Original price was: €12.00.Current price is: €5.00. incl. tax
"Invite Your Soul" draws influences from hardcore, punk, metal and rock taking Zero Mentality's signature sound to new levels of crushing heaviness and melodic intensity. "Invite Your Soul" is the latest offering from German hardcore sensation Zero Mentality. Expanding the sound created on their debut album "In Fear Of Forever" was never going to be an easy task, but Zero Mentality rose to the challenge and delivered 11 songs of titanic proportions that scream emotions such as hate, love, angst and hope and that musically draws influences from hardcore, punk, metal and rock taking their already signature sound to new levels of crushing heaviness and melodic intensity drawing the listener into their world and their domain. Consistent with the ever evolving sound that Zero Mentality created since their inception in 2002, "Invite Your Soul" is not only a rollercoaster ride of emotion but crosses genre borders in a way that is coherrent, new and exciting throughout this epic journey that climaxes with an instrumental that balances emotion with musical grace and power. Where others fall behind, Zero Mentality remain true to their vision of creating a blitzkrieg of styles and diversity, straining on the leash to thrust forward and keep their onslaught and quest venturing on, yet always retaining their almost pop like structured songs memorable and easy to remember. "Invite Your Soul" will be as fresh in 10 years as it is today and will contribute to the legacy of the hardcore, punk, metal and rock genres like no album before it. What do members of Trial, Test of Time, Expired Youth and Decline have in common? A love for classic hardcore and a band called Bystander. Their path was paved by Youth Of Today, Chain of Strength, Judge and others, yet Bystander breathes new life into the genre´s boundaries both musically and lyrically. What you hear on this five song EP is powerful oldschool hardcore coupled with heartfelt lyrics which take a look both inward and outward at the same time. WILD AS ALL FUCKING GET OUT! Debut album by Kohti Tuhoa, a wild Finnish hardcore group with members of Kylmä Sota among others. Naming Framtid and Rattus as principal influences, the quartet knocked many a punk fan out with their debut 7" EP last year. This full length album is taking things closer to the limit and pushing them over the edge. Vocalist Helenas' vocals are some of the most unhinged, maniacal evocations heard since early era Negazione! Label: Southern Lord
  • Manchester's straight edge troupee xCurraheex has been going through hectic times in the last two years, with a lot of membership changes, causing delays with recordings and cancelled shows. But these times belong to the past – vocalist Smit and drummer Mike are now joined by Mike Wright and Adam on guitar and bass respectively and are back on track! Hence, the title of the record! This 7” contains five songs, partly recorded more than over a year ago, that were only recently finished by the new line-up. Compared to their previous release, the 'Why We Fight' 7”, the guitar work is a bit more experimental, with quite some tempo changes and breaks, but despite that, it's still 100% energetic and fast straight edge hardcore. Artwork is again done by Javi and the record comes on green vinyl! (Commitment Records)

PARANOID VISIONS | cryptic cross words | CD

Original price was: €7.00.Current price is: €5.00. incl. tax
Cryptic Cross Words is the 5th album that Paranoid Visions have released since their 2006 reboot. Add to this the multitude of singles and a myriad of historical re-releases and compilations and it becomes clear that Paranoid Visions are a band who are not content to sit back and relax or attempt to trade on past glories. Indeed founder members Deko and P.A are of the opinion that there are no past glories with the recent releases being more reflective of what the band were about in the first place. Cryptic Cross Words, a culmination of a year’s recording and writing is an attempt to craft a specific album with a specific modus operandi. “With every release we have done, there has always been a compromise, and certain styles or genres we have wanted to explore have been almost achieved, but not executed the way we imagined them … until now”. Switching rhythm section and losing a backing vocalist in early 2014 gave the band the opportunity to form the perfect line-up and create what the band believe is best album they have ever made. It’s certainly a more focussed and strategic release that relies on soundscapes and moods that co-exist with the various musical genres the band continues to dip into. But it explores these cohesively with production that has been described by one early reviewer as being “crisp but avoids the sheen of the nu”. Certainly this album owes as much to UK Decay as it does to UK Subs, or is “more magazine than fanzine”. Lyrically the album is tackling different subjects ranging from the Catholic church’s abuse of children, invasion in the Ukraine, sexual harmony, working culture and the voice of the downtrodden public on the verge of snapping. In the case of Anagram Sam the lyrics consist entirely of anagrams (Anagram Sam, he’s one of those NAMELESS SALESMEN, his LIFE is a FILE of anagrams, he’s the SENATOR for TREASON etc etc….you get the picture!!) whilst the album’s closer, “baNAMA Republic” is a delicate slow building acoustic song spanning seven minutes and sung by Aoife Destruction detailing the fall of the Irish economy and the corruption that facilitated it. A rising star on the SxE Hardcore scene was born on the ashes of some legendary bands like Think Twice, By All Means, Product, Ageing, Onfall, Substance,… This brand new band at their debut vinyl release offers 6 songs of superb songwriting reminding us of the golden age of oldschool Hardcore. These kids grew up on bands like Chain Of Strength and Youth Of Today and followed the genre through bands like First Step, Carry On, Betrayed,… Two Words put on the table a very modern sound that builds on those influences. A truly incredible debut! (Goodwill Records)
  • Southern Lord seem to have left the doomy drones of their past behind, at least for 2011. Heartless continues the label’s trek into contemporary hardcore metal, and ‘Hell Is Other People’ is an expert splinter of the genre, with the Pennsylvania act tramping through thirteen songs in a mere twenty-one minutes. Not a second is wasted as they bring to mind the best of ‘Scum’-era Napalm and more contemporary metal-core activists Raspberry Bulbs or Bone Awl. Those with a need for pounding, guttural axe wielding should check immediately. (Southern Lord Records)

