The 1988 debut album from the clown princes of straight-edge, CRUCIAL YOUTH, whose satirization of clean cut punk scenesters earned the band a loyal following. Before GOOD CLEAN FUN even tried to tackle the straight-edge hardcore humor scene with open arms, this late '80s New Jersey band had the whole hardcore scene holding their bellies from laughing so hard. Originally released in 1989, this is a lovingly restored reissue. If you're a fan of YOUTH OF TODAY or early Revelation stuff in general, this is right in your league. Uniform Choice originally formed in 1982 in Newport Beach, CA and in September 1982, recorded these four tracks known as the "Orange Peel Sessions". This era of the band did not feature the members that played on the "Screaming For Change" record and is indeed a very different sounding band with a style much more akin to the Orange County beach punk at the time or late-'70s UK bands. This 7" still serves as an important documentation of one of OC's best bands at their infancy as well as a snapshot of that time and scene in general. (Dr. Strange Records)

When I had the chance to listen to this demo I didn't hesitate a minute and got straight in touch with the band asking for the possibility to reissue it on vinyl because it blew my minds away. The physical version of Ego-ism is billed as a demo on their band’s Bandcamp page, but with ten very lengthy tracks, Ego-ism is longer and more ambitious than most current punk and hardcore bands’ full-lengths. The sound is gruff and heavy (particularly the vocals, which are growling and intense), but the music is adventurous, working in elements of shoegaze and darkwave around the edges. Take the track “Dekadent,” which borrows moves from Bauhaus and Skeletal Family, but then Ego snaps right back into d-beat with “Ljudi.” Hailing from Berlin and featuring Nesha from Doomsday Graphics on vocals this will be remembered as one of the few good things that happened during the pandemic. For the first time ever on the 12? vinyl format is the 1984 demo by Orange County, California straight-edge hardcore stalwarts Uniform Choice. It features Patrick Dubar on vocals, Victor Maynez on guitar, David Mellow on bass, and Patrick Dyson on drums, the same line-up that would later go on to record the lauded Screaming For Change LP. Originally released in very limited quantities on cassette and later reissued as a double-7?/CD on Nemesis Records in the early-?90s, this is the first official re-pressing of this release in decades.
