DEAD END | complaints | LP

    20.00 incl. tax
Dead Ends was an influential underground punk band from the Philippines that first formed in 1984. Along with Wuds and Philippine Violators, Dead Ends are usually regarded as one of the first breakthrough punk bands in Filipino rock music. The group ended up going on a mysterious hiatus in 1990, but returned in 1994, and in 1995 released “Mamatay Sa Ingay”, which was their first original release in several years. The album had strong sales, and Dead Ends proved to be as popular and relevant as ever, although the group ended up officially disbanding in 1996 following the sudden death of bassist Jay Dimalanta, who was the half brother of Dead Ends vocalist Al Dimalanta. After a brief hiatus, Al returned to the Filipino punk underground when he formed Throw, which was active from 2000 until 2017 Originally released in 1985, Complaints is the first full-length underground Pinoy punk album by a band under the Twisted Red Cross. This album was released during an unpopular dictatorship and immediately prior to the people’s revolution that would forever change the social dichotomy of the Philippines. Political and social Issues from the 80s are still relevant today, expressed with raw, hardcore and sarcastic lyricism! It’s a great look at the happenings of the Pinoy punk scene 40 years ago! Official rerelease of their super rare 1st tape on Twisted Red Cross. Carefully restored and remastered with love by Daniel Husayn / North London Bomb Factory. Label: Merciless Records

Ultra fucking FAST sicilian thrash-core mayhem!! New F.O.A.D. reissue faithfully reproducing the original pressing on Crime Records. One of the earliest bands in Italy to introduce the blast-beat formula on Thrash/Death songs. This is one of the most representative extreme metal records out of Italy’s 80s scene. Insanely THRASHING and VIOLENT!! If you also count in the early stuff by their brothers-in-mayhem NECRODEATH (as a matter of fact, half of the songs on this album had NECRODEATH’s former screamer Ingo on vocals), SCHIZO were among the first pioneers of hyper-speed driven thrash emerging from Italy, that in more simple words equals “the first blast beats to ever land on the Italian Metal territories”. Housed in a reverse board jacket with the addition of an insert with lyrics and rare photos of the time. Solid black vinyl limited to 250 copies Label: F.O.A.D. Records

  • This new 7" by Paris Dark punkers BLEAKNESS features two unreleased songs from the last album studio session, they were put on hold to get the spotlight they deserve, as the band is already working on new material it was time to release them. A side song "Words" is the last song the band wrote before entering the studio, it is another death-rock anthem while B side "Greed" is based on riffs written during the bands' first ever European tour years ago, it is reminiscent of the early 80's melancholic SoCal California hardcore punk scene. With both songs gathered together, this 7" is a good summary of the musical spectre of the band between hardcore and punk post, more energetic than ever and for sure with a heavy done of guitar melancholy. } Pressed on red vinyl. Co-released with à La Carte Records (USA) Distro-y Records (Ireland) Inhumano (Switzerland) Kick Rock Records(France) Kink Records (Germany) Scream Records (Poland) Tormenta de Idea Records (Spain) Label: Scarecrow Records

    RANCID | let’s go | LP

Rancid"s classic second LP, originally released in 1994, is disarmingly good from start to finish. With roots set firmly in their Berkeley punk rock origins, on Let"s Go Rancid set out with heart, soul and vehemence to reach new heights in their music. Some of the highlights are "Salvation," "Radio," and "Nihilism," but all the of the songs bristle with the unmatched signature of Tim Armstrong"s intensely evocative writing style. Recorded in their hometown of Berkeley CA, at legendary Fantasy Studios and mixed in Los Angeles at Westbeach Recorders, Let"s Go foreshadows the ground breaking success that would be found on their next record, And Out Come the Wolves. "No Control" is one of the albums that helped bridge Bad Religion's more reckless, earlier direction with their more focused (but just as pissed-off) '90s-era with the strength of such cuts as "Big Bang," "Automatic Man," the title track and "I Want To Conquer The World." "No Control" is one of the band's best all-time albums and an archetypal blueprint for the genre. Bad Religion has been setting the standard for years; this album is yet another stone in the band's long road to identity and style. Label: Epitaph Records Barcode: 8714092640618