    BL’AST! | blood! | CD

Original price was: €8.00.Current price is: €5.00. incl. tax
Earlier this year BL’AST! guitarist, Mike Neider contacted Southern Lord with news that he had found some mysterious old BL’AST! master tapes in a abandoned storage locker. Greg Anderson, fanatical about BL’AST!, wasted no time in sending the tapes to a studio to be baked. Needless to say, after 25 years gathering dust, the quality had deteriorated. Even when the tapes had been baked, nobody could have anticipated what would follow. With the tapes baked and audio digitised, Southern Lord contacted long time BL’AST! fiend, Dave Grohl about mixing this recording, his response was an enthusiastic “FUCK YEAH!, LETS DO THIS”! Whilst inside Grohl’s famous 606 Studios (and with the Neve console as featured in the recent Grohl produced documentary ’Sound City’) a remarkable discovery was made – a completely unheard, unreleased BL’AST! recording session from the mid–80s. The lineup of the band at the time of the recording included second guitarist William Duvall (from Neon Christ & interestingly now the vocalist for Alice In Chains) who had moved from his hometown of Atlanta out to Santa Cruz on a tip from mutual friends, Corrosion of Conformity to join the band. Unfortunately his tenure with BL’AST! was short–lived and no recordings from that lineup were ever released. From the thunderous bass intro of “Only Time Will Tell” to the apocalyptic warnings of “Its In My Blood” the album completely rips and rages from start to finish. All parties involved were completely amazed at how vibrant, unique and new the material sounded. All things considered, it is miraculous that this record survived it’s journey and that everyone who was involved in bringing this recording to life, could be. Everything fell into place, when it could have easily crumbled along the way. This record is a time capsule that is meant to be heard! Label: Southern Lord Recordings Barcode: 808720018929

This album is the accumulation of two of the worst years of our lives. During these trying times of emotional and social turbulence NTEKA was our shelter, safe space and go-to coping mechanism to deal with all this struggle, sorrow and anger. This album is not only our defense but also an attack towards the new politics of control being shoved down our throats. A way not only to express our frustration but to reclaim our voices, our bodies, our lives, the way we want. As we see it, the only way to accomplish this was by doing things ourselves and by building a network of like minded people outside of the commercial game, without bosses, payments, obligation and third parties' mediations. The band is a part of a self organized music studio (STUΔIO) in Athens and everything was done there from scratch. In this space we learned how to play our instruments, we jammed continuously, we laughed, we cried, we shouted collectively. In this space we became a band. By expressing what we feel through our music and lyrics, we try to reconnect with our feeling, stop the massive numbness that is being forced upon us the last years and break the vicious circles of being trapped in situations that never seem to change or improve. This is a call to spit yr gum, move forward, do what... more Written By NTEKA Recording & Mixing by Sotiris Ziliaskopoulos Mastered By Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios Cover Layout By Marimba Tzatziki (Self Released)

