorous approach on their criticism against all things the modern world stands for. Lore - synths, vox, drumachines Αntonakis - synths, vox, breakdance Tumult - synths, vox, wigs 3rd edition of their debut LP on purple vinyl and 364 copies (incl. download code). Two years have passed since the successful release of the first "Sows von egal" compilation. "Sowas von egal" is a collaboration between the Hamburg record label Bureau B and the Hamburg party series Damaged Goods where they present rare, obscure synth & wave discs from the early 1980s which absolutely deserve to heard. It was clear from the outset that “Sowas von egal 2” would need to scale similar heights of excellence as its predecessor, featuring carefully selected, sought-after, danceable tunes. In contrast to the first volume, most of the acts here were only active in the early 1980s and have not released any records since then. The tape artists were particularly invested in the DIY ethic – as is often apparent in their sound aesthetics and the unbridled energy which has lost none of its intensity today. Their art was seldom – if ever – tempered by commercial considerations or sales strategies. A year in the making: “Sowas von egal 2” is a worthy successor to part 1! Hello there! “Sowas von egal”, the album before you, is the result of a collaboration between the bespoke Hamburg record label Bureau B and the Hamburg party series Damaged Goods. The divergent trajectories of a record company on the one hand and DJs on the other are happily aligned through a love and passion for seeking out, collecting, releasing and playing rare, remarkable music which simply needs to be heard. For the three of us as DJs, we created Damaged Goods first and foremost as a danceable party where we could play music beyond the regular and repetitious repertoire of (dark) electro clichés. Our focus would be on seldom heard post-punk and synth wave from, or in the style of, the 1980s. We’d slip in these unknown or long forgotten treasures between more familiar hits from the genre to inspire and excite our guests. Eighties culture is very much a reference point today in music, art and fashion, so why not play the originals – especially as there is still so much to be discovered from that period? Many of the old records we’d play in the club had only been pressed in small quantities, often sold exclusively at the respective bands’ gigs. More than 30 years later, it is almost impossible to get hold of these tracks – unless you pay over the odds on certain websites or track them down as inferior MP3s on this or that blog. To be fair, at least they have gone to the trouble of getting hold of the songs and transferring them to a digital format. This is why it was so important to us that our collaboration with Bureau B would be dedicated to selecting tracks for “Sowas von egal” which are not readily available (on vinyl) and have not been rereleased (or the reissues themselves are genuine rarities). It gives us great pleasure to announce that we succeeded, 100%! The groundwork for this project was interesting in itself: sorting through and listening to songs, making lists, setting priorities. Then getting in touch with labels and trying to find the musicians of yesteryear. This wasn’t always so easy: some had disappeared from view, others had actually died. When we did find who we were looking for, the reaction was generally positive, although some were surprised that anybody was interested in their music today. At this point we would ike to express our deepest gratitude to mastering maestro Tom Morgenstern, who worked wonders with a jumble of disparate source material to achieve such sonic consistency. Fans of our parties will recognize more than a few of the tracks on “Sowas von egal” and we are really proud to have put together this collection. The project took around nine months to get everything in place and we hope you will have as much fun listening to it as we had researched, compiling and releasing it. Soul Jazz Records new ‘Cold Wave’ is a new collection of current electronic artists who have all been shaped by the early European cold wave artists of the late 70s and early 80s. This is the second release of Soul Jazz Records’ new Cold Wave overview. This second edition Cold Wave #2 comes in two vinyl editions – a one-off pressing purple coloured vinyl edition and a black vinyl edition. Both come as heavyweight double vinyl housed in bespoke individual inner sleeves and the limited edition first pressing of this album comes with its own free pull-out fanzine on the groups featured. The CD edition comes with artist booklet/fanzine and slipcase. All editions are printed in special dayglo colour finish. These first artists created new electronic musical landscapes as well as pursuing a stubborn D-I-Y aesthetic, often releasing material on cassette and pioneering use of lo-fi technology, primitive drum machines and home-recording techniques. As part of this continued evolution today many of the artists featured here also self-release their own material, run labels, publish fanzines, or are part of wider musical collectives. Aside from the first electronic, no wave, and post-punk artists cited as influences –Suicide, Patrick Cowley, The Normal, Martin Hannett, Laurie Anderson, Public Image – this new generation of artists also show an exquisitely open source of electronic and disparate influences, everything from Underground Resistance to Purcell, from Scientist to New Beat and more besides. Most of the featured artists are based in Europe and include Krikor from France, Beta Evers and L.F.T. from Germany, Lena Willikens, Job Siffre and De Ambassade from the Netherlands, Toulouse Low Trax from Germany, Dave I.D. and Broken English Club from the UK, and V.C.V.S from Georgia All of the bands featured here make distinctive contemporary music out of the 80s roots of the first cold wave movement. The CD edition comes with artist booklet/fanzine and slipcase. All editions are printed in special dayglo colour finish. Label: Soul Jazz Records Barcode: 5026328104850