  • This new Canadian band (with members of BOOTLICKER, NO HEART, LAST CRUSADE and SPLIT ARROWS among others) released a debut demotape last year that immediately catched my attention, i got a bunch of copies for distribution and instantly became one of my favourite demos from 2022. And they also featured 2 tracks on the British Columbia Bovver compilation also released last year. I got hooked up by their fresh hardcorepunk somehow taking influences from both shores of the north Atlantic Ocean, like if GANG GREEN and CIRCLE JERKS would be jamming with THE PARTISANS and THE SKEPTIX on a drunken party. Or something like that. So now it was time for their vinyl debut on their own and here you have 10 tracks of sharp, catchy, fast and piercing Punk Hardcore on a 45rpm 12inch with the title “Perverted Law” which will be released by the end of the summer. Original music from the film,"Instrument", culled from demos and various sources, by Fugazi from 1988-1998. It is a mainly instrumental soundtrack for the documentary (Instrument) about the band produced by the band and filmmaker Jem Cohen. The soundtrack mostly consists of previously unreleased songs and studio outtakes culled from Fugazi's history to that point, as well as seven demo versions of songs from their proper albums (six from 1998's End Hits and one from 1993's In on the Kill Taker). Of particular note is the song "I'm So Tired", a piano ballad played and sung by Ian MacKaye, which is a significant departure from Fugazi's usual post-hardcore sound. "Shaken All Over" features the bassline of Johnny Kidd & the Pirates' "Shakin' All Over", as well as MacKaye briefly singing the chorus line with heavy dub echo. The riff from "Lusty Scripps" was played in Fugazi's final live show, in the break between the main set and the encore. Label: Dischord Records Barcode: 718751962019