  • New York’s Neckscars are teaming up with Engineer and Sell The Heart Records to release their new album, 'Don't Panic' this summer. Formed in Downstate, New York in late 2018, Neckscars are Will Romeo (Vox/Guitar), Justin Parish (Guitar/Vox), Colin Harte (Bass), and Craig Sala (Drums). Over the past two decades the members have been cutting their teeth in the DIY scene and have gathered to form this expansive collaboration. Without any specific stylistic direction in mind, they were determined to write a diverse collection of songs which proved to be an enjoyable process. The result was a classic punk rock and roll sound that doesn’t lean too hard on nostalgia and standard formulas. You can hear them echo influences ranging from Seaweed to Dead Boys as they embrace their unbridled enthusiasm. In March of 2020, Neckscars entered Nada Studios in Montgomery, New York with Producer John Naclerio and Sean-Paul Pillsworth for their first full-length recording. Ripping through 8 songs in just three days, the session came to halt in response to the Covid-19 Global Pandemic. The band returned in the fall to tie up loose ends and bring another two songs to the table. Completed with a mastering by Jesse Cannon, Neckscars will be releasing their debut album Don’t Panic in the summer of 2021. These guys have put together a brilliant rocking album of songs that you really need to hear. Definitely one for fans of Hot Water Music, Iron Chic, Nothington, Menzingers, Tired Radio, Spanish Love Songs, Bear Away, Rydell, Hunter Gatherer, Small Brown Bike and the like. Label: Sell The Heart Records, Engineer Records
  • Hailing from the filthy bowels of Richmond, Virginia, BALACLAVA spit out their warped take on raging hardcore punk with deadly intensity. The band was born in 2006, drawing from the blueprints laid down by the cults of Neurosis, His Hero Is Gone and Cursed, this virulent quartet scorn the simplicity of genre labels, choosing instead to transmute their punk and metal roots into something altogether nastier. BALACLAVA's sound ranges from sludgy, crust-ridden dirges to restrained, ominous melodies to moments of blistering triumph. Their debut full-length, Crimes of Faith, is a thoughtful, multifaceted expression of seething animosity and fervent exultation. "Balaclava has the right to call themselves “Superdelic Gnarly,” because their new album Crimes of Faith, which will be released on vinyl by Forcefield Records/Cosmic Debris & on CD bySouthern Lord Aug.30th, is killer with no fucking filler! This band gives me what I need & what I want – some off the hook, dirty crusty punk with some voodoo doom. It gets even better, these dudes also can mold atmospheric soundscapes into sonic hovercrafts for your imagination to take a lift on before landing in a swamp of hate. Listening to Balaclava is like having your favorite five bands become one ultimate killing machine. I have to to give this band mad props for constructing 7 songs that shapeshift into so many varying moods, while still retaining one voice. They had my attention when I heard the first drum beat on “Victims” – the song took off & became this blackened drama where tension looked into the empty eyes of intense, only to realize there is no future, only now. By the time “Throne of Grace” wraps it hands around your throat, feedback starts to poke in your eyes as the drums are knocking away at your joints. Expression of the realest kind is what Crimes of Faith is all about in my book; no matter what the speed of the song, Balaclava will make encounter those emotions you might want to stay asleep. Deep down in the underbelly of this music you will find ancient blues riffs that when played with right kind of rage can be hailed as apocalyptic blues. As the record plays on, it begins to open up & they really start to let the weirdness in, or at least that is what you think, because at the drop of a dime Balaclava will drop the heavy hammer. Fuck putting things in boxes, that just stops growth, what I appreciate about this band is how free & open they are; if this heavy, I feel weightless. Balaclava will execute you with the amount of melody that Crimes of Faith is packing in it’s arsenal. The last song on the album, “A Prophecy,” is a perfect ending to a “Superdelic Gnarly” album – awesome job, Balaclava." - Cvltnation.com Label: Southern Lord Records Barcode: 808720014129