“Στο σκοτάδι”/‘’in the darkness’’ is the third full-length album Selofan release on Fabrika. Once you put this record on, you feel like being grabbed by the hand and led through the darkest subterranean corridors to a sweaty nightclub. Romanticism and danger are in the air, a nihilistic vision of beauty. claustrophobia, separation, pre paid feelings, leaving and letting go is what this record is about, making you want to cry and dance at the same time, mixing the most sentimental strings with punk bass lines, synthesized trumpets, the finest analog wave with circus sounds. the voice half-speaking, half-singing, expressing either the strongest emotion or the complete absence of it, tells a story or remembers a dream, powerful and tender. Again the sentiments are expressed in different languages, which is meanwhile a characteristic of the band, the b-side surprisingly this time completely in Greek. The whole instrumentation is live and all analog, recorded at their home studio in Athens and mastered by Chris “snake” Manolitsis, the man behind most of the memorable bands to emerge from the Greek new wave scene of the 80s. This record is a manifest of love! Label: Fabrika Barcode: 852669411099

As Selofan’s fifth studio album, Vitrioli, from 2018, is a testament to the tragedy of life. The Greek duo, Joanna Pavlidou and Dimitris Pavlidis, who recorded the album in the Fabrika Records home studio, continue on in their poetic, but heartbreaking, music set to a dance beat. Between languages (Greek, English, German, and Spanish), Selofan feels on the brink of mania with Vitroli. However, the madness is controlled, the songs are restrained hysterics that culminate into the alchemic perfection of the band’s specific moody sound. White In Black Edition of 350. Selofan is the Greek term for Cellophane, a thin, transparent sheet, protecting items, keeping them fresh and allowing them to breathe while in storage. The music of the duo from Athens (Greece) is transparent, fresh and takes your breath away. It is strictly analogue, though alongside the synthesizers, drum-machines and loops a bass line, a dreamy piano and saxophone melody may surprise you. The female voice narrates about love and the loss of it, about death and the fear of it, about sexuality and the repression of it, about addictions, psychological weaknesses or strengths, all our own personal ghosts, which distinguish humans from other species. The power and tenderness of the male vocals penetrate your senses directly. Label: Fabrika Barcode: 702038251767

Through varied experimental synth-scapes conjured with keen ears for sound design, production, and theatrical aesthetics, Selofan rest not on the laurels of just creating highly danceable coldwave infused music, but with together with Joanna Pavlidou’s haunting vocals, and Dimitris Pavlidis’ throbbing bass guitar, and modular synth compositions, the pair conjure whole other worlds and narratives throughout each album and music video they create. Thus far the Selofan have released 5 studio albums, issued through their own legendary label they curate themselves: Fabrika Records. Through their Fabrika family, Selofan have championed such acts as Lebanon Hanover, and She Past Away, aiding these bands in becoming two of the most popular Darkwave acts worldwide. Once you enter Selofans’ ”Cine Romance” you will never want to leave again. You will be transferred in a new-wave world of playful irony, electronic melodies and experimentation. Once we go through the gates of this Cinema we shall forget our fears in the sound of a cinematic track inspired by David Lynchs’ movie ”Dune”. After this catharsis we are ready to enter the dark, mutant world of -according to our opinion- the currenlty most visionary band emerging from the Greek underground. Selofans’ world is multi sided, you may feel directly connected to it and the next moment you may lose the ground under your feet. Polymorphism comes from Greece and has always been a characteristic for Selofans’ music. The album is singular in concept but varies genres: dark-wave treasures, synth-punk spells, melodic saxophone fairy-tales and early industrial beats coexist in harmony, while a hallucinating voice sings or whispers poems of great emotional tension in different languages, exposing uncomfortable truths. This album transfers a powerfully original fusion of energies and is meant to be only for the wild at heart! A limited to 1000 copies future-classic! includes download link, inner sleeve with the lyrics and sticker. Label: Fabrika Barcode: 8016670156796