  • As one of the greatest Japanese hardcore bands ever, Kuro has long been a favorite for those who want their hardcore laden with an extreme edge; for the time their sound was wildly chaotic, raw, distorted, and violently thrashed, ranking right beside fellow heavyweights GISM and CONFUSE when it comes to timeless Japanese hardcore of the early to mid-'80s. SACRIFICE should require no introduction. Formed in 1983, the band became one of Canada’s earliest thrash exports and, over the next ten years, largely defined the sound and style of Canadian thrash metal. In 1986, after two rehearsals and the pivotal The Exorcism demo, SACRIFICE released their now-classic debut album, Torment in Fire. Ripping and unrelenting and more than a bit evil, Torment in Fire truly sounded like its title. While all the songs on The Exorcism were re-recorded for their debut album, Torment in Fire delivered them in their ultimate form, with SACRIFICE sounding fiercer and more focused than ever. And the legend continued… High Roller Records, black vinyl, ltd 700, lyric sheet, 4 page insert, poster, A5 photo card, 425gsm heavy card board cover, mastered for vinyl by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony in March 2021. Cutting by SST Germany on Neumann machines for optimal quality on all levels... The ultimate reissue of this eternal Thrash Metal classic! After nearly 20 years, such a glorious run of releases and a live show that’s gone from flailing kids flailing against kids to legendary exorcism for both band and audience — watch the pit during “The Saddest Day” and tell me it’s not the closest thing to a near-religious experience atheists will ever have — CONVERGE could be forgiven for releasing an endeavour that was simply good, okay, just maintaining their status quo. After all, it’s much easier to win the title than retain it, and even the greats slip from time to time. Axe To Fall (CONVERGE's third release for indie institution Epitaph Records), however, is no such relapse. True to themselves and their art, as always, no matter the cost, Axe To Fall continues to push relentlessly forward, much like a shark that needs to always keep swimming to survive. Where No Heroes was a refinement and broadening of hostilities declared on previous assaults such as Jane Doe, Axe To Fall returns to the more AmRep-inspired noisecore abrasions of You Fail Me while also updating and making vital the thrash influences that defined earlier CONVERGE efforts (Caring and Killing, Petitioning the Empty Sky) and retaining the hardcore hostilities and frantic pace so vital to their foundation. Of course, the experimental anguish and pleading for salvation are no mere sharpening of past knives but yet another leap forward in an existence full of them. From frenetic, frantic opening track “Dark Horse,” which is a downhill avalanche of ferocity culminating in one of the heaviest riffs CONVERGE have ever laid listeners to waste with, to “Worms Will Feed,” an ominous exploration that ebbs and flows, building upon crashing then retreating waves of music and lyrical condemnations (“the worms will find a way, the rats will find a way”), to the barely restrained chaos of “Losing Battle” and Axe To Fall’s sanguine, beautiful, climatic seven-minute-plus dénouement, “Wretched Word,” Axe To Fall isn’t just another mere “release” or record from spoiled kids discovering metal and crying about how difficult life is in the suburbs. Axe To Fall is a nearly two-decade culmination of hard roads travelled and unwanted, but necessary, lessons learned, of prayers for salvation lost to the wind and too-fleeting nights where everything was still, if only for a moment, consumed by morning’s inevitable advance, of crushing defeats and the realization that the war only ends when we do, and it’s not one we can win, merely endure. Once again recorded by CONVERGE's resident engineering genius Kurt Ballou, whose God City Recording Studios has become the Mecca for aggressive music’s elite to congregate at for assistance realizing their sonic sermons (from Trap Them and Genghis Tron to Torche and Buried Inside), Axe To Fall is as sonically dense a tapestry and punishing a release as Converge have ever conceived, once again perfectly echoing musically Bannon’s heart-ripped-out-of-chest-but-still-beating lyrics. It’s the summation of experiences learned working on records such as No Heroes and You Fail Me, also recorded by Ballou at God City, and it surpasses them. But even while CONVERGE and Axe To Fall stand alone — as Bannon is so fond of saying live: “we’re born into this world alone, and we die alone, so make your mark while you’re here” — they’ve never forgotten the core values of the hardcore scene they were raised in, and raised others on: community. Axe To Fall is CONVERGE's most collaborative effort to date, even while paradoxically sounding as focused as ever. Axe To Fall features the likes of John Pettibone (Undertow, Himsa), Ulf Cederlund (Entombed, Disfear), Cave In’s Steve Brodsky, Adam McGrath and J.R. Connors, F. Sean Martin (Hatebreed), George Hirsch (Blacklisted) and Genghis Tron’s Mookie Singerman, Hamilton Jordan and Michael Sochynsky, amongst others, contributing to its dense sonic soundscapes. Even Steve Von Till (of legendary star destroyers Neurosis) graces the record on “Cruel Bloom,” an ignoring of musical confines that sounds akin to something Tom Waits and Mr. Bungle might concoct if trapped in a watering hole on the fringes of Purgatory right before the end-time hit. Something Bannon said to me years ago during our very first interview has stuck with me ever since: that hardcore needs to be about something more than bad poetry and Slayer riffs. And that search for and desire to be something more have defined CONVERGE since their inception, and continue to propel them and their art ever-forward. Through sheer hard work, perseverance and