Though the Beacon Of Faith album is densely-packed, BAPTISTS’ sound is far from claustrophobic. There is melody amongst the dissonance, as the band more deeply explore the noise rock vistas that have always underpinned their sound. The album broadly follows the same trajectory as its predecessors —Bushcraft(2013) and Bloodmines (2014) – combining the style of raw adrenaline-fueled emotion, venomous vocal delivery, gigantic guitar sound, and a visceral rhythmic propulsion; a sonic manifestation of desolate rage, bolstered by a palpable sense of urgency. The lyrics on Beacon Of Faith are drawn from the members’ direct experience of a broken society and general discontentment with everyday life. A multitude of issues are in the firing line, from the Canadian court system, issues surrounding substance abuse, mental health, and how the more fortunate tend to dismiss people who have been dealt a less-fortunate hand. Beacon Of Faith was recorded at Godcity in Salem, Massachusetts with Kurt Ballou in July 2017, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon. Label: Southern Lord Records
  • Vancouver’s BAPTISTS recently completed work on their second full-length album, the follow-up to their 2013 debut Bushcraft. Entitled Bloodmines, the new album (like the debut) was recorded at Godcity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts with with Kurt Ballou Like its predecessor, Bloodmines is a fast, exhilarating album of rage, oozing with genuine raw emotion and punk rock fury. Shards of feedback make way for fast powerful riffs and savage vocals, whilst explosive drumming pumps blood around the band’s beating heart. On album tracks like “Vistas”, “Calling” and the title track, “Bloodmines”, the pace changes, revealing powerful, almost anthemic, jagged noise rock akin to influential San Diego post-hardcore band Drive Like Jehu and similar acts which go beyond the two minute mark. Discordant guitar melodies and abrasive vocal passages are elongated, still volatile but perhaps allowing for further contemplation of the band’s underlying message. BAPTISTS continually find new ways to express their rage and with Bloodmines they have created a memorable and commanding album. Label: Southern Lord Records
  • Centuries rage with an emotive punk-influenced style of dark hardcore that fuses raw elements of explosive and morose d-beat viciousness. • A perfectly appropriate title for this 7-inch EP of jack-hammering, old-school style hardcore tunes released by Southern Lord, written and played by a rogues gallery of real deal music lifers as a condemnation of the criminal Trump administration and republican party, in the same spirit of those by-gone days when Ronald Reagan or George Bush was the crooked, self-serving president of the crumbling United States empire. Never before has there been a more obvious target, as Donald Trump and his mafia family cabinet rape the country while Rome burns. D.E.A. is Tony Avila, Ian Watts, Nick Oliveri, Mike IX, Blaine Cook, and the legendary and beloved, late producer and drummer of Poison Idea, Steve ‘Thee Slayer Hippy’ Hanford. Dying shortly before the completion of this record, it stands as a final testament to his genius, one last hot-wired blast of his epic musical brilliance. - Mark Lanegan, August 2020 Label: Southern Lord Records

  • Raspberry Dawn is weird, wired and quite possibly the holy grail for those looking for radical rock reinvention and new sensations in the current era. Twisted like Bauhaus meets Celtic Frost. Okkultokrati sound like they’re playing to you from a different dimension. On Raspberry Dawn, Okkultokrati thrust the hectic rock and roll that they have cultivated since their 2008 inception into more extraordinary situations. Classic 70s riffing, snotty punk and brash old school metal are inventively mixed with pulses and spikes of dark wave and ice cold, psychedelic repetition. They execute these infectious tunes effortlessly, playing with the attitude they retained from their roots in rural hard rock and busting a propulsive stomp that aligns them closer to the clarity of recordings from decades past, also exemplified by spring reverb twangs that ping across the mix like rubber bands. This new LP is without a doubt a giant bound forward from Snakereigns and Night Jerks, and one that will surely lasso in more inquisitive ears. Whether you’re a devotee of sounds from the underground or in the market for a stadium rock fix, Okkultokrati can somehow satisfy you all. LabeL Southern Lord Records