  • Powerplant return in 2022 with their long awaited second full length, but things are not quite what you may have been expecting. Started in late 2020 during ‘that’ time and finished this January, Stump Soup finds Powerplant taking the instrumental interludes from previous releases to their natural conclusion and have delivered an 20 track, hour long dungeon synth album. Yes, really. Theo Zhykharyev: “A year ago I landed on all these really cool left field DS releases from the mid 2010s, kind of like egg-punk of the crypt world, and it made me smile because I could go there. New timeline just got weirder, but life's a movie and I wouldn't want to have it any other way.” The album is available as a 60 minute cassette, limited to 300 copies. (Static Shock Records)
  • The London one-man synth and garagepunk project is launching its first proper full-length release after some of its already very delicious singles and EPs. I have to say that Theo Zhykharyev just topped the recent short players with this album. The record is actually just one thing - one complete highlight. Something between Screamers meets early Numan/Tubeway Army and a health dose of DC hardcore. Awesome stuff! Energetic and slightly insane - it's hard not to love it. I think this will end up being one of the albums you whip out when someone claims no one makes great music anymore. Κυκλοφορεί σε LP και Digital album από την Ιnner Ear. * * * Just three months after the release of the EP "Βεντάλιες Και Σιδερογροθιές (Fans And Iron Fists)", relenteless MAZOHA, strikes again with his new album "Τώρα Χορός (Now Dance)", catching the thread musically, lyrically and emotionally from where he left it on his previous album, "PRTTHLTS”. As stated by the title and confirmed by the homonymous track and the tracks "Τσιχλόφουσκα (Chewing gum)" and "Ψυχολογικά Τραύματα Social Club (Psychological Traumas Social Club)", there is an even greater dancing mood, which stems from the thirst for relaxation. Those who have experienced the live gigs of MAZOHA know this feeling well. At the same time, in the songs "Ήρωες Πολλοί Αγάλματα Λίγα (Many Heroes Few Statues)", "Σαν Σκιάχτρο (Like A Scarecrow)" and "New York" the beats, the synths and the vocal lines are typical examples of the dark pop that characterizes his album "Bastardo". The tracklist is completed with two special tracks: "Ονειρεύομαι Μωρό Μου (Ι Dream Baby)" with the noise-shoegaze intro and the rap stormy vocals, a confessional and denouncing loop that could last forever, and finally "Το Πουτανάκι Σου (Your Little Whore)”, the love song of the album with a chewing gum refrain, flirting dangerously with trash, written to be heard late at night in all bars. An album of contrasts that dives from despair to redemption and from joy to sorrow, marrying darkness with light. The most MAZOHA album so far. Label: Inner Ear

* * * After the album "PRTTHLTS", MAZOHA returns with "Vedalies Ke Siderogrothies (Fans And Iron Fists)". A mini acoustic album of 5 songs, naked from beats and synths, like playing the guitar and singing in your room. The songs were recorded over a period of four days in October 2021 by Jimmy Polioudis at his home with the use of acoustic guitar, baglamadaki and melodika. The lyrics talk about crocodiles in the streets, near-fainting, iron fists, rooms-planets. Although the songs flirt with the genre of the ballad, they are not love songs (with the exception of the cover of "Anixi (Spring)"), but a set of songs that express that no matter how emotionally vulnerable some people are, they do not give up, they resist and try to be the exception that will become the example in the brutal current state we are living.
