“Ecstasy and Danger is the second official release and first full-length from Belgium’s Ostrogoth. Originally released in 1984, it represented an opportunity to build on the strength of the Full Moon’s Eyes EP and, after plopping the needle down on opening track “Queen of Desire,” it sounded like it was going to do just that. This song just drips with the epic and slightly occult vibes of Sledgehammer or very early Iron Maiden. Other songs that bleed true metal include “A Bitch Again,” the instrumental “Lords of Thunder” and the title track. Then there are tracks that seem to embrace more of a commercial sound, not in a hair band way, more an early ’80s Krokus/Scorpions vein, but definitely with a hard rock element to the songwriting. “Stormbringer,” “Scream Out,” and “The New Generation” exemplify this direction. There are some hooks and catchy choruses throughout Ecstasy and Danger, but perhaps not as many as the EP seemed to foretell. While not as tight and hard-hitting as Full Moon’s Eyes, Ecstasy and Danger was a solid release for Ostrogoth and built their reputation as one of the leaders in the burgeoning Belgian and overall European metal scenes.”