The Secret are one of the heaviest and most extreme bands to ever crawl their way out of Italy. The Secret come to life as an output for rage, darkness and negativity. This lineup is a lethal, death-ripping war machine! Like the previous album, the new one: Agnus Dei was also recorded by Kurt Ballou at Godcity studios. A trio from Texas who build on the foundation of good old anarcho punk, but are adding a thrashing Spanish hardcore flavor to the mix. The overall feel I get is that this is pretty dark and gloomy, but sharp in it’s delivery – making it very interesting. Influences range from d-beat to death rock to anarcho punk, and it’s all there in the final result. It’s hard, it’s bouncy, it’s pissed, it’s hopeful… 10 tracks.
"I’ve reviewed a lot of great records over the last few years, but I feel guilty as hell to come up with this review just now. KURRAKÄ’s self-titled LP was released in 2014 by Trabuc Records and I have tons of reasons to love this band and record. In these ten songs we’ve been trailed off in a complete pandemonium of raw aggression by a three piece all-female bearers of chaos coming from Austin, TX.
The fierce vocals of Dru Molina (also in Criaturas) rip and rage in the Crudos school of thought, while the dark deathrock overtones remind me of the witty macabre of my all time favorite Rudimentary Peni. Lyrically the trio is screaming to the moon and casting spells about strength and women, shadows and spirits, blood and passion, chaos and freedom… Add to that the seething mass of buzzing raw punk guitars, pounding d-beat drumming and chaos magick symbolism, and you’ll have a masterpiece of an obscure hardcore punk record. I would love to get this on a 12″ LP (it’s been pressed on 400 copies in black vinyl and 100 copies in purple) and totally recommend you to check out not only Kurrakä’s recordings prior to their LP but also their fellow peers like Criaturas, Vaaska, and Impalers. Radiation Reissues present a reissue of Rik L Rik's The Lost Album, originally released in 1991. The late great LA punk scene hero Rik L Rik's (F Word, Negative Trend) only solo album is a killer collection of singles, compilation tracks -- Beach Blvd (1979) and Rodney On The Roq (1980) --, live recordings, and unreleased tracks spanning punk, goth-rock, and new wave. Rik L Rik was a true original, parading around LA barefoot, living at his parents' house well into his 20s, and generally not giving a fuck in pure punk fashion. Essential for all fans of the '70s/'80s LA scene! Reissued on CD with exclusive liner notes from Posh Boy label mastermind Robbie Fields. (Radiation Records)

  • Almost 30 years since their inception, the members of Engine Kid got together a few months ago to hang out and record new music. The result of which arrives by way of the "Special Olympics" EP flexi disc/digital EP on 3rd December via Southern Lord. Some fans may recognize the song "Special Olympics" which, like others on this release, are reworkings of old material which were never recorded. The music represents the sonic direction that the band were heading before they disbanded. With this EP, Engine Kid commemorate the joy of playing music together for the first time in 26 years, and pick up where they left off. As Jade Devitt comments, "The musical commitment and connection that we forged in the 90’s has held like a magnet, finally pulling us together after 26 years! The newly recorded songs were dusted off blueprints from our very last practice tapes from the summer of ’95. Now enhanced with experience & age and new arrangements. The Kid flies again." Earlier this year, the 90’s post-hardcore collective featuring Greg Anderson (Southern Lord label owner, also in Sunn O))), Goatsnake & Thorr's Hammer) released a 6-LP box set of their career-spanning recordings on color vinyl LP's for the first time titled Everything Left Inside (find out more about that here) Engine Kid’s Brian Kraft adds, "Greg, Jade and I spent the summer and fall of 2020 gathering old photos, flyers, artwork and audio rehearsals /remixes/remasters for the Everything Left Inside box set. This remote reunion of the Kid made me realize how important Greg, Jade and Engine Kid was and is in my life. The reconnection led to recording some new material. It felt as if we were continuing right where we left off.” Engine Kid’s first new material since 1995, the “Special Olympics” EP’s cover art is a symbolic metaphor about living one's best life, and with swagger. The songs themselves continue the band’s “take on the world” attitude with restless, wild energy. Engine Kid’s new EP is available now on flexi and on digital format on Bandcamp. • Kohti Tuhoa’s debut was considered by many as the most exciting hardcore punk record out of Scandinavia in ages. Their sophomore album Pelon neljäs valtakunta is constructed from similar building blocks but with the band’s sound taking a step further towards genre classicists such as Discharge and Disorder, not to mention classic Finnish hardcore punk acts such as Terveet Kädet, Varaus, Riistetyt. Label: Svart Records
  • " Polish death 'n' rollers Daymares put together a decent debut in their 2007 release, Can't Get Us All. They fused crusty punk, metal and death 'n' roll (a-la Entombed) to craft eleven rockin' tracks for SelfMadeGod Records that certainly were chock full of attitude and their latest EP, the six track Toothless & Fanged continues on from where the band left us last time, and even includes a Neurosis cover as well. It's a punked fuelled fiery opener in Annuit Coeptis that sets the scene and reminds me just why I dug their debut. The slower parts only add to the tracks intensity when it kicks up a few gears, and is just the right length to make a solid impact. Fury levels increase on the gang vocal heavy Never Relent which is more punk than anything else and that attitude carries over seamlessly to the fun as hell Who Laughs Last. The longest track, the epic four plus minute Words One Loves To Hate swaps pace for groove and it works a treat and certainly injects something new into the EP before the short, sharp title track, Toothless & Fanged, rolls up a healthy balance of the group's main influences - punk and death 'n' roll. The EP is rounded out with the group's cover of the Neurosis track Life On Your Knees (which originally appeared the group's first album, Pain Of Mind) which fits the band's mantra like a glove. Toothless & Fanged is another fine effort from this Polish group. If their debut floated your boat, then this EP will as well. It's that simple." (Get By Records)