an unwavering commitment to artistic integrity Converge have risen from humble beginnings to become that mercurial and so very rare “something more.” Axe To Fall continues their reign, long may it last. • The third album from legendary Canadian punk rock pioneers - D.O.A. from 1982. The fancy edition for the 40th birthday will be published by Pasażer Records in late May 2023. "War on 45" was the successor to the albums "Something Better Change" and "Hardcore '81", which are considered to be absolute classics of punk rock today. It was recorded in mid-1982 during several late-night sessions in Los Angeles (at night the price of the studio was half the price). In politics, it was a time of intensification of the Cold War and the arms race, and a lot of local, more or less bloody conflicts - hence the overtones of the title and most of the songs contained on it. You can hear the war there. On the other hand, the title "War on 45" is a parody of the then-popular lame compilations with hits like "Stars on 45". On the occasion of War on 45, a new line-up of the band crystallized. Joey Shithead and Dave Gregg were joined by Wimpy Roy from the Canadian band The Subhumans, who had just ceased to exist, and the drummer was Dimwit - the older brother of Chuck Biscuits, who in turn had just left the band. 8 tracks known from the original release were enriched with 7 bonuses, mainly from the demo recorded a few months earlier, when the drummer was still the aforementioned Biscuits (also known from many other legendary bands - Black Flag, Danzig, Social Distortion etc.). Thus, on one LP you have two best Canadian drummers of all time: the Montgomery brothers - Biscuits and Dimwit. The album includes two covers from both its US and European releases, and a 12-page booklet with unique archival photos, posters, and a story of the making of the album written by the Canadian godfather of punk rock, frontman D.O.A. - Joey Shithead, where many delicious anecdotes are told. This album blows your mind as hard as D.O.A. always could and sums up one of the best periods in the history of these world-famous punk pioneers. The new edition of "War on 45" will not be played at a fast 45 rpm, but at a regular 33 rpm. Tracklist A1 Liar for Hire A2 I'm Right, You're Wrong A3 America the Beautiful A4 Let's Fuck A5 War A6 I Hate You A7 War in the East A8 Class War B1 Rent-A-Riot (1982 demo) B2 Liar for Hire (1982 demo) B3 Race Riot (1982 demo) B4 America the Beautiful (1982 demo) B5 No Way Out (1982 demo) B6 No God, No War (1981 demo) B7 I Hate You (1982 demo) Label: Pasazer Records
  • The turn of the century was heady times. The thought of how an underground power/pop/punk band should exist in the aftermath of the Green Day Nineties was a proposal that hung heavy with apprehension, confusion and bewilderment. While a difficult construct to navigate, this is the unlikely Portland, Oregon setting we see the Exploding Hearts erupt from. Drawing spiritual inspiration from the likes of the Buzzcocks, Undertones, and Nick Lowe, the attitude and implied delinquency of the Exploding Hearts was more in line with that of au courant Naughties Warped Tour line-ups. The band also considered themselves peers with the scuzzier side of “The” rock bands at the top of the 2000s. The intersection between Detroit garage punk, Goner Records and the shelves at Hot Topic is a seldom tread land, but it was fertile with potential. With ten undeniable songs clocking in at just 28 minutes, the Hearts' indisputably essential Guitar Romantic operated as the punk rock equivalent of Ernest Hemingway’s writing: Nothing extraneous, simple, straightforward, to the point, deserving of no additional flourish or accoutrement, with every creative decision pushing forward the work as a whole. Arguably, perfect. The album immediately felt strong. It felt classic. It felt…destined for bigger things. Yet barely three months after its domestic release, with momentum building and Lookout! Records sniffing around, band members Jeremy Gage, Adam Cox and Matt Fitzgerald, all barely in their twenties, would die in a tragic van accident that ended the band. The intervening two decades has found Guitar Romantic bubble up from a below-the-radar cult classic to a genuinely acknowledged and appreciated touchstone of its time. As years have carried on with the album rightfully landing on countless “Best of” lists, this record is somehow still ascending and growing. With that in mind, the passing of Guitar Romantic co-writer “King” Louie Bankston in 2022 served as inspiration for Six to place the album with an appropriate and caring long-term home after years of planning to self-release. Six approached only one label - Third Man Records - who immediately agreed to take up the mantle of the record that was near and dear to their collective hearts. Guitar Romantic (Expanded & Remastered) doesn’t just present the album with a sharp, spiffed up remastering. It also found original album producer Pat Kearns spinning the old reel to reel and archived DAT tapes for the first time in twenty years. This enabled Six to drop in nuggets like little snippets of pre-and-post-take studio dialogue amongst band members, adding audible life to a record that for too long has been overly-associated with death. If that weren’t enough, the remastering uncovered the previously forgotten organ-heavy “King Louie Mix” of the fan favorite “I’m A Pretender.” Even more intriguing was the discovery of a completely unheard take of “So Bored", previously not even known to have been recorded at the Guitar Romantic sessions. Of most excitement though is a remastered version of “Busy Signals” (a song originally released on a small-quantity 7-inch in January 2003). All of these songs are included here, housed in a beautiful gatefold packaging and still all fitting on a single LP. Label: Third Man Records Barcode: 0810074422697