BACKFIRE! | my broken world | CD

Original price was: €8.00.Current price is: €6.00. incl. tax
"My Broken World"; a culmination of furious anger and frustration, transformed into the best, hardest and darkest Backfire! album ever. Backfire!'s "My Broken World" features 15 songs. Check these songs and you'll understand right away why their 2009 break up was too early. Backfire! had more to offer to the universe, and music and lyric wise "My Broken World" proves it. Uncompromised aggressive New York influenced Hardcore; pissed, raw and angry. Forget the melancholic memories from their 1995 classic "Rebel 4 Life", and "My Broken World" is the best Backfire! effort so far. Backfire! 2012 is harder and darker than ever before. The lyrics from "My Broken World" are based on the deepest frustrations of disappointments and loss. Just like "In Harm's Way", the brand new "My Broken World" album is recorded and produced by Igor Wouters and mastered by Alan Douches. With guest vocals from Hein Tech9 and Dave Right Direction, as well a Crowbar cover, the atmosphere for the 15 "My Broken World" anthems is set. HONDARTZAKO HONDAKINAK | bruiarta | LP

Original price was: €10.00.Current price is: €6.00. incl. tax
Euskal rage! HONDARTZAKO HONDAKINAK came to life in 2011 in the northern part of Basque Country. Straight from their demo they caught the attention of many of us, delivering an impressive amount of noise and distortion. "Bruiarta" is their first full length and the trio made the most of it bringing new influences and more diversity to their sound. 80's UK punk will come to mind listening to the catchy and powerfull intro of this record but it's only one of the numerous and inspired aspects this piece of vinyl has to offer. The record comes with a nice bookled in which the shouted basque lyrics are translated in various languages. The artwork is a nod to their country of origin with the desire to be far from any punk cliché or pose. It's a corelease with Solar Funeral from the US. Label: Destructure Records
  • Taking influence from Black Flag, Dead Boys, Bad Brains, and Thrasher magazine -- as well as pizza and beer -- Cerebral Ballzy were formed by five Brooklyn skaters who were nostalgic for early-‘80s speed metal and hardcore punk. In 2010, Mel, Honor, Mason, Jason, and Abe started getting together to play music as fast as humanly possible, and while doing so in their practice space, they came up with songs like "Underage Drink Forever," "Puke Song," and "Skate All Day." Cerebral Ballzy's debut 7", You’re Idle, was released on Article Records and came packaged in a sandpapery sleeve (à la The Return of the Durutti Column) made of hand-stenciled skateboard grip-tape. After playing for only six months together, the band inked a deal with Vice Records, who released their self-titled full-length debut in 2011. Receiving positive reviews for their brattish take on classic '80s hardcore, the group headed out in support of the record, taking on a full tour of the U.S. as well as dates at key European festivals such as Pukklepop, Roskilde, Reading, and Leeds. Returning to the studio in 2013 with TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek, the band set about recording their sophomore release, Jaded & Faded. Preceded by the 2013 singles "Another Day" and "City's Girl," the album itself was released in June of 2014. Label: Cult Records Barcode: 616892201946
  • Two-song flexi from this much-hyped New York band which preserves the two tracks from their recent promo cassette on a slightly more permanent format. It’s easy to see why people respond so strongly to Krimewatch, because they take a tried and true sound—their music has a very similar combination of primitiveness and power as early Agnostic Front—and update it with lyrical content and a visual aesthetic that reflects the political and social priorities of the (lowercase) youth of today. I know there are a lot of haters out there who don’t think this band “deserves” the attention they’ve gotten based on their limited output (I think these two songs bring their full discography up to about 7 minutes in length), but I really couldn’t care less about that debate. There’s an undeniable spark here, and while it’s hard for me to point out what, precisely, elevates this band above the legions with a similar approach, it’s obvious that a lot of other people hear it too. Following the signing of North American hardcore group SECT to Southern Lord earlier this year, the band has since completed recording their second full-length, and label debut, No Cure For Death, and with plans to release the album on November 24th. No Cure For Death was recorded with Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studios and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music. Comprised of an international cast of scene veterans, who cut their teeth in that formative moment of political, cynical, antagonistic extremes, SECT unites vocalist Chris Colohan (Cursed, Burning Love, Left For Dead), guitarists James Chang (Catharsis, Undying) and Scott Crouse (Earth Crisis, The Path Of Resistance), bassist Steve Hart (Day Of Suffering), and drummer Andy Hurley (Racetraitor, Fall Out Boy, The Damned Things). The result of these musicians’ alignment is a caustic, riotous, belligerent style of vile hardcore fed by a boundless well of socio-political vitriol. SECT gets right down to the blast beats and breakdowns that fight it out in their chaotic jams. They cut the shit and go for the throat with no time to waste, “because the Orwellian police states and irreparable social and ecological disasters we once saw off on the horizon are now on our front doorsteps, in full swing. And in just such a volatile, precarious moment as this for civilization, there is more reason than ever to keep lashing out at a world more suicidally-bent on its own destruction and the exploitation of people, species and the ecosystem itself, than perhaps ever before in history.” For SECT, this is the purpose of hardcore as they know it, conveying an urgency that transcends age, credentials or scene politics, to convert desperation into real talk and action. On NIGHT SHIFT, Neighborhood Brats’ first release since 2014 is a return to original form without repeating or compromising the past. The A side title track is a first-rate NB classic, paying homage to the RUNAWAYS, STOOGES and the SAINTS. Side B features a collaborative writing effort by vocalist JENNY ANGELILLO and guitarist GEORGE RAGER, in an AVENGERS meets RADIO BIRDMAN slammer. Captivated by an NPR story of WWII-era COMFORT WOMEN and echoing the current #MeToo movement, Angelillo shouts “I’m not the one,” implicitly stating FUCK THAT SHIT TO SEXISM AND THE PATRIARCHY. The wolves are back in town -- yeah! This is their best release to date. Better vocals, better songs, better sound than before. This record is a step up from their already amazing LP of last year. This ep brings four new songs that are somewhat influenced by japanese hardcore but BURIAL have found a style of their own that is just totally driving, extremely powerful hardcore punk. Simple as that. It would be great if japan these days had more bands as good as BURIAL. To top it off, japanese punk artist sugi did the front cover artwork. After their successful European tour in November 2014 HeartFirst Records is proud to release the new 7 EP by LIFE from Japan entitled “Proof of Survival”. LIFE hail from Tokyo and their name stands for “Liberty Independence Freedom Equality”. The band has been around since the early 90s and released their first demo in 1993. Their releases have been hard to find in Europe, but this changes now since at the same time as the new EP on HeartFirst, LA VIDA ES UN MUS from England is rereleasing their debut LP entitled “The World Lies Across Them“. LIFE’s “Proof of Survival” EP offers four songs of blown out yet rocking hardcore punk — three fast smashers on one side and and a long track on the flipside. After KRIEGSHÖG in 2008 this is finally a new release by a Japanese band on HeartFirst. Also Nori, who currently plays bass in LIFE, has been playing on the first release ever on HeartFirst, the debut EP by NUKEY PIKES. So he is one of the oldest members of the HeartFirst family. Kriegshög is a raw hardcore/d-beat punk band from Tokyo, Japan. This 7" EP was released in 2008 by Hardcore Survives. "Re-release of their debut EP with new artwork and one extra song. One of the most amazing bands in recent times and one of the hottest new bands from Japan at the moment. The original sold out instantly in February 2008. Here is what MRR hat to say about the original version: I am almost left speechless on how fucking good this record is. the ultra-hardcore brutal legion needs to maim and murder to get this record ‘cuz it fucking kills an I heard it is already long gone. ok, what does it sound like, you may ask? driving, fist-pumping hardcore with loads of distortion, ferocious drumming, and vocals that drive right through my skull. side one paints a picture for you by having some war-time sample – ya know, gunfire and commotion followed by a sic-year-old girl’s blood-curdling scream – then in comes the audio assault. killer!” – (Martin Sorrondeguy, Maximum Rocknroll No. 300). A lot has happened in the 3 years since the "futuro primitivo" 7" dropped in correlation with the band's 2016 Japanese tour, and now VAASKA returns to a world that's worse off with what could possibly be their final statement in the form of the "inocentes condenados" 7".
